Since no one on our Editorial Staff was able to decide, and since it is out of the question to save the material for less inspired days, if that's how it is, we will summarize. The digital press is starting a development in France, new "leafable" magazines, new apps, new kiosks, an increasingly diversified offering, with enticing multimedia content. Considering the success of this press in the States, we are betting on the French conversion, everything takes longer here than it does elsewhere, but we bet that once a few barriers are breached (and everything not related to our collective unconscious), it will take hold. Obviously, we intend to contribute to its success. With springtime, design news will see the blossoming of a number of new concepts and products that will make you want to revolutionize your interior, or even move, and in the following 170 pages we will take stock of them and there is plenty enough, therefore no point in talking more about that for the moment. Which brings us to the transformations we are making to your magazine. McommeMaison needed a section dedicated to Ar t, now it has one. Considering the success of the "designer portraits" section, we have chosen, in the same vein, to bring you creations from painters, sculptors, and photographers, with each issue containing portraits of well-known artists and a selection of four talents poised to leave a mark in the future. Happy reading!

Paris Bruno Romeda Exhibition - Artistic furniture/functional sculptures May 22 - September 14, 2013 Jean-Jacques Dutko is exhibiting twenty pieces of furniture created by artist and sculptor Bruno Romeda (chairs, tables, console tables, lamps...). Born in Italy in 1933, the artist draws his inspiration from primitive geometric shapes: the circle, square, and triangle, which he works in the form of sculptures that seek to play with shadows thrown and referring to natural elements. Everything starts with a gathering of twigs, sticks, and bits of wood, all while testing the tension and balance of the form. Like hand-drawn fine lines, his sculptures are cast in bronze in his Italian studio in Brescia.

Sculpted bathtubs‌ Today's bathtubs are on display in the middle of the bathroom, the space for wellbeing in your habitat. Standalone models are coming back with a vengeance, competing with other models in more studied designs. The bathtubs of past decades, with their uniform oval shape, set into a space which they are an extension of, are giving way to genuine works of art. The standalone bathtub from Vandabaths combines a minimalist, contemporary design with the traditional lines of the past.
Composed of volcanic rock, it is an elegant, hand-finished object. From Antonio Lupi, gleaming materials paired with rounded, worked curves create plays of light that reflect the attention to detail, the importance given to this new object. The Solidea bathtub, designed like a sculpture chiseled from a monolithic stone block, plays on its form: its rectangular base rises up to become a gentle oval on its exterior curve.

Sensuality drives the design of these bathtubs. Their soft feel is combined with a captivating look through the play of light and simple curves, inviting you to get away for a while.

To luxuriate in the moment‌ The art of the bath is the art of savoring a moment of pleasure, the art of cutting yourself away from the world of thoughts in order to immerse yourself in the world of senses, to give back the impressions of your body. Unlike bathtubs with their edges overflowing with objects inciting you to take action, take control of your hygiene, or your appearance, or any other urgent task of the day, the latest bathtubs have clean edges, often thin edges where only a caressing
hand can find a perch. The only invitation this new furniture sends out is to immerse come yourself in its soothing water. Duravit's Darling New collection is adorned with soft pine facades, with lively graining. The illuminated filigree edge is capped with a thin ceramic lip. The trapezoidal shape of their Paiova collection is aimed at increasing the comfort of your bath time. Only a headrest adorns the edge of this bathtub designed for the ritual of well-being.

New materials in the service of wel If, in the past, these moments of pleasure were reserved for the upper crust, today the art of the bath is accessible to all. The new materials used, combining natural stone powder and acrylic resin provide strength, impeccable hygiene, and infinite creative possibilities. Himacs has come up with a new structure, dedicated to richness: the bathing area is extended by a chaise longue, and lets you take advantage of the warmth of the water and the gentle atmosphere of the bathroom, which takes on the feel of a spa.

The true nature of the bath‌ Their curves, while evoking objects of the past, do not take on a baroque esthetic for all that. Their beauty is not only in their appearance, but also in sensuality and well-being. It becomes essential again, natural, in all its simplicity. The rounded curves, evoking the warmth of a maternal, original water, are simplified to the extreme. Undulating, they are an invitation to reconcile purity and sensuality. They seem to whisper that savoring a moment of tactile and olfactory pleasure is essential. The edges follow the movement
of the water, calm waves that guide you toward peaceful thoughts. Nothing draws your attention away from sensual pleasure, thus encouraging meditation. White, clear, the design of these new bathtubs expresses a simple beauty. The Lipsi standalone bathtub, presented by masalledebain.com, radiating whiteness and simplicity, seems to be an image of purity. Dedicated to helping us find ourselves, bathtubs are adorned with the natural. The Oze by Perene, in bleached oak combines very simple lines with raw, natural materials.

