Interiors stylist and collector, Tim Neve has just opened his first retail space in Newcastle. Situated in the suburb of Islington, by Tim’s account he is now one of about a dozen specialist second-hand dealers within a few blocks, creating a unique shopping precinct.

“Newcastle has definitely been bitten by the vintage bug,” he says. “It’s hugely popular for everything from weddings to interiors – and this area is now a real destination for that style.” Known for his interior design creations for national magazines and local businesses, Neve’s next big project is the release of his first international book in 2015, a hardcover publication with Murdoch Books. Until then, the pop up shop gives a taste of his quirky aesthetic, mixing rustic, old-school, religious and nautical pieces all handpicked by Tim himself. Out-oftowners don’t fear, you can shop online for vintage treasures, with delivery Australia-wide. “I wanted to create an old-fashioned, general store kind of feeling,” Neve explains. “You’re greeted by a traditional shopfront with bright green doors, and enter over a classic black and white lino floor. The original pressed tin ceiling in the space is another highlight that dictated the style.” The shop itself is one of a collection in the well-known building on the corner of Beaumont Street and Maitland Road that operated as Herbert’s Picture Theatre in the early half of last century. Tim found it amusing to discover the space he has transformed was once the Candy Bar, which would have offered popcorn through a servery in the back wall of the space. timneve.com
