Marbled Valentine Sugar Cookies Cookie of the Month SEAN O'NEILL, EXECUTIVE CHEF AT TREYBURN CC

This is a simple cookie recipe that will last for generations. My Nonni used to make these cookies for me when I was younger; at first to be her valentine, then to give to my valentine. Now I make them with my daughter and tell her she is my valentine. Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS ½ Cup Unsalted Butter, softened ½ Cup Granulated Sugar 1 Large Egg 1½ TSP Vanilla Extract

¼ TSP Salt ½ TSP Baking Powder 2 Cup AP Flour Red Gel food coloring

DIRECTIONS 1. In a large bowl or stand mixer, beat together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in egg and vanilla, followed by salt and baking powder. Scrape the bowl as needed. Gradually mix in flour, increasing speed as needed until dough is fully combined and no streaks remain. 2. Divide dough in half, transferring half to a clean bowl, set aside. Add a small amount of dark pink gel food coloring to the remaining dough. Beat until fully tinted and no streaks remain. 3. Pinch off golf ball sized portions of dough, rolling into balls. Create a pattern of alternate colored balls of dough on your work station. Gently, knead all dough together until swirls of color are visible. Do not over mix.

POST | CLUB NEWS

4. Shape into a disc and wrap in plastic. Chill for 30-60 minutes. 5. Preheat oven to 350°F. Prepare a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper. 6. Roll out dough to ¼-inch thick, on a lightly floured surface. Cut out heart shapes. Space two inches apart on a prepared baking sheet. Freeze cookies for 15 minutes. Press together remaining dough and scraps, re-wrap in plastic and keeping chilled until ready to roll and cut again. 7. .Bake at 350°F for 12 minutes. Allow cookies to rest on the pan for two minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Named a “Winery to Watch” in 2016, Cristie and Kerr Cellars were also featured on the October 2021 Wine Spectator cover. Turf Notes Mother Nature has welcomed us into 2022 with a bang! We have had very unusual cold temperatures and due to the colder temperatures, we have had to cover greens for 5 days in the last week of January. We will be very conservative when we see the forecast for extremely low temps. We hope for a mild February so everyone can enjoy the course. We have started the year with working on course cleanup. An example of the areas that we have been addressing is the right side of the cart path on hole 8. We went down the right side and just cleaned up the overgrown vegetation and improved sight lines for the OB markers. This was a big improvement in this area. We took advantage of the course being closed the last week of January and applied our preemergent herbicide for spring and summer weed control.

Par Gals WEDNESDAY, MARCH 9TH & 23RD | 9:00 Meet Coach Dana outside of the Pro Shop at 9:00 AM. Sign up using the calendar and not the tee sheet. Par Gals is a playing lesson club for advanced beginner ladies or current 9 -hole ladies and is taught by Dana Kovich. By: Chris Parham, PNCC Golf Course Superintendent We are really pleased with how our fall pre-emergent application for winter weeds went this year compared to last year. There is very little Poa out on the course and a nice clean dormant Bermuda grass. During the month of February, we will be working on various projects around the golf course. Repair work at the clubhouse with a Manlift. Using the lift some and addressing the low hanging limbs throughout the course. Completing some much-needed reorganizing and cleaning up of the golf course maintenance compound. We are hopeful for a nice spring transition. Look forwarding to seeing you out on the course.

Bogey Girls THURSDAY, MARCH 10TH & 24TH | 3:00 PM Meet Coach Dana outside of the Pro Shop at 3:00 PM. Sign up using the calendar and not the tee sheet. No pressure - just fun! Playing lessons include: Instruction on the Driving Range as well as on the Golf Course with Dana Kovich in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. tee off with the putter, and hit all shots afterward with the putter. HOLE 9: Scramble. Must use the ball farthest from the hole when the team reaches the green and on every set of putts thereafter.

February Grip Special We are still running grip specials throughout the month. If you have not changed your grips within the last year, you probably need new grips. New grips make it easier to hold onto the club and creates less tension in your hands, arms and shoulders, thus enabling a player to make a more free and relaxed swing. Stop by the Pro Shop and we can inspect your clubs to determine if you need new grips. POST | GOLF

Ask 'The Rule Guy'! Q: My ball came to rest in bounds right next to a white OB stake. The stake interfered with the stance for my intended stroke. What are my options to play that stroke without penalty?

Mr. Guy Beale PNCC member and CGA Rules Official

A: You may not remove the stake or simply push it out of your way. If you do so, and then make a stroke, you would incur the general penalty (2 strokes in stroke play, loss of hole in match play). However, you may fairly take your intended stance, even if that results in the OB stake being pushed to the side by your foot or leg. There would be no penalty for this.

Golf Course Rules There are a few rules that need to be followed that are important to the condition of the course and enjoyment of the game. As golfers and members of PNCC, it is your responsibility to follow these rules. Here is a list of the most commonly broken: When it is Cart Path Only, motorized carts must remain on the cart path at ALL times. No exceptions

Slower groups should allow faster groups to play through if the slower group has open holes ahead. Pull carts are not allowed on tees, greens, collars or go between the greens and greenside bunkers. Pull carts must be kept at least 10 yards/30 feet from greens and tees. Only 2 people shall ride in a golf cart.

Players using a Handicap Flag must stay on path around tee boxes, stay at least 10 yards/30 feet from bunkers, waste areas and water hazards and stay at least 30 feet from all greens.

Please remember to inform the Pro Shop of any breach of these rules or any other Club Rule pertaining to gol

Repairing Ball Marks & Filling Divots Please remember our pace of play time is 4 hrs and 12 minutes for 18 As a member and a golfer, we have certain responsibilities that can help preserve the course for all that follow. One example of caring for the course is to repair your ball marks – the depression made when your ball hits the green. When an individual repairs his or her ball marks, the result is a better conditioned golf course. All golfers are responsible for repairing their marks, no matter what level of play, and it only takes a few seconds. Every player should fill in their divots in the fairway. This time of year when the grass is dormant is a time that is really important to fill in your divots. When the grass begins to grow, the grass will fill in the sanded divots and create a smoother more consistent surface. POST | GOLF

Here are some general rules of thumb for golfers on how to correctly repair a ball mark. 1. Use a pronged ball mark repair tool or tee. 2. Insert at the edges of the mark – not the middle of the depression. 3. Bring the edges together, trying not to tear the grass, and then loosen the underlying soil so that the turf is able to root easily. 4. Smooth the surface with a club or foot. You’re done when it’s a surface you would putt over. PAGE 24

Freezing Court Information

During this time of the year the weather makes it difficult for our tennis courts. When the temperatures dip below 32 degrees for several hours “clay courts” with sub irrigation can and will freeze. When a court freezes it is difficult to determine how long the court will be unplayable. At times the courts could dry within a couple of hours and other times it might takes days for the “freeze/thaw/dry” process to dry the court. Our staff will monitor and update the court condition lines (Website & Phone) once we know if the courts are playable or not. POST | COURT SPORTS