An essential bath…
MCOMMEMAISON INTERACTIVE - No. 9
Bathtubs are no longer timid, in order to liberate a space, allowing it to indulge in other activities. Their use has been rehabilitated as essential in the heart of the bathroom, they are placed in the foreground. You enter the bathing space to take a bath there. And this bath has the feel of a thalassotherapy session. Kristalia's designers have envisioned a bathtub on the cutting edge of technology, which combines the comfort of a recliner, with the pleasures of a bath and Jacuzzi.

Art and technology in the service of the now‌ Everything in the surroundings draws your attention to the bathtub, devoted to our wellbeing, to the moment of pleasure we get ready to experience when we open the bathroom door. Everything has its own place. Nothing in the room guides you to any other activity besides the moment of the bath. The surrounding decor is just an extension of this. Your body immersed in the water, eyes resting on simple walls, with a uniform covering in neutral, natural colors, inviting you to clear your mind, slow your racing thoughts, and enjoy pure relaxation. Only nature, light, sensuality, and simplicity are allowed to enter this new meditative
space. The shapes are geometric, simple, and their color tones are beige, brown, or harmonies of blue, white. Gleaming mirrors or lamp crystals invite you to contemplate the play of the light. Generous greenery makes you imagine you are walking in a paradise of the senses. The rugs, soft and textured, bring to mind the first contact with the ground under your feet. Smooth wood and raw materials, simple objects, everything here calls for calm. Technology is devoted solely to well-being, offering bathing moments worthy of a genuine spa, at home. Evocative forms…
MCOMMEMAISON INTERACTIVE - No. 9
Models with curved lines, standing alone, recall the bathtubs of yesteryear, of an earlier time before the birth of design, dedicated to ergonomics. Today, designers call upon dreams, myth, ritual...Forms are simple but spellbinding. The standalone bathtub by Porto Venere takes on the air of a soft, protective nest. The fluid, fine arabesques of the bathtubs in the Falpes collection Hydropolis bring to mind those of a falsely fragile bowl, filled with a precious water.

A soothing recollection… The bathtub from the Pear Cut collection by B’bath, with its curved, rounded forms, seems devoted to mothering its occupants. Their model, inspired by an ancient tub, offers a bath worthy of a princely family. In harmony with
these new objects of well-being, the accessories seem borrowed from a gentle past. They combine a use charged with memory and a design updated with clean forms. Their function is to make order reign around the bathtub, in this calm, regenerating place, they help to store the few essential objects of the art of bathing. A ladder leaning against a wall can hold towels or be transformed into a shelving unit. Sponges and towels are stored in a bucket or a jar. A tray makes it easier to transport the scented oils. The new style tubs, with their retro accessories, propose a sort of back to basics, momentary rejection of modernity and the constant race for progress, a slowing of time, taking a moment for yourself.

The new bath time… Near the bathtub, armchairs remind you that the rest and relaxation should last after you get out of the water, to gently emerge from the meditation and return to active life with serenity. A new item in these spaces, the library has a place alongside these new bathtubs, where you spend a little "me" time full of relaxation and pleasure. Before and after your bath, the bathroom is now a place where you stay…

A bit of whimsy in the shapes‌ The child's bedroom is no longer just functional. It is also designer. Designers are now offering ingenious ideas to reconcile design and practicality. The furniture designed for children's rooms opts for whimsy, with rounded shapes and lines tinged with softness. From the bed to the dresser, the nightstand and bookcase, you can have a genuine artistic staging. Designers also draw inspiration from nature to design playful furniture, with that childish side the little ones like so much.
A bookcase in the shape of a tree with multiple storage spaces, a bed installed a little wood cabin... Furniture for children today is the stuff dreams are made of. And to remain faithful to this creative spirit, these pieces are accompanied by cheerful, shimmering colours. White, bonbon pink, lime green, pastel blue‌ You can truly create a whole universe for the kids. And considering their fragility, manufacturers are increasingly using more environmentally-friendly paints.

Designing a child's bedroom‌
When you design a child's bedroom, you should always keep in mind that it is their space and privacy. Therefore they should be able to easily feel at home there. It's the place where they will sleep, study, play, or have friends visit for sleepovers. So you should give them a space that can reconcile all thse activities. And since children grow up so quickly, their needs also change over time. The trick is to have a modular design, which lets you limit expenses at the same time. MCOMMEMAISON INTERACTIVE - No. 9

Golden rules for design‌ Our child's bedroom is a bit of the room we would have wanted at their age.Currently, anything is possible, or almost. You should not simply follow the trends, but just respect a few rules when designing this room. Paint is the first step. You should already know which colours have an impact on mood and sleep. It's recommended to favor bright, soft, nonaggressive tones. Pastel blue, green, bright pink, or vanilla yellow are excellent choices. You can also get the kids involved and let them decorate their walls themselves.
Then, when choosing furniture, always opt for the functional, while remembering to optimize the available space: a bed equipped with storage drawers, wall-mounted shelves to save floor space, etc. As for the study corner, the ideal solution is to make it far from the bed in order to help the child concentrate. Of course, for small spaces, the bed/desk combination is still the most interesting solution. As for rugs and curtains, the essential thing is to choose materials that are easy to clean.

