Libraries
MCCS Okinawa operates six Marine Corps libraries on island, plus one at Camp Fuji, Japan and one at Camp Mujuk, South Korea, all of which offer full library services. Once registered at any MCCS Library, patrons will have access to all MCB Camp Butler libraries. All locations offer FREE Wi-Fi, computers, iPads and GoPros for checkout, as well as complimentary printing up to 10 pages. The libraries offer professional military reading titles, popular periodicals and DVD, CD, video game and audio book titles for professional, recreational and educational purposes. Items that are not available at MCCS libraries can be
obtained from other USMC libraries and other service libraries. Arrival time varies based on the lending library’s location. Each library has special programs and events offered throughout the year. The Camp Foster Library’s Art Connections event displays local artists’ work in a variety of media. Library events for adults include language courses, crafts, 3D-modeling classes, coding classes and presentations as well as special holiday celebrations. The libraries also offer a wide range of programming geared toward younger library users including weekly Lapsit (ages 2 years and younger), Tales for Tots (ages 2-3), Preschool Storytimes, Family Storytimes and teen events. To encourage both avid readers and readers that need more motivation to keep the pages turning, the libraries offer the annual Summer Reading Program which regularly attracts in excess of 3,000 participants including adults. The library’s online catalog and electronic resources can be accessed through home computers, smartphones and tablets at any time. Electronic resources include language courses through Mango Languages; digital magazines via the Libby app; FREE online courses (non-college credit) via Universal Class; scholarly texts and research articles found in the EBSCO and Gale databases; and tutor. com for children of active-duty service members. Furthermore, books on the Commandant of the Marine Corps Professional Reading List are available online through the Navy MWR Digital Library, NKO and Overdrive e-books (in addition to the copies in the physical collection). To obtain access, information and passwords, or to just take advantage of all the FREE programs and services MCCS Libraries have to offer, please visit any MCCS Okinawa Library.
