MANAGER'S MESSAGE Dear Providence Members, I hope this message finds you well and excited for the summer season. For most people, Memorial Day means a day off of work, barbecues, family picnics, and pools opening for the summer season. But as we all know, the true meaning of Memorial Day is much more than an “opening day” for summer fun. It’s a calling to honor those courageous American men and women who have served and given their lives for our freedom, liberty, and peace. Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day? After the Civil War, it was designated as a time to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers. By the 20th century, the day became known as Memorial Day and was extended to honor all Americans who have died in Military Service. God bless them all and their families. We have adjusted all of our hours of operation in Food and Beverage for the summer season and I’d like to highlight a few things. We’ve added a new “Grab and Go” service on Friday’s and Saturday’s from 11am to 1pm at the Range between #9 Green and #10 Tee box. Just a simple menu of a few proteins and sandwich options with beverages. We have initiated this offering to help expedite the process of purchasing food and beverages as you make the turn during your round of golf. Additionally, there is now a reminder Menu and McConnell App instructions at the #8 Tee box to also help trigger timely food orders to the Turnhouse, again to help people maintain their spot on the course and NOT delay the groups behind. Our Golf Ops team has also offered to help deliver food on the course to those that forgot to order in advance. We have brought back the very popular Weekend Grill which is set up behind the clubhouse by the Awning from noon to 3pm every Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting. Please note; the Clubhouse is locked up and alarmed with NO ACCESS on Monday afternoons at 4pm (exception-golf outing Monday’s) and Sunday’s at 6pm. Sunday golfer’s especially, please plan ahead and DO NOT leave necessary items (Car Keys, etc) in your lockers. PCC Pool re-opening for 2021, anyone interested? Haha!! We are super excited to open the pool for the new season and also welcome back our PIRANHA’S!! We have done away with pool reservations this year but we will absolutely still maintain our cleaning protocols. The pool hours of operation are easy to remember. They are 10am to 2:30pm, closed for an hour of cleaning and re-arranging furniture then 3:30pm to 8pm. We will go full time, seven days a week starting June 1. As is our tradition, we will open the Pool two weekends prior to the Memorial Day weekend. Starting Saturday, May 15th, Sunday May 16th, Saturday, May 22nd and Sunday May 23rd. Adult lap swim will be back again this year, details to follow. TOWEL service will resume at the pool this year after the Memorial Day holiday, beginning Friday, June 4th. There will be a new procedure this year to help control the flow of towels, especially while we continue to observe Covid concerns. Ladies and gentlemen of Providence Country Club, on behalf of your team of dedicated professionals, we welcome you back for another awesome summer. Please let us know what we can do to make your PCC memories the best ever! As always, I look forward to seeing you at the Club. Sincerely, HOWARD S. MURPHY, JR. CCM Corporate Director of Culinary Operations Providence Country Club General Manager

AGM MESSAGE & EVENTS DEAR MEMBERS, As we move into our summer months here at PCC we are excited to be able to host many of the activities that our Members have come to know and love that we were not able to host last year. Our annual Mother’s Day Brunch, which I know many of our families look forward to every year will be held in the Grand Ballroom this year. Our Dad’s seem to enjoy a more casual and carnivorous affair, so we will be hosting our Father’s Day BBQ pool party this year. Swim Team is back and better than ever with our new Swim Parents lining up all sorts of activities for the little ones. I am proud to announce our newest addition to our PCC Hospitality Management Team, Chase Massey. Many of our Members already know Chase as our Men’s Card Room bartender. It is with great pleasure that we are able to promote Chase to our Dining Room Supervisor position. Chase has done an outstanding job for us over the past 2 ½ years and we are excited to see him continue to grow in his career with us.

With the beautiful weather upon us we are excited to get back to our outdoor Member events and activities. I look forward to seeing you all around property and getting to know ALL of the new Members we have been onboarding this year. Sincerely, STEVE WINDHAM Assistant General Manager

TRAIN TRACK DRILL Eliminating 3-putts should be key to all of us who want to lower our scores and our handicap. Being able to make 5 footers consistently isn’t that hard if you put in the work.Start with the “Train Track” drill to work on starting the ball on the proper line and listen to the ball hit the hole as it falls in. Making 3 foot putts using alignment sticks is very simple. Place 2 sticks as shown at the hole, hit putts from the end of the sticks through the track. After you get the hang of the short putts, move back behind the sticks and continue to roll the ball through the sticks. Before you know it, you’ll be making many more 5 footers….

