Special Olympics Tennis Clinic During the month of May, we were honored to host some very special people, from North Brunswick High School, who are a part of the Special Olympics of North Carolina (SON). The event was organized by Porters Neck Tennis Director, Rafa Toro, and Isabella Williams, the Director of Youth Activities for SON. The young people were invited for a tennis clinic with Tennis Pro's Rafa Toro, Montana Wiggs, and Allen Farfour. Afterwards, they enjoyed a delicious pizza lunch on the pool deck. See photos from that special day in the photo section of The Post!

No Bake, White Chocolate Cranberry Cookie

Cookie of the Month PATRICK BUDNIEWSKI |

HOLSTON HILLS CC

In the middle of the summer the last thing you want to do is turn on the oven and start to heat the house. That is where these cookies come into play. These cookies are quick and simple to make and are a great cool treat on a warm summer day. I like eating these straight out of the fridge. You can add chopped toasted almonds as an option or even substitute dried cherries instead of the dried cranberries.

INGREDIENTS 4 Cups Granulated White Sugar 1 Cup Unsalted Butter, cubed 1 Cup 2% Milk 2 Cups White Chocolate Chips

1 TSP Almond Extract 6 Cups Old Fashioned Oats 2 Cups Dried Cranberries

DIRECTIONS 1. In a large sauce pan over medium heat, combine butter, sugar and milk. Stir and continue to cook until butter is melted and sugar has dissolved. 2. Remove from heat and add almond extract and chocolate chips. Stir until complexly combined. 3. Add oats and cranberries and stir until fully coated.

Eagle!

4. Portion into 1 TBSP spoonfuls onto a parchment lined baking sheet.

Congratulations to Susan Houpt, who got an Eagle on #7. Woo hoo!

6. Store in air tight container.

Turf Notes

By: Chris Parham, PNCC Golf Course Superintendent

Summer has arrived, from a up and down springtime it is nice to have some summer weather. During the springtime, we addressed some pruning and tree work along with regular course maintenance. Doing the tree work was our goal with removal and/or reducing the canopy for better sunlight which will result in better turf. The eighteen-tee box was one location that we worked on. We removed 3 trees and limbed up the remaining trees. By doing this work, we improved sight lines for play and opened the canopy for more sunlight in return for better turf health. The twelfth tee box will be another tee box that we will look at doing the same thing remove and/or reducing canopy for better turf health. The work will take place on June 6th. That same day we will be addressing other tree work throughout the course as well.

Now, if we get some much-needed rainfall that would be great. Our year-to-date rainfall has only been 11.53 inches of rain. The month of May on May 24th there has only been 1.51 inches. When we do run the irrigation system to water the entire course, we will use roughly 400,000 gallons of water. So, we try to be very conservative with our watering philosophy. We like to keep the course on the drier side.

It is that time of the season that we will start with our verticutting and top dressing weekly cultural practice. This practice will get into full swing the first full week of June. The course is really starting to take shape. We have made our summer fertilizer application and the turf has started to see a nice response.

We are still working on the exposed linear in the bunkers. Please be careful when you are in the bunkers. The course will be closed July 11th- 14th for a big cultural practice week. Please go ahead and add those date to your calendar. I hope everyone has had a chance to get out and enjoy the course.

Everyone has noticed the white and green stakes we have placed through out the course. We are using these stakes for cart control. If you see those up, please avoid and go around. When you are playing and see an area that ‘s been used so much by carts go a different way to help the wear and tear of the turf.

Men's Senior / Super Senior JUNE 25TH & 26TH 36 Hole individual stroke play event. There will be a GROSS and NET division in each age group. A player may only win in one division and compete in only one age division. Senior Division is ages 55-69. Senior players may play either White Tees or White Hybrid Tees. The Senior Gross Champion will be from the White Tees. The Senior Division Net Champion will be determined by the low net winner from all tees, no play-off this year. Super Senior is age 70 & above and all play will be from Green Tees. Entry Fee is $40 plus applicable cart fees. Tee Times will be scheduled for both days. Please sign up online or contact the pro shop. POST | GOLF

Heat Exhaustion With summer upon us the temperatures increase along with the humidity. These conditions are not favorable for tennis or pickleball players. We highly recommend that all players take into considerations the length of time they play and the hour of day they play. Hydrations plays a huge part in heat exhaustion, make sure you are fully hydrated before playing. Please know the signs/symptoms of over heating: Headaches Fatigue Dizziness Seeing Stars Red or Pale Skin Not Sweating Feeling Cold Nausa and /or Feeling Weak If you are feeling any of these symptoms you should stop immediate and seek help. We recommend going indoors immediately and placing cold towels around your neck, inner thighs and armpits. POST | COURT SPORTS
