COOKIES OF THE MONTH NOVEMBER - MOLASSES COOKIES Kenric Hunt - Brook Valley Country Club
This cookie has been one of my own favorites to buy (Famous Amos) molasses cookies. My very first job was working at Piggly Wiggly where a portion of my check went to buying cookies. Also the taste of them reminds me of time spent with my father as we would eat them often after dinner or for a snack!

EMPLOYEE HOLIDAY FUND The past 20 months have been challenging in so many ways. On behalf of the McConnell Golf family and Porters Neck Country Club, we would like to extend a big “Thank You” to all for your continued support. As in year’s past, we are asking you to join the holiday spirit and contribute to our Employee Holiday Fund. Contributing to the fund is a thoughtful way to show your appreciation to our heroes – our awesome staff who have truly excelled during these unprecedented times! While contributing to the fund is voluntary, adjustments to the fund received by November 30, 2021 will be reflected on your December statement. The contribution will then be distributed among all Porters Neck Country Club employees throughout all departments.

Notes From the Pro By: Robert Loper PNCC Head Golf Professional
Here are a couple of items that we see happen on the course that many people seem to not follow. 90 Degree Cart Rule – When carts are allowed on the course, players should stay on the path until they are even with the first ball in the fairway. The players should then drive out straight out to the ball. Then carts should be driven in the fairway, not the rough, to the last ball in fairway or the exit sign. Then the cart should be driven straight over to cart path and up to green. When you are entering a bunker, try to enter on the low side of bunker, do not enter from the high or green side. Entering on the low side is much safer and players do not make as deep footprints that make it much easier to rake.

Be mindful of where you stand while other players are hitting shots. Safety is the number one concern here while the other concern is being in the sight of the player hitting a shot. On the green, never stand close to the hole or on the extended line of the person putting on the green. On full shots, it’s usually best to stand to the front side of the person playing and slightly behind the ball. Push/pull carts should never be taken on top of a tee box, should never be any closer than 10 yards from a green. So that means they should never be on a collar or go between a greenside bunker and the green. Always remember to fill in your divots with sand, rake your bunker and repair ball marks. POST | GOLF

Q: My ball was at rest on the putting green. No one was standing near the ball or taking any actions to cause it to move. Suddenly the ball start rolling and came to rest several feet closer to the hole. What is the ruling in this situation? A: It depends. Since it was virtually certain that no player or outside influence caused the movement, the ruling is that it was caused by natural forces, such as wind, water, or the effects of gravity. If you had already lifted and replaced the ball on the spot from which it moved, you would replace the ball on that spot. If you had not already replaced the ball on the spot from which it moved, then you would play the ball from where it came to rest after the movement. There is no penalty in either case. POST | GOLF

UPDATED SHORT COURSE SCHEDULE With the time change, we will be adjusting the hours for the practice area. Please remember to rake the practice bunkers after you are done and repair ball marks on the practice greens. The short game tees are not meant for someone to drop a bucket of balls and hit to a green. This tears up the teeing area and really leaves a lot of ball marks on the greens that are not easily repaired. Please use the driving range for that type of practice. We have a one of a kind short game area, let’s do our part to keep it nice.
DRIVING RANGE SCHEDULE
Monday Closed All Day for Maintenance Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday Practice All Day Friday & Sunday Practice Until 2:30 PM Play 3 Hole Short Course Until 5:00 PM
Monday: Closed All Day Tuesday – Sunday: 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM
We will be using a rope on the range to help define the hitting area each day. We ask that you always hit in front of the rope. The driving range will close every evening at 5:00 PM. The addition of multiple targets and bunkers have made cleaning the range more time consuming.
Full Golf members and their guests have access to the practice facilities before a round of golf. If a Full Golf member brings a guest to use the range and/or play the short course, the guest fee will be $15.
All 10-12 flags on the target areas will be all white and have reflectors for rangefinder use. There will be no yardage markings on the range. We have added some Laser Link rangefinders on the range that will look like birdhouses. These are available to anyone that may need the use of a rangefinder.
Sports and Clubhouse members DO NOT have access to the short game area and driving range unless they are playing golf. We are limiting usage due to the demand of golf course usage and practice facilities. We will evaluate this policy at the end of the year
