s new edition of Huneker's book that saw his first appearance in 1909, is wholly devoted to those modern poets, philosophers and prose masters whose writings embody the individualistic idea as opposed to altruistic and socialistic sentiments. Amply discussed are Stendhal, whose cult, recently revived on the Continent, is steadily growing; Maurice Barres, French Academician; Anatole France, blithe pagan and delicious ironist; Max Stimer, the forerunner of Nietzsche; The mystics, Ernest Hello new to American readers and William Blake. Much new historical material can be found in the studies of Charles Baudelaire and Gustave Flaubert. The hitherto unpublished letter of the novelist, along with an original page proof of "Madame Bovary," corrected by his own hand, will prove of interest to his admirers. That brilliant virtuoso of the French language, J. K. Huysmans, forms the subject of a chapter, while certain phases of Nietzsche, including his famous published biography, "Ecce Homo", and Ibsen dramas, are also subjects of discussion. Altogether the book represents the most mature critical and analytical thought of the author applied to some of the most interesting literary characters in the modern Europe.909.

hef Dino Carta’s journey began in the heart of Sardinia, where he nurtured his passion for culinary arts and learned his skills under the guidance of renowned local chefs. Sardinia Restaurant is a lighthouse for those looking for an authentic Italian dining experience that fully captures the essence of Sardinian cuisine.

Chef Dino Carta is an Italian chef behind Sardinia Restaurant in Sarasota. Chef Dino Carta is an ambassador of Sardinia’s rich cultural heritage and a chef. He wants to educate guests about his homeland’s diverse cuisine and history. He is the driving force behind this establishment, a testament to his talent. The chef’s commitment to quality and authenticity is demonstrated by dishes like Culurgiones , Gnocchi Sardi, and Paella di fregola. In a landscape dominated by Italian-American cuisine, we proposed to discover those restaurants that offer Italian cuisine that are passionate and talented. However, it is essential to note that the restaurant is a little out of hand from the center of Sarasota, and its anonymous facade in a peripheral area does not allow to seize the internal beauties. The room’s interior is typically Italian, not in the sense of “square tables and a bottle of Chianti,” but as a charming restaurant in the Tuscan hinterland. We chose a simple fixed-price menu at a fairly reasonable price for this area and this type of restaurant. The branzino fillet, rested on a “fregola bed,” was just as tasty. Chef Carta demonstrates an exceptional passion and culinary talent in creating tasty and refined dishes. Beyond its location, we can safely say that this is one of the best restaurants in Florida for those who want to taste authentic Italian cuisine. We highly recommend visiting this restaurant if you want an authentic Italian culinary experience. The Sardinian “gnocchi”, masterfully prepared with a ragout of meat and mushrooms, were simply delicious. Every mouth conquered us and made us feel like we were traveling in the heart of Italy. We visited this restaurant in the summer of 2022, but further reports arrived later, strengthening our initial impression. Prepare to immerse yourself in a passionate cuisine, where every dish will transport you on a culinary journey through Italy. Despite this, the taste and freshness of the branzino served were still excellent. Don’t be fooled by external appearance because inside, you will find an oasis of Italian flavors. The welcoming atmosphere and the well-kept furnishings have immediately transported us into a traditional Italian setting. With these premises, we are encapsulated in Chef Carta’s restaurant.

WOMEN HATED JAZZ AND IT WAS NOT CLEAR WHY... The famous phrase of a song (Under the stars of jazz) remains in the memory of all of us, dreamers under the stars of Paolo Conte.

The Iconic Jazz Maestro Redefining Musical Narrative

Born on January 6, 1937, in Asti, a small town in Italy’s Piedmont region, Conte was nurtured by the rich cultural heritage of his surroundings. From an early age, he displayed an immense passion for music, drawing inspiration from a diverse array of sources. His father, a lawyer and accomplished jazz pianist, played a pivotal role in shaping Conte’s musical sensibilities. As a child, he was exposed to a wide range of musical genres, from classic Italian popular music to American jazz luminaries such as Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong. This diverse array of influences laid the foundation for Conte’s unique sound. - FABRIZIO CATALFAMO (F. GUZZARDI)

12

“Jazz allows me to delve into the paradoxes and uncertainties that define human connections.” Conte’s music reflects his unique perspective and artistic expression, merging his love for jazz with his remarkably evocative storytelling. Throughout his career, Paolo Conte has remained a constant presence in the music industry, releasing numerous albums that further solidify his status as a musical virtuoso. In 1986, his album “Un Gelato al Limon” achieved international success, thrusting him into the global spotlight. Songs like “Max,”“Bartali,” and “Azzurro” became anthems of his genius, captivating audiences with their poetic lyricism and enchanting melodies. Paolo Conte’s contributions to the music industry transcend time and cultural boundaries. His ability to incorporate diverse influences into his music and his unique perspective on jazz have been instrumental in redefining musical narratives. Through his songs, he has created a world where women embrace jazz, challenging stereotypes and celebrating the complexities of human emotion. Thus, Paolo Conte’s legacy is fulfilled not only by the aura surrounding his iconic phrase “Le donne odiavano il jazz” but also by the deep emotional connection he forges with his listeners. As he continues to mesmerize audiences with his timeless melodies and captivating stories, Paolo Conte remains an eternal presence in the musical landscape, reminding us of the power of artistic expression to defy societal constructs and touch the depths of the human soul. After completing a degree in Law at the University of Turin, Conte embarked on a career in judicial examination. However, his love for music was so overpowering that he decided to pursue it professionally. In 1974, after spending years as a lawyer, he released his self-titled debut album, which garnered critical acclaim for its innovative blend of genres and Conte’s evocative storytelling. From that moment on, a prolific and successful career unfolded before him. One of Paolo Conte’s most famous phrases encapsulates not only his artistic journey but also serves as a cultural and historical marker: “Le donne odiavano il jazz.” Translated as “Women used to hate jazz,” these words became emblematic of Conte’s body of work. They represent a profound reflection on the evolving attitudes towards jazz and its relationship with women. In the early 20th century, jazz was seen as a brash and provocative genre that challenged the sensibilities of polite society. Its syncopated rhythms and improvisational nature challenged established norms and societal expectations. Women, in particular, were expected to embrace more refined and delicate forms of music, relegating jazz to the realm of rebellion and the avant-garde. Conte’s iconic phrase, “Le donne odiavano il jazz,” sheds light on this historical and cultural context. It subverts the stereotype that women should “hate” jazz, suggesting that there exists a transformative power in this music that transcends societal expectations. Moreover, it underscores Conte’s subtle resistance against prevailing stereotypes and his desire to convey a different narrative through his art. For Conte, jazz serves as a metaphor for the complexities and contradictions inherent in human relationships. It becomes a vehicle through which he explores themes of love, loss, longing, and nostalgia. His songs embody a world where love affairs unfold in smoky bars, passions burn fiercely, and heartbreak lingers in the shadows. In his melodic landscapes, women and jazz intertwine, forging narratives that challenge conventions and ignite the imagination. In an interview, Paolo Conte shared his thoughts on the significance of his iconic phrase: “I use jazz as a language to explore the emotional intricacies of life. These songs speak to a universal experience, regardless of gender. IM ITALIAN

SUSANNA CASUBOLO

INTERVIEW - RELAXED GLAMOUR -

Good morning, we are here with Massimo Raciti, who is a singer, actor, dancer, author and also journalist, radio speaker and YouTuber. Do you want to talk to us about your reports and what you do today? Sure, with pleasure. So, as far as my face as a journalist and reporter is concerned, it all started a bit by chance. A couple of years ago, when I came into contact with a Chilean television station and we started going around showing Italian cities. Everything beautiful our country offers, both from the point of view of art, culture, cuisine, and all the various aspects for which we are famous in the world. And it was wonderful, because then the response from the public was truly remarkable. Many then write to me to get more information about our country. They are curious to know and this can only please me. What do you bring into your reporting and what do you talk about? What type of reporting do you do?

I speak fluently, the same number was added, which are Russian, Arabic, and Romanian, because I had a part of my work also linked to Romania, German.

Well, normally we say I’m sightseeing in a city for an episode. They are very short reports of four to five minutes where I try to concentrate everything a little. And just like a tourist. I try to show everything that the city shows during a classic visit. And as far as cooking and other aspects are concerned, I even happened to prepare a pizza, lasagna, directly here at home and to see the recipe a little and then replicate it each in their own home. It’s not always feasible because while traveling I realized that the ingredients to experience the excellence of Italian cuisine are often missing.

16

MASSIMO RACITI 17

So we try to make do as much as possible. Then to ask to make these recipes. But in any case, I think it is still pleasant to have the feeling of being able to eat a piece of Italy even very far from our country, especially for all those Italians who live abroad, because we know that there is another Italy outside of geographical Italy that exists, scattered all over the world. So what you do is like a game to you? Yes, for the cook, it’s a pleasure. Then no one has had a stomach ache until now and we hope to continue like this. But yes, it’s something I definitely like to do. I started as a child in the kitchen doing some experiments and then over time it was very useful to me because, as I told you, he traveled a lot, partly because of the work he carried out as a respected journalist, but also because I deal with ceramics, design for cladding and therefore also for this reason they are often abroad representing Italy in this case too. In the sense of traveling around the world to sell products. In short, from the brand for which I work I realized how much we are also appreciated for Made in Italy, from the point of view of furniture, objects, in short, tiles. In my specific case, and so yes, it is wonderful for me to be able to carry out two things that are totally different from each other. And therefore entertainment and sport management, let’s say both linked to my country and therefore to the representation abroad of my entire cultural and geographical background and so on. Of course, so that’s also why you know five languages and are perfecting five more. How did this passion for languages develop and what purpose have they served you over time? It’s an illness because I’ve always had this exaggerated passion for foreign languages, ever since I was little, and I’ve never grown out of it. In short, since I started studying the first ones, I was passionate about them. But jokes aside, in my opinion, it is a way to break down the wall that can exist in communication with another person, not only from a linguistic point of view but also from the point of view of cultural sensitivity and empathy. It is clear that when you both speak with the same communication code there is greater closeness from a personal point of view and, consequently, it is much easier to become familiar. It is easier to understand each other better, not only from a grammatical point of view but from a 360 degree point of view. Ye s , t h e n I s t a r t e d w i t h E n g l i s h a n d F r e n c h . Then followed Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, obviously my mother tongue, and subsequently, in addition to these five languages that I speak fluently, the same number were added which are Russian, Arabic and Romanian, because I had part of my work is also linked to Romania, to German. I started a Chinese course, but it remained as the initial greeting because it was tough. We need time, which unfortunately I don’t have at the moment, to be able to study it adequately. But there’s something that intrigues me. A passion that I carry forward and that has also been very useful to me throughout my professional and personal cultural journey. Overall, it helped me a lot.

Osiris was born in Atlantis more than thirty-five thousand years ago. Long after her time, chroniclers will remember her because of her magnificentworks. The descendants of the motherland of men had retained clarity of thought. This is the case with many mythological creatures whose exploits have come downto our times. Their message and their works have been classified as supernatural by all those who did not want to devote the time necessary to deepen their meaning or make the necessary effort to discover that everything is divinely natural for a man who works in the natural domain of self. https://amzn.to/3LjS5ep

SICILIAN STREAKThe holidays in Sicily as a child, which also led me to see another aspect of Italian culture I AM FROM EMILIA ROMAGNA. I WAS BORN IN EMILIA ROMAGNA, As a child, did you imagine that you would become what you are today or what did you dream of becoming? As a child, precisely because I always had this passion for languages and imagined that my future would be focused on something that had to do with travel and the East in general. So I didn’t know whether from a commercial or journalistic point of view, but I knew I would travel and so it was. I have traveled so far in 25 26 countries around the world and I would also like to see all those that I have not yet seen and therefore I will certainly continue with this activity. What are your backgrounds? I am from Emilia Romagna. I was born in Emilia Romagna, my mother is from Romagna and my father is Sicilian. And so I also have a bit of this dual origin, in the sense that I consider myself fundamentally from Romagna because I have always lived here. However, in any case, I have this Sicilian streak that comes from my father and from all the holidays I took in Sicily as a child, which also led me to see another aspect of Italian culture because then we know very well that Italy, if they unified very late from a historical point of view and consequently all the regional differences remained which in my opinion enrich our background, our history and our culture.

