Upcoming Golf Events

In the event of hazardous weather conditions, it is the responsibility of individual golfers to decide whether or not to continue play. Players should consider the predicted weather conditions and information they may get from the Pro Shop. During Club sponsored events, including MGA and LGA events, the Pro Shop will suspend play if it believes players’ safety may be jeopardized by hazardous weather. During Club events players will be notified as follows:

August 4th & 18th: Par Gals

No facility that we know of has a set up close to what we have. Please be patient as we learn and adjust as we go. MONDAY: Closed All Day for Maintenance WEDNESDAY, FRIDAY, SUNDAY: 7:30am-2pm: Practice Only | 3pm: Short Course Play Only TUESDAY, THURSDAY, SATURDAY: 7:30am– Close: Practice Only All Day For safety reasons, we ask that members DO NOT practice while the course is open for Play and please DO NOT attempt to play the course when it is time for Practice only. Turf Notes

By: Chris Parham, PNCC Golf Course Superintendent

Greetings from the golf course maintenance department. We are excited to be finishing up the driving range project! All the grass has been sodded and we are just letting the grass get established. The anticipated opening of the driving range and short game area sometime in August. The 3-day close in July gave us the opportunity to do some cultural practices to the course. Using a ¾ inch coring tine on fairways, we managed to pull over 23,522,400 plugs out of the fairways. How did we come up with that number? We had 18 holes per square foot, 43,560 square feet in an acre times 30 acres of fairways. Additionally, over 3,920,400 plugs were pulled out of tees and 5,488,560 plugs were pulled out of the greens. We than followed up verticutting the greens and ended up verticutting a total of 6 times. Our goal was to remove thatch and work on reducing grain that tends to develop in greens. This work to the greens will allow them to recover in short order. Maybe not as fast as one would like but they will heal up in due time. We have started adding yardage numbers to the sprinkler heads and expect to be finished by the second week of August. . This yardage is to the middle of every green. We continue to try and make the course better every week. I hope everyone has had a chance to enjoy golf out at PNCC. See you out on the course.

Later in July, Tara Kuehner and Lydia Le (pictured left) passed from Division Two- 50 yards, graduating to Division Three- 100 yards. Kenzie Le, on her final attempt, passes Division One - 25 yards. Sam Alexander, not pictured, did a great job shooting 33 to pass Division Two- 50 yards.

Back to School...FUN Facts!

1. A single pencil can draw a line 35 miles long! 2. School buses have been around since 1915, but the official color of bright yellow wasn't adopted until 1939. 3. The first eraser was bread! It was nothing more than a balled-up piece of moist bread. In 1770, English engineer Edward Narine accidently picked up a piece of rubber instead of bread. In doing so, he discovered that rubber was far more effective at rubbing out pencil marks.
