A MESSAGE FROM YOUR GENERAL MANAGER
Happy Spring!! (almost),
I hope everyone is enjoying the recent warm up and taking advantage of the higher temps and getting out on the course or the courts.
We have been completing some projects around the property and will continue to do so You may notice some changes in the men’s locker room, bar area, activity center floor, new roofs on some of the structures and you will definitely notice the groundbreaking for the new pickleball court in mid-March. We are also working hard to refresh the marina fuel dock and boat slips along with a facelift on our pontoons that are available to rent and enjoy the beautiful Badin Lake
I am delighted by all the activity at the clubhouse during the new year. Hannah & William have been planning some fun nights and they will continue to keep the membership engaged in the coming months We have completed booking live entertainment for all the holiday weekends, summer concert series, Oktoberfest & Member-Guest 2024 We will have a variety from rock and roll to country and some jazz on the intimate dinners in the main dinning room. Some other events will be our ongoing bourbon & whiskey dinners, featuring Bardstown Bourbon (April), Whistle-Pig (July) and Buffalo Trace (November) We also just booked a Scotch, Steak and Stogie event for October where we will sample scotch from every region in Scotland and will have a instructor from the Whiskey University Please get with William to reserve your spot. Seating is limited.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the Club
Cheers,
DavidM Wilson | General Manager
Greetings Everyone,
I am glad to see and hear how much the members have been enjoying the events we have put together We maxed out our reservation list on the Childress wine dinner and the Buffalo Trace bourbon tasting We will continue with Trivia with T on the last weekend of each month. Wii bowling has also been a fun success and we hope to continue growing that event Keep a lookout going forward because we have now have confirmed dates on an Orin Swift wine tasting and a Bardstown Bourbon Tasting We also are working on getting a women’s social gathering planned during the Derby week, so ladies get those crazy hats ready!!!
As always, it is a pleasure to serve you!
William Davis Food & Beverage ManagerIn honor of the Kentucky Derby, we bring you the Horse’s Neck. Dating back to the late 19th century, a Horse’s Neck was originally a refreshing glass of nonalcoholic ginger ale, and a jigger of bourbon, rye or brandy was added somewhere down the line. This twoingredient cocktail is an easy-to-make crowd pleaser, especially for those who like an exaggerated garnish Because the Horse’s Neck gets its singular name from its long coiled lemon peel that snakes around the inside of the glass While often regarded as a Derby-day drink, the Horse’s Neck is quite versatile
Ingredients
2 ounces bourbon, brandy or American rye whiskey
Ginger ale, chilled, to top
Garnish: lemon peel
Steps
1.
Add the whiskey into a Collins glass over ice.
2
Top with ginger ale
3
Garnish with a long strip of lemon peel
FROM THE KITCHEN
A NOTE FROM YOUR EXECUTIVE CHEF
Hello Everyone,
I hope everyone has had a chance to come and dine at the lake I’m glad to announce we’ve added another local vendor to serve the members here at Old North State Club Spring Lake Family Farms is a family farm located in Albemarle, NC If you get a chance, go by and checkout their Country Store at the farm. They have jams, cake and cookie mixes, peanuts, grass fed milk and chocolate milk, Phillips Bros Country Ham from Asheboro, farm eggs, maple and sorghum syrups, spice blends, local flour, and soup bars to name a few items. I enjoy being able to utilize another produce farm right outside of this community back door We will be receiving lettuce (salad mix, romaine, bibb lettuce) from them every Wednesday I hope this relationship flourishes in the same manner as the one we have with Seven Sisters Farm up Highway 8
Spring Lake Family Farm
Our Story
Spring Lake Family Farms is a family-owned business, located in Albemarle, North Carolina We have built an Aquaponics and Hydroponics facility in order to grow our produce year-round We have big dreams for our little farm, and we’re constantly working to achieve them. In addition to our greenhouse-grown produce, we have a farm store providing other local producers with an opportunity to work together as a community to provide our customers with locally grown and sourced produce and groceries.
About Our Family
Our family is large and varied now, but we are working hard together to provide our community with affordable, good-for-you food We started Spring Lake Family Farms in 2014 with an idea and a dream for our family and community to have a local economy and local produce and available.
Spring Lake Family Farms’ mission is to provide our community with natural produce at affordable prices, to provide our customers with excellent service, and to educate our community on the benefits of working together as producers instead of consumers
We love every opportunity to get to know you and talk about our mission Contact us today to set a date for your farm tour
We appreciate every member and guest that has a bite to eat by the lake We are trying are best to grow as chefs and I hope it shows

