DISCOVER EVERYTHING BRAZIL HAS TO OFFER

There is a lot to discover in Brazil. The world already knows Rio de Janeiro, its beautiful landscapes and all the excitement of the city. As a very popular Brazilian song says: “Rio de Janeiro remains beautiful”. The world also knows perhaps not all of it - but some of the beautiful beaches of the Northeast, surrounded by nature, where time seems to go by slowly. The world knows the Amazon and all the charms and mysteries that the destination provides. The world knows one of the Seven Wonders of Nature, the Iguazu Falls, in the southern region of the country as well. Brazil, however, is not only that. A country that has a continental size and a LOT of attractions to offer. If we are talking about beaches, there are still the classics destination like some of the states in the northern region, or even Rio de Janeiro. However, we can’t forget to talk about Santa Catarina in the South region and the beautiful landscapes of the coastline in São Paulo, especially Ilhabela. Even the popular sun and beach destinations have more to offer, for example: Salvador can tell the country’s history in its museums and churches and what shaped the brazilian culture, on the Pelourinho hills. But if we want talk about modern culture, the city of São Paulo is the right place. Art museums and shows are in the DNA of the largest metropolis in the country. Not to mention that the destination is the gastronomic capital of the country, with some of the most renowned restaurants in Latin America. But the state goes beyond that. Adventure tourism in Brotas or Socorro, bucolic landscapes and mountain climate in Campos do Jordão and also beaches set the tone of São Paulo touristic offers. Still in the Southeast, there is no way to forget Minas Gerais, with its typical cuisine and all the art and history that the cities such as Ouro Preto, Mariana and Tiradentes holds. In the Midwest, besides the Mato-Grossense Pantanal, we have Brasilia, a true architectural masterpiece. The Brazilian capital that was built in a thousand days is an invitation to contemplate the works of the famous architect Oscar Niemeyer. In the South, besides our beautiful Falls and the beaches of Santa Catarina, there is Serra Gaucha - a place with an european climate with little touch of Brazilianness. Destinations and unique landscapes await you. Learn a little more about our rich country in the following pages. Enjoy the reading! 4 | MERCADO & EVENTOS | WTM LONDON 2019

Inaugurated in June 2017- with an initial capacity for up to 600,000 passengers per year, the Jericoacora Comandante Ariston Pessoa Regional Airport, has begun a new phase for tourism in the state and the West coast region. With a single weekly flight in the beginning, today already has 12 frequencies per week. Just to get an idea of how many tourist the destination gained since the opening of the new airport, from June 24 to December 31, 2017 (just over six months after its opening), Jericoacoara Regional Airport recorded 27,280 passengers , according to Anac. In the first five months of 2018 alone, traffic increased by 14,69% with 31,288 passengers. Between December 2018 and January 2019, in high season, the airport received 49 domestic flights. In 2018 alone, there were 1,821 landings and takeoffs, with 96,040 passengers. According to Ceará’s Tourism Secretary, Arialdo Pinho, in June 2018 alone, the city of Jericoacoara received 200 thousand tourists more than

According to Governor Camilo Santana, there is not a state in Brazil today that has expanded the number of flights as much as Ceará. The state has gained an international air hub, tripling the number of international flights and is currently working to improve its route network at regional airports such as Jericoacoara and Aracati, which provides access to true paradises on the coast of Ceará.

n the past few years, aviation industry have been growing in Ceará. The positive numbers are the result of a strong investment made by Ceará’s government in a series of structural actions of the state’s equipment, capable of creating new jobs and increasing tourism.

the same period of the year before, a growth of 28%. The considerable increase (if you think about the size of the region) is a direct response of the start of regular flights to Jericoacoara - operated by Gol and Azul from Guarulhos, Confins and Fortaleza airports. Now, almost two years after its opening, the Jericoacoara Regional Airport is preparing to receive its first international flights. Ceará Tourism Office has already begun preparations for the

terminal’s transformation and expects it to be able to receive the flights by the end of 2019. “By the end of the year, we expect to have everything approved to receive international flights. We are currently conducting internal renovations and improving the security with the support of the IRS and the Federal Police, ”said Arialdo Pinho, who also pointed out that the state intends to start obtaining those flights only after authorizations and licenses.

