A NOTE FROM YOUR COURSE SUPERINTENDENT
Bring on the heat!
This is our first summer with warm season grass on the entire golf course, no more cool season bentgrass greens that would be stressed to the max right now I am still learning about our new tifEagle greens and so far I love them! We just wrapped up our member /guest and one of the few things higher than the speed of the greens were the temperatures Regardless, we were able to aggressively mow and roll over the three days and provide a smooth, challenging putting surface.
We are entering prime Bermuda grass growing weather which means the greens are producing a lot of thatch as parts of the plant die back and decompose in the soil Left unattended the thatch will create an excessive layer of organic matter that will alter the soils composition, impede the plants ability to take up water/nutrients/plant protectants and limit our ability to mow greens at tournament heights. Frequent verticutting and topdressing are great tools to limit thatch but can’t replace the benefits of an aerification Aerification will promote gas exchange in the root zone, root growth and add amendments into the soil profile We are scheduled to close July 8 til 12:00 on the 12th This will be a moderate aerification and I would expect to be healed over in two weeks I hope you, your family and guest enjoy the golf course this summer
Best Regards,
Chris Chapman Golf Course Superintendent

Old North State Marina hopes everyone is having a great start to summer
With the summer definitely here, with that comes all the joys and of course headaches of boat ownership The best way I can think of to ensure more boating bliss and less nautical nightmares is to maintain your vessel. If you have any questions please give us a call at 336-461-4456 The fireworks this year will be on Saturday July 6th at 9pm or dark. If you are planning on enjoying them by boat please be responsible and always follow all boating laws and regulations there will be a lot of boats in front of the club house that night. The marinas hours are Tuesday to Sunday 9 to 5 except on holiday weeks/weekends which the fuel dock will be open to 7pm Friday and Saturday and Thursday for the 4th Have a safe and wonderful July 4th from Old North State Marina. As always, if you have any questions please feel free to call the marina at 336-461-4456.
