COOKIES OF THE MONTH

JULY KEY LIME COOKIE

EXECUTIVE CHEF AT SEDGEFIELD COUNTRY CLUB

AUGUST

PECAN OATMEAL RAISIN COOKIE

The first pie I ever made was a Key Lime Pie. I remember following the recipe on the back of the key lime juice bottle. I think I ate more of the meringue than what actually ended up on the pie. Ever since that moment, I've had a love for that sweet and tart flavor. Please enjoy this little sample of that delicious combination.

Even though I'm a cookie monster at home, I placed a call to a loved one to find out their favorite cookie. I've exhausted what I have in my recipe box of family treats, so make enough for me and your family, and I'll stop by to sample!

I hope everyone has been enjoying something delicious from our spring menu. We are preparing to present the summer menu with some tasty dishes mid-July. We are looking forward to the summer harvest of tomatoes, beans, corn, peaches, okra, and other vegetables from Seven Sisters Farm and other local farms from around the Triad surrounding area

Welcome back home Sous Chef Brian Kenyon, the first Executive Chef at Old North State Chef at Uwharrie Point I’m glad to have him back on the Culinary Team to share his knowledge and experience with me and the rest of the team.

We appreciate every member and guest that has a bite to eat by the lake. We are trying our best to grow as chefs and I hope it shows.

2023 GOLF SCHEDULE

A NOTE FROM YOUR DIRECTOR OF GOLF

WOW What a great turnout for our first golf course tour! I am sure you all getting excited to get back to playing one of the top ourses in North Carolina in approximately 60 days…I know the Golf Staff is eager to see everyone.

peaking of the Golf Team we are putting the final pieces together in preparation to open up Brandon Turner, PGA Head rofessional has been doing some heavy lifting (caddying) for his son Kenan over the last few months. Kenan has shown great trides recently by beating his previous 9 and 18 scores by double digits Jared has taken more vacation in 2023 than all his ther 26 years combined and has loved every minute of it I have never known anyone to stay at Disney for two weeks Aaron Richardson, upon re-opening will be heading up our five-star outside team. Aaron has brought up numerous ideas to better erve the Membership and Guests Keilani, currently grinding out the heat as an Intern with The First Tee of Charlotte will be eturning to the team in mid-August she will be bouncing back and forth between inside and outside Jared has had his ears o the ground seeking Outside Talent to get us through the Fall/Winter Season. There will be a nice balance between old and ew faces on our Team

I have been doing lots of traveling as well some of which was not fun, and some of which was My wife and I have been trading off College Soccer visits, Identification Camps, and Training Sessions while diving in to the entire recruiting process Seems like everything moves way too fast when it comes to your kid. My daughter, Piper did ask to hit golf balls, AND…let me give her some tips….but it was Father’s Day.

The 2023 Golf Tournament Schedule has been completed We are excited to host the Men’s and Ladies Member Guests, along with a few other Events By design we did not overload the Tournament Schedule in order to allow Members and Guests to enjoy the renovation, meanwhile learning to navigate some of new additions or subtractions

GOLF OLD NORTH STATE OF MIND PAGE 12

A NOTE FROM YOUR COURSE SUPERINTENDENT

After three months of preparation, our greens were sprigged with TifEagle bermuda June 13th &14th TifEagle is a hybrid grass that was created by plant breeders using plant propagation techniques with bermuda grasses that have desirable characteristics In the case of TifEagle it’s asexual creation renders it unable to even produce a seed head which is a fantastic thing! Seed heads change the characteristics of the putting surface enough to impact speed and true roll Ok, now that we have established that TifEagle seed doesn’t even exist, I will briefly explain what a “sprig” is. First, a sprig can be harvested from any grass that produces rhizomes(underground stems)and/or stolons (above ground stems) A majority of the sprig consist of stolons, since they are on top of the ground and easier to harvest. Sprig growers use machines with vertical blades to rip the plant material out of the ground and then collect it usually in breathable bags for shipment Our sprigs were also sent through a tumbler before bagging to knock off the sandy loam soil Once this process is done, you want to get the sprigs delivered and on the ground in 24/48 hours. It’s very similar to spreading pine-straw.

Once the sprigs are spread on the green, they are cut in with a disc attachment on a small tractor to improve ground contact and then moderately topdressed with a sand/peat mix to further stabilize them. Now, all that’s left is lots of watering and fertilizer until the sprigs root in about 10 days. Once the sprigs root, we will begin mowing, rolling and top-dressing We will continue aggressively fertilizing to encourage lateral growth until the greens are completely filled in Once the greens are completely grown in we will begin the routine maintenance practices to have the greens dialed in for opening day.

Look forward to seeing you on the course in September!
