Just after the year-end lists and excesses of all kinds (common decency prevents us from listing them all, unfor tunately!), Januar y is par excellence, the month for plans and dreams, but we must still find a direction, what tone to give 2014, have you thought about it? Well, for us, and for you at the same time, this new year will be radiant, we will define with one attitude, one style, one word: Sprezzatura… It's an untranslatable word borrowed from Italian, which the French imper fec tly refer to as "casual elegance", this word illustrates, for those who can understand it, the natural "grace" that radiates in gestures, words, and actions. Those who are filled with it, "flee as far as possible, from the affectation, the obvious effort that conceals art." This word therefore refers to the ease that shows that what we have done, said, and got ten, came about easily and almost without thinking. It is the elegance that is expressed in an attitude, an interior, a work of art, beautiful and refined in all its glory, whose mounting and wires are invisible, so much as the mastery of the work is accomplished. So we would like wish you a new year as beautiful as this word, in its sounds and its deeper meaning:a year of grace, ease and elegance, in your lives and in your interiors. The sweetness of S to start with, then the power of the P, followed by the liveliness of the double Z, to finish with an A of pleasure and satisfaction ... Amen!

04 Agenda...

To keep your eye on ! Paris Grandes Serres du Jardin des Plantes until February 2, 2014 the Art Workshops France Foundation and the National Museum of Natural History are presenting Noces Végétales (Plant Weddings), the first Parisian exhibition by designer Tzuri Gueta.Using a natural material derived from silicon, combined with fabrics to create organically-inspired works, Tzuri Gueta has sublimated a protected and controlled nature, by proposing a journey into the heart of greenhouses both real and dreamed, full of symbols. The plant world is discovered in another way, through the eyes of the creator, passed under the specter of modernity, imagination, creative infatuation.. www.fondationateliersdart.org

Louis Vuitton Maison 101 avenue des Champs Elysées until January 2014 THE GENEALOGY OF LOUIS VUITTON CITY BAGS STAGED BY SOLINE D’ABOVILLE. To celebrate the release of the book "Louis Vuitton City Bags: A Natural History," the designer/stage designer, Soline d'Aboville has brought technology to the service of poetry. The installation is inspired by the editorial focus of the book: the history of Louis Vuitton bags is told in it through archival documents, illustrations, and diagrams similar to those in naturalist books.Soline d'Aboville takes this occasion to revisit the principle of the family tree on which hang 9 bags, made using 3D printing, are transformed into video-mapping device evoking their (bio) diversity, while the background hints at their origins and the range through a back projection. Sublime sensuality‌ Comfort and elegance are the watchwords of bathroom trends for 2014. With increasingly sophisticated technology, everyone can now enjoy beauty and perfect functionality inside their home. Pleasant ergonomics are stylishly adorned, with grace and ease. From Capia, the use of ultra-elaborate synthetic concrete makes it possible to build a vanity with clean lines, whose slightly curved shape prevents water from splashing. A wide range of colors makes it possible to combine ease with aesthetics. The latest decorating and design trends for bathroom have fittings and decorations inspired by nature, inviting you to soak up water

from a source, even inside the bathroom. From Collin Arredo, a basin made from natural river stone creates the dĂŠcor and carries us right to the water's edge. And if the ultimate well-being, was just that; enjoying benefits of technology while savoring the essential delights of nature? From Hansgrohe, the shower is transformed into a relaxing waterfall. The Rainstream jet reproduces the soothing effects of a natural water massage. Light integrated in the shower support restores the magic play of the sunlight that makes the water droplets sparkle.

Excellence of nature ... If you think that a natural environment, wild, is governed by the chaos of spontaneity without order, you just have to look at the precision with which a tiny snowflake is carved, drawn, it will convince you otherwise... The perfect beauty and functionality reigns in the creation of life. The human order has differed thus far from that of nature, because it is more structured and streamlined. Technological evolution, as well as the creativity of designers, makes the ultimate natural perfection available, where everything is guided by the wonderful chance of life. New trendy bathrooms are fashioned to changing circumstances and needs. The "Exelen" range by Antonio Lupi, imagined by designers Ga-

brielle and Oscar Buratti, offers bathrooms to suit all spaces and all imaginations. Thanks to a new technology, which enables an invisible connection between the various elements, without additional masonry work or special supports, all elements of the bathroom blend together in a customized harmony. Sinks, tubs, showers, horizontal or vertical cabinets, lights, mirrors and glass supports compose a unique scenario, adapted to the space and use of the place, for a perfect destiny... From Himacs, the thermoformable properties of the latest generation acrylic stone can create a space for water that is light, open, similar to a natural basin formed by water erosion.

