MANAGER'S MESSAGE Dear Members, I trust everyone is enjoying this beautiful Carolina weather that we have finally seen some consistency with in the recent weeks. The hint of the warmer weather seems to put a little pep in everyone’s step, you can just tell people feel good. Its such a joy to watch year after year. With the warmer weather comes higher activity levels throughout the Club property. Tennis & pickleball matches, golf tournaments, swim team meets, outdoor fitness classes and many member events are all on the docket over the next few months. You can already feel the “buzz” around our campus as the Club has already played host to a few weddings, golf tournaments and numerous tennis Interclub matches. We are particularly excited about the opening of our Aquatics center this year. In my last message I spoke of the capital improvement project of replastering all three pools, and the resurfacing of the rest of the pool deck and bathrooms so that it is consistent throughout. Since then, a lot more has happened. We lost two of our navy awnings due to Mother Nature’s strong winds. This gave us an opportunity to create a sun bathing strip in between the baby and slide pools complete with new umbrellas. The baby pool will also have a new look with a brand new pergola and sun shade. You will also notice brand new awnings over the check in desk and snack bar window. The Pavilion area has been refreshed with a new blue & white theme and refinished furniture. Last, but not least, a fresh coat of paint and pressure washing throughout the complex were the finishing touches in making the PCC Aquatics center the most appealing Summer retreat! We have a couple of Food and Beverage updates for the Summer season. The first is the return of the Weekend Grill. We plan on having it available every Saturday and Sunday from 12pm-3pm weather permitting, near the covered patio on the backside of the Club. I am also happy to announce we will be running two beverage carts from 11am-3pm every Friday through Sunday. We have decided to suspend lunch service in Table 16 during the Summer months. We will be open for lunch through Thursday, May 26, and then reopening just in time for school on Tuesday, August 30. Finally, the West Pavilion will be open for service seven days a week this year! Over the past couple months, many of you have inquired about certain policies and general guidelines of the Club. With our busy season approaching, we thought it would be helpful to share some friendly reminders about the Club policies from various departments and areas. For further clarification the following information can be found on the Membership page of the website. See you around the Club! THOMAS SULLIVAN, CCM General Manager

GOLF SEASON UPDATE Beginning May 1 all carts must be returned to the golf shop or cart staging areas by 8:00 each night. Walking after 8:00 is allowed, however, all carts should be off the course at this time. This is a new corporate policy that will take effect at all properties with exceptions at Musgrove Mill or Old North State if you are staying on property. Tee sheets for weekdays open 7 days in advance while weekend tee sheets open at 7:30 Wednesday morning for the upcoming weekend. Please help us keep the tee sheet free of TBD's. We ask that you only book players who are planning to play in that specific tee time. Holding space with family names or other Providence members that aren't playing should not be done. TBD's will be removed at noon the day before.
KEVIN REARDON, PGA PGA Director of Golf
GOLF SHOP MERCHANDISE Stop by the Shop and see the new Spring merchandise. We would love to see you!
GOLF TIP As we begin to see more and more action on the golf course it’s imperative to play ready golf and be mindful of the players in front or behind your group. It’s always good practice to keep up with the group in front of you. Please make sure to play ready golf, place food orders for the turn before you get to the Turnhouse, and keep pace with members in front of your tee time. A solid pace of play makes the game more enjoyable for everyone. Let’s all try to keep our rounds at a 4 hour pace this year…

GREENS AND GROUNDS
PCC GOLF COURSE UPDATE There has been a lot going on out on the golf course recently. The turf is thriving in the warm temperatures and course definition is getting more and more dialed in with every time we mow, along with some increased fertility to help with plant health and combatting foot traffic and cart traffic. In addition to staying on top of regular course maintenance, this is a very busy time of year with some big time events on the calendar over the next few months including Dryject and Crown Cup in May, and course aerification week at the end of June. The last time we used the Dryject process on greens was back in 2020. Dryject involves using specialized machines to inject kiln-dried sand into the greens using water pressure to blast the sand downward into the greens soil profile. Doing this creates channels of sand, while disturbing the greens mix to disrupt and dilute layers, thatch, and other pollutants below the surface. During the Dryject process, 35 tons of sand will be injected into the greens. Even though Dryject is considered a non-invasive process, we will still bump up fertility for a faster healing time. The process for greens aerification this summer will be a little different than it was last year. We will start the week before with extra nutrients and fertility to ramp up plant processes for speedy recovery after the aerification process is complete. The plan is to pull 5/8 inch cores and fill the holes with 45 sand. This is a little finer sand than we used last year and should fill the larger holes with ease. Pulling cores should remove plenty of organic matter and allow us to “hit the reset button” with thatch management. Thatch is the layer just beneath the canopy that is made up of organic matter, stolons, and rhizomes. Too much thatch can cause the greens to become soft, can prevent nutrient and water infiltration, hinder gas exchange and root growth, and promote root disease if fungicides can’t reach the root zone. Both Dryject and aerification will benefit plant health drastically and allow us to manage things easier throughout the summer months. See you on the course, MARK SCOTT Golf Course Superintendent