CASTROCARO FESTIVAL

So it’s a bit of a mosaic of aspects that I like to bring in. Thanks also to this origin of mine composed as a child I told you about it. As far as entertainment goes, I started dancing at a very young age. She started with partner dancing, the dance you see on television, which is so fashionable in some ballroom dancing programs and I danced for ten years with the same dancer, Sarah White, with whom we are still super friends. , almost like brothers, sisters and subsequently, I moved towards other areas which were singing and acting, and which I gradually integrated, trying to take advantage of all the time possible. Because then my difficulty has always been wanting to do many things and always have 24 hours a day. Unfortunately they haven’t given me more and therefore my day is also a bit of a mosaic of factors and things to continually fit together. But it’s worth it because when you talk about tiredness it’s still a pleasant tiredness because I’ve done things that I like and therefore you feel less tired when you do something that you care about, that you love.

FASHION

MAGAZINE

Among all these things you did in the show, is there perhaps an experience that you carry in your heart, that affected you the most, even from an emotional point of view, and that you remember pleasantly? I’d say there are three. Practically the first I think was when I passed the selections for the Castrocaro Festival in Castrocaro until a few years ago, but it still continues to be necessary. But at the end of the 90s, in fact, the style was almost childish, and I didn’t expect to be able to reach the final bars. As a result, when they called me, I remember that several times I didn’t believe so much whether it was really the editorial team. In short, the idea of the Festival was either a joke if there had been some mistake because I didn’t expect it. That was a first confirmation from a singing point of view, pushing me to continue doing something else. Another time. Instead, it was when I did the first report for Connect, the television program I collaborated with in Chile, and I remember that it was live from “La Piazza di Lugo”.

I had my cell phone with me, I did everything on my cell phone. Accordingly, with all the worries, there may be some sense. A phone call comes and Pino tells me to leave my cell phone. I was excited, but I will do very well. Subsequently I also began to make these reports and intensify them. Then everything, the whole journalistic part, becoming a real reporter for Connect and subsequently also for other channels, such as Channel in Uruguay, and I am receiving further contacts to expand this activity of mine a little in South America and I hope not only because I would like do these reports not only in Spanish but also in other languages.

In fact, one thing I care about a lot is the YouTube channel, where I publish all the reports I do for these channels, which will certainly be translated into all other languages in the coming months to give an increasingly wider audience the opportunity to see them. So in the meantime, sign up, and you’ll see it, sooner or later your language too. Some are already in Italian. Then our readers or listeners can still go look for you on YouTube to see some of your reports. However, you mentioned three unpublished experiences. Many years ago I was on the set of “Grandi Domani”, I had a very small role because it was my first experience, but it was a continuous role and consequently I was on set for almost half of the entire

I

remember that the first impact was quite traumatic because I had never been on set, so there was the positive emotion of finally realizing what I had dreamed of for a long time and at the same time the emotion of being very loved, because then I didn’t know how to move. , I didn’t know where to look, I didn’t know how to approach the various figures working on the set. So yes, I remember a bit of this dualism of emotions which in any case was certainly constructive. So yes, I remember a bit of this dualism of emotions which in any case was certainly constructive.

You’re also on the set of fiction and other things, in short, but what do you have left of foreign productions, of Italian productions? No, for the moment I don’t have any Italian productions. As for the acting, the presence on the set of Diabolik was excellent, one of the policemen who at a certain point Diabolik, together with Valerio Mastrandrea, had finished. In fact I don’t even have any lines. Those scenes, however, are all experiences that helped me develop the ability to be on set and learn to move and approach this world without risking too much. If we’re honest, I’ve never had a leading role until now.

“ Dancing with the Stars, where the types of dances I danced as a child are danced, and a television program that I like.

But who knows what the future holds for us? Fingers crossed for you. Fingers crossed, but I was pleased to do it this way because in this way I had the opportunity to steal a bit of the craft from those I was observing who instead had a fundamental role for the film and for the fiction of the set. Consequently, they are all more concrete parts of the school that lead you to enrich your professional background. But what if there was a genie who could grant your wish and so would the registry? Since we’ve talked about cinema, I certainly can’t help but say that a role, if not as a protagonist, let’s say as a co-protagonist, given that...

So we thank you for your availability and say goodbye now, but perhaps we hope to see you again for some future project. Maybe in another interview, so you can tell us something else you’ve done and something you’ve further accomplished, given your versatility, and what else could I tell us? A thousand thanks.

Until we meet again. Hello to all readers and those who are viewing In some films this service. there are some “Then our readers or listeners films both in Italy can still go look for you on and abroad. However, it requires YouTube to see some of your acting in a televireports. However, you mension or film protioned three unpublished duction. It’s not one of my dreams. experiences.” Another wish could be to participate in a program that always brings back a bit of my past, such as Dancing with the Stars, where the types of dances I danced as a child are danced, and a television program that I like. Because unlike other reality or talent shows, where there is more of a gossip aspect, let’s say that Ballando instead seems to be very focused on actual dance, on art.

And then there’s all the rest of the fun

too. But it’s a beautiful thing, with a skill and learning that comes gradually from episode to episode. And we use a third wish to sing. At this point I would like to go further, but above all I would like to combine it with something from television, for example a program in which I can continue what I am already doing. So I have a role as a presenter where, at the same time, I have the possibility to express myself in other ways, like singing for example. So, let’s try the genius; we put 3 or 4 wishes inside this last point.

ntering into a relationship with a narcissistic individual can be a challenging and emotionally draining experience. Understanding the key characteristics of narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) and the dynamics at play is vital for those involved in such relationships. In this blog post, we will explore the defining characteristics of narcissism, the challenges faced by individuals involved with narcissists, and provide actionable strategies to navigate these relationships while safeguarding your own well-being. Understanding Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD):

N

arcissism is a complex and multifaceted personality trait that encompasses self-centeredness, grandiosity, and a sense of entitlement. However, it’s crucial to differentiate between a self-confident individual and someone with NPD. Some defining characteristics of NPD include: 1. Grandiose Sense of Self-Importance: Narcissists exhibit an inflated view of their own importance and achievements, often believing they are unique and exceptional. 2. Lack of Empathy: Individuals with NPD struggle to understand or relate to the emotions and experiences of others, often resulting in dismissive or callous behavior. 3. Need for constant admiration: Narcissists incessantly seek validation, praise, and admiration from others, using it to boost their fragile self-esteem. 4. Exploitative Behavior: Narcissists often exploit others for their own gain, viewing relationships as a means to obtain what they desire rather than fostering genuine connections. 5. Manipulative Tactics: Gaslighting, love-bombing, and triangulation are just a few examples of manipulation techniques employed by narcissists to maintain control over their partners. Challenges Faced in Relationships with Narcissists: Being in a relationship with a narcissist can be profoundly challenging and emotionally exhausting. Some common difficulties faced by individuals involved with narcissists include:

IM ITALIAN

MAGAZINE

1. Emotional Manipulation: Narcissists use manipulation tactics to control and dominate their partners, leaving them feeling confused, invalidated, and powerless. 2. Low Self-Esteem: Constant criticism and devaluation can erode one’s self-worth, leading to feelings of insecurity, self-doubt, and even depression. 3. Boundary Invasion: Narcissists routinely ignore or disrespect personal boundaries, leaving their partners feeling violated and diminished. 4. Isolation and Alienation: Narcissists may isolate their partners from friends and family, thus increasing dependence and reducing support networks. 5. Persistent O ver whelm: The emotional rollercoaster of being in a relationship with a narcissist can lead to chronic stress, anxiety, and a significant toll on mental health. Strategies for Navigating Relationships with Narcissists: 1. Set Boundaries: Establish clear boundaries and non-negotiable limits to protect your emotional well-being. Communicate them assertively and consistently, reinforcing consequences for boundary violations. Example: When your partner makes derogatory comments towards you, calmly but firmly state that insults are unacceptable and that continued disrespect will result in reduced contact. 2. Build and Strengthen Support Networks: Seek support from trusted friends, family, or professionals who can provide validation, emotional grounding, and perspective during difficult times. Example: Sharing your experiences with a supportive friend who understands narcissistic personality traits can help provide clarity and reassurance. 3. Prioritize Self-Esteem: Engage in activities that promote self-worth, self-compassion, and self-respect. Celebrate your achievements and focus on nurturing your own happiness. Mindfulness Techniques: Incorporate mindfulness practices such as meditation, yoga, or journaling to stay

22

with Narcissists grounded and maintain perspective amidst the chaos. Example: Regularly engaging in self-care activities like taking a long bath, going for a walk in nature, or reading a book that excites you can help in restoring your emotional well-being. 4. Learn to Recognize Manipulation Tactics: Educate yourself on common manipulation techniques employed by narcissists. This understanding can help you identify and resist manipulation attempts. Example: When your partner tries to gaslight you by distorting reality, remind yourself of the actual events and consult trusted sources to validate your memory. Navigating relationships with narcissists can be a formidable challenge, but it is not insurmountable. By understanding the characteristics of narcissism, recognizing manipulation tactics, and implementing strategies to establish boundaries and maintain self-worth, individuals can protect their emotional well-being. Remember, prioritizing your own well-being is essential. Seek support, practice self-care, and empower yourself to break free from the clutches of a narcissistic relationship. You deserve to live a fulfilling and authentic life. How to Break Free from a Narcissistic Personality: A Path to Healing and Empowerment Dealing with a narcissistic personality can be a draining and soul-crushing experience. The relentless need for validation, manipulative behaviors, and a complete lack of empathy can leave their victims feeling trapped and helpless. However, it is possible to break free from the toxic grip of a narcissist and reclaim your life. In this article, we will explore strategies and techniques to quit a narcissist personality and embark on a journey towards healing and empowerment. 1. Recognize the narcissist ’s behavior: The first step in freeing yourself from a narcissistic personality is to identify their disruptive traits. Narcissists have an inflated sense of self-importance, crave excessive admiration, lack empathy, exploit others, and exhibit envy or arrogance. Acknowledging these behaviors will help you understand that the problem lies with them, not with you. 2. Set healthy boundaries: Narcissists thrive on control, and it is crucial to establish clear boundaries to protect your emotional well-being. Assertively communicate what behaviors are unacceptable and make it clear that you will no longer tolerate manipulation, gaslighting, or any form of emotional abuse. Consistency and firmness are key to maintaining these boundaries.

