Porters Neck Members, Spring is finally here, and the club is coming alive again with activity. There has been a lot of excitement about Porters Neck Country Club and Mandy has been busy welcoming many new members to our club. We anticipate reaching our long-term goal of 600 memberships by May. We will will continue to monitor our membership growth and how it impacts the availability of the club's amenities.

PRACTICE FACILITY RENOVATIONS Chris and his team continue to prep the course for the season and have officially started our practice facility renovations. Below is the proposed layout of the short game area and driving range, as well as a video with the current progress. The practice green will be closed beginning this week and the driving range is anticipated to close the 3rd week in April. We know that this will be an inconvenience for several months, but the final result will be worth the wait. I will keep you updated as the project progresses.

Enhancement Details 360 Degree Short Game area with 4 Hole Short course Routing, with closely mown turf throughout New 8,500 Square feet Putting Green Rebuild and lower entire Driving Range tee to offer better visibility from the rear of the tee. Slope the tee towards the front for better drainage. Well defined target greens with zoysia definition Bunkers around target greens with solid surface for ball retrieval

SPORTS CENTER UPDATE We have adjusted our reservation schedule for the fitness center. The duration of time has been increased to 1 hour and 45 minutes and we will allow up to 20 registrants per slot. The staff continues to thoroughly clean every 45 minutes and we also plan to further space out the cardio equipment to ensure more are available for use. Masks continue to be required and enforced in the fitness center. The lap pool is also being prepped for reopening. Per the Governor's recent announcement, pools will be back to 100% capacity. The annual pool inspection is scheduled the week of April 5th and we plan to open shortly after approval. The online tennis shop is now available for Porters Neck members! The tennis shop includes a wide variety of men's and ladies' apparel and equipment for both tennis and pickleball. You are welcome to access the online tennis shop via the 'Online Tennis Shop' link, located on the PNCC website under, 'Court Sports'

SOCIAL EVENTS & NEW MENU Our F&B team has an exciting month of events planned for you. We welcome back our Easter traditions with the Easter Eggstravaganza and egg hunt on April 3rd. General Manager's Message, Cont'd from page 4. Lastly, I want to personally commend our team as they have been working hard to service all aspects of the club since the business has dramatically increased. I ask for your patience and generosity as we diligently try to recruit additional service personnel. This past year was devastating for the hospitality industry, especially for the workforce. Most restaurants, including Porters, were forced to operate with reduced staff for nearly a year. Now that restaurants are starting to get busy…quickly, we all face a similar challenge of staffing up. The positive news is we have recently welcomed several new team members, over the past few weeks. Sincerely,

Jason Seehafer General Manager, Porters Neck Country Club

McConnell Golf Magazine

M o ntan na Wiggs

The 2021 spring edition of the McConnell Golf magazine was recently published and....wow! Several of our Porters Neck members were featured with fantastic articles and testimonials about their experience at Porters Neck CC. It was great to see interesting developments for our sister properties, including the golf renovations at Raleigh Country Club. For more information about any of our sister properties, please see your management team at Porters Neck or visit mcconnellgolf.com.

Employee of the Month Congratulations to Montana Wiggs, PNCC's Employee of the Month! Montana, our Head Tennis & Pickleball (and now Bocce) Professional has been with the Porters Neck team for just over a year. He is such a gentle soul and a FIERCE tennis player and coach. Together with our Director of Tennis & Pickleball, Rafa, Montana makes up one half of the increasingly popular, DYNAMIC DUO! He was genuinely surprised when we interrupted his tennis clinic and told him the good news. All of the junior tennis player started chanting, 'Montana! Montana!' Thank you, Montana Wiggs, for being the awesome teammate that you are! POST | CLUB NEWS

March Madness

March turned out to be quite an exciting month for us at Porters Neck. Our first annual St. Patrick's Day 5K was a great success with over $1,00 raised for McConnell Golf Footprint on the Green philanthropic projects. We held the 2021 Tennis Ladder Championships and started our first bocce league! The Porters Neck Home & Garden donated over 6,000 items to the local NC Diaper Bank. PNCC Junior, Sophia Catino, won the Pawleys Island Tennis Tournament in early March. She won the girls 16's division, beating the #1 seed in the finals! Porters Neck junior, Bella Ryan (pictured right), is so happy to have completed her agility training course! She is training for future competitions and has promised to keep us posted on her progress. POST | CLUB NEWS

Traveling to Sister McConnell Properties Members who have full golf privileges at their home facility are allowed to play McConnell Golf Sister owned Properties 12 times per calendar year FOR CART FEE ONLY with no more than 6 OF THOSE times at any one property. Members will be billed the appropriate cart fee(s) for each round of golf. (BV must be a Founding Golf member or have added MCG upgrade, WE must be Golfing Class I & II). The 12 times per year and 6 times at one facility policy applies to the membership as a whole and not per person on the membership. Once a member has exceeded either the 12 times total play or 6 times at one MCG owned facility, any subsequent visit(s) will result in being charged the appropriate guest fee at the respected property being played. Tee times are to be arranged through the home club professional staff after 12:00 pm using the standard tee time policy of one week in advance for weekday tee times and the Wednesday prior for weekend tee times and holidays based on availability. Members that would like to travel and arrange their tee time in advance must do so through their home club professional staff. To protect home club member’s access to the tee sheet, tee times made outside of the standard tee time policy of one week in advance can expect to secure a tee time of 12:00 pm or later, especially groups of 8 or more POST | GOLF