Simplicity remains timeless‌ If you had to change the decorations or furniture every time your kid got bigger, your wallet would take a big hit. That's why it is important to choose furniture with simple, clean lines.

Modern or retro, every style is on the table. Luckily, creators today are combining simplicity and design. Beds, nightstands, and shelving units fill their primary functions first and foremost. After that, everything is in the choice of materials. Wood is still in style and is always appreciated for its modularity and its sturdiness. Manufacturers today are turning more toward wood derived from sustainablymanaged forests. This material still has a future ahead of it. And for a touch of elegance, you can always choose varnished furniture. Colours can then be chosen based on the style you are going for.
www.lesenfantsdudesign.com
Wood, so many advantages! We want furniture that is safe and environmentally friendly for the child's room, above all for their health. Solid wood, a completely natural material, meets this requirement. It's a wise choice when you consider that furniture made from plywood and particle board contain Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), which are often responsible for allergies. And for a nice colour, the ideal solution is to look for brands that use natural or solvent-free paint. MCOMMEMAISON INTERACTIVE - No. 9

Jean-Marc Gady was born in Paris in 1971. After graduating from the École Bleue in 1996, he is currently one of the emerging figures of French design. Indeed, he embodies a design that feeds on sense, sensuality, material, and magic. As a counterpoint to a period that tends to vulgarize design in style and where contemporaneousness struggles to get away from the conceptual, Jean-Marc Gady leans toward poetry, emotion, and the superb. Wonderfully manipulating the codes of luxury, object, and space, his field of action covers stage design, design, and interior architecture with such prestigious references as: Louis Vuitton, Baccarat, Guerlain, Moët & Chandon, De Beers, Dior, Chanel, Christofle… He began his career by creating furniture, lamps and accessories dedicated to the culinary arts for Ligne Roset and Liv’it. He then was the subject of several permanent calls from VIA (Valorisation de l’Innovation dans l’Ameublement Promoting Innovation in Furnishing) before joining Louis Vuitton, from 2002 to 2005, as artistic director for shop windows and event staging throughout the world, particularly in Asia.

Campana
The OCEAN COLLECTION from the Campana brothers, an unexpected evolution of the signature Sushi series, is based on blends of materials, echos of the Japanese maki rolls that the pair of Brazilian designers had imagined already in 2002, a time when they were looking for a way to create a padding while avoiding traditional techniques. These pieces include a SUSHI BUFFET and a SUSHI CABINET, a new variation of WALL and PENDANT MIRRORS, and four VITORIA REGIA STOOLS. Fernando explains it this way: ainsi : If we decided to use mirrors, it was because Humberto had started with these objects, that he framed with shells. Therefore we are getting back to our origins, now using materials, and taking advantage of our experience. For the exhibition at Carpenters Workshop Gallery, we wanted to create an artisitic installation in which mirrors are connected to other realities and become synonymous of different dimensions. In addition to WALL MIRRORS, we envisioned the PENDANT MIRRORS, which turn and move in a room, absorbing the space and reflecting what surrounds it." Humberto adds: "The SUSHI is what inspired us, with its chairs, couches, buffets, and more. We decided to frame our mirrors with felt, rubber matting, and EVA in different shades of green, blue, and white, to create an aquatic atmosphere – which is where the exhibition gets its name. The mirrors have a connection with the water, and we added curves, which are not without recalling the shape of the sushi. Our pieces are hand made, and therefore very rare. We try to bring the human into the manufacturing process, which is one of the features of Brazilian design."

Olivier Chabaud
MCOMMEMAISON INTERACTIVE - No. 9
A DPLG-qualified architect with dual training, in architecture and design from ENSCI – les Ateliers (Paris), he founded his own firm in 2008 after various collaborative projects. Looking at the lines of Olivier Chabaud's work, you are strucj by a perpetual search for meaning, lightness, and space. Creating a place, means offering it the respiration of space. Not blocking views, freeing up traffic, lightening horizons. The creator analyzes, poses questions, takes his time to determine the most obvious solutions so that his creation appears as if it has always belonged to its context. And yet...as simple and clean as his architecture or design projects appear, almost as discreet as the man can be, something is going on. All the subtlety of his creative approach is attached to this progressive "entry into the land of familiar faces." Projects don't give themselves over straight away, they reveal themselves in the light of all the answers given to the questions asked by the architect/ designer. In 2013, he is launching a furniture company called Médris in partnership with an Italian manufacturer and a French cabinetmaker, and he will serve as its overall artistic director. While function drives Olivier Chabaud's whole creative approach, it is this perpetual questioning that is his primary tool. Jean-François Bellemère, designer and old friend has said about Olivier is that, "what characterizes him is that he asks every question possible, even those that you did not imagine, to achive the intuition on the truth of a place, to go beyond appearances." Timid or reserved? In fact, Olivier Chabaud is stubbornly discreet. Visit the site: www.olivierchabaud.com MCOMMEMAISON INTERACTIVE - No. 9

