EMPLOYEE HOLIDAY FUND On behalf of the McConnell Golf and Porters Neck Country Club family, we would like to extend a big thank you for your continued support. As in year’s past, we are asking you to join the holiday spirit and contribute to our Employee Holiday Fund. Contributing to the fund is a thoughtful way to show your appreciation to our heroes – our awesome staff members from the front of the house to the back of the house, and all those helping hands who work behind-the-scenes. While contributing to the fund is voluntary, adjustments to the fund received by November 30, 2022 will be reflected on your December statement. The contribution will then be distributed among our employees throughout all departments. McConnell Golf would like to take this opportunity to say ‘thank you’ for your support as we relaunched our online golf shop to the entire membership. We’ve seen tremendous success and are excited to see what the new year holds. As part of our thanks, McConnell Golf would like to extend an exclusive offer only available online and select golf shops across the portfolio. From November 7 – December 23, select products from Holston Hills, Porters Neck, Raleigh and The Reserve will be available at 15-25% off. Please visit www.mcconnellgolf.shop and look for the holiday banner. This includes deals on clubs, shoes and apparel - just in time for the holidays. We hope you and your loved ones have a happy and blessed holiday season. For questions or more information about the online golf shop, please contact Kira Aiken, Director of Online Sales, at kaiken@providencecc.com.

OUR HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE LETTERS TO SANTA TO SUPPORT MAKE-A-WISH® Since 2008, Macy's has been teaming up with Make-A-Wish® to spark joy and create hope with their holiday letter-writing campaign. For every letter Santa receives from all McConnell Golf properties, Macy's will donate up to $1 million to Make-A-Wish and grant wishes for children with critical illnesses. Keep an eye out for more info in our Weekly Happenings emails!

PNCC Receives Special Guest! Porters Neck CC was honored to have Robin Seigel join us for our Movie Under the Stars showing of 'Hocus Pocus'. Early in her career Robin worked on numerous music videos and independent films, before moving into television – most notably as Department Head of Makeup for nine seasons on the television show, FRIENDS.

Swing For the Stars, Results "The cat’s out of the bag!! We are still closing out some bookkeeping and gathering photos. (Get ready to keep seeing Swing For The Stars pop up in your social media newsfeed for AWHILE, y’all) but we wanted to make it official… the 2nd Annual Swing For The Stars tournament raised MORE THAN $60,0000 for Make-A-Wish Eastern North Carolina!"

Most recently, she worked with Kathy Najimy for the movie, 'Hocus Pocus 2'. Before the movie began, she spoke to the crowd and answered many questions from our juniors in attendance. While we expected the questions to pertain to the movie, we quickly learned that our PNCC juniors were more interested in Robin's thoughts on makeup, her process, etc. One junior even asked, 'What's your inspiration?'. Thank you, Robin for sharing your time and talent with us at PNCC!

COOKIE OF THE MONTH The Best Snickerdoodle Cookies

M cI nt os h R ec ipe B y B ru ce

This is my favorite cookie, soft and chewy. Growing up in the small town of Chico California my sister Lois would make these for dessert with fresh picked raspberries. What a wonderful time in my life...

Ingredients 1 Cup Unsalted Butter, softened 1½ Cups Sugar 2 Large Eggs 2 TSP Vanilla 2¾ Cup Flour 1½ TSP Cream of Tartar ½ TSP Baking Soda 1 TSP Salt Cinnamon Sugar Mixture § ¼ Cup Sugar 1½ Tablespoons Cinnamon

POST | CLUB NEWS

Directions

Preheat oven to 350F̊. In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar for 4-5 minutes until light and fluffy. Scrape the sides of the bowl and add the eggs and vanilla. Cream for 1-2 minutes longer. Stir in flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt, just until combined. In a small bowl, stir together sugar and cinnamon. If time allows, wrap the dough and let refrigerate for 20-30 minutes. Roll into small balls until round and smooth. Drop into the cinnamon-sugar mixture and coat well. Using a spoon, coat for a second time, ensuring the cookie balls are completely covered. To make flatter snickerdoodles, press down in the center of the ball before placing in the oven. This helps to keep them from puffing up in the middle. Place on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Bake for 9-11 minutes. Let cool for several minutes on baking sheet before removing from the pan.

Pro Shop Hours: 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM

Notes From the Pro By: Robert Loper PNCC Head Golf Professional Here are a couple of items that we see happen on the course that many people seem to not follow.

Upcoming Events November 1st: Course Renovation Begins November 24th: Pro Shop Closes at Noon December 6th: Mrs. Claus December 7th: MGA Tough Pin Day

90 Degree Cart Rule – When carts are allowed on the course, players should stay on the path until they are even with the first ball in the fairway. The players should then drive out straight out to the ball. Then carts should be driven in the fairway, not the rough, to the last ball in fairway or the exit sign. Then the cart should be driven straight over to cart path and up to green. When you are entering a bunker, try to enter on the low side of bunker, do not enter from the high or green side.Entering on the low side is much safer and players do not make as deep footprints that make it much easier to rake. Be mindful of where you stand while other players are hitting shots. Safety is the number one concern here while the other concern is being in the sight of the player hitting a shot. On the green, never stand close to the hole or on the extended line of the person putting on the green. On full shots, it’s usually best to stand to the front side of the person playing and slightly behind the ball. Push/pull carts should never be taken on top of a tee box, should never be any closer than 10 yards from a green. So that means they should never be on a collar or go between a greenside bunker and the green. Always remember to fill in your divots with sand, rake your bunker and repair ball marks. POST | GOLF

Practice Area Schedule Change With the time change, we will be adjusting the hours for the practice area. This includes the short game area and driving range. Monday – Closed Tuesday – Sunday – 7:30am – 5:00pm Please remember to rake the practice bunkers after you are done and repair ball marks on the practice greens. The short game tees are not meant for someone to drop a bucket of balls and hit to a green. This tears up the teeing area and really leaves a lot of ball marks on the greens that are not easily repaired. Please use the driving range for that type of practice. We have a one-of-a-kind short game area, let’s do our part to keep it nice. PAGE 21

GOLF PLAY DURING BUNKER RENOVATIONS We were also able to set-up special PNCC Member rates at the following local courses. Guests of PNCC members may have to pay the standard guest fee for each individual club. PNCC members must arrange times through the PNCC Golf Staff.

There have been many questions about the tee-time process and how we are going to manage play during the project. We consulted Wakefield and Raleigh Country Club who recently underwent a similar project. Based upon their recommendations, we have created the following guidelines. We will close 9 holes at a time during the renovation. The remaining nine holes will be open for PNCC member play only throughout the renovation.

Weekend Tee Times Weekend tee times will be set-up similar to the weekdays with 18-hole play blocked in the mornings and then the afternoon opening for 9-hole play starting at noon. Weekend tee time requests may be made on the tee sheet, it will be set up just like an event. This is a bit different than originally announced. The request will need to have the preferred day, time

Weekday Afternoon Tee Times After 12 noon, the tee-times will be available as normal for 9-hole play. A member can play 18 holes if the tee sheet allows. Please check with the Pro Shop on the day of play. The booking process will remain the same as it currently is during the week, starting at 6:30 am.

Members will be restricted to one of the weekend days to allow as many members as possible to play. Saturday we will concentrate on 18-hole play requests in the morning, but Sunday we will most likely adjust to accommodate more of the 9-hole requests. Once the tee sheet has been updated with requests, any open spots will be allowed to book by Wednesday at 6:30 am.