GREENS AND GROUNDS

PCC GOLF COURSE UPDATE There has been a lot going on out on the golf course recently. We have been working on finishing various projects throughout the course such as the drainage and landscape renovation next to the bathrooms on hole fourteen, the tree and sod project on hole twelve, installing new matting on all of the bridges, and removing a few trees to enhance certain areas. The turf is thriving in the warm temperatures and course definition is getting more and more dialed in with every time we mow, along with some increased fertility to help with plant health and combatting cart traffic. In addition to staying on top of regular course maintenance, this is a very busy time of year with some big time events on the calendar over the next few months including Crown Cup in May, two Korn Ferry Tour events at McConnell properties, and finally aerification week in June. The process for greens aerification this summer will be slightly more aggressive than it has been since the new greens were established in 2018. We will start the week before with extra nutrients and fertility to ramp up plant processes for speedy recovery after the aerification process is complete. The plan is to pull 0.5 inch cores at 5.5 inches deep going one direction, fill those holes, then go back around and pull 0.375 inch cores at 5.0 inches deep going a different direction and fill more holes. This should remove plenty of organic matter and allow us to “hit the reset button” with thatch management. Thatch is the layer just beneath the canopy that is made up of organic matter, stolons, and rhizomes. Too much thatch can cause the greens to become soft, can prevent nutrient and water infiltration, hinder gas exchange and root growth, and promote root disease if fungicides can’t reach the root zone. Starting this year, we have switched to a different topdressing sand. This is the sand we use to do our weekly or bi-weekly topdressing. We do this to dilute organic matter and thatch and also keep the greens firm and smooth. In the past, we have used a sand that was made up of 25% very fine, 34% fine, and 33% medium size sand particles. Over time, this has shown to cause problems with getting water into the greens, and has shown signs of “sealing them up” by clogging pore space. We are now using a sand with a different particle analysis, shifting to 10% very fine, 39% fine, and 45% medium size particles. In order to further “hit the reset button” with the greens, we will fill aerification holes with a very coarse sand that is different from what we use to topdress. The end result will provide us with plenty of open pore space for root growth and a much higher water infiltration rate, all while removing harmful material and letting them breathe. See you on the course, MARK SCOTT Golf Course Superintendent

MAY COOKIE OF THE MONTH: CLEAR-THE-CUPBOARD COCONUT OATMEAL PECAN COOKIE Rhett Sorg - The Reserve Golf Club at Pawley’s Island

Having first had them at a friend’s house, her mother had made them for her for years. She was not really interested in them at all, having eaten “thousands” of them. Kind of like a Lays Chip “Can’t eat just one”. So I ate all that were there. As time went on I met her mother and we talked about the cookies and how I’m not a very good baker. We went to the kitchen and “cleared the cupboard” and made the cookies. I have been a big fan ever since and make them occasionally for my kids when they come home. Haven’t had any left over’s yet!!!! INGREDIENTS 1 Cup Shortening 1 Cup Granulated Sugar 1 Cup Brown Sugar, firmly packed 2 Large Eggs 2 Cups AP Flour 1 Cup Uncooked Oats 1 TSP Baking Soda

1 TSP Baking Powder 1 TSP Salt 1 Cup Flaked Coconut 1 Cup Crisp Rice Cereal 1 TSP Vanilla Extract 1 Cup Pecans, chopped

DIRECTIONS Beat shortening at medium speed with electric mixer until fluffy; add sugars, beat well. Add eggs, beat until blended. Combine flour, oats, baking soda, baking powder, and salt; gradually add to sugar mixture, beating until blended. Stir in coconut, cereal, vanilla, and pecans. Drop by Tablespoonfuls onto baking sheets. Bake in batches at 350°F for 10 minutes or until lightly golden. Remove to wire cooling rack.

JUNE COOKIE OF THE MONTH: NO BAKE COOKIES Beverly Marler - Sedgefield Country Club One of my personal favorite combinations is always chocolate and peanut butter. My mom used to make these for us when we were younger except she would joke around and call them cow patties. She likes to make these during the summer months to avoid the heat of cutting on the oven. I remember anxiously awaiting for dinner to be over so we could have a no bake cookie and robbing the fridge when there were extras!! INGREDIENTS 1/2 Cup Unsalted Butter 1 ¾ Cups Granulated Sugar 1/3 Cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder 1/2 Cup Milk 1 TSP Vanilla Extract 2/3 Cup Creamy Peanut Butter 3 Cups Quick Oats Dash of Salt

DIRECTIONS Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. In a 2.5 to 3 quart medium saucepan combine butter, sugar, cocoa, and milk. Set over medium heat, and cook, stirring frequently until it reaches a full boil (should be rolling boil/bubbling). Allow mixture to boil for 60 seconds without stirring. Remove from heat, immediately add in vanilla, peanut butter and quick oats. Stir mixture until well combined, then, using a medium (2 TBSP) cookie scoop or two spoons drop mixture onto lined baking sheets. Refrigerate until set. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature.
