YOUR CLUB

I hope this note finds you well and ready for some cooler weather There seems to be more unwanted activity in the neighborhood and on the golf course than ever before Mondays in particular seem to be a problem Safety and damage to the golf course are our number one concern We are working with our staff, the police, the HOA and York Security

While we feel the majority of the issues are coming from outside of the membership, we wanted to send a friendly reminderforsomeofourClubrulesandpolicies.

GolfCourseandClubGrounds

We know as a community we are all in this together and the Wakefield Staff is proud to be able to serve its membership Since the pandemic started, we have been accommodating more rounds of golf than ever before We havemanydayswithcloseto200rounds,whichisstaggeringfromanygolfperspective.Inefforttosatisfythese

excitingdemandsandwhilemaintainingallsafetystandardsandprocedures,weneedyoursupportandadherencetoourClubrulesandpolicies.

Simply stated, if you are not playing golf with a legitimate tee time, then you should not be on the course. No personal motorized carts, no walking, nojogging, nodogwalking, nobikeriding, nofishing, noskateboardsetc

On Monday's the course and practice facilities are closed completely This is now, more important than ever, especially given the amount of play throughout the other 6 days of the week McConnell Golf intentionally accepts very few outside outings, as the course is for our members We use this day for total course maintenance which includes treating many of the surfaces with chemicals and fertilizers Again, SAFETY is a huge concern andwe'retryingtoprotecteveryone.Pleasestaycompletelyoffthegolfcourseandpracticefacilitieswhenthecourseisclosed.

NEW PROGRAMS!

MAHJONG COMING TO WAKEFIELD!!

MAHJ Series: Learn to Get Your Mahj ON!

Mahjong (also known as Mah Jongg, Maahj, or Mahj) originated in 19th century China, and has since spread the globe! Mahjong is a popular tile-based game, typically played with 4 players, in which each receives, discards and exchanges tiles in effort to be the first to match their “hand” to a specific pattern as seen in the Official National Mahj Jong League Playing Card. Mahj games are fastpaced, exciting, and require equal amounts of skill and good luck!

MAHJ Club 1 Lesson: (Thursday PM class - 6:00pm-8:00pm)

This is a beginner’s class, designed for first time players, new to the game. We will teach the tiles, the 2023 National Mahj Jong League Card & how to play the game. This class is a true beginner class and cannot accommodate advanced levels of play instruction.

MAHJ Club 2 Lesson: (Friday AM class - 10:00am-12:00pm)

This is a beginner’s class, BUT it is designed for both first time players, and those who have had limited exposure to the game (perhaps taken only one or 2 lessons, played once or twice, or have not played in a long time). We will review the tiles, the 2022 National Mahj Jong League Card & focus on how to play the game.

Club 1 Lesson - Thursday, November 2nd I 6:00pm-8:00pm

Club 2 Lesson - Friday, November 3rd I 10:00am-12:00pm

Location: Sports Club - Game Room I Ages: Adults Only

Fee: $65 per person per lesson

*Please RSVP no later than October 19th

We are exciting to be working with Mahj In The City! Ashley & Leigh will be joining us for a two session workshop to teach you all that you need to know about this exciting game! They will bring all supplies, but if you have your own, you are welcomed to bring it!

Our goal is to hold Mahjong on Thursday evenings from 6-8pm in the game room after the lessons are complete, based on participation and interest! We hope to see you there and if you have any questions please let Natalie know

TENNIS TIME

Over the past two months there has been a lot of noteworthy action around the courts For me, I could not be more proud of this program and how it continues to grow. From jam packed camps, the launch of pickle and putt, men’s summer trip, having 116 players in our pickleball league, to a 3.0 Southern Championship, our tennis and pickleball programscontinuetobeknownassomeofthebestintheTriangle.

It is well known in the area that each season the Wakefield tennis teams are always in contention for a city championship. This past spring and now going into the fall, one team has reached new heights in USTA league competition. Ashley Walton’s 3.0 spring team continues to have a season to remember. I say continues because we are now heading into the fall and this spring team is still competing. After an incredible run at the State Championships, this team flew down to Auburn, Alabama to compete in the Southern Tournament After three days and6matcheswithaskeletoncrew,theWakefieldladiesstoodatopofthepodiumasQueensoftheSouth Withthis incredibleaccomplishment, thestoryisstillnotover AsChampionsoftheSouth, theteamwillnowheadtothe NationalChampionshipheldinSanDiego,CaliforniaonOctober26th.Thisisanamazingexperiencefortheseladies.TheClub,membersandstaff aresoproudofthisgroupandwewillbecheeringthemonastheycompeteforaNationalChampionship!

Those that know me, know that I love the fall Football is back, the weather is perfect and it is absolutely the best time of year to get out on the courts.Overthenextfewmonths,tennisandpickleballwillhaveseveralfunsocialsandofferingsforalllevelsofplay.OurlastPickleandPuttwill take place on September 9th and then we will role straight into the fall pickleball league season. For tennis players, the weekend of September 22nd is the McConnell Golf Ladies Tennis Weekend at the Country Club of Asheville All players 30 and above are invited to join in on this trip to thebeautifulNCmountainsrightastheleavesarestartingtochange Forjuniortennisplayers, ourlastUSTAtournamentoftheyearwilltakeplace theweekendofOctober21st.Thisagreatopportunityforourplayerstocompeteagainstsomeofthebestfromthecomfortoftheirhomecourts.

The weather will be cooling off soon but the action around our courts will remain red hot as we head into the fall If you are new to tennis or pickleballwewouldlovetomeetyouandhelpgetyouinvolvedinourprograms Wetrulyhaveofferingsforeveryoneinthefamilyandmembers that are happy to welcome new players into their groups There is no better time to get out on the courts than the fall months of September and October!

Well…I’ve been here for a little over 3 months and what an amazing 90+ days it has been! I have tried to meet as many of you as possible and I’m sure there are many more to meet Myself and the staff strive to continue all the good things Adam implemented while he was here as well as implementing a few of our own

One thing we are constantly working on is improving the level of service we offer. Some of you may have noticed the staff is much more resent on the golf course We are doing this to ensure you are having the best experience possible We are not just checking pace of play! We are there for anything you may need to retrieve a lost club or range finder, offering an ice-cold towel on the really hot days, or just to make sure you are having a good time. So, please do not hesitate to ask for assistance That’s why we are out there “riding around”

Recently, we have mentioned to a number of members and guests to please adhere to the dress code in regards to untucked shirttails and hats worn backwards. We understand these conversations can be awkward, but please understand your club is very highly respected in this area and we want to uphold the high standards that are present at Wakefield as well as other McConnell Golf properties So, in the future, please help us by speaking to your guests prior to their arrival to ensure they understand our high standards

With the fall season around the corner, the golf schedule will ramp up again with a number of tournaments to close out the year. In September, we are scheduled to host our Bob Bidwell Senior Member-Guest, our final Couples Golf, and the Men’s, Ladies, and Senior Club Championships In October, we will be hosting the annual We Care Tournament, the “Spackler”, our Fall Member-Members, and a Glow Golf Couples Night tournament Please contact the golf shop if you have any questions about any of these events or please contact me at rbrooks@ccwakefieldplantation.com with any questions.

As always, your feedback or ideas are always welcome We cannot address a situation or consider a new idea if we don’t know about them So, please never hesitate to talk to us about anything you are concerned about or feel we need to know about

We look forward to seeing you at the club!