MEMBERSHIP NEWS
While there are few “definites” in life, I am rather confident in saying almost all of our golfing members are exuberant with excitement ove first full golfing season on the renovated golf course I learned a cop amount of information regarding the history of the golf cou agronomy, and why they performed various updates during renovation when penning an article in the Fall 2023 issue of McCon Golf The Magazine If you have not had the opportunity to read it, I hi recommend checking it out, and not just because I wrote it! There is an amazing video that our McConnell Golf creative team, led by F Inman & Paxton Rembis, created full of information on the renovation interview with McConnell Golf Vice President of Agronomy Mic Shoun, and plenty of beautiful drone shots of the golf course – the v is a true testament to the beauty of the peninsula and the golf course
Links to the magazine article and the renovation video can be found the club website – or feel free to email me directly and I’m happy to s links to you as well!
While the golf course was under renovation our members enjoye unique opportunity to visit the other McConnell Golf properties “unlimited” reciprocity. I refer to course closure due to renovation growing pains, which were hopefully bearable for our membership provided unique opportunities to play other fine courses camaraderie amongst the membership as well.
As for reciprocity in 2024, while I am sure everyone wants to play the ONSC as much as possible, there has been a policy change as to reciprocal golf access works The total num rounds allowed at other courses for cart fee twelve to fifteen. With this, the number of cart f played at one particular reciprocal course now a reminder, our members with reciprocal acc allowed to play the other clubs an unlimite calendar year and the aforementioned restrict access While our members can view the tee s the website, all reciprocal rounds must be boo shop. Lastly, please also remember driving r access across reciprocal clubs is limited to wh Feel free to reach out to me directly or any of with any questions you may have regarding r happy to help!
I am looking forward to a great membership been restored to its original splendor, there ha time to refer your friends, family and neighb club. I welcome and appreciate your referrals forward to seeing you and your guests at

A NOTE FROM YOUR DIRECTOR OF GOLF
Thank you again for your continued support of ONSC Golf!
Justin Mathers, PGA Director of GolfA NOTE FROM YOUR COURSE SUPERINTENDENT
I love this time of year! The days are getting longer, the sun is more intense and the birds are preparing nest for their spring hatchlings We are also preparing our new tifEagle greens to transition from dormancy to actively growing in March and April. Unfortunately I can’t give exact dates, the weather will determine when and at what pace the transition occurs. As the days get longer and the temperatures steadily rise we will start fertilizing and lightly sand topdressing the greens to promote new growth and a smooth putting surface When I feel confident that all the cold nights(below 25) are behind us we will increase the fertility and amount of sand topdressing Once we have established consistent growth we will use a small solid tine to promote water/nutrient and root movement through the soil profile. The solid tinning will not interrupt ball roll but will set us up for vertical mowing once the greens really start growing laterally I’m looking forward to our first full year post renovation, see you on the course!
Best Regards,
Chris ChapmanA NOTE FROM YOUR DIRECTOR OF SPORTS & WELLNESS