One is an architect, the other a cabinetmaker. In 2011, the Taupin brothers founded ONM, combined their complementary skills to design and develope a line of furniture made from natural solid wood. Frédéric creates the designs and Grégoire produces the prototypes in their shop on the outskirts of Paris. Partnered with a major manufacturer - located in France - they produce their models in series in the aim of having a high end finish quality. The wood used, French oak or ash, is carefully employed. Starting from the cut-up tree trunk, they trim, surface, plane, then miter cut this solid wood. No unneccessary supports, no metal parts, the design is focused on a simplem effective structure of the object by using an angular, modular geometry. Triangulation makes it possible to save material and give consistency to the line. "We try to make the object and what it has to support stand up with a minimum of material. Our formal work is prosaic, without affected research, without curves. it detatches itself from fashion to serve solid wood, this material that embodies persistence over time. In early 2012, they opened a showroom in the heart of Paris and launched online sales of their line of furnityre composed of 2 tables, 1 bench, 1 chair, 2 stools, and 3 coffee tables.

By Eglantine Bremond
1975
The year of the conclusion In 1975, the 30 year postwar boom came to an end, as did the ascension of design. Over the past ten years, design had become a socio-economic phenomenon without precedent in the history of design. After a dazzling breakthrough in the 1960s, its democratization brought it into most interiors in the 1970s. An update on this movement and its impact on the evolution of design. Amazing and tumultuous beginnings Starting from their release, the creations of designers were met with detractors. The aim, focused on the functional to the detriment of the beautiful, sensorial, and emotional, as well as the high prices of designer furniture despite the use of cheap materials, stirred controversy. But the new interest in the practical enticed businesses and wealthy individuals, fond of these new objects that promised a better, more simple life where time is freed of tasks devoted to managing everyday materials. The new marketing toy‌ In 1971, design spread out. Businesses latched onto this mass movement and endlessly produced new objects, each more ergonomic and useful than the last. The design trend then served to renew fully equipped households to go out and buy. Design then became a marketing phenomenon, a symbol of mass consumption, already denounced in the 70s and disparaged today. MCOMMEMAISON INTERACTIVE - No. 9
Interior design in 1975 Everyday functional Some took advantage of the design movement's democratisation to procure an ultra-functional home for themselves. Linoleum and carpet, cheap and easy to maintain, besieged floors everywhere. Plastic and formica adorned light, practical furniture. Stools, tables, food processors, modular couches and shelving units composed an interior that could be shaped to fit one's desires. The esthetic trends of the 60s endured: orange and flowers maintained a place in the home. Floral wallpaper, practical, and symbolic of 70s era design, provided a touch of cheer.
75
Wanting to get away Some people resisted the movement, or fell victim to it only to eventually return to more personal values. The taste for exoticism and antique furniture expanded rapidly in 1973. Furniture made of wood, rattan, and Asian furniture harmonized within homes advocating human warmth and exoticism. The taste for the antique still endures. Decoration magazines of the time, if they did not deal with design, staged upholstered armchairs, wooden pedestal tables, and fringe lamps. The art deco style also came back with a vengeance in those days when design was abandoned. In 1975, the CitÊ de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine (Architecture and Heritage Center) opened the "Art Deco, the style made in France" exhibition, tracing the history of this movment that brought together French decoration.

inspired architects. 1975 was the year the Pierre Cardin design house, named the "Bubble Palace" was launched. This 1200 m2 villa, designed and built by Antti Lovag was inspired by ancestral homes. Everything, in its construction, was oriented by the quest for beauty and sensuality. Pierre Cardin said that it is "the body of a woman." Built like a group of caves with connected, curved shapes adorned with portholes, its extremely innovative design is in line with the concerns of today's designers: linking the functional to the human. 1975 marked the end of the ascension of design within interiors. And, like the MLF today can be accused of having a negative impact on education, or even the May 1968 movement, by denouncing the former hippies who have become business executives, this movement enabled women to liberate themselves, employees to wonder, and design to be what it is today, an art of the whole object, and humanist.

