Navigating Burnout: An Introspective and Scientific Review of Burnout in Medical Imaging
Lakeidra Taylor Bell, Clinical Coordinator/Didactic Faculty, Baton Rouge General
Since the 1970s, burnout has become a relevant concept after it was researched by Dr. Herbert J. Freudenberger. Research has shown that burnout syndrome can have detrimental effects such as the loss of promising radiologic technologists (RTs) as well as reduced employee confidence and morale. However, burnout syndrome can be treated with the help of coworkers as well as department managers and administrators by providing intervention, guidance, and support. The purpose of this presentation is to identify the effects burnout has on RTs and how imaging departments can combat burnout in order to promote resiliency among RTs.

Optimizing Patient Care and Department Efficiency Through Effective Hospital Resource Utilization
Lauren Bergstrom DNP, RN, Associate Director of Hospital Imaging and Annette Long RT(R),(MR), MRSO Imaging MRI Manager, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center
Our MRI department faced extended wait times, leading to delays in patient care, longer lengths of stay, increased inpatient costs, and revenue loss. In January 2023, we initiated a Lean Six Sigma (LSS) project to address these issues. By February 2023, we began focusing on improving the department’s culture. In March 2023, we collaborated with interdisciplinary teams to further enhance patient access.
Through increased interdepartmental collaboration and weekly oversight, the team implemented key changes, including adding staff, optimizing the scheduling template to maximize available time, and engaging frontline staff in the process improvement. Join us to hear how this two-year initiave has impacted our facility.