Another airport of the state that has recently gained attention is the Canoa Quebrada Dragão do Mar Regional Airport. With the recognition, the East coast of Ceará now has an important tool to boost tourism in the region, which has the vocation to receive many tourists because of its numerous natural beauties. The airport is already opened and has three weekly flights for now.

The East coast is one of the most popular destinations in Ceará and has been receiving important structural investments that guarantee the necessary support to attract more

and more resources to the region. The East coast expects to register an economic growth with the arrival of the commercial flights. According to Aracati Mayor, Bismarck Maia, the region now has all the right infrastructure to support the business. “With the beginning of commercial flights, these municipalities will be more accessible to the emmiting markets, stimulating tourism - which generates jobs and wealth for the region,” said the mayor.

Operated by Azul Airlines, the flight departs from Recife (PE) on Tuesdays,

Thursdays and Sundays, and midweek departures have connection in Mossoró (RN). In the first days of operation, Azul announced two more extra flights due to the high demand for tickets for the Carnival holiday. During this period, the aircraft had a 90% occupancy.

Canoa Quebrada Beach was discovered - as a tourism attraction - in the 60s and 70s - a time when the site was inhabited only by an indigenous tribe and a few fishermen. Lots of european hippies found an almost inaccessible place with simple and welcoming people. To this day the natives preserve the fishing village with the same houses of the past - all made of clay, which often served as visitors’ accommodation. Since then, the region has maintained its beauty, but its receptive structure has evolved a lot.

EMBRATUR

Tourism is the government’s priority agenda Since Gilson Machado Neto assumed the presidency of Embratur in May, he has been responsible for the implementation of the National Tourism Policy regarding the promotion and marketing support of Brazilian destinations, services and tourism products for the international market. Among its challenges and commitments is the regulation of the sector and the improvement of the environment for tourism development in the country. With a reduced budget, the manager bets on low cost alternatives and prioritizes actions that can build up the sector without burdening expenses. In the interview below, he explains what activities are on Embratur’s agenda for this year. MERCADO & EVENTOS- Embratur announced the priority actions to promote tourism in Brazil and stated that tourism is a government policy these days. However, the Institute’s budget is smaller and smaller each year. How to prioritize actions and achieve the goal of increasing the flow of tourists in the country? Gilson Machado Neto - To meet the Federal Government’s economic guidelines, Embratur has also been looking for low cost alternatives. For the ongoing campaigns, Embratur will count on the support of trade related entities, such as airlines, Tourism Offices, industry associations, Convention Bureau, among others. The transformation of Embratur into an agency is one of the goals of this management, which aims to give more agility, increase revenues, competence and transversality. With a Brazilian Tourism Agency we will have more resources for investments in programmatic media, to directly reach the several types of tourists - by segment. M&E- Establishing partnerships, removing the strings, continuing the visa-free policy, investing in airports and other segments of the sector were some of the actions announced for the promotion of tourism. Can you explain each one a little bit better and what is

Gilson Machado Neto, president of Embratur

already being done in each sector? Gilson Machado Neto - We received the mission to take over Embratur four months ago and we are making changes to achieve better results. Our neighbors, for example Chile, A r gentina, Per u, Par a guay an d Uruguay, have been showing greater and more significant growth than Brazil in terms of international tourism competitiveness. We found an entity without money to invest, with very high accounts and high values contracts as well. In addition to reducing contracts, we are in direct contact with the President of the Republic to raise more resources and to advance the country’s tourism promotion actions. Our first actions were to deal with airline representatives for greater and better connectivity in Brazil. By vetoing the free shipping of luggage on domestic flights, the Government opens the country for new airlines to operate, such as low cost, ending the monopoly practiced by the few companies operating in Brazil. We are, alongside with the Minister of Tourism, dealing with the reduction of airport charges. Aviation is one of the main factors to increase the attraction of tourists. We can not mess with those who helps the economy, we need to “cut the red tape” so that we can bring more investments to Brazil.

