MARIETTA — Cobb voters will decide a host of primary winners during a July 22 runoff. On the Republican ticket, Jack Kingston and David Perdue square off in the race of U.S. Senate. The winner faces Democrat Michelle Nunn on Nov. 4. The other Republican primary races pit Bob Barr against Barry Loudermilk for Congressional District 11, Bill Byrne against Bob Weatherford for Cobb County Commission District 1, Tim Stultz against Susan Thayer for Cobb school board District 2 and Mike Buck against Richard Woods for Georgia school superintendent. On the Democratic ticket, Alicia Thomas Morgan faces Valarie Wilson in the state school superintendent race. There is one nonpartisan race to be decided as well, with Ann Harris facing Juanita Stedman for a Cobb Superior Court judgeship. Early voting begins June 30 and runs from 8 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Cobb Board of Elections, located at 736 Whitlock Avenue in Marietta. “Every vote is important and every office is important,” said Janine Eveler, director of the Cobb board of elections. VISION STATEMENT: It has been a privilege to represent the Post 2
community on the Cobb County School Board for the past 3 years. I have worked to make sure that parents and students are presented with choices in how to develop the best plan of success, including supporting the implementation of the county’s first career academy, supporting charter schools, and working with the board to develop policies that strengthen the academic performance of all schools. I have made it a priority to make sure that the interests of the Cobb taxpayers are represented during Board discussions. I was the conservative voice who said yes to returning excess SPLOST II collections back to the taxpayers as described by law, who fought to make sure SPLOST referendums would be held during November elections, and who worked to balance the district budget by not raising taxes or pushing deficit problems to the next year. The district still faces many challenges, including closing the achievement gap, and developing a long term balanced budget. I believe elected leaders are sent to office to solve the problems that are presented, and I will continue to offer solid ideas based on conservative principle to address these challenges.

While my experience in trying and sentencing murderers, rapists and child-molesters as an assisting superior court judge is important, it only represents 30% of the Superior Court’s work. Fortunately, I have the other 70% of the case load covered with years of expertise too. My opponent does not. Relevant court experience needs to apply to the 50% of the Superior Court’s work in domestic cases: divorce, child custody, support, alimony, division of assets and adoption involving life-changing decisions for all parties. Another 20% of the Superior Court’s work involves civil litigation: property disputes, personal injury, and business disputes. My opponent has no experience in these important areas ... NO experience with 70% of the Superior Court’s work. The private sector would never consider a job candidate with no experience and only 30% of a position’s required skill-set. Voters should not expect lower standards in government. I am the ONLY candidate with experience sitting as a Superior Court judge and accomplished with the full range of the court’s work. I took my father’s advice, and instead of just complaining about the direction my state government was headed, I took my experience as a husband, father, veteran, small business owner, employee and employer to the state capitol. There I served in both the State House and Senate, where I consistently advanced the principles of less government, lower taxes, pro-family and pro-freedom. Because of my consistent stance on these principles, I became known as one of the foremost conservative leaders in Georgia. While we face many unprecedented challenges brought on by big government, overwhelming debt and a loss of our traditional family values, I still believe in the American dream, and I am confident we can take our nation back. VISION STATEMENT: The American Dream is at peril. An overspending,
intrusive government is sapping away our liberties and taking away opportunity. I am worried our children and grandchildren will not know the same America we know and love. After fighting for countless pieces of good, reform-minded legislation to pass the House only to die on Harry Reid’s desk, I am convinced the battleground for the heart of our country is in the United States Senate. VISION STATEMENT: I’m not a politician. Instead, I’ve spent the last 40 years in private enterprise helping companies, large and small, grow their businesses and create jobs. Eventually, I worked my way up to become CEO of the Reebok athletic brand and Dollar General stores. We are facing a very real fiscal crisis due to irresponsible government policies which have led to a crushing federal debt and a struggling economy.