PCC FITNESS KEYLESS ENTRY BY PAXTON We are pleased to let you know that we have installed a new keyless entry system at the Providence Fitness Center. The old key fobs that you were using prior to COVID-19 restrictions will no longer work. The new system will operate via an app called Paxton Key on your mobile device/cell phone. Once we go live with the keyless entry system, you will simply open the Paxton app and the door locks will disengage. Or you can keep the app running in the background and you will not have to open it each time. If you have utilized the fitness center over the last 60 days, you should receive an email from Paxton (support@paxton10portal.com) with a link to download the Paxton app to your mobile device along with instructions to register the app using your individual registration code which will be included in the email. If you do not receive an email from Paxton and you wish to use the fitness center, please check your spam folder first to make sure it didn’t make its way there. If you don’t find the Paxton email in your spam folder, please contact Kym Reed, the Fitness Director kreed@providencecc.com 704 846 5485 for assistance. We will continue staffing the Fitness Center for the time being to allow everyone ample time to download the Paxton app and workout any potential problems. We appreciate your patience as we work through this conversion. We will undoubtedly face some challenges along the way and will work diligently to address situations as they arise.

MAY COOKIE OF THE MONTH: STRAWBERRY SHORTBREAD COOKIES BY ISAAC SPENCER, EXECUTIVE CHEF AT ONSC
When I think of May, I think of my mom and celebrating Mother’s Day. I can remember my mom going to local farms to pick some of the biggest and juiciest strawberries off the vines and letting me snack on a few while she picked them. Later she would make her version of strawberry shortcake using the naturally sweet strawberries, cool whip and buttery shortbread cookies. I’ve found this recipe that has all the flavors in one bite. I hope you all enjoy! INGREDIENTS 4 Ounces Granulated Sugar 8 Ounces Unsalted Butter, room temperature 12 Ounces All-purpose Flour ½ TSP Kosher Salt ½ Ounce Freeze-dried Strawberries STRAWBERRY GLAZE INGREDIENTS ¼ Cup Chopped Strawberries 1 Cup Powdered Sugar
Combine the chopped strawberries and powdered sugar in a food processor, process until no bits of powdered sugar or large chunks of berries remain. At this point, the glaze is ready for the cooled cookies. If you want a thicker glaze, add powdered sugar ½ cup at a time until it is the desired consistency. If you want a thinner glaze, add chopped berries, two tablespoons at a time.
THE PROVIDENCE PRESS
DIRECTIONS Preheat oven to 350°F. Place the sugar and the freeze-dried strawberries in the bowl of a food processor and process until freeze-dried strawberries are pulverized, about 30 seconds. Place the butter, strawberry-sugar mixture and salt in the bowl of a stand mixer with the paddle attachment and mix on medium speed until smooth about two minutes. Stop mixer, scrape down the bowl and add all the flour at once. Mix on low speed until all the flour is combined. The dough will be crumbly at this point. Increase the mixer speed to medium and mix until the dough has completely come together, about two minutes. Turn dough on to lightly-floured table and divide into four equal parts. Take each portion and roll the dough into 1½-inch thick logs. Refrigerate for two hours overnight. Cut logs into desired thickness and place on sheet pan with parchment paper. Bake the cookies for 8-12 minutes or until lightly golden brown. Take the cookies out of the oven and allow them to cool for about five minutes on the cookie sheet before moving them to a cookie rack to completely cool. The shortbread cookies can be stored in an airtight container for one week. PAGE 22

JUNE COOKIE OF THE MONTH: NO BAKE WHITE CHOCOLATE CRANBERRY COOKIE BY PATRICK BUDNIEWSKI, EXECUTIVE CHEF AT HH In the middle of the summer the last thing you want to do is turn on the oven and start to heat the house. That is where these cookies come into play. These cookies are quick and simple to make and are a great cool treat on a warm summer day. I like eating these straight out of the fridge. You can add chopped toasted almonds as an option or even substitute dried cherries instead of the dried cranberries. INGREDIENTS 4 Cups Granulated White Sugar 1 Cup Unsalted Butter, cubed 1 Cup 2% Milk 2 Cups White Chocolate Chips 1 TSP Almond Extract 6 Cups Old Fashioned Oats 2 Cups Dried Cranberries
DIRECTIONS In a large sauce pan over medium heat, combine butter, sugar and milk. Stir and continue to cook until butter is melted and sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat and add almond extract and chocolate chips. Stir until complexly combined. Add oats and cranberries and stir until fully coated. Portion into 1 TBSP spoonful's onto a parchment lined baking sheet. Put in refrigerator for 30 minutes, until hard. Store in air tight container.

PAULINA QUILLAHUAMAN HOUSEKEEPING SUPERVISOR
JARETT GOLDBERG F & B MANAGER
EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH MARCH 2022
EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH APRIL 2022
I have been at PCC for 7 years. I was promoted to Housekeeping Supervisor last year. I would like you to know that I have overcome obstacles such as language barrier, being a driver, being a home owner and becoming a supervisor. My favorite place to vacation is in Peru. If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be George W. Bush.
I have enjoyed being back a PCC. It's been great seeing our Members, old and new. I enjoy working with my son on model railroading and hand painting train cars. My family enjoyed our trip to Hawaii to celebrate my daughters bat mitzvah. I have been married to my lovely wife Rebecca for 17 years and she too is in the hospitality industry.
