Under the guidance of esteemed industry professionals, our students have honed their artistic skills through immersive workshops in choir, dance, drama, band, guitar, strings, and audiovisual media.
The Mulkadee Youth Arts Festival stands as a one-of-a-kind event in Australia, providing an extraordinary educational experience in the arts for students from 31 Catholic Schools within the Townsville Diocese. Beyond the confines of traditional classrooms, Mulkadee empowers students to embrace this invaluable opportunity with enthusiasm and passion.
We are blessed to collaborate with so many talented specialists, professionals, and dedicated support staff who have come together, both onstage and behind the scenes to bring this event to fruition. Our students are the fortunate beneficiaries of their profound expertise and experience, which are simply priceless. We extend our gratitude to all those involved in the production of this performance.

Sandy has performed lead roles in many plays & musicals such as Oliver, Chicago, Les Miserables, Return to the Forbidden Planet, Man of La Mancha, The Secret Garden, Sweeney Todd, Richard III, Cosi, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Pirates of Penzance, Rock of Ages, Annie, and Mamma Mia.
After completing her studies in musical theatre at NIDA, Sandy returned to Townsville to direct Rent for NQOMT, Les Miserables, Chess, Avenue Q, the award-winning Jekyll & Hyde, Spring Awakening, Legally Blonde, and most recently, Heathers for the Townsville Choral Society. She also Vocally directed Happy Days for TCS and conducted David Campbell’s backing choir for the Townsville show of his ‘Good Lovin’ tour.

Sandy’s contribution to theatre earned her a Townsville City Council Arts, Culture and Entertainment Award (Theatre) in 2007, the Limelight Award in 2013, and the Daphne Pease Trophy in 2014.
Synopsis
ACT 1
Our story begins in the middle of the 12th century England in the court of Prince John who is acting head of the country while his brother, King Richard the Lionheart is away fighting in the crusades. The Prince is having a lavish party. Someone mentions Robin Hood and the Prince has a tantrum. Marion and the Ladies-Not-Waiting decide to sneak into the forest to speak to Robin Hood and his Merry Malefactors.
Meanwhile, in the Village of Nottingham, Nottingham Rotters descend upon the village, squeezing taxes from the poor villagers. After they leave, Friar Tuck and Matron Cloquet try to pick up the pieces.
After ambusing and defeating the Nottingham Rotters, Robin and the gang are celebrating back at camp. During the celebration, Marian arrives showing them Robin’s wanted sign. They hatch a plan to get the bounty by pretending to have “caught” Robin.
Mystics (who only communicate in the form of dance) tell the Sheriff to attack Robin’s camp this very night. The Sheriff and Nottingham Rotters leave but Will waits behind to thank Funerina for her help.
Will returns to Robin’s camp to let them know that the Sheriff is on his way and that their plan is in motion. When the Sheriff arrives, he and his men are attacked by Robin’s followers. The Sheriff and the Nottingham Rotters end up defeated and bound BUT the Sheriff gets away.
Back at the Castle, Friar Tuck is ill so Marion calls for a doctor. Robin Hood (dressed as a Doctor) and the rest of the Malefactors arrive. They overwhelm the guards and free the townsfolk. While the townsfolk are fleeing Marion, Robin, and gang sneak off to steal some of Prince John’s gold from his bed chambers.
They are interrupted by the Sheriff storming into the Prince’s room. The Prince wakes up, the thieves are discovered and things look grim for Robin and the gang. King Richard appears to discuss a letter he received from Will Scarlett. King Richard announces a reprieve for all charges brought against Robin and his friends and an end to heavy taxation in return for being positively remembered in history’s pages.

DRAMA
TheatreiNQ (pronounced Theatre Ink) officially launched in 2010 under the leadership of Terri Brabon and Brendan O’Connor. TheatreiNQ received much community support and in the years since, has grown into an independent professionally driven theatre collective, comprising 40 ensemble members, offering a full annual season’s programming including the flagship event, ‘Shakespeare Under The Stars’.
The company’s season presents a mix of contemporary drama, revivals of the classics, Australian work and new writing through their FreshiNQ and ThiNQ Originals writing programs.