Lost on the edge of Camargue Regional Nature Park, just two kilometers from deserted beaches, Le Mas de la Fouque is its own world surrounded by wild beauty. A hotel designed as a cabin, fully renovated and focused on the outside. This mythic location opened in the early 1980s near Saintes- Marie-de-la-Mer, now reborn under the impetus of its owner, producer GĂŠrard Louvin.

When lightness and serenity go hand in hand‌ A genuine link between inside and outside, sheer curtains come in a variety of effects of transparency, material, and coulour. Gifted with both an extreme fluidity and strong enough to pass any test, sheer curtains attract the eye and flatter the interior design with a range of tones: polar white or warm colours, striped or finely embroidered, the sheer curtain dresses windows with lightness and tint your interior with the colours of well-being. Available in large widths, resistant to light and easy to maintain, sheer
curtains bring to the foreground a multitude of advantages for your definition of comfort to reality. Now, sheer curtains are woven from 100% natural materials, (flax, cotton, hemp, etc.) to be a part of their surroundings with total harmony. No longer hesitating to take over patios, terraces, and pergolas, sheer curtains caress the outside space with softness by pirouetting at the whim of a slight breeze. Light, air, and summer temperatures round out this feeling of absolute serenity.

Shadows and natural light... Stamped with authenticity and character, the curtain highlights the purity of natural materials. Dressed in a simple esthetic, the curtains hang by windows, displaying daffodils, spring buds, and floral sketches...a veritable ode to nature! Inundated with floral patterns or plant prints, linen curtains spontaneously invite well-being into our inside spaces. Both sophisticated and tinged with the natural, contemporary curtains harmonize their gentle satiny reflections with the simplicity of exposed rough stones. It is a contrast of
materials and types that gives the fabric a timeless character. Alongside the wall draped in an immaculate white, the curtain promotes the breaking dawn that has just whispered in our ear. With alternating beige, cream, and white tones, subtly blending rustic and contemporary, the curtain affirms an irresistible fall bathed in soothing light.  HOUT
Joep van Lieshout was born in Ravenstein (Netherlands) in 1963. He lives and works in Rotterdam. He has degrees from the Rotterdam Academy of Modern Art and from Villa Arson in Nice. In the early 1980s, Joep van Lieshout became known for his sculptures in polyester, a material which very quickly became his signature. His work oscillates between art and design, with an assumed desire to be part of everyday life. In 1995, he founded Atelier Van Lieshout (AVL) in a monumental building at port of Rotterdam, in the Netherlands. Over the years, Atelier Van Lieshout gained an international reputation, producing works that were hybrids between sculpture, architecture, and design. AVL produces an art that exceeds the simple esthetic function and proposes works to be experimented with, such as machines, furniture, buildings... AVL proposes a remarkable production system that calls for the contribution of a wide range of specialists. It includes a multidisciplinary team composed of twenty people who come from different backgrounds: artists, architects, skilled craftsmen, finance experts, etc. The Atelier's production is the outcome of a close collaboration among these creative minds, within an environment that lacks a hierarchical system.Indeed, the Atelier works on the model of a business, but follows a collective logic.

Stage designer and visual artist Roberto Platé "framed" the Maison de l’Amérique Latine with a monumental installation on the Boulevard Saint-Germain and invites the visitor to literally pass through the mirrors of an exhibition he designed the scenery for himself: installations that fool the eye, models of scenery for the theater, opera, dance, and sometimes fashion. It is a journey enhanced with photographs, documents, films, and fifty works from the artist's collections, the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, and the Comédie Française. It is a rare exhibition, where we discover the trajectory of a life dedicated to art and spectacle.

George Condo
"George Condo admires European art but he is no less American!" Bernard MarcadĂŠ, art critic
George Condo emerged on the scene thirty years ago in New York, at the same time as Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring. What was Condo 's contribution to painting in those days? The new thing George Condo contributed, starting in the early 1980s was his constant referencing of art history. This profoundly distinguished him from most of the painters of his generation, particularly those you just mentioned. Unlike Jean-Michel Basquiat or Keith Haring, Condo did not have the relationship with the canvas of one who believes in political revolution through spontaneous action. No streams of paint or playing with accidents for him. In a less expressive manner, he led a reflection on forms with, as a focal point, the great European masters, with Pablo Picasso first and foremost. Among the canvases exhibited at Galerie Catherine Houard, In the brothel is also an explicit nod to the Demoiselles d'Avignon by using the same theme and composition. B.M.