23

3. Seek suppor t from trusted individuals: It is essential to build a support network of understanding and empathetic individuals who can provide perspective and validate your experiences. Reach out to friends, family, or support groups to share your story and gain support during challenging times. The narcissist may have isolated you, but by reconnecting with loved ones, you reclaim your support system. 4 . E d u c a t e y o u r s e l f : Knowledge is power. Educate yourself about narcissism and its effects to gain insight into the dynamics of your relationship with the narcissist. Books, articles, and online resources can provide valuable information, equipping you with strategies to navigate this challenging journey. 5 . P r a c t i c e s e l f - c a r e : Prioritize self-care and self-love during this healing process. Engage in activities that nurture your mind, body, and soul, such as exercise, meditation, therapy, or creative endeavors. Nurture yourself, rebuild your self-esteem, and remind yourself of your worth. Remember, you are deserving of love, respect, and happiness. 6 . D e t a c h e m o t i o n a l l y : Breaking free from a narcissistic personality requires detaching emotionally and minimizing contact. Limit any unnecessary communication with the narcissist. Disconnect from their manipulation techniques and learn to stand firm in your resolve to reclaim your life. This will allow you to focus on your healing journey and prevent any further emotional damage. 7. The Complex Relationship Between Individuals with Autism and a Narcissistic Mother Unraveling Challenges and Fostering Healthy Dynamics

by Fabrizio Catalfamo ( F. Guzzardi)

P

arent-child relationships play a vital role in shaping an individual’s emotional and psychological well-being. However, when one parent displays narcissistic tendencies and another child has autism, the dynamics can become particularly complex and challenging to navigate. This article aims to delve into this intricate relationship, using personal stories, expert opinions, and scientific research to shed light on the dynamics, challenges, and potential effects on individuals with autism. Furthermore, it seeks to offer strategies for coping and seeking support while highlighting the importance of understanding and fostering healthy relationships. Understanding the Narcissistic Mother: A narcissistic mother is characterized by an inflated sense of self-importance, a constant need for admiration, and a lack of empathy. These traits can profoundly impact their interactions with their child, particularly one with autism. Personal Story: Sarah’s Struggle Sarah, a young adult with autism, recounts her experience growing up with a narcissistic mother. She shares how her mother’s constant need for attention made it challenging to develop a sense of self, and her lack of empathy exacerbated feelings of isolation. Sarah’s story serves as a poignant illustration of the complexity and strain present in this relationship. Expert Opinions: Dr. Dana Dorfman, a clinical psychologist, emphasizes that a narcissistic mother’s lack of empathy can undermine a child’s self-esteem. She explains that when empathy is absent, the child’s unique needs and emotions are dismissed or invalidated, leading to a cycle of frustration, resentment, and self-doubt.

Psychological Effects on Individuals with Autism: The emotional and psychological effects of a narcissistic mother on individuals with autism can be particularly pronounced. These effects may include: 1. Damaged sense of self-worth: The constant criticism and lack of validation undermine the child’s self-esteem, making it difficult for them to recognize their own worth and capabilities. 2. Social isolation: A narcissistic mother’s need for attention can lead to the neglect of the child’s social and emotional needs, leaving them feeling lonely and disconnected from peers. 3. Heightened anxiety and depression: The unpredictable behavior and emotional volatility of a narcissistic mother can exacerbate anxiety and depression symptoms, leading to increased emotional distress for the child. Coping and Seeking Support: While navigating this challenging relationship can be overwhelming, there are strategies that individuals with autism can employ to promote their well-being: 1. Establish boundaries: Recognize and set boundaries to protect your own emotional well-being. Establishing limits on interactions with the narcissistic mother can help reduce the impact of their behavior. 2. Seek external support: Relying on support networks, such as friends, therapists, or support groups, allows individuals with autism to express their feelings, gain advice, and build resilience.

3. Practice self-care: Engage in activities that promote self-care, such as exercise, mindfulness, and hobbies. Prioritizing personal well-being can help alleviate stress and improve self-esteem. Importance of Understanding and Empathy: It is crucial for both individuals with autism and their narcissistic mothers to seek understanding and empathy to foster healthier dynamics. Personal Story: Mia’s Journey Mia, a woman with autism who underwent therapy with her narcissistic mother, shares her transformative experience. By cultivating empathy and understanding, both Mia and her mother were able to break free from negative patterns and build a more positive and supportive relationship.

T

he complex relationship between individuals with autism and a narcissistic mother brings forth unique challenges. By understanding the narcissistic mother’s traits, acknowledging the potential psychological effects on individuals with autism, and implementing coping strategies, it is possible to mitigate the negative impacts of this relationship. Moreover, fostering understanding, empathy, and seeking professional support can help pave the way for healthier and more positive dynamics between individuals with autism and their mothers.

We are obsessed with the control of reason, we are obsessed with obtaining an explanation that puts us safe from future suffering but, let’s stop and think. Let’s start by saying that if a person enters our life, that is the right person! In the psyche there is no chance, nothing happens by chance and every person who goes through our life does it to teach us something, for better or for worse, and does it to favor our evolution. Everything that happens to us makes sense, it has an ultimate purpose that is important to grasp, so whenever we feel something, that is the right moment.

The Perils of Excessive Permissiveness: Unraveling New York City’s Social Fabric by Fabrizio Catalfamo (F.Guzzardi)

N IM ITALIAN

ew York City has long held a reputation as a hub of diversity, creativity, and individual liberty. However, the city’s excessive permissiveness has increasingly led to a series of negative consequences in various aspects of public life. While permissiveness can have its benefits, it is important to consider the potential harms it poses to public safety, effective governance, and social cohesion. It is crucial that we evaluate the impact of permissiveness in order to strike a balance between personal freedom and the orderly functioning of society. Public Safety and the Erosion of Law and Order:

revenue for public transportation, reduced resources for maintaining security, and an increased sense of lawlessness underground. This permissive approach has eroded the social contract that assures a safe and orderly environment for all New Yorkers.

Excessive permissiveness in New York City has had a detrimental impact on public safety. The rise in petty crimes, substance abuse, and public disorder incidents can be partially attributed to a laissez-faire attitude stemming from a misguided interpretation of personal freedom. A New York Times report revealed that reduced penalties for low-level offenses, combined with less proactive policing practices, have contributed to a troubling increase in street homelessness and a general sense of insecurity among residents.

New York City’s prolonged failure to address the use of private property as unregulated short-term rentals is a prime example. While platforms like Airbnb offer convenience and additional income for hosts, the lack of regulation has disrupted neighborhoods, driven up housing costs, and decreased the affordable housing stock. By allowing permissiveness to outweigh the needs of the community, the city has inadvertently created an environment where corporate interests take precedence over the wellbeing of its residents.

One of the most significant examples is the controversial decision to relax enforcement of fare evasion on the subway system. While the intention was to address inequality, it has inadvertently led to decreased

Social Cohesion and the Cost of Fragmentation:

Governance and the Pitfalls of Over-Tolerance: Excessive permissiveness can pose significant challenges to effective governance. When authorities turn a blind eye to minor offenses or fail to enforce regulations, it undermines the credibility of the entire governance system. The weakening of rules and regulations can lead to a lack of accountability, fostering an environment where corruption and abuses of power flourish.

Permissiveness can fragment social cohesion, leading to a divided city rather than a united one. Unchecked individual freedoms, without a

sense of shared responsibility, engender a society lacking common values, trust, and a willingness to compromise for the greater good. The controversy surrounding public spaces underscores this issue. Parks and squares, once cherished places for all New Yorkers, are now sprawling tent cities for the homeless. While the right to shelter is vital, the unchecked encroachment upon public spaces undermines the principle of shared places and fosters animosity between groups. This fragmentation hinders the creation of vibrant communities and exacerbates socio-economic disparities within the city. Balancing

Permissiveness

and

Order:

It is essential to acknowledge that certain benefits can arise from permissiveness. It encourages creativity, innovation, and a diversity of perspectives. However, an excessive permissive approach can jeopardize public safety, governance, and social cohesion. To strike a balance, New York City policymakers should prioritize data-driven decision-making and holistic policy analyses. By actively engaging communities, they can better understand the impact of permissiveness on various sectors. Stricter, well-enforced regulations can counterbalance the negative consequences of excessive permissiveness, ensuring that personal freedom is not obtained at the expense of public order and harmony.

W

hile the freedom to express oneself and enjoy personal liberties are fundamental rights, New York City must be cautious not to allow excessive permissiveness to undermine the very foundations upon which it stands. By acknowledging the balance between individual rights and the collective wellbeing, the city can harmonize the advantages of permissiveness with the necessity for public safety, effective governance, and social cohesion. The delicate tightrope of permissiveness must be walked with care if New York City is to truly flourish as a diverse, inclusive metropolis. Title: Unveiling the Veiled City: A Critical Analysis of New York’s Challenges, Shortcomings, and Areas for Improvement

sues and explore potential solutions.

The bustling metropolis of New York City is often romanticized as a symbol of prosperity, diversity, and limitless opportunities. However, beneath the glossy exterior lies a city grappling with various challenges, shortcomings, and pressing issues that demand attention and discussion. This critical analysis aims to shed light on key areas such as infrastructure, transportation, social inequality, and governance, presenting evidence and examples to prompt readers to reflect on the is-

2. Transportation:

1. Infrastructure: New York City’s aging infrastructure is a cause for concern, hampering economic growth and daily life experiences. The subway system, once a hallmark of efficiency, now suffers from chronic delays, overcrowded trains, and crumbling stations. As a result, commuters face longer travel times, productivity losses, and negative health effects from overcrowding and platform hazards. Investment in infrastructure maintenance and expansion, coupled with innovative solutions like improved signaling technology, are critical for addressing these challenges. Example: The 2017 subway crisis, which left thousands stranded during peak hours due to power failures, signals the urgency for infrastructure upgrades.

Congestion and inadequate transportation options pose significant challenges in New York City. The reliance on personal vehicles exacerbates traffic congestion and worsens air quality, affecting public health and contributing to climate change. While efforts to promote sustainable transportation options, such as bike lanes and public transit, have been made, they remain insufficient to meet the city’s evolving needs.

Example: The gridlock caused by vehicles navigating through narrow streets hinders emergency response vehicles, leading to delayed assistance during critical situations. 3. Social Inequality: New York City, with its extreme wealth juxtaposed against pockets of poverty, struggles with stark social inequalities. The cost of living, especially housing, continues to rise, forcing vulnerable communities out of neighborhoods they have called home for generations. This leads to the displacement and marginalization of low-income individuals and exacerbates income inequality. Educational disparities also persist, as schools in affluent areas receive more resources, perpetuating the cycle of inequality.

he role of a mayor is pivotal in addressing the needs of a city’s residents and ensuring the overall development and well-being of its population. To address these issues, the mayor should invest in a comprehensive plan for infrastructure development while prioritizing the needs of commuters through increased frequency, improved maintenance, and smart solutions. It is crucial for the mayor to learn from past experiences and adapt policies and actions to meet the evolving needs of New York City’s diverse population. The mayor should work towards creating targeted programs to address these disparities and ensure wider access to economic opportunities. The mayor needs to address these concerns by streamlining processes and ensuring transparency. The mayor should prioritize targeted interventions, teacher training, and curricular improvements to enhance academic outcomes for students across the board. Conclusion: In evaluating the policies and actions of New York City’s mayor over the past year, we find a mix of successes and failures. In this critical analysis, we will assess the policies and actions carried out by New York City’s mayor over the past year. I. Housing and Homelessness Policies: New York City faces significant challenges in terms of affordable housing and homelessness. Statistical data shows a decline in stop-and-frisk incidents, but personal anecdotes indicate concerns among some residents regarding increased crime rates. On one hand, the implementation of affordable housing programs has seen positive outcomes, with a substantial increase in the number of affordable units created. V. Economic Development and Job Creation: Promoting economic growth and

employment opportunities is vital for the well-being of New York City residents. Statistical data suggests that the city has made progress in expanding affordable housing availability. While there has been progress in areas such as affordable housing, education, and economic development, there are concerns that need to be addressed, including bureaucratic inefficiencies and disparities in accessing services. Exploring the Melting Pot: Perspec-

from different cultural backgrounds, age groups, and travel experiences. One theme that emerged from these interviews is the sheer magnitude of New York City’s offerings. Maria, a first-time visitor from Brazil, exclaimed, “The city has so much energy! There is always something happening – the lights, the music, the people. It’s overwhelming, but in a good way!” Similarly, Chris, a repeat traveler from Australia, praised the city for its endless opportuni-

Many mentioned the high costs associated with New York City. John, a retired tourist from Canada, expressed concerns about the city’s affordability. “The prices for accommodation, meals, and attractions can be quite steep,” he said. “It’s definitely something to consider before planning a trip here.” Another recurring theme was the fastpaced and crowded nature of the city. While some viewed it as an exhilarating part of the experience, others found it overwhelming. Emma, a firsttime visitor from the United Kingdom, shared, “I’m used to a slower pace of life, so the hustle and bustle of New York City took some getting used to. But once I embraced it, I realized that it’s what keeps the city alive.” Overall, New York City was hailed as a city of opportunities, diversity, and unmatched energy. Its iconic landmarks and cultural kaleidoscope left deep impressions on tourists, inviting them to return time and time again. While some pointed to affordability as a potential deterrent, others saw it as a worthwhile investment for a truly unique experience. As I delved deeper into their experiences, it became clear that New York City is a place that offers something for everyone. Its vibrant streets, cultural richness, and endless possibilities embody the true essence of this global metropolis. It is a destination that captivates the hearts and minds of tourists, leaving an indelible mark on their travel journeys.

