CLUB NEWS Thank You! Nobody could have ever predicted that Covid 19 virus would take over the world in the manner in which it has. There are no manuals or instruction books to tell us what to do or how to do it in this type of situation. While the chaos is far from over, I am grateful for the support I have received from our members, from our staff and from the executive team at McConnell Golf.

I have seen more families playing golf together on the main golf course and on the 9 hole golf course. Spending quality time out in the fresh air has provided a great release. The tennis courts have remained packed. Curbside to go service has been a huge hit. It has given our culinary team a chance to think outside the box and come up with different nightly specials. Our staffs have crossed over departments to lend a hand to other departments. They have worked extremely hard to provide the best possible service during these unprecedented times.

Due to the Covid 19, the 2020 Rex Hospital Open has been cancelled. We look forward to hosting the 2021 Rex Hospital Open in May of next year. Until then let's take a look back on all the great memories from Rex 2019!

The membership has chosen to embrace what we could provide not what we could not provide. Who knows where this will end up when all it is said and done. The fear of the unknown is always scary. The membership has embraced the changes of what we are still able to offer. We will continue to update you as new details come available. While it is always disappointing to cancel or postpone member events, the safety and well-being of our members and our staff will continue to be our number one priority. All the best, be safe and thank you. Michael Thomas, Club Manager

Congratulations to Head Golf Professional Ryan Vance for being named Wakefield Plantation’s Employee of the Quarter. A native of Philadelphia, PA and PGM Graduate from Campbell University, Ryan has been a valuable member of the Wakefield team since January 2017. Thank you Ryan for all your efforts and for going above and beyond.

MEMBERSHIP Dear Members,

Remembering the Good Times!!

I hope this message finds you safe and healthy during this challenging time. I want to sincerely thank our supportive membership for staying with us while our company and country is in this medical and economic crisis. I have had many positive conversations of your appreciation and we look forward to getting through this pandemic with you. Thank you for your loyalty as it allows us to keep paying our employees and operating as best as we can.

Even though the Clubhouse and Fitness Center has been closed recently, we have been fortunate to still offer tennis, golf and to-go orders. We now have an even greater appreciation of the sports tennis and golf as there is little to do to get out of the house! I would also like to sincerely thank our amazing staff who are fighting in trenches at the club every day. Our Tennis and Golf Operations have never worked harder serving our members. Superintendent Todd Lawrence has both golf courses in fantastic shape including the overall grounds of the property. Club Manager Michael Thomas is doing every job there is from driving the picker on the practice facility to performing in work out videos found on our new McConnell Golf Fitness Page on Facebook! The culinary team continues to be creative even when the dining room is closed. I highly recommend you pick up one of our Butcher Shoppe On The Go dinner boxes which are fun to cook and delicious to enjoy at home. Chef Greg safely prepares each box with fresh products and I promise these are amazing! We are taking every precaution possible so you can still safely enjoy your membership during this challenging time but we look forward to getting through this together. Thank you for your commitment to the club and please do not hesitate to reach out if there is anything I can do to assist.

Please continue to practice social distancing and other practices that we have in place at the club until further notice. The golf staff is looking forward to getting past these difficult times and back to our normal operation. We appreciate working for a great membership that loves and supports The Country Club at Wakefield Plantation. It is easy to navigate, available for both Apple and Android, and keeps you logged in so there’s no need to reenter your password. If you haven’t yet, get yourself ready for summer and download the app from Google Play or the Apple App Store - right now! (Search “McConnell Golf”) Then, log in with your same credentials as the private website and stay in-the-know with club news as summer fills up our schedules.

In addition to the PGA TOUR’s schedule modifications, the Korn Ferry Tour recently announced that the Visit Knoxville Open, hosted by Holston Hills Country Club, is postponed with a date yet to be determined.

AT THE TURN

Working in hospitality means our employees love to serve and connect with people. In these times, our staff misses these interactions dearly. The support we've received from the membership however, has been overwhelming. We just wanted to say, "Thank you." Thank you for every round of golf. Every to-go order. Every email, comment, like and share. We could not do what we love to do without you, and if anything, these trying times underscore the value of community. We are so very proud to serve you, and to have built a network of clubs with your support that sustains us all in good times and bad.