M&E- When you took office in May, you said you would invest in more modern and experimental booths for the international fairs. Can this be seen at this year’s fairs? What can we expect and what will Embratur’s performance look like at the fairs? Gilson Machado Neto - Embratur is undergoing a makeover in its visual brand also. Promotional actions, changes in its labels - of international and institutional tourism promotion are being developed. For the next fairs, we expect booths with new images, new videos with the main attractions and Brazilian tourist destinations, as well as virtual reality tools. In partnership with the Brazilian Skydiving Confederation, our intention is to bring virtual reality glasses to the next fairs of the second semester, with a kind of real experience. The visitor will have the sensation of flying over Brazilian cities in a parachute and will be able to feel the impact of the adventure when he puts the VR glasses on. M&E- Ecotourism and South America are also part of Embratur’s priorities. Which projects for these segments are already being designed or are already in motion? Gilson Machado Neto – Brazil is a reference in nature. The World Economic Forum places our country as number one in natural resources, so 16% of the tourists who seek our country for leisure, choose Ecotourism as their main attraction. The new Embratur is a great enthusiast of brazilian Ecotourism. We want to bring more people to our country and we want this experience to be better and better. We want tourists to sail on river cruises, on seas, we want them to fish, to contemplate nature, to observe our flora and fauna. We are gathering private and public entities from the brazilian states to establish a channel for dialogue and information exchange. Our first moves are aimed at sinking ships on the Brazilian coast so that tourists can dive and get to know our marine life.

EMBRATUR

Brazil works on creative actions to promote the country “Brazil Everywhere”. This is Osvaldo Matos, Embratur’s Marketing Director, vision of how Brazil should participate in major tourism fairs and international events. Among the strategies are the creation of an area for Brazil, bringing together all of the state that participate in the fairs independently - not only a Brazil/Embratur’s fair stand. The creation of actions beyond the scope of events are also in the agenda of the new director. The plan foresees gastronomic, cultural and musical activations in the cities where the events takes place, promoting the country outside the fair’s pavillion as well. Osvaldo also talked about establishing Embratur as a “media and events bank” to pool resources for this joint promotion of the country. In an interview with M&E, Matos highlighted these plans, which run into the agency’s restricted budget, and set a promising horizon with the transformation of Embratur into a promotional agency. MERCADO & EVENTOS- Talking about the presence in those big fairs, which will be the main signature of this management? Osvaldo Matos: The fairs are not yet in the shape that we want to, because there are very strong budget limitations, which results in spaces that are not ideal. We want to create interactive and experimental environments in those spaces. Initially Brazil would not participate in any fair, so what we did was to seek resources to make this participation possible in the best way we could within the limitations. From now on, we are thinking of bringing experiences to the fairs with a larger booth, where all states would participate. We want to take the states to create a whole area of Brazil inside the fair, so that visitors who pass through this space can really feel what is going through all the five regions of Brazil. M&E- How would this work? Osvaldo Matos- This idea of combining forces was annoucend and the states welcomed it very well. Some fairs can’t

Osvaldo Matos, director of PR & Marketing at Embratur

relocate the booths, but we’re making an effort, because I find it a waste of money to promote the destinations separately. We want Embratur to become a kind of “media and events bank” so the states can pool their money alongside Embratur’s money to produce more creative and representative actions with Brazil’s particularities.

year, will it happened in the next one? Osvaldo Matos: Maybe this year we won’t be able to make it, due to budget cuts. But the idea is that each fair has a different action. But it all depends on the transformation of Embratur in an agency. If that happens, more resources will come and we can do a much stronger and consistent work.

M&E- The goal is to keep the agenda throughout the year, besides the fair? Osvaldo Matos: Since the fairs take places in strategic cities, we want to make an “invasion of Brazil” in those places, with actions that may have repercussions, that can cause a “buzz” and go viral. Some of these actions will definetly go viral worldwide as we are thinking of ideas that were never made - ever. We are going to put Brazil within the traditions of these countries.

M&E- How is the transformation process going? Osvaldo Matos: We’ve already prepared the project, the president has seen it and sent it to the Secretariat for Legal Affairs (SAJ) for consideration. It’s close to being sent to the Congress as well. We made a small project to create a modern company with other competencies besides international promotion and we will be able to work with public and private sector, including the states. Embratur may provide consultancy, audit, pricing and courses. The agency will have multiple skills.

