JAMES PATTERSON, PNCC GENERAL MANAGER
It is with great pleasure that I send this email saying farewell to 2024 and welcoming 2025 into our lives. I thank you, our members for your continued support of the Club and our Community. Your presence and participation genuinely make our club special. Recent growth within our Membership has shown a very positive impact on attendance for Club Events, especially in the Family Category.
We have had a great year here at Porters Neck Country Club with several updates to our facilities, and we expect many more in the year ahead. Our team of dedicated employees continues to strive for excellence throughout all of our departments. Special thanks to our management and administrative team for their collaboration and efforts to seek creative ways to improve the services that we provide. It is my pleasure to work alongside each of them daily
On a personal note, I have been fortunate to be mentored by Jason Seehafer since arriving in 2021 I will continue to utilize Jason and his wealth of knowledge moving forward While Jason will eventually no longer call Wilmington his home, as he takes on his new role as VP of Operations for McConnell Golf, Porters Neck Country Club will always welcome Jason back to the club We wish Jason, Stacy, and their children the best in their next chapter of life with McConnell Golf in Raleigh and beyond
We remain committed to being a well-rounded community that fosters an inclusive, welcoming environment where everyone feels valued this includes our members, our staff, and the others within our community Once again, thank you for being a vital part of the Porters Neck Country Club family We look forward to creating even more cherished memories in the New Year
UpcomingWinterWeather
As we move into January, we are preparing for some wintry weather ahead s to keep the membership informed about the upcoming week and the plans that we have in place at this point in time
The clubhouse and dining facilities will be closed next Monday, January 6th through Wednesday, January 8th, reopening on Thursday the 9th, with normal operation hours The club will utilize this time for general maintenance including touch-up paint throughout the clubhouse, cleaning carpets, and updating employee restrooms
GolfCourse|CoveringtheGreens
On behalf of our Golf Course Superintendent, Chris Parham, we will monitor the weather however an initial plan looks as follows:
The forecast does not look good, with a Cold front coming through next week starting Tuesday night. The Grounds Crew staged the green covers out behind the greens to allow us to potentially cover next Tuesday. If the predicted forecast comes through the course will be closed starting Tuesday, January 7th reopening at the earliest January 14th.
Luckily, we have the means and the staff to cover our greens when the need arises, if this is the case… we will begin covering greens starting on Tuesday, the process takes about 5-6 hours.
What are some factors for covering greens:
Low temperatures go down below 25-26 degrees
The forecasted high is below 42 degrees
The duration of the cold snap is a key factor a one night of extreme cold temperatures is not that critical, but when we start having 5 to 7 days of very cold temperatures we will cover.
The covers are like insurance policy – when you have insurance why not use the insurance to protect your investment at PNCC
We will continue to monitor the temperatures and forecast and keep everyone in the loop
TennisCourts
When the temperature stays below freezing for an extended period, the courts will freeze Once the temperature rises above freezing, the courts will thaw and dry In the case of a hard freeze, the courts may remain soft for several hours or even days, depending on various factors We recommend checking the court conditions before coming out to play to ensure the best experience. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
Stay Warm – It’s the perfect weather for catching up on some much-needed rest from the Holiday Season – by the fire with a good book or maybe working on a puzzle. So, grab a bottle of wine, a hot-toddy, or maybe just a warm cup of cocoa. Cheers!
Cookie of the Month
22ndJanuary,2026 issue8
Recipe by Rebecca Keil
Macaroons
Ingredients
14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
14 ounces shredded coconut
3 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon almond extract
Directions
1
2
Mix all ingredients together
Scoop out cookies and bake at 325 for about 12-14 minutes, till golden brown
3.
Once cooled, drizzle the cookies with melted dark chocolate, let the chocolate set, then serve
Special thanks to Rebecca Keil, Executive Pastry Chef at Porters Neck Country Club for sharing her recipe! This is what she had to say
“From a young age, I fell in love with the sweet, buttery, chewy texture of Coconut Macaroons. The simplicity of the recipe combined with the complexity of the flavor, including the toasted coconut, makes this a small bite for anyone to enjoy I find it best in the winter months, sitting by a fire, enjoying a hot cup of cocoa, snuggled up in a blanket Happy New Year!”

Presented by Physical Therapy Services of Wilmington: Greg Musgnug and Anna RaePorcelli. When it comes to treating musculoskeletal conditions, the decision between physical therapy (PT) and surgery can be challenging. Come join us as we discuss the recent evidence which increasingly supports the effectiveness of physical therapy as a first-line treatment, often providing comparable outcomes to surgical intervention without the associated risks and recovery time.
Choosing physical therapy over surgery might be preferred for less severe conditions, as it offers a non-invasive, gradual approach to recovery with fewer risks However surgery should be chosen when a swift, definitive intervention is necessary, especially in cases of significant structural damage or trauma In this presentation we will discuss why or why not to choose surgery over physical therapy and how in many cases the correct answer is often both