A look that flows from the source... The ultimate pleasure, in a bathroom, is provided by the water... It's a source of energy and sensory pleasure that's both powerful and impalpable, water comes in all its shades in these new bathrooms. Its undulating motion guides the curves of work surfaces and furniture, the voluptuousness of its continuous flow is found in the forms and spaces that seem to have no beginning and no end. Its constructive complementarity with other natural elements is perfectly represented in these bathrooms, where wood, stone and ceramic sing a melodious tune in unison. The whole creates an elegant simplicity,

where everything has its place, the harmony of a place that seems shaped by benevolent chance. Thus, in this place, where everything flows naturally, the mind can soothe itself, guided by what the body experiences: a precious moment of back to basics and sensuality. From Schmidt, water becomes the central element of the space, thanks to an innovative island development. The bodies of water take up the center of the room. From Porcelanosa, the main use of porcelain, modeled from earth; clay, water and heat, enables creative amenities, where water points are sublimated, like works of art.

In your home or... around the world. Today, anything is possible. Wall coverings now benefit from the latest technology and are adorned with all kinds of materials, while still remaining easy to install and maintain. You won't need to climb a stone wall to get the feeling of living in a palace in Tuscany or call a carpenter to sample the delights of Asia. Stones, panels, or fabrics blend magically in these new interiors, galvanized by so much creativity. The "Arezzo" collection by Guittet offers a decorative covering with a marbled appearance that will transport you directly to an Italian dĂŠcor. The marbled effects give relief and elegance to

the lounge, which evokes the romantic, sunny streets of Italy. Beyond textures, new paint colors alone, designed with as much intuition and precision as a work of art, are an invitation to travel. The "Atmosphere Soft Print" collection of paints from Theodore, designed by AurĂŠlie Hemar, recalls the subtle nuances of Japanese origami. Cool colors, with blues dominating, marry perfectly with a bright red. They will take you to a refined, modern, and sleek Japan. Crossing the threshold of your living room, you'll be invited to enjoy the simple present moment.

Decorative and... artistic painting Are decoration and art two separate domains? This is a new frontier that new techniques can eliminate… Transform your walls into real works of art, with the tones and textures of ultra-elaborate paintings. From Tollens, the new collection, developed with the famous Pantone brand of professional color charts offers a palette of 100 new colors. Colors previously reserved for fashion and graphic arts can now join your home décor. The pure tones, both powerful and subtle, bring a graphic and harmonious dimension to your walls. Your artistic sensibility will be attracted by these nuances, clearing the field for your creativity. Four color harmonies are proposed. The

third harmony offers contemporary affinities around blue… on large frames or directly on the walls, you can compose a graphic décor through the combination of Daphne blue and bright white. The living room becomes a contemporary work of art. And, because a work of art requires a medium, and a finish of the highest quality and precision, the "Sigmalys" range of paints from Sigma offers a sublayer with an impeccable finish, highly opaque, applicable onto slightly porous, lacquered, and varnished walls or woodwork. The nuances of their "Reflections" range, pastels featured in different, subtle harmonies, create, through the refinement of tones, an atmosphere straight out of our dreams.

Interior upheaval... Remember... the High Tech revolution, a revolutionary period where buildings are adorned with stairs, elevators or equipment usually reserved for the inside. The boundaries between exterior and interior were crossed by creative minds, who transformed surfaces and facades. And what if, for our great comfort, we played around with using stones and woodwork normally reserved for the front? Let's bring the great outdoors inside, into our home: natural, strong, and warm materials. Because now, that's possible, even easy, thanks to the creation of wall coverings that, far from being simple visual reproductions that only fool the eye, borrow the actual texture of natural materials, with a fine construction that gives them

great realism. From Arte International, the "Antiaris" wall coverings collection is designed with vinyl, inspired by a patchwork of natural bark cloth, combined with an ethnic non-woven wall covering printed with a refined velvet... Sensual, warm, and textured, walls are adorned with interior assets, multiple color tones, warm or designer, while displaying the sensory power of living materials. The "Verniland majestic" collection by FB Wood offers paneling in maritime pine from the Landes department of France. The broad width of the paneling, combined with their impeccable quality, without knots, will definitely give the look of a walk outside to your living room. The appearance remains smooth and the pastel color is soft, bright.