DEMOLITION & PICKLEBALL COURT CONSTRUCTION:
As most should know, we are transforming our Stadium Court into four new pickleball hard courts As the process begins in March, you’ll begin to see equipment, supplies, and probably some unsightly scenes around the grounds for a few weeks During this time, we kindly ask that you stay a safe distance from the construction area and off the newly paved asphalt as it sets in. The project should be complete in early summer, depending on weather and any potential setbacks
PICKLEBALL PLAY DURING CONSTRUCTION:
During the time our new courts are being constructed, we will be completing the annual resurfacing of our clay courts The current pickleball courts nearest the road will be reconverted back into a tennis court, giving us 4 tennis and 6 total pickleball after construction is complete After the tennis court conversion, we will only be working with 2 total pickleball clay courts while construction is being completed on the hard courts. Please make your reservations online to ensure your spot during this transition period Thank you for your patience and understanding
BOCCE BALL:
During the demo and construction, our Bocce courts will be removed and unavailable. Our goal is to install at least one court somewhere in the Sports & Wellness complex after the new Pickleball courts have been completed Other locations are also being explored for Bocce’s new home.
CLAY COURT RESURFACING:
This annual project is scheduled to take place mid-March Keep an eye and ear out for any court closures during this process.

Family Yearly Membership | $150

IMPORTANT NOTES & POLICIES:
Please reserve courts ONLINE on your member website or McConnell
App This helps our staff serve you better and ensures you have a court as our busy season approaches, especially with two less pickleball courts for a short time.
While using the court reservation system, you’ll notice a new comment box asking whether or not you are bringing a guest If you denote “not bringing a guest” and still bring guests to the court without paying the guest fee, there will be a written warning for the first offense If there is a second offense, you will be suspended from facility usage for 30 days This is a new McConnell Golf policy across all clubs. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Guests may play tennis/pickleball a maximum of 6 times at our facility each calendar year This same policy includes Clubhouse/Social members and their families. You must be a Sports/Full Golf member to have unlimited access to the tennis/pickleball facilities
CHECK IN the Tennis Shop BEFORE taking court Our staff will kindly direct you to the proper area and make sure you have everything you need.
Please wear court specific tennis shoes when playing on our clay courts This reduces damage to the courts and increases safety Running shoes tend to dig/grab in the clay and increase the chance of injury No crocs, sandals, boots, etc allowed on courts at any time Wear proper tennis/pickleball attire For gentlemen this should include an athletic t-shirt (not sleeveless), polo, athletic shorts/pants. For ladies, this should include appropriate skirt/skort/shorts, athletic dress or top, or athletic leggings No bathing suits of any kind allowed for either gender.
The Tennis Shop is OPEN at the hours below and has all your basic tennis and pickleball equipment, including limited equipment rentals Music is allowed at a reasonable and friendly volume. Please do not be upset if our staff or your court neighbors ask you to turn your volume down We seek to have a fun, respectful environment
MEMBERSHIP LEVELS AND GUEST PLAY POLICIES
While these policies were in place when I was Tennis & Activities Manager at ONSC previously, they were relaxed during Covid to encourage outdoor activity at the club or not enforced by the previous part-time pros. Effective January 1st, each of these policies will be enforced
You must be a Sports or Full Golf member to have unlimited access to tennis and pickleball facilities.
Social members, guests, or non-member Uwharrie Point residents may play up to six (6) times per calendar year and must pay a $10 guest fee each time they play
WELLNESS UPDATE
As Spring cleaning rolls around at your house, we will be making improvements to our fitness facilities as well Our floor that was damaged in the group fitness room has been replaced with a true fitness room “bounce floor” that will be easier on your joints (and the eyes) You will notice some new equipment in the main gym like a new ab crunch machine and weighted yoga balls as well. Never hesitate to reach out with a suggestion that you think would make our members’ experience a better one
In March, I am excited to announce we will be offering an evening Strength & Stretch class with Jordan Johnson We hope this evening offering will allow our working professionals a chance to enjoy a class at a more convenient time for them. We will try this through April and will continue based on attendance and feedback
