As a busy operator of a successful sheep stud and farm, Ash Murphy of Rich River Rural knows fi rsthand what livestock farmers need.

He knows to do the job right, farmers need the assurance of good quality, a ordable products. That’s the Rich River Rural motto after all. “We started Rich River Rural in January 2019,” Mr Murphy said. “We took a leap of faith and started from scratch.” Rich River Rural is the Australian distributor for Hecton Products from New Zealand, but also o ers a range of other livestock equipment options from other brands. The Echuca business stocks a wide range of products suited to the livestock market including autofeeders, weighing devices, loading ramps, shearing supplies, sheep yard panels and more. And while it supplies some cattle and horse handling equipment, the Rich River specialty is sheep yards and specialised sheep handling equipment. As the owner of Rich River Rural and a farmer himself, Mr Murphy knows his strongest sales tool is his own experience. He makes sure to use many of the products himself, which makes it easy for him to give customers solid recommendations. “When you’ve used it yourself, your advice is so much more authentic. “(And) we just keep getting more and more stu all the time.” If anything is a good measure of business, it’s loyal customers — and Rich River Rural has plenty of those. “We get a lot of repeat customers, a lot from around the area we’re from,” Mr Murphy said. “Once they buy one thing, they will ring up and buy other items from our range.” The recent rise in sheep and cattle prices has had a fl ow-on e ect for Rich River Rural as farmers are capitalising on high prices and upgrading their operations. As a result, the business has seen a huge increase in demand for innovative equipment, which Mr Murphy said was tailored towards simplifying and streamlining farm work. “The livestock prices at the moment are so good and people are investing their money back into equipment to make their jobs easier.” Rich River Rural is also an agent and stockist for Feedtech, a Tatura business that manufactures livestock feeding systems and feedlotting solutions.