M&E- Since it wont be possible to make major changes in the booth this

MINISTRY OF TOURISM

President Jair Bolsonaro’s speech at the World Economic Forum, held in Davos, Switzerland, during January had a detail that brought optimism to the tourism sector. In his speech, it was clear the intention to make the sector one of the top priorities of his government. The responsible person chosen for this mission was Marcelo Álvaro Antonio, the most voted federal deputy from Minas Gerais. Despite not having a broad knowledge of the sector, the minister surrounded himself with names of expertise in the area, such as Bob Santos and Aluizer Malab, and met with several segments of the trade to hear their biggest impasses in the sector. That’s how he started to try to solve old impasses of the industry. For nine months in office, the balance can be seen as positive, with victories such as visa-free travel for tourists from the United States, Canada, Australia and Japan, the arrival of low-costs to the country, the development of guidelines such as road tourism, touristic security and the creation of Investe Turismo, an investment program in the country’s tourist destinations. In this path of achievements there are some obstacles ahead such as port infrastructure, high ticket prices, lack of connectivity, among others. The fact is that even with a lot to do, the Ministry of Tourism shows signs that it is aware of all these agendas and challenges. That’s what Minister Marcelo Álvaro Antônio thinks himself - as he evaluates his first year in charge. MERCADO & EVENTOS- The sector has accumulated many victories in this first year of its management, such as the end of visas, the arrival of lowcosts, and the full opening of foreign airlines’ capital voted by Brazil’s lower house of Congress. In addition, Investe Turismo was launched, a program that promises to transform the tourist infrastructure of de s tinations . B as ed on t his scenario, how do you rate this first year and what are the prospects from now on? Marcelo Álvaro Antônio - Tourism lives in 2019 - a year that represents

Tourism enters Brazil’s political agenda

Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, Minister of Tourism

a milestone for the sector. With the election of President Jair Bolsonaro, we have definitely entered the country’s priority agenda and achieved historic advances such as visa-free travel to strategic countries, an industry advocate for about 15 years, the full opening of foreign capital’s airline and the arrival of airlines specializing in low cost tickets. These are some of the pillars that will allow Brazil to narrow the gap between the potential and what have already been done in the country. When we have a firm foundation, the prospects are the best. The first results have begun to appear. In the first half, according to IBGE data, tourist activities grew 3.1% compared to the same period last year. M&E - Investe Turismo initially foresaw an investment of R$ 200 million. With the beginning of the program is it possible to say that this value can be exceeded? Marcelo Álvaro Antônio - Investe Turismo, a partnership of the Ministry of Tourism, Sebrae and Embratur, is in fact one of the largest and most structured programs ever implemented in Brazil. It deals with destinations in a complete way, with actions of promotion, qualification, structuring, benchmarking and creation of several opportunities. The return we have had from those involved in the state states and municipalities - has been the best possible and, therefore, we can

18 | MERCADO & EVENTOS | WTM LONDON 2019

talk about expanding investments. In addition to the R$ 200 million foreseen for the first stage of the program, there are another R$ 300 million that can be applied at a second moment. M&E- After the intense agenda of the first semester and some barriers overcome, what are the immediate priorities of the Ministry of Tourism? What are the short-term priority agendas? Marcelo Álvaro Antônio - In coordination with other cabinets, such as the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Ministry of Tourism has worked to expand access to tourist destinations and allow dif ferent styles of transportation to be able to operate in Brazil properly. We are articulating the construction of a series of ports with passenger and bus terminals. We cannot admit that Brazil, with more than 7.5 thousand kilometers of coastline, has only seven ships per season, when it has already reached 20 back in the days. Other absolute priorities are the reformulation of the sector’s regulatory framework to correct historical distortions and the streng thening international promotion with the modernization of Embratur. The expected number of arrivals from Americans, Australians, Canadians and Japanese is already a good thermometer to indicate the success of the free-visa. Based on this, the exemption is already being studied for other countries that do not have the benefit. Thinking about China, one of the most potential emitting markets, is this exemption already on the radar? Marcelo Álvaro Antônio - Yes, extending visa-free travel is one of the things on our management’s radar. After those first four countries, the idea is to make a gradual process, first implementing the electronic visa to assess issues such as economic impact and migratory risk, in partnership with Itamaraty. Then, with all the necessary subsidies, we can move towards with the visa-free policy.