INTERVISTA CON MARIA GRAZIA VANTADORI

The audiobook About this audiobook The evening vanished with more vague attitudes. I left Marilyn to be alone with my thoughts. I walked into the garden; some roses were picked and deposited in a water-filled metal bucket. A few leaves lay on the path that led to the back of the house in a geometric, almost enchanted order. Marilyn had kindled questions inside me, what was important to me? Thinking about it, I realized that on that journey, what I was trying to achieve was not a report on the texts of that book but a balance of my life. I paused to think about Marilyn’s emotional absences, and I thought with sadness that they must have been the same ones my son had felt; maybe she was right, perhaps all fathers are a little absent, but I didn’t feel justified for this. I also remembered the traumatic memories of Angela and her desperate search for the closeness of her mother or at least for her consent, which could have liberated her from life. I considered the relativity of things intertwined and the need, or perhaps the duty, not to interact negatively in the evolutionary path of other souls connected to one’s own.

ou are a surgeon and have chosen to operate on the front line, that is, in the Emergency Department! How come? Mine was a vigorously pursued choice: I wanted this type of work. Of course, at twenty, you have different expectations from reality. Routine scared me; living peacefully with a job that was always the same. Entering the room and not knowing what could happen to me in 5 minutes was the right choice. I have always been restless, and this job has, in part, satisfied this need of mine. Then I had the chance to meet thousands of people, each person a story. I’m lucky; I’ve learned a lot from people; I’ve found my path and my true interests with my, or rather, my clients.” ow did your passion for medicine begin? I come from the working class; I had no specific references, and my parents always supported me in my choices, thanks to them, which were never immense enough. Even as a child, I dreamed of this job: I played a lot in the condominium courtyard with my friends, and among the familiar games, “The Cheerful Surgeon” was my favorite; my patient’s nose never lit up! As you can see, Dr. Gannon of the Medical Center did the rest, stunned by a bit of television.

“I think they have a lot in common: they need imagination, to create what does not exist, to make it possible, and to improve reality. It takes talent, I really believe it, medicine heals like beauty.”

In the Louvre everyone was looking at the Mona Lisa, I was crying, alone, a few steps away admiring Leonardo’s “Virgin of the Rocks”.

B

ut you are also an artist, even if you don’t want to admit it! What is art for you? I don’t feel like one; I would be like the raven who adorns himself with peacock feathers in the fable of Phaedrus. I’m not a peacock, so I can’t call myself an artist. I paint, write, create objects, and photograph for myself. I enter a parallel world when I try: I love challenges and accept them all. So, I try my hand at it without expecting the final result. Sometimes it satisfies me, sometimes it doesn’t, but it’s not a problem; it relaxes me and makes me feel good. Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. Art, for me, is the exaltation of the beauty of life; an artist is someone excited with his work. I also sometimes cry with emotion for a good book or a film, a photograph, a piece of music, a song, a landscape, cooking... everything, in short.

C

ould it be argued that surgery is also an art in its own way?

I think so: there is a lot of recklessness in surgery if you think about it. It was practically born from war and devastation: to save lives on the battlefield (with the idea of sending soldiers back to the front line), developing hand-in-hand with anesthesia.

“I have learned to read bodies, their injuries tell me devastating realities.“ “Napoleon had surgeons on the battlefields: they amputated, they sutured, they tried to patch up the weapons.”

They study practical solutions by applying their (sometimes truly bizarre) imagination. It takes a good amount of detachment to do this job: it’s not so obvious to think of having to open a corpse or even simply of having to do harm to have good

I

’ve seen your works and I find them interesting and very meaningful! Can you tell us? I have no ambition to create beauty, but it gratifies me greatly that you can find what I define as my messes pleasant. Sometimes, a situation, a detail, or a photo pushes me to recreate it. To propose again through my experience what moved me. This is what drives me to try. I am the mediation of what moved me; I am not the deus ex machina, the one who generates emotions; I propose them again through my lenses. For example, I saw the skeletons of an archaeological excavation in Cyprus, the results of the earthquake of 365 AD: a man embracing a woman trying to protect a child... I thought about the family; I thought about their life, death, unity, fear, and love that united them.

I felt like painting it, a watercolor was born. I don’t know if those who look at it see and feel what I felt, perhaps they don’t say anything, just bones placed there apparently at random on reddish earth

C

an art and medicine coexist only as hobbies, or do they have something in their cultural and scientific DNA that associates them, makes them similar, and unites them at the highest point of creation, that is, talent? After all, they are also two philosophies that heal! Don’t you think? I think they have a lot in common: they need imagination, to create what does not exist, to make it possible, and to improve reality. It takes talent, I really believe it, medicine heals like beauty.

D

id you tell me about a medical/artistic project of yours made up of X-rays? Do you want to explain it to the readers of I’M Italian? Very willingly. In the emergency room at the San Carlo Hospital in Milan, where I have worked for over 33 years, I welcome many people, and many of them are women who are victims of their partners. I have learned to read bodies; their injuries tell me devastating realities. So I asked myself, is it possible that violent people don’t understand the pain they inflict? The devastation they wreak? So, I thought of using the X-rays of my patients (anonymously). It took me at least a decade to make it happen; I couldn’t find anyone who believed in this project of mine. Then, a large foundation thought it might be an idea: it introduced me to a photographer with whom I collaborated. The result was an exhibition released on November 25, 2019, the International Day Against Violence Against Women. A freelancer from CNN came, and she was impressed by it. That evening, the news from around the world talked about my x-rays and me. I wondered why it had taken me so long to realize it, but the idea had passed. I’m not happy. There was a sad epilogue. My creature is no longer mine: the photographer photographed the latest ones, therefore not original, and she took possession of the idea. You also won a significant communications award with this.

I

know that you consider yourself a citizen of the world and that you are an idealist! As the visionary that I am, I ask you: do you believe that there is still room in this world to be visionaries, dreamers, and utopians? Of course, never give up. He replies to you with words that are not mine but perfectly reflect what I think and believe: “We die of weakness, which makes any hope possible. Weakness has always lived on imagination. Strength has never invented anything... this atavistic disposition towards optimism, which is in me like an illness against which I can do nothing, ended up making me take on the appearance of a blissful and pleasant imbecility... I was stupid and I am left, stupid to die, stupid to live, stupid to hope, stupid to be right,” Romain Gary. It is much longer and more detailed, but this summarizes the core of the thought. This is why he is my favorite author. It’s like this for me; I can’t be different.

W

hat relationship do you have with nature?

We are animals that inhabit this magnificent planet, no more or less than other living beings. We are destroying it in the name of the profit of a few. The kids are doing well to oppose this market logic. I try to do everything I can to try to improve the situation. I am just a tiny droplet... but many droplets make the oceans, and without my droplet, the sea is poorer (this is from Sister Teresa of Calcutta, not mine). After all, it is a reality that we must cooperate to live and improve. The world is lovely; sometimes, I get lost in observing a landscape, a flower, or a bird’s flight.

A

nd with people? Then you do many things to help women and children in family difficulty, victims of domestic violence, and to prevent femicides! In the emergency room, I learned a lot, especially from women, I owe to them what I am and my awareness and desire to commit to ensuring that certain abominations stop. Yes, I can declare it: I prevent femicides, and I do everything in my power, within the law obviously, to ensure that these women and their children get out of unimaginable situations. It is local, only within the scope of my work, my drop in the ocean. Even the action of an individual can be decisive for many, I learned this in the field.

Y

ou founded an association to assist nomads and foreigners... do you want to talk to us about it?

Not many people know this: my mentor, my friend Italo Siena, a long time ago asked me to help him in founding an association to assist nomads and foreigners... I started visiting nomads in a Comasina camp there in Milan, in an old caravan donated by the Municipality of Milan, in the cold and snow. NAGA was born... now it is a significant association, I am no longer in that association, work has absorbed me elsewhere. Ultimately, that imprint has remained with me: I founded with friends a new “violet bud” association that deals with giving a future to fragile people, especially women who have emerged from a life of abuse and their boys and girls. Sprout because it is not a future projection, something quiescent, but concrete in being. Viola in honor of Franca Viola who, with determination and courage, allowed the abolition of honor killings in Italy. We really owe a lot.

S

ometimes you say you feel like a new Cassandra! Why?

I’m a visionary, sometimes I see things in advance that materialize after years, decades, at the hands of others... and I’m happy... after all I thought so too but I wasn’t able to bring the project to light, which now it’s reality

P

rojects, ideas, future aspirations?

Many, yes many indeed: I am 62 years old, in fact almost 63 and I can’t wait to retire so I can achieve them, maybe not all of them (they are really many). I would like to dedicate myself to Purple Bud, to women, to their children. I have projects that involve these women by combining them with the environment. I would need a lot of funds to start and I don’t know how I will do it, but I have to try for women and for our planet, for our future. And then painting, photography, cooking, and finally, if I am physically able, travel to discover places but above all people, cultures, and lives different from mine.

O

ne last question about the future: what is this not well-defined but always plausible and imaginable portion of time for you?

“A time of hope. The time of the possible, where everything can be thought of and achieved, with a look at the past to avoid making the same mistakes, ultimately the best time.”

Francesco Corsi and Ilaria Bruccoleri, two Milanese devoted to nature! Why? Tell us who you are and your story! Francesco: I have been a goldsmith for thirty years! I have always lived in Milan…I was a parachuting enthusiast and I won a second life!… Can you explain better? I miraculously survived a bad accident thanks to which I understood that time has no consistency! Ilaria: graduated with honors in architecture, mother of three girls, former parachutist like Francesco and I am very passionate about extreme sports and motorbikes!

36

From the ordinary of the city to the surprising everyday life of the countryside! Is it a leap in quality, a change of life, or just a way to get away from the chaos of a metropolis? Francesco: I thank you Roberto for the words you used to formulate this question... Life in the countryside, every day! Every day I wake up and am overwhelmed by the beauty and wonder of creation! Ilaria: for me any and all would be fine but in the reverse order! We start from the need to get away from the chaos, passing from a change of life to a leap in quality!

Francesco is a goldsmith, Ilaria an architect! How do these two professions combine in a town like Campiglia Marittima, in a Tuscany that is not just tourism? Ilaria: in everyday life! Being an architect means being able to take care of anything independently! Francesco: returning to an original passion accompanied by daily sobriety! Being a goldsmith in a town with medieval origins combines with the ancestral rhythms of the place What is a goldsmith and what is a farmer for Francesco Corsi? And why did you combine these two professions into a single way of life? Francesco: they are both artists because creating with earth or with the precious metal, gold is the same thing! It’s a question of love...I’m a very lucky man, I have the opportunity to live to the fullest of what I do even if this choice involves many sacrifices! What does gold mean to a goldsmith besides being a precious metal? Francesco: gold is magic! I don’t know what it means for other goldsmiths, for me it has a great power of attraction and then in gold, there is the whole history of humanity, like knowledge! What does an architect do whose idea of architecture is solely the artistic elaboration of the structural elements of Nature?