Arminelle is a born and bred local but has trained and worked in places as far flung as the USA, England and Brisbane.
She has worked for Zen Zen Zo Theatre, Matrix Theatre, Tropic Line/Sun Theatre and La Luna Youth Arts but now calls TheatreiNQ home. Here she works as an actor, grant writer and coordinator of their training programme THiNQ ED.
Arminelle also runs AWA - her own acting studio for young people in grades 1-12. She is passionate about live theatre and believes every young person needs a bit more drama in their life - preferably on the stage.

DANCE
Ballet, Buzz Dance and training institutions: AIT (Adelaide) and QUT (Queensland) and New Zealand School of Dance. Jane is currently creating and writing a contemporary syllabus for the ADA (Australasian Dance Association). This year Jane is up to Level 4 of the seven anticipated levels.

Jane now runs the school and Ulysses performance group, the latter, which is dedicated to creating and performing contemporary dance and giving young choreographers a platform upon which to create. They have now performed at Riverway Arts Centre for 11 years in June and a further 3 seasons at Dance North and The Townsville Civic Theatre including major works such as The Taming of the Shrew, Coppelia, Romeo & Juliet and King Arthur. This season will include the work of 7 choreographers.

Jane is currently the Director of the Ann Roberts School of Dance, the oldest established dance school in North Queensland and indeed Australia and Ulysses Dancers. Previously she has been the founder and director of Extensions Youth Dance for 11 years and Dance North for 8 years.

Rianta is absolutely thrilled to be involved in her first Mulkadee and part of such a dynamic team. She is beyond excited to share her passion and expertise and hopes to mentor and inspire the young musicians of North Queensland to continue their life-long pursuit in music.

Rianta is a vibrant and passionate conductor, educator and saxophonist. She is an advocate for musical diversity and equality, embracing under-represented composers through repertoire programming, and sharing her value of life-long music making through education and community engagement.
Rianta currently works for Education Queensland as a specialist woodwind teacher across Pimlico State High School, Hermit Park State School and Belgian Gardens State School.

Having performed in UK, Europe, Japan, South Pacific as well as at many venues and festivals throughout Australia, Andrew has appeared as a soloist, with his groups Flamenco Fire and The Saruzu Quartet as well as guest director/ composer/arranger/performer and producer for great Australian artistic institutions such as The Sydney Theatre Company, Opera Queensland and the Woodford Folk Festival to great critical acclaim.

Over the past twenty-five years Andrew Veivers has established himself as a director, producer, concert artist and composer of the highest calibre. STRINGS
Mulkadee specialist. Stephen has performed in many community events such as Eco Fiesta, Heritage Day, and Stable on the Strand.
Stephen has been involved with the Barrier Reef Orchestra since its inception in 2000 and is currently Concert Master. He loves his involvement with the Orchestra and is delighted to be surrounded by a host of young players who share his passion for music.
The opportunity to mentor and inspire young people with music gifts is a highlight of his career, and Stephen is delighted to work with the String players at Mulkadee this year.
Stephen Frewen-Lord
Stephen Frewen-Lord has spent most of his life in the Townsville community, learning violin locally and playing in many local music groups and eisteddfods, before completing a Bachelor of Music Degree at the University of Queensland. On his return to Townsville, he began teaching strings in private schools and through his own private studio. With over 35 years of teaching experience, Stephen continues to enjoy teaching and preparing students for performances and music exams.

Coming from the small rural town of Mount Isa, Kevin discovered his passion for filmmaking at an early age. With what started out as a Youtube channel making videos with his friends, Kevin now resides in Townsville creating videos for major companies and organisations across Australia.
Working with national brands like Westpac, Dell, NRL, QLD Government as well as servicing the wider Queensland region - Kevin has professional experience across a broad range of areas.
Kevin has been part of Mulkadee’s digital content team for a number of years now. Most recently, he led the film team responsible for the filmed components in Mulkadee’s 2022 program.
There are exciting times ahead for Mulkadee and Kevin can’t wait to help mentor the future filmmakers of
Luke Taylor is a digital content creator and art director - specialising in motion design and video production. A former Townsville local, he’s also collaborated on projects in London, Toronto and is now based in Brisbane.
He has been a part of the Mulkadee digital content team since 2016, producing everything from the daily rehearsal wrap videos to the animated graphics for the show. The creative challenge of producing a large volume of high-quality digital content in the whirlwind week of Mulkadee is one of his favourites to tackle every year.
Freelancing under his personal brand Taylor Creative , Luke creates everything from Instagram filters to music videos. He enjoys the unique puzzle of every project, especially if there’s a new technique or style to learn along the way.
