GENERAL MANAGER’S MESSAGE
As we wrap up the first two months of 2024, we hope this year has started as beneficial for you as it has been for us here at the club Here are some highlights that have helped start this year with strong and fun happenings to look forward to.
January and February Recap
We’ve started this year with some fun from successful birthday nights in January and a sellout crowd in February, so we very much appreciate the support Forum has seen some positive events so far as well, so it’s exciting to see the participation in those events February brought a great Valentine's event, followed by an Italian night, which was a huge victory for the club, and the buzz that evening was contagious I got compliments that it “felt like the old Treyburn, where folks were having a great time enjoying one another’s company ” This is exactly why we do what we do to ensure you, our members, have enjoyable evenings celebrating being in such great company and enjoying wonderful food. Those events led up to a sold-out Sunday brunch event, so we’re thrilled that this is picking up more momentum as our membership continues to climb
Renovations and Projects
As I hope most have seen by now, we have modernized the President’s Lounge downstairs to continue our facelifts. We still have a few more things to come in that room to round it out, so stay tuned There has been much behind the scenes that myself and our Maintenance Director David have been working on, as we have five new pieces of kitchen equipment that arrived to help us continue to pump out some great food In our ballroom, our dance floor was recently renovated to bring that space back to life. As touched on last year, a new pool pump is being installed shortly to get us ready for the season at our pool Also, some exciting news this year is that we switched pool management companies and are very excited for this change, as our new company is very much aligned with our vision for the pool We did a light pool enhancement at our tennis courts, as well as fixing fences and giving the furniture a facelift. I know the hopes were to give our pickle ball courts some love, but it looks like that will hopefully be a project for 2025. Some more behind-the-scenes projects were constantly being worked on because, if you have met me, you know I care about details and really focus on enhancing the little things, so be on the lookout for slight touches here and there
Looking Forward
March is already shaping up to be a fantastic month for the club as we continue to push events from Forum to cooking classes, Easter festivities, and our golf operation to get into full swing April will also have even more golf events filling the calendar, but I know Ashley, our new Catering and Activities Director, is planning to execute some fun activities, from a Mediterranean night to also doing a sip and paint event I have challenged her to push the envelope this year and really think outside the box as we plan the rest of 2024 to ensure we have a bunch of wonderful events for you
As 2024 Unfolds
I hope this little excerpt has given you some optimism about the club and what’s happening at the moment We are all excited about the possibilities that a new year provides for our club, as we’re forecasting to have our best year in over a decade. May this year continue to shine down on you, your loved ones, and us as a community. We’re eager to see new accomplishments, shared achievements, and really a continued sense of family that drives Treyburn Country Club forward As your leaders here, we are cheerful about the bright outlook that lies ahead of us
In closing, I want to express our gratitude to all for your continued support of the club and the vision that I have for us I have met with many of you about how we can drive the needle, and I am always open to suggestions on how we can improve Your care, enthusiasm, and camaraderie make it a truly special place to be, especially as we’re embarking on uncharted waters this year. Cheers for now, and my office is always open if anyone cares to chat!

TREYBURN GOLF NEWS
Spring is just around the corner Color has started to appear throughout the landscape of our beautiful golf course The Treyburn Golf Shop has everything you need to stock up for the golf season We have just received all of our spring orders from Johnnie-O, Stitch, Harlestons, and Straight Down to have you looking great during your round For those looking to purchase new golf clubs and equipment, we have scheduled a long list of fitting experiences from companies such as Titleist, Srixon, Callaway, and Mizuno. Each company will have a representative on property during these events that will have you professionally fit into equipment designed for your game
Mark Snell and his staff are working hard to get the course in perfect shape for the first events of the season. Trees have been removed throughout the course to allow for better airflow and sunlight A pre-emergent spray has been applied to all of the fairways Green aerification is scheduled to take place on March 19th and 20th This is a necessary process that is performed to control organic matter, relieve soil compaction, stimulate root growth, and improve drainage
The TMGA invites you to join us for the TMGA Divot Party on March 26th! Each year, Treyburn members volunteer to go onto the course and fill divots with sand. Following the course maintenance, everyone who volunteers will enjoy burgers and hotdogs provided by the Treyburn Men’s Golf Association. This event goes a long way in helping Mark and his staff get the course prepared for the growing season
Our 2024 golf schedule is about to begin To start the year, we will be hosting our Glow Golf Tournament on March 8th Players will enjoy dinner before playing in a four-person captain’s choice throughout nine holes of glow golf. New to the events calendar this year is our Cabin Fever Tournament on March 16th This event is open to all membership classes and is a great way to meet new people! You may sign up for these events online on the Treyburn Full Golf Calendar We hope to see you all there!
If you or someone you know is new to the game of golf, the Treyburn Professional Staff is here to help! We offer individual lessons as well as group clinics throughout the year In addition to lessons, we will be offering Operation 36 programs for our ladies and juniors throughout the spring This program is designed to make the game fun, meet new friends, and advance at your own pace! Ask a Treyburn professional how you can sign up today!
The professional staff is here to make your experience memorable Please let us know if you need anything to improve your rounds with us! Thank you for your continued support of the Treyburn Golf Operation.

6 APRIL: BUTTER PECAN SANDIES (GLUTEN FREE)
Bruce McIntosh - Executive Chef at Country Club of Asheville
Ingredients
1 1/3 cups pecan halves
2/3 cup light brown sugar, packed 2/3 cup granulated sugar
8 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1/2 teaspoon table salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons Pure Vanilla Extract
3/4 teaspoon butter-rum flavor
1 teaspoon cider vinegar or white vinegar
1 large egg
2 cups King Arthur Gluten-Free Measure for Measure Flour
1 1/3 cups butterscotch chips
Directions:
1
2
Preheat the oven to 375°F Lightly grease (or line with parchment)
two baking sheets
Place the pecans in a single layer in a pan, and bake until they've darkened a bit and smell toasty, about 8 to 9 minutes. Set them aside to cool, then chop coarsely.
3
In a large bowl, combine the sugars, butter, shortening, salt, baking soda, vanilla, flavor, and vinegar, beating until smooth and creamy
4.
Beat in the egg, again, beating until smooth. Scrape the bottom and sides of the bowl with a spatula to make sure everything is thoroughly combined
5
6
Mix in the flour, then the chips and toasted nuts
If you're going to refrigerate the dough, cover the bowl, and refrigerate for about 4 to 5 hours; or overnight. Cookie dough refrigerated for 3 1/2 to 4 hours will spread moderately; chilled overnight, it will spread much less
1/3 cup granulated sugar, mixed with 1 to 1 1/4 teaspoons salt, for topping*
7
Mix the 1/3 cup sugar and salt for the coating, and put it in a bowl Use a spoon (or a tablespoon cookie scoop) to scoop 1 1/2" balls of dough into the sugar/salt mixture, rolling to coat. Then transfer to the prepared baking sheets, leaving 2" between them on all sides; they'll spread quite a bit Or, use a teaspoon cookie scoop to scoop 1 1/4" balls of dough
8.
Bake the cookies for 11 to 13 minutes - 11 minutes for smaller cookies, 13 for larger ones. Their edges will be chestnut brown and their tops a lighter golden brown. (For dough that's been refrigerated, add 30 seconds to 1 minute to those baking times ) Remove them from the oven, and cool on the pan until they're set enough to move without breaking. Repeat with the remaining dough.
9.
Store cookies, well wrapped, at room temperature for several days; freeze for longer storage