Ilaria: beyond the house in which Francesco and I live with the whole family, the vegetable gardens, the chicken coops, a tree house, and all the outdoor spaces, even the dog’s kennel which isn’t there!... When I look at Nature I don’t there is anything to architect, Nature is already perfect like this, there has already been a superior architect who has already architected everything that could be created in Nature! What do you learn by living in the green countryside, with its noises and sounds, its seasons, and its landscapes in a Nature that does not have the speed of technology but the progress of human speed? Francesco: when you look at Nature and listen to its sounds, you cannot help but identify with the same consciousness that created everything! The beauty of Nature impacts you violently! Living in simplicity means that the wonder that surrounds you is self-sufficient! Ilaria: you learn to breathe, to observe, and you understand the cycle of your life and the transience of the human being! Then there is the observation of the night sky, the celestial vault with its stars and constellations, and the reconnection with your spiritual being! So the idea of being independent from everything around you is not solely a choice but a purpose! How to become independent in a society that seems to no longer be able to do without subordination and sometimes even servitude? Francesco: the search for independence is the attempt to always keep in mind what you asked us as a question! Total independence is a chimera, the important thing in this journey towards autonomy is to deviate from what this society wants to make of us! Ilaria: Independence is a very difficult goal to achieve, the most important thing is to realize that everything we do has an impact! It is essential to learn not to waste and reduce needs to a minimum! After that, you can start planning a form of independence!

37

How do you plan to achieve this independence? Francesco and Ilaria: we produce oil, this year we started growing a modest quantity of ancient grains with which we will make flour and pasta, we have a vegetable garden and we are building a chicken coop! For energy, a photovoltaic system and wood from our forest! We are also planning the renovation of part of the property to use it for hospitality, therefore for conscious tourism! I know you have three daughters, how do they live this experience? rancesco and Ilaria: we try to leave them as much freedom as possible to ensure that they can have all their experiences in an environment that is still on a human scale! Do you socialize in the countryside? Francesco and Ilaria: we have big parties, we welcome a lot of people, we make pizza with our wood-fired oven in the garden! We like to make our home available to organize events because it is a place for sharing and meeting! It may seem like an obvious question, but what do olive trees represent for you? Francesco: the olive tree is the most generous plant that exists, it receives love and bears fruit, yet it is self-sufficient! Ilaria: the olive tree is the “Genius loci,” the being that embodies the spirit of the place” Living or existing, which of the two life forms is closest to you? Francesco: existing has to do with awareness of everything, living is the act of seeking this awareness! One cannot do without the other! Ilaria: definitely live! Future projects? What do you propose to do in next future? Francesco and Ilaria: Making the places in which we live, our home, and our land more and more beautiful and human in order to counteract the ugliness of a world that surrounds us, an ugliness that is spreading and that people perceive as normality! And how do you imagine the future of humanity? Francesco: The words future and humanity are more closely linked than one might think because, without humanity, there will simply be no future! Ilaria: Imagination is a powerful tool for creation…I try to be positive even if it’s not easy! In reality, I don’t want to imagine the future, we don’t need to widen the field of imagination too much, we need to focus on the simplest and most achievable things! One last question: would you ever go back on your choice to live in the countryside? Francesco and Ilaria: Never!

THINGS GO THIS WAY, IN ONLY ONE DIRECTION

Metropolis THE WRONG ONE!

BY ROBERTO SIRONI Some ideas become reinforced concrete, reflections that go upwards, thoughts that expand visibly, and intuitions that house millions and millions of human beings in strange cages, which we commonly call apartments, within which lives of every kind...beautiful, ugly, wrong, bored, useless... Some facts become misdeeds, generations passing the baton to each other without ever having met, asphalts hosting engines of all kinds. These street lamps have given light to every type of darkness, balconies that no longer have flowers, televisions turned on out of habit and turned off due to melancholy! There are also faces, faces and faces, each in its mask that attempt a glance, a glimpse, secrets hidden in the meanders of an intimacy that no longer has to do with confidences, with nudity, myths, legends, and fairy tales that they flow in the veins of distant suburbs left to their solitude… And there are also human beings, or so it seems, left in humanity, challenging to describe and remember, who still breathe the seed of life in a life that no longer reaps the fruits of that seed... All this is a Metropolis, an existing, existing or non-existent place in which life, like those myths, legends, and fairy tales, flows moment after moment, after day, year after year, life after life! But what life? Metropolis: a place in which oxygen no longer has air to distribute and light struggles to pass through those walls beyond which existences try in every way to continue to exist! But what existence?

THINGS GO THIS WAY, IN ONLY ONE DIRECTION

Metropolis THE WRONG ONE!

Once this place with an indescribable past, chased by amazement, longed for by loves, desired and longed for in every fold of intention, they called it the City, now, in a metamorphosis that goes from invention to the virtual, from the iron to the impossible, this a place whose community was affiliated and united with their dreams, with their loves, has become a space outside of any common sensation of environment, territory, opportunity... There are memories evicted by time and memories that are distanced from their origins, new customs that have swallowed what little remained of a tradition, and feelings that have preferred to go who knows where who knows how... There are new lives to reshape and old vices to restructure! There are ancient footprints to eliminate and futuristic setups to restore! Silence also preferred him to go far away but no one knows where he went to die, perhaps in a meander of the universe in which no voice can enter and no instinct can come to terms with it...

Some sensations have lost their impression, leaving emotions at the top of a missed opportunity... Some speeds have preferred the smell of petrol to the scent of slowness, and now you see them hurtling along the future roads as if they were missiles looking for a destination to reach! But there are also satellite dishes that no longer pick up any messages from elsewhere, and no one knows where they are! Metropolis… Everything, now, is here, in this region of the impossible that has built the imponderable on the foundations of thousands and thousands of civilizations that disappeared among the dust of myths, making those myths particles of nothingness that have now become a solitary and unexpected nothingness! This is the Metropolis...A forest of fuels with human features, a forest that has translated its nature into desert, a scrub in which no fugitives seek refuge anymore! The sounds are noises; the colors are hallucinations; the gestures have become movements, poses, and attitudes all together crowded together, piled up, piled up, in a crowd capable only of swallowing the aperitif of the moment while hordes of killer mosquitoes continually search, they too, veins to be drained, wallets to be emptied! Illusions are for sale, and there is no longer any need to be the highest bidder! And then there are other dreams, those that never come true, other desires left at the bottom of a drawer.preferito le ovvietà alle chimere! There are also new addresses where you can send your dreams, but no postman is willing to deliver any message; the address is unknown, as is the recipient who was once the original protagonist of that stage of life and is now just an extra. In a show where nothing matters! Extras suddenly appeared in a present that had nothing theatrical about it Here is the Metropolis with its magic, its witchcraft, its spells, a little paradise, and a little hell, a little jungle and a little steel, a little natural and a little false, an exceptionally constructed monstrosity for the man of tomorrow! But which tomorrow? Here she is performing in the most incredible architectural show in the world with her presumptions that from underground reach up to the most hidden, unimaginable, unattainable, unspeakable heights! Above the Metropolis, no sky, just a shadow, a dark idea built with violence and arrogance, spread over the fermented lights of an anthill... That idea first massacred and then exterminated everything that could resemble ants and then replaced them with other ants. Still, the latter was more similar to human beings than to insects that were even considered intelligent in previous times! In a Metropolis, intelligence no longer has a place to hide, an intellectual building where it can still talk about humanity, a hiding place, whatever it may be, to seek a way out of ignorance! There are centuries that last moments and moments that chase centuries! Time doesn’t give time to anyone, and while it passes unconditionally and without making the slightest noise, without a jolt, and without the most mystical of sensations, here it goes, leaving behind the idea that the future is the only possible solution to imagine the world, existence, life!

These other utopias have In that parcel of existence; everyone searches for their solution, an enchantment, a reason to make life artificial, and an artificial excuse for not losing the way back now forgotten in previous mistakes! The Metropolis does not forgive, does not absolve from sins, does not acquit any defendant of their existential guilt, does not condone, does not let go, no amnesty, and no grace! The Metropolis punishes, punishes, and condemns those who do not admit its intrusive existence, does not forget the rebels, and does not pity the naive! In his world, the clock of life always strikes simultaneously, a time that is not regulated by seconds but by memory gaps!

Inside, there are the dreamers, the idealists, and the deluded who have not found a way out, prisoners of a present imprisoned and never escaped from every reality, detained and imprisoned in thoughts that now leave the time they see, when and where it is they find, that is, never! In the Metropolis, there are no castles in the air, chimeras are mirages, and mirages are no longer human virtues! The roofs are dark, the bridges have disappeared, the rivers have let the water flow towards a non-existent sea, and the museums have collapsed under the devastating blows of a power that has turned ignorance into artificial intelligence! Fallen, plunged into an unprecedented abyss, the last human beings have sought refuge in the catacombs of a literature that no longer has any god to pray to, no faith to believe in honestly, no myth to chase! Sadness, now, is a laugh that no longer has lips to dance on, to woo, nor teeth to show; it is a grimace that has lost its original meaning and wanders on people’s faces as the straggler wanders between a non-existent horizon and a panorama that never really existed! And then there are the regrets for not understanding, the lost things for having understood them, the nostalgia for not understanding what we should have understood, the disappointments for having wasted the opportunities to understand, and the regrets for having realized that we had understood nothing! Understanding is like dying when you grasp the truth, even briefly! It is a penance to be paid when one perceives intuitions never sensed before indulgence to show, an excuse to invoke, or justification to adduce; we can only admit that in a not-soremote time, we first mystified and then confused being with having … In the Metropolis, things go like this, in only one direction, the wrong one! Everyone in their cage, behind their bars, inside a world that has fallen into an even smaller world, slipped into another world that has become practically invisible! And then this is how we find ourselves!

We find ourselves like animals imprisoned in a story that does not belong to us but belongs to us by right or duty for not having had the courage to cross the river of audacity. This river never goes to die in the sea but to live in the legend! This is how errors are built, brick by brick, misunderstanding after misunderstanding, aberration after aberration, sin after sin, and the sum of these sins of indifference is the bill we have to pay to fate, to destiny, or if you want to fate, you choose which of the three options makes you most unhappily satisfied! There are unique places in the imagination that no one has ever seen or reached! They are places that have no past, do not correspond to any present, and do not recognize the future! They are spaces in which true and false do not exist, good and evil are not in opposition, black and white have other things to do than listen to gray and hate and love each other without restraint, embracing each other the times that one of us needs the other! Those places do not exist in reality, but only in an unreality which little by little, with our collaboration, is transforming into truth, a truth which has built skyscrapers, dug into the depths of the earth, erected monuments to money and plundered the last nobility of dignified poverty! Metropolis: reality or legend? Myth or obvious? Those places that we have imagined so much are now here to delude us that progress is the only possible way to reach civilization, the path to reach our complete definition of humanity! Here is the Metropolis with all its unimaginable and astonishing wonders that dazzle the eyes but never warm the heart! This far-fetched vision will give us an opinion without any past, an ascertained present, and an imaginary future! There are moments in which one writes for pleasure, others for need, still others for necessity, and others to please others... But there are moments in which one writes only out of melancholy, a melancholy that you can only experience in the most forgotten and distant suburbs, sentimental ones in which thoughts finally embrace consciousness, and that embrace is nothing other than the regret of not having truly experienced Nature! And the Metropolis? It’s just a city that died a moment before being alive!

Love bombing

Unmasking its Impact and Protecting Yourself

48

IM ITALIAN MAGAZINE

ARTICLE BY - SUSANNA CASUBOLO The expression love bombing was coined by the American psychologist Margaret Singer to describe the behavioral models used to carry out plagiarism, manipulation, and conditioning by religious sects, institutions, or professionals towards the victims, young recruits or neophytes, who are inundated with attention, flattery, verbal seductions, and bodily contacts full of affection, all aimed at making them feel special and unique, the most loved in the universe. This behavior is aimed at creating emotional dependence on the victim’s part. This is a deliberate strategy that is implemented from the first phase of acquaintance; once the relationship is consolidated, for the victim, there will be a slow and inevitable process of devaluation, which will throw him into desperation and impotence, in this way, he will be completely controllable and submissive. Currently, love bombing is mentioned above all about pathological narcissistic subjects who use this method to gain control over their partner by exploiting their vulnerability and keeping them in a position of emotional dependence: they begin a relationship or interaction with an extremely high level of flattery, gifts, compliments and demonstrations of affection and love to make the victim feel like the center of attention.