TAP, AIR FRANCEAND KLM These airlines don’t offer direct flights between London and Brazil, but these European companies offer short connections in their hubs in Lisbon, Paris and Amsterdam, respectively. These flights are considered keyif you are not going to Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo as a final destination and if you need at least one connection. In this case, many prefer to make their connections in Europe before arriving in Brazil. TAP, for example, has flights to all regions of Brazil, while Air France and KLM now have a large hub in Fortaleza, Ceará. OTHER COMPANIES It is still possible to arrive in Brazil with Lufthansa (with connections in Germany), Alitalia (via Rome), Iberia (via Madrid) or Swiss (via Zurich),these flights also arrive in Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo. Air Europa, with a connection in Madrid, besidesSão Paulo, has flights to Salvador, which is another opportunity to reach the Northeast of Brazil. ATTRACTIONS Bahia is the kind of place that we enjoy endlessly. And we start our trip through Salvador. The capital of Bahia is considered historic and maintain buildings and monuments that takes us to the rich past of Brazil. Although there are dozens of attractions nearby, such as the Elevador Lacerda, which connects the upper city to the lower city, and the Central Market, where it is hard to leave without buying anything, the highlight attraction is the Pelourinho, which has a colonial baroque architectural set preserved and is a world heritage site. Going to Bahia and not going to Pelourinho is like going to the butcher shop and not buying meat. Immerse yourself in history and have fun. Another tourist attraction that is almost mandatory is the Farol da Barra, a lighthouse located in the neighborhood of Barra. The beach begins next to the Fort of Santo Antônio da Barra, known as Farol da Barra, where the Nautical Museum

of Bahia is located, and extends itself to the Morro do Cristo, where there is an image of Christ the Redeemer. Almost 600 kilometers from the capital, there is Porto Seguro and Costa do Descobrimento. This part of the bahian coast, on the south, has beautiful beaches, some already popular and some unexplored beaches. Porto Seguro is a city already consolidated in national and international tourism, but it’s worth the experience for those who have never been there or for those who intend to go again. Another great place is Chapada Diamantina, a region full of mountains protected by the Chapada Diamantina National Park, where almost all the rivers basin, such as Paraguaçu, Jacuípe and Rio de Contas, are born. Chapada is a paradise for those who are into ecotourism and adventure tourism. Bahia’s coastline is so extensive that sometimes natural paradises end up not having their true and

deserved prominence in the pages of national tourism. In addition to all its industrial wealth, the city of Camaçari - Bahia, still reserves great surprises for nature enthusiasts and beach lovers. The destination has Parque das Dunas and the Mirante do Cruzeiro, protected springs of the four main water basins responsible for water supply throughout the Metropolitan Region of Salvador and more than 42km of paradisiacal beaches. Camaçari still boasts the Tamar project for the conservation of sea turtles. The highlight is the Guarajuba Beach, which has a complete hotel infrastructure, restaurants and bars. The beach is considered one of the main tourist attractions of Camaçari, any time of the day, due to the crystal clear water, soft white sand and bustling bars of the region.

The Paraíba Museum of Popular Art, also known as the Três Pandeiros Museum, is located on the shores of Açude Velho at Campina Grande city.

JOÃO PESSOA With a wealth of culture, rich historical heritage and paradisiacal landscapes, the state of Paraíba surprises its visitors by offering a large number of unique features. One of them is the most easterly point in the Americas, Ponta do Seixas, near the famous Cape Branco Lighthouse, which at 40m high, offers the most beautiful view of the waterfront and the Atlantic Ocean in the whole region. But the best attraction is the state capital, João Pessoa, considered as one of the most arboreal cities on the planet. Having been distinguished by the Portuguese crown on the date of its foundation, in 1585, it holds the title of third oldest city in Brazil. Colonized between the river and the sea, João Pessoa has built a historical patrimony of rare architectural beauty, preserving it over time as a valuable treasure of Brazilian baroque art. Suffice it to say that the complex formed by the Convent of Saint Anthony and the Church of San Francisco, one of the most beautiful and important baroque monuments in the country, figures in the book “Monumental and Historic Northeast”, by the historian and art critic,Clarival do Prado Valladares. The capital of Paraíba has a seafront that offers beautiful landscapes, with beaches that fascinate with their combination of warm waters, white sand and extensive coconut trees. Theparadisiacal scenery associated with the peaceful climate makes the city one of the quietest in the Northeast, a characteristicthat contributes to the traitof the local people: hospitality. coatiaras of Ingá, in Agreste, and the Valley of the Dinosaurs, in Alto Sertão, and they are regular objects of studies byworld-renowned palaeontologists. There are also innumerable possibilitiesfor tourist in regions that surprise withtheir enigmatic sceneries, which often dazzle. EXUBERANCE FROM NORTH TO SOUTH The exuberant coast of Paraíba, from the border with Rio Grande do Norte to the border with Pernambuco, is approximately 130kmlong. There are more than 60 beaches, spread across eight cities and ranging between deserted and urbanized. All are bathed in a blue-green sea, with estuaries, inlets, sandbanks, cliffs, and plateaus and are dotted with coconut and cashew trees, among other native species. SOUTH COAST There are so many beautiful sights along the South Coast of Paraíba that it is difficult to highlight any. However, the seduction of the famous Tambaba Beach attracts visitors from all over the world because it is the only official naturist beachin the Brazilian Northeast. Tambaba displays sweeping beauty, protected by reddish-coloured cliffs that lend a sense of monumentality to the landscape. The entire coastline of the region is breath-taking, with the beaches of Barra de Graú, Coqueirinho, Carapibus, Tabatinga, Pitimbu, Jacumã, Barra de Gramame and Amor standing out. Coqueirinho is a case apart: in its cove, there are weak waves, ideal for calmingswim, and others with stronger waves, suitable for surfing. Access to the South Coast is via PB-008 or BR-230 roads, and it is worth mentioning that the beaches are a few kilometres from