In almost 10 years, since her last exhibition at Galerie Jean Fournier in 2004, Guillaume Lebelle has only shown her work rarely. In particular, there was her first personal exhibition at Galerie Christophe Gaillard in 2010 and the exhibition of her drawings for the Jean Fournier tribute in 2007 which took place at Montpellier's MusĂŠe Fabre. This withdrawal made it possible - over the past ten years - to explore different directions, certainly more freely, and all in an experimental mode. Creating abstract compositions, sometimes approaching cubism, and a figurative pictorial work inspired by the Flemish painters of the 14th-15th centuries in particular (forms and techniques). The technique for this painting and drawing is still in a spirit close to naive art and the pre-Raphaelites: use of oil usually in one layer (little glaze), and distancing from photographic or direct reality in order to avoid hyperrealism. Sticking to an interior world and remaining open to current art (waking state), Intervening on the substrate (paper, canvas) which, through its transformation is part of the work: cutting, folding, scraping, burning, mounting...scraping, burning, mounting...

A harmonious, dreamlike composition... By night, everything transforms. The setting sun marks the start of an time of rest or festivities...Twilight changes behavior and apprehension of the surroundings. The reduced field of vision is an invitation to slowness or closeness, and excited minds head off in search of banter and imagination...Outdoor lighting animates this dreamlike world, illuminating it as we see fit. Lanterns, spotlights, lighted objects, floodlights and wall-mounted lights bring the night to life, guide us in a reinvented space, coloured with mystery and contrasts. Almost alive, they seem to play in the middle of the night, gifted with their personality
and each one will light the outdoor space in their own special way. It's up to you to choose which one will go best with the plants and furniture of your patio or garden. For a festive atmosphere, they are essential, coloured and rivaling the flowers. For a Zen or theatrical atmosphere, they can be discreet, revealing only their light, as if radiating out of nowhere. To complete a filtered, romantic atmosphere, they can be set in stone walls. For a breath of playfulness in the dark, lighted balls play in the pool. To honor the beauty of the scene, designer creations can be placed in the middle of the garden...It's up to you to pick the ones that appeal to you.

Lights bring out the natural elements and walls of your home. Opt for light placements that create plays of light and sculptures as you see fit. The light will sparkle on the water, penetrate in stone, caress plants, or sculpt
wood. Shadows are also party of the composition. Architectural, they are developed by central lighting that will tint places with mystery. Light sifted by a wall or foliage will create light, soothing shadows.

An art of staging… Outdoor lighting, light sources in an omnipresent obscurity, shape the space to our liking: only what is illuminated is visible. Choosing lights for your yard or patio is therefore much more than a simple practical or esthetic question, it is an art of staging… Light can take center stage. Spectacular lights will be the center of attention and will catch everyone's eye. The location's staging will then be important: mass plantings of flowers, harmonious composition or simply, a bench that invites guests to lounge. Lights can respond to one another, like a living opera playing out in your yard, the halos of light create a clever composition. The arran-
gement of lights can be traditional but elegant; a pathway lined with lanterns, leading to the patio or to the front gate, showing guests how happy you are to have them over. Lamps can draw the space; a lighted circle surrounding a cozy tree or skirting plant areas. For a Zen atmosphere, a perfect symmetry of composition invites the eye to linger. A joyous, graphic arrangement: lights scattered as if by chance convey the spontaneity of the homeowners. Give in to your inspiration, dictated by your reflection or intuition, in order to create your world of the night: luminous, inhabited, alive.

Stylish or casual, the choice is yours... Stylish furniture for outdoor living, we all dream about it. This style, brilliantly combining elegance and sturdiness is hands down the best way to furnish your garden or patio, and take advantage of it. Deck chairs are now on a permanent design quest. The materials used are sometimes offbeat, like plastic, adjustable to suit your needs. With very simple, pure lines, you can also do big things.
Those who prefer a more casual style will opt for a blend of sturdy canvas and metal. Choose colorful fabrics to achieve a summery feel. And to switch to siesta mode, folding deck chairs, generally made of wood, with their suspended fabric lap, will never go out of fashion. Don't hesitate to change the colour of the lap, depending on the mood, for a trendy exterior.

Innovation, a sign of authenticity… More and more designers and creators are combining design with femininity. Clean,
but rounded lines, or gently printed patterns, inspired by flowers, yield a result that has an absolute estheticism. Colour choice is also essential. Turquoise, fuchsia, bright orange … The flashy tones take hold of all the outdoor furniture, from the ottomans to the armchairs. Another remarkable innovation, driftwood lends itself to experimentation that is unusual, to say the least. This material pairs very nicely with stainless steel, creating genuine works of art on the patio. It's enough to give some character to any type of space!

