Owner Russell Beard has certainly done his due diligence as far as roasting is concerned. Before opening Reuben Hills, Beard owned and managed The Source in Mosman, one of the best places to get coffee on Sydney’s north shore. Beard has travelled as far as El Salvador, Honduras, Panama, Colombia and Costa Rica to source his distinctive coffees, often beans that are hard to find elsewhere, particularly in Australia. Having recently returned from a sourcing trip to Ethiopia, head roaster Nic is now evolving new concepts and is happy to share these at weekly cupping/tasting sessions in Reuben Hills’ coffee lab. Spanning the length between Albion Street and Albion Way, Reuben Hills’ café is located on the ground floor with friendly and knowledgeable staff serving up mouth-watering all-day breakfast and Latino-inspired drinks and sweets. The menu draws inspiration from the team’s culinary exploits throughout South America and includes a variety of baleadas, a tortilla filled with an array of fillings. A sense of humour is clearly not in short supply here with dishes named after colourful local and global establishments, which one can only assume are as inspiring as the coffee. reubenhills.com.au