the centre of João Pessoa. It will take you less than 30 minutes to get to Tambaba from the state capital. NORTH COAST Equally fascinating is the Northern coast of Paraíba, from Intermares Beach to Barra de Camaratuba, on the border with Rio Grande do Norte. Throughout this extensive area, not only are there primitive underdeveloped beaches, many are fully urbanized, with buildings of remarkable historical character. This is the case of Fortaleza de Santa Catarina, in the port city of Cabedelo, recognized as being amongst the most important military monuments in Brazil. The ruins of ancient forts like the Traição Bay, where cannons point to the sea intimate a return in time to the colonial period of foreign invasions. Also, in Tradição Bayyou will find an indigenous reserve, the tribe of the potiguaras, which is a must visit. In the city of Lucena, the Church of Guia, a 16th century construction, impresses with the simplicity of its baroque architecture and the fact that it has been used as an observation post to spotattackers. Another attraction is the centre of the Transamazon Highway, in Cabedelo. In this city, the river beach of Jacaréhas gained international fame due to the sunset that takes place to the sounds of Ravel’s Bolero. In the midst of the urban beaches of Poço and Camboinha, AreiaVermelha (Red Sand) is found, a submerged sandy bank that emerges at low tide much to the delight of picnickersand partygoers.

SOUTHEAST FROM DAY TO NIGHT From hip-hop to samba, São Paulo is one of the best cities in the world for those who do not like to go home early. There are many bars, nightclubs and alternative spaces across the city. A precise destination - and one of the most classic - is Rua Augusta. The street, that has an intersection with the famous Paulista Avenue, is taken by the street commerce during the day: the outstanding (and charming) galleries own stores that goes from the ordinary to the unique. Even going to the hair salon can be quite an experience (the Retro Hair, for example, takes you back to the 50’s/60’s). You can even attend to an eccentric party at a hair salon called Circus Hair. The street houses the most varied clubs, with completely different schedules depending on the day of the week. You can chose to listen to indie music on Friday or k-pop on Saturday. Despite all the diversity, the plurality of São Paulo is far from ending at Baixo Augusta: The neighborhood of Bixiga is known as the Broadway Paulistana. The state has a coastline of 622 km bathed by the Atlantic Ocean to the east. The city of Sao Paulo is just a few kilometers from beach destinations - that complement the capital’s multiple options. The Ilhabela archipelago, for example, is one of the most beautiful spots in the coast. The city holds the largest Atlantic Forest reserve on the planet and is internationally recognized for its nautical winds and also has the official seal of National Sailing Capital, for the continued development of this sport. Guarujá is the ideal destination for those who want to enjoy its gazzling natural beauties spread across the 27 different beaches of the city. Guarujá was internationally recognized in the 70’s with the title of “Pearl of the Atlantic”, and nowadays, the Praia do Tombo is one of the few beaches in Brazil that has the Blue Flag – a certification by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). Changing the direction a little bit and going to the interior of the state of São Paulo, tourists can reach Campos do Jordão, located at Serra da Mantiqueira. The city is over 1,600 meters above sea level, being the highest brazilian municipality. This feature is very important for the city’s reputation due to its excellent climate - usually compared to the Davos Platz alpine region in Switzerland.