When traveling to Old North State Club, Musgrove Mill and Sedgefield CC, MCG members who arrange lodging on property through our staff can play multiple times during their visit. Regardless of the number of rounds played, only one (1) round will apply towards the 12 times total/6 times at one facility rule. Traveling to MCG facilities that do not have onsite lodging, each round played will count individually towards the 12 times total/6 times at one facility rule. Spouses and dependent members who play together either in the same group or on the same day at a Sister MCG property can do so with all rounds played only counting as one (1) towards the 12 times total/6 times at one facility rule.Spouses and dependent members who play on the same day but at different facilities, each round played will count individually towards the 12 times total/6 times at one facility rule with the exception of multiple dependent members playing in the same group or consecutive tee times. No personal coolers are permitted on the courseunless provided by the Club. Outside coolers and beverages are prohibited. Practice area access at clubs other than your home club is strictly limited to prior to a scheduled tee time or receiving a lesson. cont'd on next page. PAGE 18

Traveling to Sister Properties, Cont'd from page 15 Rounds played at other clubs in McConnell Golf and/or club sponsored events (such as Member/Guest, McConnell Interclub, Ryder/Solheim Cup, etc.) will not count toward the reciprocal round count. Rounds played while your home club is hosting a non-member tournament for multiple days (ex. Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield) do not count towards the 12 times total and 6 times at one facility rule. Tee times must be arranged by home club professional staff for play at McConnell Golf managed properties. Rounds played do not count toward the McConnell 12x/6x reciprocal rule. The Professional staff at each facility will monitor the number of plays toward this policy and will communicate this information to members as they near the 12 time play/6 time at one facility rule. As a reminder, at this time face coverings are still required inside all indoor facilities and outdoors when you cannot maintain 6 feet of physical distance from others who are not in your group. Thank you for continuing to be mindful of this requirement. We appreciate your ongoing support and look forward to the golf season ahead.

Pride In Our Course

Taking care of our course is not the sole responsibility of our maintenance staff. The players are an integral part of how the course is maintained. Here are a couple of things that as players we should always do. 1. Always repair your ball mark on the green. If you hit a shot of more than 10 yards, you are making a pitch mark on the green. Please take the time to repair your ball marks. An unrepaired mark takes almost 2 weeks to heal. 2. Fill in your divots in the fairway with sand. This acts like a topdressing for the grass and allows for a more uniform surface for the grass to grow in. If you are walking and do not have sand, at least try to kick in the sides of the divot as best as possible. 3. Rake the bunkers – Who gets mad when they hit in a bunker and it is unraked? Have respect for your fellow member and rake the bunker after you play out of it. Also, other than the greens, the bunkers are the most labor-intensive part of the course. So, the better we rake the bunkers, the less time the staff has to be in them. 4. Pull Carts – Pull carts should stay at least 10 yards from the putting surface at all times. This allows for better growth of the turf in compressed areas thus making it easier to play a shot from. Everyone likes a little grass under their ball to chip from. 5. Golf Carts do most of the damage to the course, especially when course is wet. When we are cart path only, stay on the path at all times! Don’t try to sneak into the natural areas or don’t try to go around the cart in front of you. That’s when most of the ruts appear. The cart path in many places keeps the water from draining and therefore is extremely soft in areas near the path. POST | GOLF

Turf Notes

By: Chris Parham, PNCC Golf Course Superintendent

We have been very active the first 3 months of 2021. An overview of what we got accomplished: The irrigation project is moving along very well, we have 12 holes done. The first full week of April, we will be moving to hole 10. Hopefully we will be finished by May. We have been working on overall course cleanup. Our cleanup has consisted of trimming, removing overgrown landscape material, improving the look of the landscape beds and adding pine straw. By using the sod on the practice area, we have been able to repair several areas that were in need of refurbishment.

The practice area work is moving along well, the demo work and tree work is done. Now, the construction company will start moving and shaping the new practice area. The golf course is starting to green up. We did have a big Poa annua (green grass in the fairways) challenge out on the course. We applied a non-selective herbicide to kill the Poa. We had a very successful reaction from the application. We had a 90-95 % reduction of the green Poa out on the course. Now the Bermuda grass will have a chance to strive and grow. The greens have come out of the winter in good shape. We have started our verticutting and top-dressing cultural practices. Our plan is to implement these practices on a weekly basis when the weather gets warm and stays warm. Topdressing improves putting greens smoothness, increases firmness and dilutes thatch. Thatch is a layer of dead and living plant material just below the turf surface. ... Topdressing to dilute thatch as it accumulates is necessary to maintain firm, smooth and healthy putting greens. I hope everyone is staying safe and enjoying the course when they can.

Aquatic News It’s hard to believe we have reached the beginning of another pool season. Based on Governor Cooper’s latest update, pools may open at 100% capacity however social distancing and cleaning guidelines are still in place. This means that you may come and go to the pools at your leisure during normal hours of operation. We will not be using the reservation system for everyday use however when the time comes, we may have a reservation system for events at the pool as they are currently capped at 75%. We will assess the situation as we get closer to those dates. Below you will find the latest information on our pools.

Members between the ages of 14-16 are allowed to use the lap pool as an extension of the sports center after going through a scheduled orientation with the Aquatics Director. POST | AQUATICS