Make her believe that you are sincerely interested in her/him; however, once the victim is emotionally and psychologically involved, he begins to show less pleasant character traits, such as disinterest, lack of empathy, or even manipulative and abusive behavior, which can lead to confusion and insecurity, until to reach severe emotional stress.

49

“ THE

NARCISSIST

The love bomber in the first meeting phase of the relationship overwhelms the victim, the wave of attention, kindness, and care carrying out the first act of enticement and courtship to allow the victim to develop an emotional, psychological, and biochemical dependence. The grandiose gestures of love, the gifts, the constant compliments, and the enormous promises for everyday life to be shared are tools for manipulation accompanied by declarations of eternal love. It almost seems like the other half of the apple has finally arrived to complete the missing half. The woman or man of dreams comes to fulfill every desire: if there is a passion for travel, he will be a citizen of the world; if there is a desire for a family, the marriage proposal will arrive immediately; if there is a career-ready, he too will be a rampant professional.

The narcissist wants to become the victim’s only source of emotional nourishment, isolating her from her emotional context of reference to control and dominate her. All this creates an emotional dependence on the part of the victim, who will feel enticed by the glorious and illusory scenarios offered. The narcissist’s promises are deeply connected to the needs of the victim, and this is why the latter is ready to endure any abuse, devaluation, or harassment in the hope that those promises will be kept in the future. The phases that follow one another in the relationship with a narcissist are idealization, in which the relationship seems like a dream, the most beautiful one ever had, in which there is an overabundance of love. Everything seems perfect, even too much. You feel flattered, and even if some doubts appear, they are thrown away because the emotions you feel are so strong and beautiful that you don’t want any clouds to cover that sun that radiates so much energy. There may be small short circuits that are not given importance. Indeed, one feels guilty even just doubting the authenticity of the other. In the next stage, there is evaluation, a rapid change in mood and attitude. The narcissist appears distant and cold at times, without any apparent motivation. Emotional abuse also arises; devaluing gestures and unmotivated criticism confuse the victim. The dream of a loving partner gives way to the figure of a controlling and angry partner. The victim feels betrayed, deceived, and disoriented; she tries to regain that attention from her partner, who made her feel unique and essential in the past. Then comes the gap, where the narcissist abruptly distances himself from the relationship and disappears. What is striking is the cynicism and coldness that replace the love and promises of a short time ago; this disorientates the victim, who remains tied to happy and beautiful memories. Recovery or recapture comes immediately afterward. In this phase, love bombing can re-emerge to make amends and win back one’s victim. On the one hand, the latter will feel confused and afraid that the waste could come back to haunt her. On the other, she will be flattered and loved and would like to believe in the authenticity of the actions she witnesses to confirm that initial idyll from which she was taken.

WHY DO VICTIMS FALL INTO THE PATHOLOGICAL NARCISSIST’S NET? The initial idealization of the relationship in which the victim feels wanted, admired, and unique can create a strong emotional connection and make her feel valued in ways that may have been lacking in other areas of her life. The unsatisfied need for affection and attention can lead to love bombing, feeling like the refreshment of cool water in a hot desert, which creates an emotional dependence on the source of these rewards. Speed characterizes the entire attachment process, manipulation makes the victim feel confused and insecure, doubting their perceptions, needing only approval from the narcissist. This state of vulnerability, aggravated by possible past experiences of trauma, abandonment, or low self-esteem, makes victims more susceptible to manipulative tactics and inclined to desperately seek affection and approval, even at the cost of ignoring warning signs.

hen the narcissist’s behaviors become more negative, and isolation, control, and abuse arrive, the victim justifies or minimizes the harmful behavior; after experiencing the initial intense affection, the victim fears losing it if he questions or abandons the narcissist, this fear can hold him back even when the relationship becomes harmful because in his heart he always hopes that the narcissist will change or return to the initial loving behavior, this hope is fueled by the memory of the positive phases of the relationship. The isolation from friends and family that the narcissist targets makes it more difficult for the victim to seek support or view the situation objectively.

WHAT BEHAVIORS CAN BE OBSERVED AS INDICATORS OF LOVE BOMBING? •receiving expensive gifts from your partner too early in the relationship • receiving exaggerated compliments from your partner at a stage in which your knowledge has not yet been deepened • being bombarded by messages and calls from your partner • seeing the other move too quickly towards commitment compared to the relationship stage, seeing him enthusiastically express deep feelings too soon • being subjected to requests for exaggerated attention from others, which in order to be fulfilled require deprivation of contact with one’s friends and family • seeing your partner express affection and admiration in public in an exaggerated manner

S

uppose you are a victim of a love bombing or have recognized the situation of someone in a situation of this kind. In that case, the only possible solution is to ask for help and look for a professional to refer to. Getting help is the only way to rebuild your self-image, strengthen your resources, and escape the state of helplessness. EMDR therapy in these cases can be of great help because, in addition to working on the trauma of psychological abuse, it identifies the resources to be strengthened for the individual and helps him to emerge from the state of confusion, concentrate on his actual needs and perceive, becoming aware of it, the state of toxicity of the relationship in which he was entangled. By managing to heal our wounds, we can experience ourselves in a functional relationship where we can feel loved.

The Enduring Legacy of the Italian Community in Los Angeles’

N

estled within the diverse tapestry of Los Angeles lies a vibrant Italian community, whose rich history and cultural impact have shaped the city’s identity. From the early pioneering days to the present, the Italian community in Los Angeles has left an indelible mark through their contributions in cuisine, art, music, and traditions. This blog post aims to delve into the roots of this community, highlighting its growth, prominent individuals, and organizations that have propelled its success. We will also explore how Italian culture has shaped the community’s identity, detailing its challenges and triumphs in maintaining traditions while adapting to a new environment. The Italian community in Los Angeles finds its origin deeply rooted in the waves of Italian immigrants who arrived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Coming mainly from regions like Sicily, Abruzzo, and Tuscany, these men and women sought a better life across the Atlantic Ocean. By the early 1900s, Los Angeles witnessed a steady influx of Italians, leaving their footprints in neighborhoods like Little Italy and San Pedro, which acted as epicenters of their cultural presence. The community owes a significant debt of gratitude to a host of individuals and organizations who spearheaded its growth. One such figure is Antonio Tony Cornero Stralla, an Italian native who became a prominent bootlegger during the Prohibition era, thereby shaping the landscape of Los Angeles nightlife. Alongside him stood the Unione Italiana, a community organization established in 1929, which sought to support and uplift Italian immigrants in the city. These individuals and groups laid the groundwork for future generations to build upon. Cuisine:

No exploration of the Italian community in Los Angeles is complete without mentioning its gastronomic delights. From venerable Italian-American restaurants such as Miceli’s and Dominick’s, to the authentic trattorias that dot the city, Italian cuisine has been a cornerstone of the community’s identity. The Italian culinary scene in Los Angeles now boasts Michelin-starred restaurants, celebrity chefs, and authentic regional cuisine, inviting residents and visitors alike to indulge in the flavors of Italy. Art and Music: Italian artistic contributions have not been limited to the culinary realm. Numerous Italian-American artists and musicians have left their mark on the cultural fabric of Los Angeles. Ricardo Montalbán, celebrated Mexican-American actor, was born to Italian parents and went on to have a successful career in Hollywood. Meanwhile, traditional Italian music festivals such as the San Gennaro Feast provide a platform for both Italian and non-Italian Angelenos to celebrate Italian music, dance, and culture. Traditions and Challenges: Maintaining traditions while adapting to a new environment has been a delicate balancing act for the Italian community in Los Angeles. While some customs have evolved or been integrated into the city’s multicultural landscape, popular events such as the Festa di Santa Rosalia and the Pasadena Bocce Club have endured. The community has tackled challenges related to preserving the Italian language, generational shifts, and the dispersion of the community throughout the city. However, it has successfully overcome these hurdles with the establishment of institutions like the Italian American Museum of Los Angeles.

The Period of the Renaissiince hjis ever been so attractive to the historian that many learned volumes have been written on the subject, and it has bmn illustrated by much brilliant eloquence. An army of patient students have devoted long years to serious research, in hunting out forgotten treasures buried in foreign libraries, archives, chronicles, diaries, and letters innumerable. Yet I venture to hope that there may still be room for a modest attempt to bring some of these vast stores of knowledge - more especially as they touch upon woman’s life - within reach of those readers who have no leisure for profound and special study. This complex legacy presents a nuanced view of the mafia’s influence, forcing us to confront the intertwining web of good and evil they leave behind.

The Early Years: The Italian mafia’s roots trace back to 19th-century Italy, where secret syndicates known as “mafiosi” operated throughout the country. However, it was in the late 19th and early 20th centuries that waves of Italian immigrants brought this criminal enterprise to American shores. Settling primarily in New York City, these immigrants sought protection, a sense of community, and opportunities for prosperity. Little did they know that their desire for unity would give rise to one of the most significant criminal organizations in U.S. history. The Rise and Influence: Initially, the Italian mafia primarily focused on illegal gambling, extortion, and labor racketeering. However, as the years progressed, the mafia expanded its operations to bootlegging during Prohibition, leading to substantial profits and increased influence. Under the reign of notorious figures such as Al Capone and Frank Costello, the mafia gained control over several sectors, including unions, construction, and the entertainment industry.

The mafia’s illicit activities expanded over time, incorporating illicit gambling, loansharking, drug trafficking, and prostitution. The creation of international drug networks allowed the mafia to control significant segments of the narcotics trade, leading to a surge in their wealth and power. Their criminal activities often had severe consequences for both individuals and society, perpetuating cycles of violence and corruption. Law Enforcement Response: The U.S. government, recognizing the detrimental impact of the mafia, initiated various campaigns to combat its influence. The establishment of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act in 1970 enabled authorities to prosecute entire criminal organizations, levying severe penalties and dismantling their infrastructures. Additionally, the formation of specialized task forces, such as the Organized Crime Strike Force, aimed to disrupt the mafia’s operations and bring its members to justice. Real-life Stories and Impact:

A Complex Legacy:

The Italian mafia’s history, influence, and impact on the United States are as complex as they are unforgettable. This criminal organization has permeated society for over a century, leaving an indomitable imprint. By examining their origins, illegal deeds, law enforcement’s response, and real-life stories, we gain a holistic understanding of the mafia’s implications. Such knowledge fosters awareness of this pervasive problem and ignites a dialogue to dismantle its detrimental reign once and for all.

