LEED Certified THE INNS OF THE CORPS Marine lodging facilities are addressing environmental and ecological concerns by employing design, technology, stewardship, and process improvements across all facilities. The new South Mesa Lodge is the first of these facilities to be certified in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), and has attained a silver certification. We have embarked on a mission to refurbish all existing lodging facilities according to our new GREEN standards including better recycling, water conservancy, linen re-use, and energy efficient lighting programs. Going forward all new Inns of the Corps will be built to LEED Silver Certification. Two of these are the Lejeune Inn/Camp Lejeune, NC, which will include an additional 50 new rooms; and 102 new rooms at the Miramar Inn/MCAS Miramar, CA.

Save Energy AND Money! COMPACT FLUORESCENT BULBS use about 1/5th the energy an incandescent light bulb does and produces the same amount of light.

• CFLs also generate about 70% less heat so they are safer to use. • CFLs use 80% less energy and last up to 10 times longer than standard bulbs. • 1 CFL bulb can prevent more than 400 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions over its lifetime. • CFLs can also save an estimated $30-$40 in energy costs over the bulb’s lifetime.

Change the World; Start with Energy Star! ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy helping us all save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices.

Results are already adding up. Americans, with the help of ENERGY STAR, saved enough energy in 2009 alone to avoid greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those from 30 million cars — all while saving nearly $17 billion on their utility bills. Replacing household appliances with ones that have earned the ENERGY STAR label will significantly reduce your energy bills and help the environment!
