Feathers: The musical poems of Woody Guthrie, bird songs, and the naturally occurring sounds in nature help babies develop an early appreciation and accelerated aptitude for language, movement, and music through the foundations of this class

Do-Si-Do: Dance the Charleston, the Tango, and the Cha-Cha and learn why dancing with your baby helps develop vital learning skills from head to toe We will play various baby-appropriate instruments and dance with fun props!

Residents and visitors in McKinney can choose their own adventure as they navigate the city’s Wilson Creek Trail and its immense amenities.

NATIONAL RECOGNITION

McKinney's Wilson Creek Trail has just been added to the prestigious National Trails System . Whether you prefer to walk around the beautiful waters of Towne Lake or stroll through the shaded canopy of trees at Bonnie Wenk Park, the 10-mile trail system provides access to playgrounds, disc golf courses and an outdoor fitness court . It also connects to various local parks, ponds, natural areas and sports fields

COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS

To meet resident demand for outdoor adventure and activities, the McKinney Parks Foundation is building about four miles of nature trails that will be added to the Wilson Creek Trail system . The Wilson Creek Trail will eventually extend underneath U .S 380 to connect with the trails in Painted Tree and Erwin Park, adding dozens of miles to the trail system . Other key connections include building bridges and trails underneath Eldorado Parkway and eventually going underneath State Highway 5 to connect trails to Lavon Lake .

COMMITMENT TO CLEAN

With funding assistance from the McKinney Community Development Corporation, the city has acquired a new trail sweeper to keep trails in tip-top shape. This vehicle will maintain more than 80 miles of the city’s trails and help Parks Maintenance crews clear debris following major weather events.

Residents and visitors alike will be happy to know that the city continues to focus its resources on expanding and improving this system throughout the community to unite people and places in unique ways.

Introduce your child to martial arts with our engaging and dynamic Tae Kwon Do class designed specifically for kids . This course combines discipline and physical fitness, empowering children to develop self-confidence, coordination, and respect while learning essential self-defense techniques Uniforms are not required until the first belt exam .

Courts of McKinney opens its new indoor tennis center. Residents and visitors can participate in tennis or pickleball matches, lessons, or tournaments year round at the newly expanded complex.

The Courts of McKinney has 22 outdoor courts, six indoor courts, 4 dedicated pickleball courts, a pro shop, and a clubhouse . Visitors to the complex can enjoy amenities like online court reservations, flexible court reservations, equipment rentals, adult and youth lessons, tennis leagues, and camps .

The 55,000 sq . ft indoor center delivers six courts, an exercise room, training rooms, administrative offices, locker rooms, and a viewing mezzanine on the second floor . The new state-of-the-art facility helps meet the growing demand of residents and visitors to the area while providing an exceptional daily experience for passionate local players .

FACILITIES

All facility participants are expected to follow the rules of the facilities . Specialty areas of the facilities (example: fitness center and the pools) have posted signs stating special rules specific to that area . Disregard or abuse of facility rules may result in removal by staff or police from the facility for a designated length of time or permanently .

CLASS FEES

Resident/Non-Resident Fees

McKinney residents make significant contributions to the operation of this agency through the payment of property taxes . These contributions are above the fees that they also pay for programs and services offered by the Parks and Recreation Department . In recognition of this contribution, McKinney residents qualify for the “Resident” rate for all programs Those who live outside the boundaries of the City of McKinney qualify for the “Non-Resident” price .

Proof of Residency

You must provide proof of residency the first time you register in order to receive the “Resident” rate . Once you are in our system, you will not need to prove residency again unless your address changes . The only acceptable forms of proof include a valid driver’s license or state identification card or a current electric, gas, water or trash bill that shows your address . Resident rates are only available to those who live within the city limits of McKinney .

CHANGES/CANCELLATIONS

• Programs are sometimes canceled or altered due to low registration, changes in staff or facility availability .

• If a program has been canceled or altered, we will work with you to transfer your registration to another program of your choice .

REFUNDS

• Full refunds will be issued for any program canceled by the Parks and Recreation Department .

• Participants may request refunds for classes up to three business days before the program’s first meeting or practice .

• Refunds for classes under $8 will not be issued .

• Refunds for trips and contractual workshops will only be issued if the spot can be filled from the waiting list .

A $5 administration fee will be charged against refunds for cancellations, including those due to medical problems, to cover clerical and administrative costs . There are no administrative fees charged when a program is canceled by the Parks and Recreation Department .

• Fees paid by credit cards will be refunded back to the credit card

• Refund processing may take up to three weeks .

WAITING LISTS

Waiting lists are automatically created when there are more registrations for a program than space . Your receipt will indicate if you are registered for a program or have been placed on the waiting list .

WARNING OF RISK

Recreational activities/programs are intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental and emotional resources of each participant . Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice, conditioning and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity/ program . Understandably, not all hazards and dangers can be foreseen . Depending on the particular activity, participants must understand that certain risks, dangers and injuries due to inclement weather, slipping, falling, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, horseplay, unsportsmanlike conduct, premises defects, inadequate or defective equipment, inadequate supervision, instruction or officiating and all other circumstances inherent to indoor and outdoor recreational activities/programs exist . In this regard, it must be recognized that it is impossible for the City of McKinney to guarantee absolute safety .

YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS

Youth Benefit Fund

A Youth Recreation Benefit Fund is a fee assistance program for McKinney Parks and Recreation Department classes based on a financial need . This program is open only to McKinney residents who qualify for their school district’s free or reduced lunch program .
