MANAGER'S MESSAGE DEAR PROVIDENCE MEMBERS, The PCC train keeps rolling, as our nation celebrates its birthday in these anything but normal times! 2020 has been surreal for most of our country and honestly scary at times. No matter how tough times are, we endure, we rally around each other and look for the good in people and life in general. In my opinion, there is NO better country than the United States of America, despite its flaws and growing pains. I am, Red, White and Blue proud! It’s been so rewarding seeing many of you return to the Club and having a great time! I really want to take this opportunity to acknowledge the truly incredible work by the PCC Leadership and staff. There have been countless times over the last several months, where the leadership team has gone well above and beyond to deliver the best experience possible to our Members. The road map for bringing back staff during the Covid era looks a little like the maze you see on a kids menu! Despite these trials, the team has rallied on every occasion to fill the gaps and get the job done safely. Our rounds of golf, tennis and food and beverage have been extremely busy! Kudos to Kevin Reardon and his professional team for keeping up with all the demand for tee times. Our Club has seen an increase in rounds of over 26% and every process required new protocols and more work, often with less staff. I would be remiss, not to mention how impressed I’ve been with Kevin’s daily communications to our members. He puts his humor and personality into every detailed message he sends, awesome work, Pro! Kevin has increased golf activity and revenues by a shocking 60% since 2016, amazing! The feedback we have had about our golf course conditions has been awesome and we owe Chris Parham and his agronomy crew a big tip of the hat and a huge thank you, well done Chris! Tennis activity has increased tremendously over last year at this time and very successfully, thanks to the hard work and organization by William Noblitt our Director of Tennis. William and his team have done a great job keeping all the play organized while trying to accommodate special needs and adhering to all health and safety guidelines. The best way to describe the Covid effect on food and beverage, pool and eventually fitness is INTENSE. The adjustments have been daunting and we absolutely needed a true team effort to get it right. I cannot thank Steve Windham, our Clubhouse Manager enough for his tireless leadership and desire to help PCC succeed! Steve and his team continue to work hard on re-opening operations. The creativity in Chef Jason’s menus, Steve and Carmen’s wine deals and all of the Curbside programs has been fantastic and it continues to receive high member satisfaction comments. We were able to bring on a new F&B Director just before Covid hit, so please welcome, Carmen Ganoe, he has been a huge asset to Steve’s team. Also, just prior to this mess, we were so excited to have Dee Wood return to Providence as our Director of Catering. Dee is ready to roll as one of the best wedding and event planners in Charlotte! Kym Reed our Fitness and Activities Director has done an amazing job helping our member’s workout virtually and she is chomping at the bit to break out her new Fitness programs and Summer Camps, in person! There are many other PCC leaders who work behind the scenes, yet they have been just as incredible as those previously mentioned. Kathy Kelly and Connie have taken Communications and the front desk operations to a completely new level. It became the Command Center for all Take Out (which was massive at times) while being the communications hub for all of our members and staff! You truly cannot imagine the volume of information that flows through that reception area, it’s mind-blowing. Please help me thank these ladies for their amazing efforts whenever you find yourself calling the Club. Many adjustments had to be made within the Clubhouse for the new guidelines as well as other facilities on property. Our Facilities professionals, Dan Thomas, Patrick Hinman and Gary Pressley did a phenomenal job and we really appreciate their specialty work. Meanwhile, Laura Bohling our Membership Director, professionally navigated the challenging Covid restrictions, while trying to keep the lifeblood of PCC, its membership, going strong. Thank you, Laura! Our last unsung hero of late is Scott Reisterer, our Club Accountant and HR Director. I think it’s a fair comment the government programs are complicated to say the least and there are many conflicting details. Scott has been spot on and very helpful, often adjusting on the fly. We could not have handled the staffing changes and concerns without his help. Scott made sure he was always there for our Members accounting needs as well. Ladies and gentlemen, there are many others on our team that help make Providence Country Club the place people want to be. As you can see by this communication, I am extremely grateful to be blessed with these outstanding professionals. I hope that you will join me in thanking them through our actions, being kind and courteous goes a long way, especially in today’s world. My final and biggest thanks, goes out to all of our Providence Members. You have supported this Club and McConnell Golf throughout the pandemic. The spirit of community we all feel has kept us going each and every day. Thank you, again!

As always, I look forward to seeing you at the Club. Sincerely, HOWARD S. MURPHY, JR. CCM Corporate Director of Culinary Operations Providence Country Club General Manager