A Graduate of the Nantes Atlantique School of Design, in 2004 Gregory Jolly founded, UDS: Un, Des Sens Edition, a company based in BeaucouzĂŠ (Maine-et-Loire) and specializes in making ergonomic designer furniture. UDS Edition aims to combine the image of contemporary design with an ecodesign approach. "What inspires my creations and triggers the creative process is repeated contact with industry, discovering manufacturing and transformation processes." In this sense, it relies on a singleprocess architecture. Furniture can then be mass produced with fewer processing steps and thus little transformation energy. Added to this is a single material design for improved energy recovery. A warm material, wood is naturally inviting to work with. The Angersarea designer chose wood from French forests that are managed sustainably and PEFC certified, the mark of a responsible and sustainable approach. In addition, to manufacture its products, UDS Edition uses three companies in the Pays de la Loire region and one carpentry firm located in PoitouCharentes. A good reason to decorate your house using products made in France. And you won't need an instruction manual!Ease of installation is also an indisputable strong point. Zeynep Fadillioglu was born in Istanbul in 1955. She began a degree in information technology at the University of Sussex and earned her degree in computer programming and systems analysis at the Control Data Institute. In 1978, she chose a different path and enrolled in the Inchbald School of Design, to take courses in art history and design. Zeynep Fadillioglu grew up on the banks of the Bosphorus in Istanbul, a real cultural melting pot where the bells of the Armenian and Greek Orthodox churches mingle with those of the mosques. Her childhood memories are still a source of inspiration for her design work. Zeynep Fadillioglu has always been immersed in the world of design: her grandfather was a textile magnate and his house is filled with ceramics and porcelain from Sevres, Meissen or China, and FabergĂŠ eggs. She always designed spaces where Ottoman furniture was everywhere, then she started collecting them when she lived in London. She made a name for herself in the world of design when she created the interiors of several clubs and restaurants owned by her husband. She founded Zeynep Fadillioglu Design in 1995.The company's portfolio now includes 350 worldwide projects, including private homes, hotels, restaurants, clubs, offices, scenery and events. In 2010, she was nominated for the Aga Khan Architectural Award. Zeynep Fadillioglu also shares her passion for design with her students at Istanbul Bilgi University, where she has taught part-time in the Design Management and Culture Program since 1998. Zeynep Fadilliouglu Design launched its first collection of furniture at the Maison & Objet show in Paris. The collection consists of tables, coffee tables, and chairs, draws inspiration from everything Western and Eastern aesthetics have to offer. It pays tribute to the richness of the Ottoman civilization and produces work that is both authentic and universal. Visit the site: www.zfdesign.com MCOMMEMAISON INTERACTIVE - No. 13

1979

By Eglantine Bremond

High Tech, beyond the limits of space In 1979, the term "High Tech" appeared for the first time in the eyes of the general public, in a New Yorker cartoon showing a woman berating her husband for not being high-tech enough : "You're middle-, middle-, middle-tech. "Focus on the architectural movement, designed between hope and self-deprecation, which frees itself from the boundary between interior and exterior space. A better future... The High Tech movement glorifies technological advances, to make them the elements of architectural decoration. At a time when, initiated by Neil Armstrong's moon landing in 1969, scientific revolutions were in full swing, the integration of the constituent materials of technology in aesthetic creation reflects the faith in a better future, made possible by these new advances. It was in 1979, for example, that Sony invented the first Walkman and Apple launched what was essentially the first laptop.Technology allows people to live better, to create, develop, and build a world, imagined better.

MCOMMEMAISON INTERACTIVE - No. 13

A new use of space Far from being smooth and uniform, High Tech building facades are adorned with functional materials, interior components. The Pompidou Center, emblematic of the movement, shows off its ventilation system, theatrically, on one of its facades. Large circulation pipes put access to floors on the outside and are a signature of the building's industrial aesthetic. This distribution of architectural space is usually reserved for space-saving required by factories, rather than for the appearance of a museum. Metal and glass structures, previously little-used in public architecture, are the characteristic materials of this style. By eliminating the usual constraints of what must be inside or outside, the High Tech style allows

79

for a more functional distribution of space. Interiors, stripped of their usual components, remain open and spacious.

Elements "your parents might find insulting" Design critics Joan Kron and Suzanne Slesin, authors of the first book on High Tech, "High Tech: The Industrial Style and Source Book for The Home " (1978), wrote this iconic sentence. High Tech owes its creativity to crossing the boundaries, of space, but also social conventions. It is not "normal" to see pipes on the outside, and this dynamic of rebellion in the face of an organized past where everything has its place, is constitutive of the movement.Industrial objects are diverted from their primary function, sometimes pastiched, in order to be integrated into everyday life or architecture. Between reverence and irony, the expression of High Tech resembles that of a teenager who would position himself against an imposing father, everything technological. It opens the way to a new, creative horizon.

