You will learn how and why music and nursery rhymes can help your little one soothe into the day’s schedule and help build a strong body and mind network for learning. Plus, you’ll develop research-proven communication strategies with your child through listening activities, speaking “parentese,” and sign language. Bring home these same stress-free play and relaxation techniques from class and incorporate them into your daily routines.

With a special stringed instrument emphasis in the music from class, parents can bring home the violin, cello, and orchestra sounds to help their toddlers stay happy and engaged learners at home, too.

Erwin Park Improvements

Construction begins Spring/Summer 2025

Erwin Park is known for its open fields, photo backdrops, and primitive campsites. It is also a mountain biker’s playground, a favorite of many residents and visitors. It will soon be expanded and enhanced.

The 212-acre park features three picnic pavilions, two restroom facilities, 12 campfire sites, ten miles of mountain bike trails, a progressive mountain bike skills course, playgrounds, and acres of open space.

The planned improvements and enhancements will modernize the facilities and create more opportunities for the community to use the park. Once completed, the park will include a formalized entrance, resurfaced roads, signage, a viewing overlook, campsites with water and electricity, new restrooms, and a shower house, along with a concrete trail.

GRAND ENTRANCE

The main entry will be formalized and highlighted with signage and a monument. All roads will be resurfaced, and parking areas will be renovated and paved with concrete. Directional signage will be installed.

CAMPING ESSENTIALS

All campsites will have electric and water service. New restroom facilities will be built, including a shower house. All site furnishings and pavilions will be new.

NEW FEATURES

A viewing overlook will be built, and a concrete trail around the northern loop will be laid. Additional ADA improvements will be incorporated throughout the project.

IT’S MY MCKINNEY PROJECT

In 1996, voters approved a one-half cent sales tax to promote and preserve the quality of life in McKinney. Local shopping and dining enable MCDC to make a direct impact back into the community. MCDC has invested more than $225 million into the community to support quality of life projects. The "It’s My McKinney" icon lets you know that your local dining and shopping helped make this project a reality.

TAE KWON DO

This course combines discipline and physical fitness, empowering children to develop self-confidence, coordination, and respect while learning essential self-defense techniques. Uniforms are not required until the first belt exam.

REGISTRATION & POLICIES

FACILITIES

All facility participants are expected to follow the rules of the facilities. Specialty areas of the facilities (example: fitness center and the pools) have posted signs stating special rules specific to that area. Disregard or abuse of facility rules may result in removal by staff or police from the facility for a designated length of time or permanently.

CLASS FEES

Resident/Non-Resident Fees

McKinney residents make significant contributions to the operation of this agency through the payment of property taxes. These contributions are above the fees that they also pay for programs and services offered by the Parks and Recreation Department. In recognition of this contribution, McKinney residents qualify for the “Resident” rate for all programs. Those who live outside the boundaries of the City of McKinney qualify for the “Non-Resident” price.

Proof of Residency

You must provide proof of residency the first time you register in order to receive the “Resident” rate. Once you are in our system, you will not need to prove residency again unless your address changes. The only acceptable forms of proof include a valid driver’s license or state identification card or a current electric, gas, water or trash bill that shows your address. Resident rates are only available to those who live within the city limits of McKinney.

CHANGES/CANCELLATIONS

• Programs are sometimes canceled or altered due to low registration, changes in staff or facility availability.

• Fees paid by credit cards will be refunded back to the credit card.

Refunds are not issued for any program costing $9 or less. Programs costing $10 or more will be refunded if the activity is sold out and the vacancy can be filled from the waitlist. If the vacancy cannot be filled a refund will not be issued.

If a program is canceled by the McKinney Senior Recreation Center or Senior Pool a full refund will be issued.
