MANAGER'S MESSAGE
DearMembers,
It has been an exciting first few months of the year, with many significant upgrades to the clubhouse, including a new roof, new sun loungers, and resort-style tables and chairs around the pool deck We also increased the number of sun loungers from 90 to 120, which will satisfy the need for more relaxation areas Also, we are now making use of the far back corner for all the campers and birthday parties, whichwillhelpeliminateovercrowdingrightattheentrancearea.
Another large capital expense project is the renewal of most wooden bridges on the golf course This projectisscheduledtostartonJune10thandwilllastapproximately3weeks(weatherpermitting).
The clubhouse doors and windows on the lower level got a new coat of paint, and the tennis pergolas willundergosomenecessarymaintenanceinthecomingweeksaswell
Chef JP has been an asset to Providence Country Club over the last few months, and he, as well as the rest of the team, is looking to ensure that the next Executive Chef we hire is the right fit for the membershipaswellasMcConnellGolfandPCC
Please enjoy an amazing spring at PCC and make use of all our facilities, including golf, tennis, fitness, activities, andthepool, aswellasourmanyfoodandbeverageoutlets

Golf Course Update
There has been a lot going on on the golf course recently. The turf is thriving with the warm temperatures, and course definition is getting more and more dialed in every time we mow. We have had a pretty good spring. It feels like the first time in a few years that we’ve had somewhat of a normal spring transition without it being “unseasonably cold” or “unseasonably warm” In addition to staying on top of regular course maintenance, this is a very busy time of year, with some big events on the calendar over the next few months, including Crown Cup mid-June, bridgeworkstartingMondayafterCrownCup,andCourseAerificationWeekJune17–21,whichwillonceagaininvolvetheDryjectprocess
I am pleased to inform you that we will be doing some much-needed work on our bridges. All of the golf cart bridges will be getting new decking in June This has been in the works since last June and was just finalized recently We are planning on this process taking two weeks, beginning on June 10 and ending on June 21 The refreshed bridges should be a welcomed capital improvement and a nice upgrade to our course infrastructure
Last year, we had 3.70" of rain during our aerification week. We are hoping that is not the case again this year. Our plan, again, is to pull as many small cores as we can to remove as much organic matter as we can Then, we will rely on the Dryject process to incorporate sand into the greens Dryject involves using specialized machines to inject kiln-dried sand into the greens using water pressure to blast the sand downward into the greens soil profile Doing this creates channels of sand while disturbing the green mix to disrupt and dilute layers, thatch, and other pollutants belowthesurface.DuringtheDryjectprocess,35tonsofsandwillbeinjectedintothegreens.
Thatch is the layer just beneath the canopy that is made up of organic matter, stolons, and rhizomes Too much thatch can cause the greens to become soft, prevent nutrient and water infiltration, hinder gas exchange and root growth, and promote root disease if fungicides can’t reach the root zone This is one of the reasons that we topdress on a regular basis Both Dryject and aerification will benefit plant health drastically and allowustomanagethingseasierthroughoutthesummermonths.

EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH
FEBRUARY 2024
I have been at PCC for 5 months I have two dogs: a chocolate lab named Chase and a yorkie named Sassy. I plan on attending UNC Chapel Hill in the fall, although I’m not 100% committed yet. I have a 4.6071 GPA, and I’m 10th in my class at school out of 450 students. If I were able to have dinner with anyone, it would be my younger self, and I would tell myself to invest in bitcoin and let him know all the winners for every sport each year.
