Spring is in the air, and you can feel the golf season coming!! For those who haven’'’t been onsite, we aerified greens March 11-12 We’ve gone earlier the last few years to have better conditions around “Masters” weekend A bit of a crapshoot due to the A1-A4 greens variety we have These grasses like warmer soil temperatures to take off and we ’ re hoping mother nature cooperates. The greens aren ’ t 100% due to multiple frost nights but should be great by the end of the month. We aerified tees April 15-16, and bulk fertilization with pre-emergent went out March 25th.
A reminder for those who take care of their own yards: forsythia is in bloom A good rule of thumb, is to apply your pre-emergent within a couple weeks of bloom You should get good control with your product We removed all dead trees along the course and ground the stumps These areas were seeded back after our Fert application Poanna is in full bloom this time of year We have made multiple applications on greens, tees, and fairways to aid in the control, but this is not a “removal” process It is a “keep at bay” process We also have plans moving forward to clean and paint the rain shelters this year The church is also on our plans to clean, and paint at a later date
Staffing is again an issue Our goal is to have the course perfect and knock out projects when we can As a reminder, we always need your help on the course Please repair your ball marks and one other and replace your divot If the divot fits step it down and you ’ re done If it breaks apart, replace what you can and sand the balance If using sand, drag back with your foot This will help when the fairway mowers come through and not tear up the reels and will give us a much better quality of cut We are also leaving bunker rakes in the traps When you finish raking yourself out, reach in with the rake 4-5 feet and drop the handle on the grass perpendicular to the edge, see the photo below This will save our rakes, and if a ball comes to rest on the rake head, your shot should not be interfered with from the bunker edge Thanks in advance for your help and we look forward to a great ‘24 season!!
Spring has sprung and the shedding season is in full bloom! My staff and I have been busy juggling between barn updates and preparing the horses for our busy season We will soon have new dirt in the smaller riding ring that will aid in comfort to our horses while being worked The stall bars and gates have a fresh coat of paint, the stalls have been scrubbed and fence boards and posts have been ordered for future repairs These small updates have had a huge impact on the look of the barn Other small improvements and repairs are underway and we hope you all enjoy the barn’s new “face lift”
Marina Bay field is now open to the horses to free graze We ask that you please be mindful of the amount of treats the horses receive Too many apples and carrots can be harmful and potentially can cause colic Also, please remember to stay out of the fields and off of the fences as this can be dangerous to the horses as well as yourselves
With camps quickly approaching, there will be an email sent out at the beginning of May containing information regarding lunch/dinner choices, shirt sizes, along with an allergy form, daily itineraries, and frequently asked questions. This email will be sent to the parents/grandparents of campers that are already signed up. If you have signed up for camp and did not receive an email, please call the barn to let me know and I will be happy to send/resend the email
In conclusion, we ask you to reserve ride times with a 48 hour notice We are anticipating this to be one of our best seasons yet! Our goal is to make sure everyone ’ s experience is the best it can be
Thank you your continued support!
KristinaWe’d love to see the beauty that you capture! Feel free to send pictures to my email barn@watersedgecountryclub.com

LemonCookieRecipe
Recipe by Patrick
Budniewski
When I first moved to Knoxville in September of 2016, I was introduced to the “best cookies ever,” as some members explained to me. They were from Ham & Goody’s Bakery in Knoxville. I have found this recipe to be a close substitute for when you can’t make it to the Bakery. But, for me, these cookies just scream “Spring in Knoxville.”
Ingredients
2 lemons
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 cup white granulated sugar
1 large egg
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon milk (if needed)
Directions
1.
2
3
4
5
Lemon Glaze:
6 teaspoons of the reserved lemon juice
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
Lemon Glaze Directions:
1
Stir together powdered sugar and lemon juice until fully combined Pull a fork or knife through the glaze The line you make should hold its shape for about 5 seconds If it's too thin, add a little more powdered sugar If it's too thick, add a little more lemon juice. Make additions in very, very small amounts, mixing well between each one, to test consistency.
2.
Use a butter knife or the back of a spoon to spread glaze onto each cookie. Let sit at room temperature until glaze is set.
Rinse lemons, dry, and roll firmly against the counter to help release juices. Zest lemons, being careful not to get into the pith. Reserve zest in a small bowl. Juice lemons and reserve juice in a second small bowl.
Preheat oven to 350F and line 2-3 large baking sheets with parchment paper
Cream butter with sugar for 1 minute until just combined, but don't beat too much air into the mixture
Add egg and 2 teaspoons of the lemon juice and mix until combined
In a clean bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, salt, and lemon zest Add dry ingredients to butter mixture in 4-5 additions, mixing until a few flour streaks remain.
If dough appears chalky or dry, mix in 1 teaspoon of milk. You want the dough to be moist but easy to work with - not too sticky.
7
6. Turn dough out onto a floured work surface and roll out to 1/4-inch thickness Use a 2-inch round cookie cutter to cut cookies Place onto prepared baking sheet spaced 2 inches apart Gather up remaining dough scraps, roll out again (flour surface again if needed) and cut out more cookies
8
Bake on center rack 9-11 minutes or until cookies are just set Don't wait for them to get too brown, or they will taste dry Let cool on pan 5 minutes, then transfer to cooling rack. Repeat with remaining baking sheets. Let cookies cool completely.
Chocolate Peanut Butter and Oat No-Bake Cookies (Gluten-Free)
Recipe
by Willaim Tew
This is a simple, yet delicious cookie. This is one of my favorite cookies growing up as a kid. My aunt would make these for me every year at Christmas time and it never seemed like Christmas until I got my cookies. It is still a cherished memory to me to this day. Ah, the simple pleasures of life.
Ingredients
1/4 cup butter
2 cups sugar
1/4 cup Hershey’s Cocoa
1/2 cup evaporated milk
3 cups your favorite oats (quick 1-Minute oats)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup peanut butter
Directions