Falling for creations… No, it is not a figment of the imagination, nor is it an extraterrestrial.Hybrid furniture does not subscribe to any traditional design code, but clearly demonstrates that anything is possible when it comes to outdoor design and decoration. Driftwood combined with lacquered stainless steel, and topped with a Diamante carbon cushion makes it possible to create furniture that is as comfortable as in your living room. The deck… Unless you like getting out of the water and walking directly on the grass, a flat, smooth deck is a real source of comfort. Made of stone, wood, or composite laminates, your pool deck can be different shapes and colours (watch out for colours that are too light, which can be blinding). Above all, make sure to choose materials with anti-slip properties in order to prevent accidents. You have to think about the size of the deck. If it is just for walking around the pool, a one-meter wide deck is large enough.
If the deck will accomodate one or more deck chairs, it should be at least 2.5 meters wide. It can also constitute a genuine living area featuring a garden living room and maybe even an outdoor kitchen. Harmonise the style of the deck with the rest of your garden! Decks made of concrete or composites will give a modern, designer look to the décor. Made of wood or natural stone, they let you feel in symbiosis with the surrounding nature. A slate deck will create a neutral, refined décor…

Design, the natural way‌
Wood always gives a natural ambiance, which can be rustic or more modern depending on the style and shape of the slats and surfaces used. Very esthetic, a wooden deck
is sturdy and comfortable, and stays cool under your feet. The ideal solution is to go with a composite, splinter-free wood that is not harmed by water or sunlight.

134 Swimming pools: decks & coping, safety‌
Coping‌ All around the pool, the coping forms a little sidewalk enabling swimmers to walk along the pool, or to get out without injuring themselves if they don't use the ladder. When they are pitched toward the outside of the pool, the coping prevents outside pollution from running into the pool. By combining natural stone coping with a wooden deck, the stone will increase the brightness of the wood and create an exotic, trendy, or rustic ambiance depending on the design and the materials chosen.
Reconstituted stone is a truly environmentally-friendly material. It is made by crushing limestone and then mixing the resulting powder and granules with white cement. These natural stones form coping and pavers that adapt to any style of architecture, to create traditional or more contemporary atmospheres. Esthetic, tough, and anti-slip, they contribute to creating layouts with character.

Charm and relaxation…
MCOMMEMAISON INTERACTIVE - No. 9
Tile fans will choose glazed stoneware. Very resistant to wear and frost, it keeps wet feet from sliding. Its fine slate structure is pleasant under your feet and it is easy to maintain. For a deck that is always dry, there is a new simple anti-skid coating made of a mixture of resin and grit. By changing the colour of the grit, the final impression is different. So there is something for every style.

Securing access to your swimming pool is essential (and also the law). You have many options available to you for protecting your pool: shelters of different heights, shapes, and technologies, barriers, or shutters.

140 Swimming pools: decks & coping, safety‌
Which one to choose? A pool shelter protects the pool from bad weather and helps to warm the water. But above all, it prevents falls and drownings, particularly for children. Your choice should take into account a number of elements, such as the technology, materials, shelter type and its use. Buyers often prefer low shelters with angular shapes, because they are more economical and easily fit in any environment. A semi-sliding or telescopic system, motorised or not, lets you uncover the pool quickly. The most commonly used materials are polycarbonate for the windows and aluminium for the structure.
For large pools (over 100 m²) and tall shelters (over 1.80 m), consider applying for a building permit. It is also possible to go with flexible fences and barriers, which must comply with French standard NF P 90-306. Installed all the way around the pool, they prevent it from being accessed. An alternative solution consists of installing a shutter, which prevents drownings in the event of a fall. More economical than a shelter, they also avoid having to change the look of your garden.

Swimming with peace of mind…
MCOMMEMAISON INTERACTIVE - No. 9
Once your swimming area is set up with all of these elements in mind, you can swim with confidence and peace of mind. To add a bit of greenery and colour, why not plant a few flowering shrubs a reasonable distance from the pool? They will brighten up this relaxation area and give it a pleasant scent.

They dared... Portable radiators! I-RADIUM offers an innovative, unusual interpretation of wood, always used as a heating fuel. In the exclusive I-Radium portable heaters, however, firewood is transformed through infrared technology into a heating element, by re-invoking the heightened functionality of the material in a product that is a one of a kind, able to achieve an optimal balance between practicality and beauty, between high tech and respect for the environment. www.i-radium.com
Baleine Rouge! For this collection, Baleine Rouge has frozen nature in a particular state. Between memories of summer and yearning for spring. You can sense the framework of a perfect season, the shadow of a thistle, the silhouette of a butterfly, the outline of an anemone or daffodil, the memory of a tulip... In this transparency arises the body of the plant, which floats on a dye, a curtain bodies in suspense ‌ www.baleinerouge.com

