It is a distinct honor to contribute to this special 32nd anniversary booklet of the Nile Association of Ontario. As one of the earliest members who enjoyed serving the community with passion for the social and cultural activities, helping others whenever they need help, and today, as President of THE NILE ASSOCIATION OF ONTARIO (NAO), I share tremendous respect for this organization and join with my colleagues, board members, in recognizing it as a foremost Arab Community within Ontario and Canada.
Dr. Mohamed Elhalwagy President The Nile Association of Ontario
The Nile Association of Ontario has enjoyed a distinguished and rewarding partnership with the Arabic communities, Board of Education, and Cultural Organizations over the course of its accomplished history – both with the core organization and through the NAO Foundation. The idea of the NAO was first raised in 1987 by 7 families who were the founders of NAO, and then a board of directors was created from the following people in 1988, Bahaa Khaled, Mohamed El Badawi, Mahmoud El Farnawani, Ibrahim Balbaa, Mamdouh Shoukri, Medhat El Gohary, and Lotfi Salem NAO now has 1500 family members in Ontario, as our membership community has grown, evolved and diversified since our founding more than 32 years ago, so has the necessity for timely, relevant social and cultural activities serving the community. For much of its history, the NAO has demonstrated remarkable continuity and consistency of focus on helping our community. In 2009, my colleagues, Board members Moustafa Naguib, Safaa Naser, Amr Bannis and Fayrouse Hassan, and I had the distinction of expanding the number of families from 550 in 2009 families to 1600 families today. The contribution focused on a adding more distinguish prominent Social committee members Fifi Elhalwagy, Safaa Nasser, Maha Morsy, Nariman Ali and Janet Mtanos a social and cultural characteristics approach to identifying any cultural, educational, social events and community services throughout the year with monthly services and events. Our events and our services ideas were received by all our members and all new members with appreciation and satisfaction, this approach lends tremendous value to our organization and added as much as twice number of families to reach the 1500 families today. Looking forward, I see a need for more young members to become actively involved to lead our organization with new creative ideas to stay current in the years to come. As a community of educators, practitioners, and business professionals we need to continue to build our organization for our children and our grandchildren with more new ideas and approaches to sustain the advancement of our organization in Ontario and Canada. I would like to take this opportunity to thank and acknowledge all our sponsors for this year: Dr. Medhat Karima, Dr, Azza Hamed, EgyptAir Mr. Ahmed Ramzy, MEDIAinTORONTO Said Henry, Celeste Weddings & Events Lamia Youssef, RamRiddlz, IPG Fathi Abu Farah, IPROREALY Ebtehal Wahdan, Canada Grant Passent Ali. On behalf of NAO membership community, I extend deep gratitude and warm wishes on this milestone occasion to our Board members and our social committee. We look forward to fortifying our relationship and to building the future success of The Nile Association of Ontario hand in hand with dedicated young members.