The Lofts The useful and the beautiful come together, space expands, to reveal everything. Thus, in the United States, in the wake of High Tech, the first lofts were built in old downtown industrial warehouses, cheap and unfrequented at the time. The lofts then originally had practical motivations, the rehabilitation of available space. In France, the lofts were subsequently built in city centers, and were expensive. They became emblematic of the spirit of restoring the past, positively detoured, with a modern and refined social class. While the technological dimension and the use of industrial materials such as pipes and ducts will not extend beyond the movement's emblematic buildings, the philosophical reach of High Tech, and in particular, crossing conceptual boundaries between interior and exterior, greatly influence modern architecture, leaning towards transparency. The use of metal and glass in particular in exterior facades make it possible to build ethereal constructions, as harmonious as they are anachronistic, like the Louvre Pyramid, for example. Within residences, walls are coming down, and the boundaries between rooms and their functions, are no longer essential. A field of possibilities is opening up.

Paved with good intentions... The yard, deck, or patio are a continuation of the house, so style of the ground must be in line with the building. In the case of an old property, the original materials are often in poor condition, and hard to replace because traditional techniques take a long time to build. Indeed, these materials require techniques that few craftsmen master and they are therefore expensive. However, today there are many modern and practical solutions that meet the desired antique look, and offer ease of installation and maintenance. Like this set of small pavers made of reconstituted stone that form a uniform surface, and look very much like the original paving stones around this Provencal style country house. The assembly of small paving stones

facilitates and ensures quick installation, it fits into the ground configuration and thus allows the dressing and creation of stairs, walkways and paths. Opposite is another example of a reconstituted stone construction, illustrating an environmentally-friendly, efficient and decorative high-quality solution. The reconstituted paving stone proves an ideal material for the construction of the home and living environment.Extracted and then crushed, the stone is next mixed with binders, before being molded. Reconciling innovation, sustainability and aesthetics, it has established itself as an attractive alternative (to wood, chipboard, etc..), insofar as it adds performance and respect for the environment.

Edging and pavers… In the case of a complex geological configuration in areas where it rains often and with large surface area to be built, a special surface is essential. Stardraine® is a red permeable asphalt made using naturally red gravel. It's ideal for waking around the house while keeping your feet dry; puddles just disappear. This draining material absorbs water. This asphalt comes in different colors, from red to light gray to dark gray. This type of surface can be used to combine other materials in order to create a décor, or simply to demarcate different living spaces. For decks, stones and paving combine aesthetics with durability, while creating unique and decorative spaces, spaces for living and sharing. Granite paving stones imported from Europe or China, often

used in roadways for their strength and ease of maintenance, offer good value for the money and make it possible to build large area landscape constructions. There is, however, a wide range of materials to choose from according to your taste, budget and climatic constraints: limestone, granite, porphyry, sandstone, basalt. Once the material has been selected, you need to choose between the different finishes offered for these products: bush-hammered, flamed, polished, sawn, sanded, cleaved blazed, chiseled, sandblasted, brushed, or natural, the selection is vast. Unless you opt for stone pebbles in natural color, yellow, white, red, black... it's up to you to see.

Landscape pathways... To design or build a patio, a swimming pool environment or a driveway, you can choose from pillars, wall stones, edging, and stepping stones, or even ornamental products, which will satisfy every taste and every desire. For a natural, discreet look, it's preferable to use stones of medium sizes and uneven shapes. For a more sophisticated style, the option chosen will be large regular, rectangular slabs.

To live happily... If you want your exterior to be perfect down to the smallest detail, you can play with fencing panels, they will be valuable for defining a dedicated space, such as

a sitting area, an outdoor living room, or just to protect yourself from the eyes of neighbors. All daring touches are permitted, you have the choice of materials and colors. There are also several possibilities with trellis panels, Cyprus has a great range with character that features items with various combinations of alternating wide and narrow blades. Since the objective is to create an atmosphere while preserving privacy and, of course, everything is made with suitable wood, cedar, retified ash and fir. A wide range of shapes and layouts, rounded, composite, graphics... pressure-treated, glaze finish, matte finish or effect finish, available in 15 colors.