he essence of a romantic dream: On a night of calm and quiet, I had a dream that left me an indelible impression. We should keep alive the flame of hope that drives us to look for the company of someone who makes us happy, despite all the imperfections of life. What I dreamed of is a representation of what many people seek in relationships: perfect perfection. It is precisely this imperfection that makes us human and allows us to grow and learn from mistakes. We want unconditional love, kindness in relationship and beauty that can illuminate even the darkest corners of our lives. After all, the beauty of love lies in the fact that it can grow and become even stronger, even if it is not perfect. He was a magnetic person, emanating an enviable calm and serenity. In a world full of errors and insecurities, the desire to build authentic relationships should never fade away. But that doesn’t mean we have to stop looking for an authentic and complete love. The dream: I crossed a surreal and charming landscape, full of vibrant colors and magical places. This embodied perfection represents our incessant search for a healthy and complete relationship. However, this does not mean that we must stop wanting and improving ourselves in relationships. Yet, despite its apparent perfection, I realized that there is much more behind the external aspect. Reflections: While I was immersed in this dream, I realized that this perfect woman was a reflection of the deepest desires of the human being. Ideal perfection is an unreachable mirage that cannot exist in reality. He had a contagious laughter and the ability to listen carefully. We must try to cultivate love, kindness and mutual support, while accepting the imperfections of the other. The perfect woman: But his beauty was just the tip of the iceberg. In this fairytale scenario, I met a woman who seemed to come from another world. She was lovely, with a radiant beauty that enchanted anyone watching her. The lived lives It is a moment of friendship, an hour of sadness in which you relive the past with a sense of melancholy and a small amount of regret. You find comfort in the fact that the past is always waiting for you, even if the present is unsuitable for your situation. Slutty death is granted to everyone without shame! by Fabrizio Catalfamo ( F. Guzzardi)

hrough irony, philosophers seek to underline the fragility and limitedness of our existence, offering a way to face death with courage and fearlessness. Ironic portrait of death according to the greatest philosophers Death is a topic that fascinated and prompted philosophers to reflect for centuries. According to many philosophers, death must be faced with a certain sense of irony, since it puts us in front of the absurdity of life and our own finitude. The ironic portrait of death according to the greatest philosophers reflects the awareness of the absurdity and inconsistency of human life. This ironic approach to death can be seen as a way to try to lighten the weight of the end, offering a lighter perspective on an otherwise tetro subject. An ironic vision of death can provide an alternative to more traditional interpretations and help us make sense of our lives, even in view of the inevitable end. Death is seen as a sort of awakening, a call that makes us focus on here and now, making us aware of our being in the world. Nietzsche argued that irony and smile are powerful weapons that can help us face death with courage and fearlessness. Karl Marx, for example, highlighted how death is an instrument of control and domination of the ruling class on the working class. The awareness of the insigibility of the human being in the context of the cosmos can lead to accept death as an integral part of life itself. Through the alienation caused by work, the individual is detached from his own life, and so death becomes only another form of exploitation and oppression. According to him, death has no intrinsic meaning in itself, but we give it meaning through our interpretation. Another philosopher who offered an ironic vision of death is

also Martin Heidegger. We live our lives in sight of death, and it is only as mortals that we can give value to what surrounds us. One of the philosophers who explored this ironic portrait of death is Friedrich Nietzsche. This colorful and joyful holiday follows the belief that the dead return to the earth to visit their loved ones and that it is a moment of celebration rather than sadness. This festival is a moment of union between the living and the dead, and allows people to communicate with the spiritual world. The Day of Death (Dia de los Muertos) is a feast held on 1 and 2 November, in which families gather in the cemeteries to honor their dead. For these communities, celebrating death is a form of honoring the passage of souls to another dimension, allowing the living to feel closer to their dear deceased. These cultures have developed unique rituals and traditions to honor the dead and face death in an open and festive way. However, there are some communities and groups that embraced death as a moment of celebration rather than mourning. Participants believe that spirits return to each other only if they feel their presence and their power. During the feast, families prepare food, clothing and money, which are burned as a way to send these objects to the spirits in the afterlife world. This feast is held in August or July, depending on the region, and it is believed that during this period the souls of the dead return among the living. In South Africa, among the Zulu, death is celebrated with the festival of Amadlozi, which usually takes place between September and October. A characteristic feature of this festival is Bon Odori dance, where people wear traditional clothes and dance to honor their dead. The cultures that celebrate death embraced a different approach to this subject that often frightens

people. The Obon is a moment of family reunion, thanksgiving and entrusting souls to the universe. These celebrations are a way of keeping alive the memory of the dead, handing down traditions and family stories from one generation to another. This holiday is a way to honor the dead and allow them to communicate with the living. Death in Catholic Countries: Religious practices and traditions accompanying death offer comfort and support to people in mourning, helping them develop pain and hope for a future life full of love and joy. Death is a theme deeply embedded in religious culture and traditions in Catholic countries. Burial in a sacred place is considered a way to honor the deceased and show respect for the sacredness of life and death. The feast is a mixture of worship and celebration of life and is lived with great joy. Religious rituals and practices in the final days of life are characteristic of Catholic countries. The family and friends of the deceased person gather to pray for his soul during the Mass. The resurrection of the dead and the existence of a paradise are two beliefs that support this concept. Catholic people have faith in life after death, and it gives them comfort. The funeral Mass is a ceremony a priest performs to comfort people in mourning and pray for the deceased’s soul. Death in Catholic countries is a time of reflection on faith and spirituality. The idea of death is seen as a transition to another form of existence in these communities. The Catholic doctrine teaches the beginning of a new life in the afterlife. Crossing, statues, and other religious depictions enrich the tombs as a sign of faith and hope. During this holiday, families decorate altars for departed ancestors, adorned with flowers, foods, and objects they loved.

Buddhism has a unique approach to death and the afterlife. Buddhist countries deeply understand the cycle of life and the impermanence of all things. The period after death is essential for the deceased person’s journey to their next life. Death is seen as a part of the eternal cycle of life and not an end. Thailand, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, and Tibet have fascinating funeral customs and rituals that reflect their Buddhist majority. Tibetan Buddhists believe in an intermediate state called the Bardo, which is after death. The monks were essential during this time, offering the deceased’s family spiritual support. The body becomes ashes and returns to the earth in cremation. The process after death can be more complicated in Tibet. The Bardo guides the deceased through their final journey to the next life. The impermanence of all things is a reminder that ashes are placed in stupas or taken to sacred sites. Merit-making is a practice that helps the deceased with their spiritual journey. On the anniversary of a loved one’s death, Buddhist countries offer food and money to monks. The deceased is dressed in white robes which symbolizes purity and rejection of worldly attachment. Italy Exploring the Formation and Policies of Italy’s Government under Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s Leadership by IM Italian team

Italy has witnessed a significant political shift with Prime Giorgia Meloni, leader of the rightwing party Fratelli d’Italia (Brothers of Italy), assuming power. Meloni’s rise to Italy’s highest political office signals a departure from the country’s recent political trends. This blog post aims to provide an informative overview of Meloni’s political background, analyze her ideology and policy agenda, and explore potential impacts and challenges her government may face.

b. Social Fabric: While some applaud Meloni’s emphasis on Italian identity and traditional values, potential challenges regarding social cohesion and inclusivity may arise. Critics argue that her nationalist approach may marginalize ethnic, religious, and sexual minorities. Striking a balance between nationalistic policies and inclusivity remains an important consideration. c.International Relations:

1. Giorgia Meloni: A Political Background: Giorgia Meloni’s political career began at a young age, serving as the national coordinator of the youth wing of the National Alliance party. She later served as the Minister of Youth in Silvio Berlusconi’s government when she was just 32 years old. Meloni’s political upbringing has shaped her assertive and nationalistic stance, inspiring robust policies aimed at safeguarding Italian identity and sovereignty.

Meloni’s skepticism towards the European Union, coupled with her emphasis on Italian sovereignty, may affect the country’s relationship with EU member states. Potential challenges include negotiations on issues such as EU fiscal policies, migration, and Italy’s role in shaping the Union’s future direction. Striving for open dialogue and collaboration will help navigate these challenges effectively.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s rise to power signifies a significant political shift in Italy. By understanding her political background, ideology, and policy agenda, we gain insight into the potential impacts and challenges her government may face. While her nationalist agenda aims to strengthen the Italian economy, social fabric, and international influence, striking a balance between nationalistic policies and inclusivity will be essential for longterm success. By analyzing potential consequences and utilizing historical and expert insights, this blog post aims to provide readers with an informed, objective overview of Italy’s new government under Meloni’s leadership.

4. Case Studies: 2. Ideology and Policy Agenda: a. Immigration Policy: Meloni’s political ideology aligns with the principles of conservative nationalism. Her policy agenda emphasizes immigration control, economic protectionism, traditional family values, and a strong central government. Meloni advocates for stricter border controls to curb illegal immigration, lower taxes to boost economic growth, pro-life measures, and a revision of the European Union’s role in Italian affairs.

Meloni’s government plans to implement tougher immigration policies, aiming to prioritize Italian citizens. An example of this is the proposed revision of the previous government’s humanitarian protection category, which granted residency permits to migrants. This shift may have consequences on Italy’s demographic dynamics, labor market, and international reputation.

3. Potential Impacts and Challenges: b. Economic Protectionism: a. Economic Impact: Meloni’s proposed economic policies, including tax cuts and protectionism, may cause short-term growth. However, economists express concern about the long-term consequences, such as increased public debt and limited foreign investments. Balancing the desired economic growth with sustainable financial strategies will be a crucial challenge.

The Meloni government intends to pursue protectionist policies by promoting domestic industries and discouraging outsourcing. While protecting domestic companies may create job opportunities, there is a risk of decreased competitiveness in the global market. A balanced approach that safeguards domestic interests while maintaining international competitiveness will be pivotal.

In addition, it is important to establish uniform service standards between all Italian consulates and create monitoring and control mechanisms to ensure transparency and prevent abuse for the the lack of a clear and timely communication between the consulates and the Italian citizens creates further difficulties. Moreover, due to budget cuts, consulates often do not have enough funds to provide quality services and adequately respond to the needs of citizens. One of the main problems affecting the Italian consulates is the lack of human and financial resources. Italian consulates are fundamental institutions for Italian citizens living abroad, offering assistance and support in different areas. Many Italians abroad complain that they do not receive adequate answers to their questions or are left unaware of important information regarding their status or administrative procedures. This poor communication can create anxiety and uncertainty among citizens who are already in a disorientation situation to live in a foreign country. Often, the consulates do not have enough staff to cope with the amount of work and the different needs of Italian citizens. This can cause significant problems for Italian citizens, for example in the case of an urgent passport for work or emergency reasons. Often, procedures and policies can vary considerably from one consulate to another, causing confusion and discomfort for Italian citizens. Italian citizens are often not aware of the rights and procedures at their disposal or how they can file a complaint or complaint. Italian consulates play a crucial role in providing assistance and support to Italian citizens abroad.

Flash Giorgia Meloni has beensomething of a surprise for skeptics. She was expected to be a firebrand like Hungary’s Viktor Orban. She wanted to become the first populist-right leader to forge a genuine Pan-European alliance. If she succeeds, it could change the game in the city forever. Meloni has toned down her anti-EU language. She has been pro-Ukraine and speaking out against Berlusconi’s pro-Russia statements. It is rare for populist-right European leaders to get along well with United States President Joe Biden. The prime minister has taken on a decidedly anti-China edge, recently announcing Italy would withdraw from Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative. The approval ratings for Meloni in Italy have reached 57 percent. Her healthy relations with the EU have made her a compromise winner on critical issues. Her reception across the Continent has vastly differed from that of other populist-right leaders like Orbn, Polish Prime Minister Morawiecki, or former Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jana. Meloni has undertaken a different strategy despite being at the same end of the spectrum. The others could be called small nationalists because of their nationalism. The small nationalism that they have had made them successful at home, has rendered a unified right-wing Pan-EU coalition impossible. The small nationalists could wave at one another and smile. They always put their states first and have never really wanted to reform Brussels, as they consider it a nuisance. A brief look at her history may explain why she has taken a different tack. Meloni was elected, and much attention was given to her youthful fascination with J.R.R. Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings.” The tale of various nations fighting one evil influenced how the prime minister views the world today. Meloni confirmed that she draws a connection between Middle-earth and Europe. This informs her belief in what could be called Western nationalism. The survival and flourishing of Western civilization is the goal of Western nationalism, which is new to the

ture without support from both Washington and Brussels. This is how she explained her actions, from her support for Ukraine to her support for traditional ideas of family in Italy. Cynics may argue that Meloni is doing this to survive politically and not out of a Western nationalist belief. The argument fails when it is noted that her party is a member of the European Conservatives and Reformists, not the Identity and Democracy group. She may achieve results by working closely with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, a populist on the right. The EU is not a threat but aifier of the West, according to Meloni. Moderate groups like the European People’s Party and even the centrists may find a coalition with a strengthened ECR viable after the elections. Her foreign minister and deputy mentioned the possibility when they met with the Czech Prime Minister. The Parliament has been governed by a coalition of the center-right and center-left. A center-right coalition in the vein of Meloni would be an earthquake in EU politics. As the EU elections get closer, the EU should take notice.

Italy’s Meloni covers unpaid bill of tourist ‘idiots’ in Albania In an unusual diplomatic move, Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni settled a restaurant bill of four Italian tourists who left a restaurant in Albania without paying. Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama raised the issue with his Italian counterpart while Meloni was visiting Albania with her family last week. The incident reportedly took place in Berat, which sits on the Osum River. Meloni responded by telling her ambassador to “go and pay the bill for these idiots,” Italian paper La Stampa reported. The bill amount to around €80, according to the BBC.