CLUBHOUSE MANAGER'S MESSAGE AND EVENTS Dear Members, What a year 2020 has turned out to be so far. None of us would’ve predicted this is how our year would be playing out. Through all the ups and downs the last few months has given each of us I can say without hesitation this experience has brought our community closer together and helped to build stronger relationships. For those of us that still have kids at home this pandemic has allowed us to spend more time with our families then ever before. With all of the devastation we all have witnessed I have also seen more acts of kindness and compassion then I have ever seen before as well. We are a resilient people and we will all get through this together as a community. The more we are able to do for one another the easier the road ahead will be for all of us. Summer is normally one of the busiest times for our club, with swim team activities, summer camps, golf tournaments, and other club events. As we navigate back to some sense of normalcy we will continue to practice a high-level of cleaning and sanitation throughout our entire property while also keeping social distancing I mind. We have a responsibility to help ensure that our property remains a safe haven for all of our Members even though sometimes that means saying “no” in some situations. Even though we train all of our hospitality associates to be on the “yes” business, we have to do the next right thing for the entirety of our membership. So, thank you for your understanding of this as we continue down this road together. We are very hopeful that our governor will allow us to move into phase 3 which would allow us to host so many of our annual club events that I know many of you look forward to every year. Our July 3 fireworks ceremony is one of the first that come to mind as we move into summer months. Many of our club events will look and feel a little different than they have in years past. These are part of the growing pains of adjusting to our new way of business. With the limited volume we have seen in our a la cart business over the last month we will continue to keep our hours and days limited. Some of our promotional nights will start back in July and August. Keep a lookout for the E blasts to come. We sincerely appreciate all of the support and encouragement that you all have given us during these unsettling times. Your words of encouragement and letters of thankfulness are part of what keeps us going every day. We will continue to remain optimistic and positive as pull together as a community during these uncharted times. “Remember, happiness doesn’t depend upon who you are or what you have; it depends solely upon what you think. So start each day by thinking of all the things you have to be thankful for. Your future will depend very largely on the thoughts you think today. So think thoughts of hope and confidence and love and success.” -Dale Carnegie STEVE WINDHAM Clubhouse Manager

Are ready for a celebration? Whether you are planning a Wedding, Wedding Reception, Birthday, Retirement Dinner, Baby Shower, or Corporate Meeting, Dee and Kendall are your go-to team. MEMBERSHIP THE LITTLE THINGS: We made it to the finish line; school (or whatever that blur of Zoom meetings and worksheets was) is over and summer is finally here! As we slowly and safely resume activities at home and at the club, I’ve found myself feeling very grateful for the little things. In my 7th year at PCC, I’ve walked literally hundreds of Prospective Members over to visit the pool complex but somehow this season, seeing all of you out there enjoying the pool with your children and grandchildren it feels like the first time. The friendly smiles, the laughter, the popsicles, the electricity of summer in its simplest form just makes me smile. I’d like to thank our team for rising to the challenges of new guidelines, new policies and a new normal and I’d also like to thank our Members for your patience as we navigate all these new challenges. It’s great to see you all and it’s great to be back. Here’s to a different but wildly fun summer at PCC! LAURA BOHLING Membership Director

PCC’S 2020 GAME IMPROVEMENT PACKAGE Back by popular demand, the Professional Staff is pleased to offer the 2020 Game Improvement Package! Features (10) 1/2 Hour Golf Lessons, using Video Analysis. (1) 9 Hole Playing Lesson. All for $350!

GETTING HEIGHT WITH A DRIVER Many members struggle hitting the driver with enough height and generating proper spin. If you struggle to get the ball airborne or carry the ball as far as you’d like, try hitting drivers with more weight set back to you back foot on the takeaway. On the way through feel as though you are clipping the tee with the face of the driver swinging up. Hitting down on the ball will cause you to break tees and generate spin that won’t help your distance but in fact negatively impact your distance. Grab a member of our staff to put you on the FlightScope and show you your numbers….It’s a lot of fun and very educational. Hit ‘em straight!

THE PROVIDENCE PRESS

Junior Improvement Package, Ages 13 and under which will include (5) 1/2 Hour Lessons, Introduction to the Rules of Golf, Course Etiquette and a Club Evaluation. All for $150! Please contact the Golf Professional Shop at 704.846.6325 for more information.

GREENS AND GROUNDS PCC GOLF COURSE The month of June was a very good productive month for the maintenance staff. Coming off of record breaking rainfall amounts in May the course held up extremely well. The staff did an outstanding job getting the course cleaned and playable after all the rain events. During the month of June we took 4 days to do our yearly cultural practice on the course. We aerified the greens, tees and fairways. One of the processes we used this year was DryJect. DryJect uses a high-speed, water-based injection system to blast aeration holes through the root zone to fracture the soil. The patented vacuum technology simultaneously fills holes to the surface with high volumes of sand or amendment. This means you can relieve compaction, increase water infiltration, reach the root zone with oxygen and amend your soil with high volumes of material all at the same time. Plus DryJect leaves the surface smooth and playable. The pictures below shows this process. The one on the right you can see the sand channel, the other is the machine that was used. We injected over 70 tons of sand into the greens doing the DryJect.

The tees were done with the normal core aerification where we pulled cores. The fairways we used a solid ž inch tines to punch holes into the fairways. To do all these cultural practices was very well orchestrated plan. We needed all 4 long days. The staff did a fantastic job getting everything done on time. Why we do aerification. I have attached a USGA green section article nice reference for why we aerate. https://www.usga.org/content/usga/home-page/clubhouse/2017-ungated/09-17-ungated/5-things-every-golfer-should-knowabout-aeration.html I hope everyone continues to enjoy the summer and continues to stay safe. See you out on the course, CHRIS PARHAM Golf Course Superintendent
