Message from The director Brrrr, the weather is perfect! While you may be feeling a little chill when you step outside, just remember that our Yuma weather is nothing short of spectacular during this time of year. You’ll witness, if you have not already, longer lines at the popular stores, fuller parking lots, traffic, lots of RV’s, and quite a few vehicles whose license plates indicate that the driver hails from Saskatchewan.

during this time frame because they people are no longer hiding indoors. The city hosts a 5K run series, there are outdoor family movies, outdoor jazz concerts, breakfast/brunch at the Garden Café, farmers markets, and more.

While you might hear me complain about longer lines and traffic delays, I truly do appreciate this season in Yuma. There is no better time to enjoy outdoor activities, and the city of Yuma hosts a lot of events

Holidayblues There is a change in the temperature (I wish I could say a chill in the air, but we are in Yuma) and excitement in the air. The holidays are upon us once again. For many this time of year is filled with anticipation, time spent with loved ones, gifts, and sharing; good friends, good food and family get-togethers, parties, and fun. For others it is a time of sadness, a time where expectations are not being met, a time that can’t be spent with loved ones due to distance, or a time of remembering losses from some previous point in your life. Making any change is difficult. Whether it is changing eating habits or starting a workout routine, you need to stay committed and determined. That is why MCCS Health and Fitness is here, to offer ways to keep you motivated to reach your goals. Eating healthy can be easy with a plan and goals. Making half of your plate fruits and veggies is a great goal to work on that will offer your body much of its vitamins and minerals. Learning proper portion control can allow you to enjoy all foods in your meal planning without cutting out anything. Decreasing empty calorie intake can help save hundreds of calories. Just by cutting out one 32 oz soda, you can save over 400 calories. To learn more about healthy eating, contact your Health Promotion Coordinator at 269-6642. Physical fitness can get easier if it becomes part of a daily routine. Fitness can be defined as many things

– not just structured exercise. You don’t have to go to a gym to be fit. Ride a bike to work, walk after dinner with your family, try a new sport or exercise class. As long as you are moving, you are burning calories and that helps with weight loss. Cardiovascular exercise works the major muscle groups but primarily it works your heart and lungs to allow you to move more, move faster and move easier. Strength training helps build lean muscle mass. Want more information on physical fitness? Contact your Fitness Team at the Station Gym at 269-2727. If you are looking to improve your health, your body fat percentage or just want to make a change, we hope to make you a part of the Biggest Loser Challenge.
