Reflecting on the past year, I am proud to share the accomplishments of the McKinney Police Department. Over the last year, our city has experienced substantial growth, and our officers have risen to every challenge, maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and service. Our team has embraced these changes with steadfast commitment, solidifying our reputation as a premier law enforcement agency. Administration is made up of the Chief of Police, Assistant Chiefs, Internal Affairs, Public Information, Crime Awareness and Education, Planning and Compliance, Crime Analysis, the Mounted Unit, and the Financial Analyst.
The Professional Services Division is comprised of Training, Recruiting, School Resource Officers, and Neighborhood Patrol Officers.

In 2023, SROs received Active Attack and Solo Officer Response training.

In 2023, five Teen Academy camps for 125 teens were held during the summertime.

In 2023, officers in the Traffic Unit went through Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Refresher Training.
The K9 Unit is often requested by Patrol officers or Detectives to assist with calls.
K9 Officers and their police dogs train together regularly for continual development.
The Community Services Unit is comprised of both sworn and licensed clinicians who are involved in Crisis Intervention and Mental Health services. They serve as liaisons between community resources, medical facilities, and outreach programs for individuals in need, and actively participate in city initiatives addressing homelessness.
Members of the unit teach a 40 hour Crisis Intervention Training that is taught to all out of state laterals who attend SPOC.
5 department employees attended a CISM (Crisis Incident Stress Management) course in 2023 and became members of the peer support team.
The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) is comprised of criminal investigations, case management and the crime victim advocates.

The Radio Unit maintains over 1,000 portable and mobile radios. This includes radios for the Police Department, Fire Department, Airport and Parks and Recreation.
The Radio Unit tests Emergency Responder Communications Enhancement Systems that are in commercial buildings, hospitals and schools every year to ensure that first responder radios are able to transmit and receive transmissions while inside these structures.

ThePeerSupportTeamiscomprisedofofficers andprofessionalstaffwhoprovidesupportto theircolleagues.Membersoftheteamare trainedincriticalincidentstressmanagement Chaplainsprovidespiritualandemotional supporttoofficers,departmentstaff,andtheir families.Chaplainsofferguidanceduringtimes ofcrisis,conductmemorialservices,andare availableforcounseling.
The McKinney Citizens on Patrol organization is an active group of volunteers who provide support in a number of areas. The group provides patrol for vacation watch requests, assist with special events, make calls to persons with outstanding warrants and volunteer to assist with traffic control at city events.
The Police Explorer program is comprised of high school students who either live in or attend school in McKinney. They must meet all membership requirements and actively participate in the program. Explorers volunteer at various events hosted by the police department and have opportunities to compete with other Explorer programs in various competitions.
The McKinney Post 2200 Explorers team competed in the Grand Prairie MetroPlex Challenge and placed in all four events they competed in. The team finished with 4th place overall out of 21 teams.
In 2023, members of the Chief’s Advisory Council had the opportunity to utilize the virtual reality simulator that the Police Department recently received through a grant.
The Police Chief's Advisory Council is a diverse group of individuals who represent many segments of the community; as they serve in an advisory role to the Chief of Police on community related issues. Members that are selected live in the city and some serve in the community as pastors or ministers. Each council member is actively involved in the community and serves as a liaison between the Department and the community.