Focus: Illuminated gardens ... Landscape lights, spotlights, wall lamps, lighted objects, the selection is vast, but the goal is clear: combining the functional with the aesthetic. The use of LEDs by designers and manufacturers has made it so you can now find rechargeable lights or lighted furniture on a fixed base, guaranteeing up to several hours of battery life. Lastly, to illuminate the garden, the easiest solution is to use solar lighting. If the installation of solar lighting is very simple, the effectiveness of this light is dependent on the weather, of course, so it is recommended to use it in addition to hardwired lighting. Pool with a view... The first element to consider, of course, is the location of the pool. The configuration of your lot, the view it offers, the level of privacy desired, all these features will determine your selection, and that's good because the possibilities and models are endless. For outdoor pools, they can be built both in-ground, above-ground, with coping or with a large deck, and all this is possible in a variety of materials, regardless of the budget for your project, a pool solution is available. The outdoor, above-ground swimming pool shown below provides a true peaceful haven: its structure and coping in pressure-

treated pine make ecological and natural pool! A genuine yard recreational accessory, this above-ground pool is a solution that meets the needs of swimming as a family. The main advantage of the outdoor pool? It guarantees you a home vacation all summer long! On the practical side, the above-ground pool must meet all the requirements of a leisure pool: safe swimming, an attractive pool, and quality assured! Installed in the yard quickly and easily, above-ground pools also have the advantage of offering easier installation.

84 Swimming Pools...

Immerse yourself in nature... Organic pool, natural pool, ecological pool or even a swimming pond... Whatever you call it, the basic principle remains the same. With greater investment from the outset, you'll save on the cost of maintenance compared to a conventional pool. It is a pool without chlorine, free of chemicals, where only plants and minerals are used to clean and purify the water. The natural swimming pool requires space for the creation of two basins, one for swimming and one space reserved for regenerating the water using plants. A pumping system, soundproof and buried under the swimming pool, draws in water to send it to

the filter tank, there the water is cleared of organic particles by plants that feed on them through their roots. After purification, the water follows a circuit to oxygenate the water up to the regeneration basin, where the water naturally heats up by 5 or 6째C in contact with the pebbles, and finally ends up in the swimming pool. In terms of general maintenance, cleaning the walls of the swimming pool requires the purchase of a robot, as well as spending one day in the year trimming the plants. With the emergence of wildlife all around the pond, this process likewise favors a real ecological exchange with your environment.

And why not get a swimming pool and a spa? The Japanese and Swedish have long practiced outdoor bathing; its relaxing, anti-stress and invigorating properties are proven. The spa therapy element presented below is

characterized by a square box, a polyester shell and equipped with ultra-advanced spa technology. This alternative to the traditional pool is a valuable ally for moments when you take care of yourself. It can be installed outside, and swimming is possible 365 days a year because the water is at the desired temperature 24/7, so this is a very good choice if you live in a temperate region. It is less expensive to purchase and maintain, and can be a good compromise between a whirlpool and a pool. So, pool or spa, I'm torn between the two...

Focus on waterfalls‌ The waterfall is a decorative element to the pool, just like a fountain or jet. It guarantees a unique atmosphere through its soothing sound effects, it's a way to personalize your pool and increase its aesthetic value. If you prefer contemporary accessories with natural ambiances, you can find waterfalls made of a single stream of water that slides from a support attached to a pool coping or, in the same vein, you can opt to install a wall of water. And for a midnight swim, don't forget the option decorated with LED lighting. MCOMMEMAISON INTERACTIVE - No. 13

The Stairs: Island of the Gods...

MCOMMEMAISON INTERACTIVE - No. 13

The Stairs will open in Bali in early 2014. This hotel complex, twelve fully furnished and decorated loft villas, invites you to discover the delights of Southeast Asia, at the crossroads of the worlds...

The Stairs

92 Starck made …

Beyond the limits of creativity… It was a gorgeous little Corsican village, nestled atop a cliff, a meeting place that is both very intimate and international, that inspired the project. Nicolas Panzani, Noel Ciabrini and Hugues Revuelta traveled to Bali to build an urban village there, fully furnished and decorated by Philip Starck. It's located in the Seminyak region, south of Bali, on an island called "Island of the Gods". The Stairs symbolizes the rise of different cultures, which meet at the apex of their individual paths. This hotel complex of twelve loft villas, united by a public café and restaurant, is suitable for a stay that combines isolation and sharing. On the ground floor of villas, a loft space blends a Western interior with

a tropical exterior. Between the two worlds, retractable glass walls do away with boundaries. Painted by New York artist JonOne, they bring an unexpected spirit of Street Art to the decor. An eleven meter long swimming pool extends the villa. The indoor lounge combines natural and industrial materials: rough wood, linen, natural stone, steel, iPad station and LED lighting harmonize the Balinese spirit and modern life. An outdoor room, an office and dining area, rocking chairs and Balinese beds, feet in the water, are an invitation to away of life that is both urban and exotic life, between contemplation, action, time for conversation and enjoyment ...