The Madeleines Collection! Who can forget the tick tock of their grandmother's clock? The sound of the bell? The sound of the gears when, as children we would wind them up using the key from on top of the dining room buffet? Like Proust's madeleines, you can again hear the sounds of your childhood in these absolutely current mechanical clocks. The Madeleines collection of grandfather clocks was born of a meeting between two traditional worlds, clockmaking and artistic cabinetry, and the world of contemporary design. For generations, grandfather clocks marked the passage of time with a bare minimum of revision. In this tradition, all every clock is manufactured and assembled by hand, with all the passion and love of master clockmakers and cabinet makers in the factory in Besanรงon, France's clockmaking capital. Manufactured in France, by hand. www.ateliermarquis.com
The modular insect hotel! An insect hotel is a smart structure that helps and protects our garden helpers. In return, these insects help to pollinate plants and fight against predators. In the end, it's a gradual reintroduction of biodiversity into the garden, enabling an effective organic approach. Insect hotels are an alternative method for limiting or eliminating the use of pesticides, in order to help create a garden that is more respectful of the environment. The principle? Attracting so-called helper insects and benefit from their many virtues as pollinators and predators of harmful insects. For example, the green lacewing can eat up to 500 aphids a day, and ladybirds help to fight aphids, and solitary bees help to pollinate the garden. These models can be found in garden centres, farm stores, and home improvement centres.

Hypernuit Offices - Paris 18th Arrondissement by h2o architectes‌
Pictures: Julien Attard
The project fits into the ground floor of a building, behind a large shop window looking out onto the Rue Clignancourt. The office space to be fitted out has a single orientation, it has a bright volume with simple geometry and a raw treatment. The request was to create a stage offering five identical workstations sharing a meeting room and service areas.
MCOMMEMAISON INTERACTIVE - No. 9
h2o architectes has developed a layout for these offices by creating an interior occupied landscape formed by a set of crates. These volumes, with varying shapes and functions, constitute the inhabitable space for each person working in these offices. Their layout and combination makes it possible to create furniture, offices, partitions, moulding, cabinets, etc.
MCOMMEMAISON INTERACTIVE - No. 9

150 Crazy about design... Hypernuit is a firm employing different people working as artistic directors, graphic artist, and communications agents. The singular layout had to reflect the dynamic, innovative spirit that drives each person working in the firm within a serene, contemporary space. The additional requests were the desire to have a maximum of storage space, the creation of hanger mouldings for displaying photos, as well as a limited construction time.
MCOMMEMAISON INTERACTIVE - No. 9
It was all built in the shop in order to save time on-site. The unitary treatment of the floor and furniture provides a studied, serene atmosphere. This space is brought to life by the white colour situated inside the crates and by the books and objects placed there by the occupants. Each workstation faces the open, shared space, while enjoying a clean space whose degree of privacy can be modulated according to the full/empty volumes.

Polished Concrete Long used as a structural element, concrete had been hidden in our walls. Its decorative potential is now being recognized.
MCOMMEMAISON INTERACTIVE - No. 9
Anything is possible! Plays of form, colour effects, it fits in every surrounding and no room in the house is left out. Poured or coated floors can also be used in utility rooms and can be used to make work surfaces, sinks, and showers. Polished, tinted, or dyed, concrete can now be applied to all interior or exterior surfaces (kitchen work surfaces, bathrooms, etc.). Clay, a raw material par excellence brought to us by nature‌ One of the main manufacturers, Mercadier, has a new line of PURE ARGILE (PURE CLAY) decorative products. Produced in a hundred year old quarry in the south of France, this extra-fine clay is the essential component in the new line, thus ruling out any synthetic resins or unnatural chemical compounds. This way, the clay's natural properties are maintained and with no impact on health or the environment. Natural and esthetic at the same time, PURE ARGILE comes in two types of finishes: Tintable Fine, an extra fine clay with a soft, velvety look, and Tintable Earth, with a thicker grain for a mineral look.

Polished Concrete
MCOMMEMAISON INTERACTIVE - No. 9
Dyed, polished concrete… Another manufacturer, Grace, and its Solacir® Interiors Coulis, a designer polished concrete that provides an esthetic dimension to all interior spaces. A real design element, this durable, very high quality material is very easy to maintain: a rinse with water is all it takes to clean the floor and clean up after everyday tasks. One unique aspect is that it can be applied to all types of subfloors: new or old concrete pads and to replace an existing floor (tile, carpet, linoleum, etc.). Applied in layers from 6 to 10 millimeters thick, it lets you get the desired, necessary floor level. It is applied very easily because polished concrete is self-leveling, its fluidity allows it to be placed almost all by itself as it is poured. Manpower time for installation is reduced since it only takes 3 days to apply. The Solacir® Interiors Coulis offers a new range of original colours. These colours are named after the heavenly bodies in our galaxy (Moon, Sun, Venus, Mars…) and make it possible to respond to every desire homeowners may have: warm or cool colours, pastels or bright tones… What a pleasure it is to get away out into space and imagine and choose the colour of your floor!