Putin on Trump: Criminal Charges Are Politically Motivated In recent years, former President Donald Trump has faced accusations and criminal charges often met with speculation and skepticism. Vladimir Putin’s perspective on Donald Trump’s criminal charges highlights the contentious nature of these allegations and brings attention to their potential political motivations. Putin, a controversial figure himself, believes that Trump’s criminal charges are nothing more than a politically motivated campaign to undermine the former president and his administration. The potential for chaos and diplomatic instability is significant if world leaders are subjected to politically motivated charges based on vague allegations and unsubstantiated claims. Implications for global politics: Putin’s stance on Trump’s criminal charges resonates primarily due to his belief that this approach signifies a dangerous precedent for international politics. Commissioned by political opponents, including elements within the Democratic Party, this controversial document alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia during the 2016 election. In this context, Putin’s claims of politically motivated charges against Trump must be considered. A matter of selective targeting: While Trump faced intense scrutiny over his alleged wrongdoing, his political opponents seemed to escape similar scrutiny. Putin argues that the investigation became a tool to sustain the narrative of Russian interference in the 2016 election and tarnish Trump’s reputation rather than being solely driven by an unbiased pursuit of truth and justice. Putin’s concern extends beyond his personal opinion about Trump to a broader critique of how political disputes are manipulated through the legal system. He argues that this points to political bias and ulterior motives behind Trump’s legal troubles. Regardless of personal opinions, the discourse surrounding Trump’s charges should emphasize the importance of fairness, due process, and the preservation of international relations. A history of political clashes: Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump’s relationship has been a fascination in recent times due to their mutual admiration. Putin contends there was a clear double standard in play, with Trump squarely in the crosshairs while other political figures were given a rela-

to their aggressive actions and human rights abuses. The agenda primarily focused on mutual exchanges in arms development, including nuclear capabilities, missile systems, and satellite technology.

At the global pariah summit, Putin and Kim Jong Un talk about Escalating Tensions: Ukrainian weapons. Missiles Strike Russia’s Black Sea At the recent global pariah summit, two world Fleet in Crimea leaders, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un, engaged in discussions revolving around weapons technology and satellite advancements. As these two leaders discuss weapons and satellite technology, the world watches with caution, aware of the potential ramifications their actions may have on the stability and security of nations around the globe. Critics argue that any alliance between Putin and Kim Jong Un in weapons and satellite technology poses severe risks to global security. The meeting also delved into satellite technology and its potential applications in military operations.

Cooperation on weapons development and satellite technology could potentially offer mutual benefits to both Russia and North Korea. The transfer of advanced military technology to a regime as volatile as North Korea, known for its human rights abuses and aggressive behavior, could exacerbate regional tensions and encourage further destabilization. Their advanced satellite systems enable them to gather real-time intelligence, monitor potential threats, and coordinate military operations effectively. Additionally, Putin’s administration sees satellite technology as a symbol of national power and a testament to their scientific and technological prowess. On the other hand, Kim Jong Un’s motivations for engaging in satellite technology revolve around bolstering North Korea’s defense capabilities. For Russia, satellite technology has been instrumental in enhancing its military capabilities. The discussions regarding weapons technology were of particular interest, as both parties aim to augment their military capabilities. It is noteworthy that Russia and North Korea have been subject to various international sanctions due

The EU’s concerns regarding China’s subsidies and alleged dumping practices are valid The EU’s concerns regarding China’s subsidies and alleged dumping practices are valid; however, the approach taken by the EU risks provoking an outright trade war rather than resolving the trade imbalances between the two regions. While the EU is aiming to promote clean energy and reduce carbon emissions through its ambitious Green Deal, its stringent regulations and tariffs on EV imports from China have raised concerns and sparked potential tensions between the two economic powerhouses. Additionally, a trade war between the EU and China over electric vehicles can have far-reaching economic consequences for both sides. The European Union (EU) potentially risks a trade war with China over electric vehicles (EVs). However, the EU’s recent trade policies, such as imposing high tariffs on EVs from China, are hindering the growth of this crucial industry within the European market. Engaging in a trade dispute might lead to retaliatory measures from China, disrupting supply chains and harming European industries dependent on Chinese exports. Engaging in a trade war with China over electric vehicles is risky and counterproductive. The EU must seek a more diplomatic and cooperative approach with China rather than risking a full-blown trade war. Instead of imposing tariffs, the EU should consider establishing regulations that ensure fair competition, combat alleged dumping practices, and protect intellectual property rights. By fostering cooperation and finding common ground, the EU can advance its goals of reducing carbon emissions while benefiting from the rapid progress made by the Chinese EV industry. The affordability of Chinese electric vehicles has played a crucial role in driving their popularity in other markets. Chinese manufacturers have produced affordable electric cars and exported them to various countries worldwide. The EU aims to level the playing field and protect its domestic industries, but this protectionist approach might have unintended consequences.

Flash Britain wants to increase its arms exports. Britain, already a leading arms exporter, has strict rules and regulations to ensure that weapons are only sold to responsible and stable nations to prevent them from being used in human rights abuses or conflicts that could contribute to global instability. Critics fear that loosening rules on arms exports could provide more leeway for arms sales to countries embroiled in controversial conflicts. While the government argues that arms exports are strictly regulated and subject to rigorous scrutiny, critics maintain that the impact of these weapons goes beyond mere statistics and profits, with human lives often caught in the crossfire. Some argue that promoting arms exports contradicts Britain’s commitment to promoting human rights and peaceful solutions to conflicts. This decision has been met with both support and criticism, as it raises important questions about the ethics of arms exports and their potential impact on global stability. As a global power, Britain must strike a delicate balance between fostering its defense industry and upholding its commitment to global stability and human rights. The debate surrounding arms exports should spark conversations about the priorities and values that guide a nation’s foreign policy, ultimately shaping its place in the world. Ultimately, the decision to loosen rules and boost arms exports is complex and contentious. The issue of arms exports goes beyond mere economic benefits. The proposed changes to Britain’s arms export regime would directly affect the country’s defense industry, which is already a significant contributor to its economy. Furthermore, selling weapons to certain countries with questionable human rights records can undermine Britain’s reputation on the international stage. For years, human rights organizations have raised concerns about the use of British-made weapons in Saudi Arabia’s military intervention in Yemen, where thousands of civilians have been killed and displaced. Proponents argue that the move would strengthen Britain’s security by establishing lucrative partnerships with strategic allies, making it less reliant on foreign defense equipment and technology.

YEREVAN The Armenian PM says that we can’t rely on Russia to protect us

”We can no longer rely on the traditional security guarantees provided by Russia; the events of recent months have shown that these guarantees are insufficient,” Pashinyan proclaimed, suggesting that a new approach is necessary to ensure Armenia’s security. While the outcome remains uncertain, this shift in policy highlights the growing complexity of global alliances and the need for countries to reassess their strategic interests to adapt to changing circumstances. This declaration raises poignant questions about the delicate balance of power in the Caucasus, a region that has been marred by conflict and territorial disputes for many years. This candid admission comes in the wake of escalating conflict with Azerbaijan and the occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh, a disputed region that has long been a source of tension between the two nations. Pashinyan has emphasized the need for closer cooperation with Western powers, including the European Union and the United States, in order to ensure Armenia’s security and protect its interests. This desire for autonomy extends to Armenia’s security interests, as Pashinyan seeks to assert Armenia’s agency in the face of regional challenges, without being solely dependent on external powers. Secondly, Pashinyan’s call for a new security strategy stems from a desire for greater sovereignty and independence in Armenia’s decision-making processes. In a bold statement that signals a significant shift in Armenia’s foreign policy, the country’s Prime Minister has declared that they can no longer rely on Russia to protect them. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, in his statement, acknowledged the shifting geopolitical dynamics in the region and expressed his concerns over Russia’s ability to protect Armenia’s interests. However, Armenia’s frustration with its Russian ally could mark a significant turning point in the security dynamics of the region. However, recent events have unveiled a growing dissatisfaction within Armenia’s leadership, as the country faces increasing threats from neighboring countries. As the geopolitical landscape in the Caucasus continues to evolve, Armenia’s departure from the reliance on Russian protection has the potential to reshape the region’s delicate balance of power.

The Lithuanian minister’s proposition aligns with ongoing efforts to enhance defense cooperation within the EU, as outlined in the European Defense Fund and Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO). This collaboration would strengthen Europe’s security posture and deepen defense cooperation between the EU and the US. Critics argue that EU member states should prioritize developing their indigenous defense industries to maintain autonomy in decision-making and ensure secure supply chains. Furthermore, greater collaboration with the US would also require strategic alignment between the EU and US defense interests. This proposal comes at a crucial time when the EU seeks to strengthen its defense industry and become more self-reliant. By allowing the US to participate in EU arms deals, member states could benefit from access to cutting-edge technologies and a wider range of military equipment. The US defense industry, one of the largest in the world, possesses a wealth of knowledge, resources, and experience that could be valuable to EU member states. One might question the rationale behind involving the US, as the EU has strived to develop its defense capabilities in recent years. Anušauskas highlights the need for closer ties between the EU and the US, given the latter’s robust defense industry and advanced weaponry. These initiatives aim to strengthen the EU’s capacity to handle security challenges by pooling resources and fostering a more integrated approach to defense. By involving the US, the EU could amplify these efforts and create a more formidable defense infrastructure. The EU must continue strengthening its defense capabilities to address emerging challenges effectively. While this may pose challenges, it also presents an opportunity for transatlantic partners to foster greater understanding and convergence in their approach to global security.

membership for Ukraine. Von der Leyen’s backing for Ukraine’s EU membership marks a turning point in the relationship between the two entities. Von der Leyen’s statement also highlights the broader strategic importance of Ukraine. Ukraine has long struggled for independence, and its desire for European integration stems from a desire to align itself with democratic principles and secure a stable and prosperous future. The European Commission’s support should catalyze positive change, but it is ultimately up to Ukraine to implement and address necessary reforms. This move opposes Russia’s actions and strengthens the EU’s strategic position in Eastern Europe. This support from the European Commission sends a strong message of acknowledgment and encouragement to Ukraine, cementing its position as a vital partner for the EU. As a large country with a population of over 40 million, Ukraine represents a significant market and a potential source of economic growth for the European Union. This is a significant move for the European Union and Ukraine, highlighting the increasing importance of the Eastern European nation in European affairs. Additionally, Ukraine’s geographical location is a crucial buffer zone between the EU and Russia, making stability in the region paramount for European security.

Paris Macron’s recent actions have proven that he is not afraid to reassess his position and take bold steps towards ensuring the security and sovereignty of Ukraine. Macron’s evolving approach serves as a reminder that diplomacy and strong leadership can pave the way for lasting peace and stability in the region. French President Emmanuel Macron has been making waves in his approach to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, slowly but boldly shifting his stance on the matter. He has advocated for a more assertive and proactive approach to international affairs, aiming to position France as a key player on the global stage. As the conflict in Ukraine continues, world leaders must uphold the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity while actively seeking a peaceful resolution. This marked a departure from his earlier stance of trying to engage with Russia, showcasing a growing recognition of the need to address the situation in Ukraine firmly. This U-turn is a testament to his commitment to resolving the crisis peacefully and ensuring regional stability. Nevertheless, Macron’s bold stance on Ukraine demonstrates his commitment to peace, security, and respect for international law. Another significant milestone in Macron’s evolving approach to Ukraine was his decision not to invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to the G7 summit 2019. However, this approach initially

seemed to oppose his stance on Ukraine. In the past, Macron has been criticized for not taking a strong enough stance on Russia’s actions in Ukraine. He supported Ukraine’s territorial integrity and called for a peaceful resolution. It also highlights the importance of adaptability in changing dynamics and the willingness to reassess one’s position when necessary.
