Columnist Kevin Bradley is a third generation Maconite who practices family and criminal law in downtown Macon. He is a graduate of Mercer University and the University of Georgia School of Law. From Pedals the Poodle posing with some of Macon’s Hip Hop Elite, to Larry Schlesinger and Darth Vader/Erick Erickson presenting awards together, once more, it was the best year ever. A giant thanks to Big Jammin’ for putting on his beard and hosting the show. And to all the local musicians, what can we say?

Ya’ll are just awesome. Sonny Spoon showing up with 25 drummers and dancers to perform in front of him really took the cake, and Shantee, a homeless cross-dressing friend of the 11th Hour standing up in front of our “Story of the Year” and singing a-capello, and receiving a standing ovation and a few teary eyes, was one of my favorite moments. And we’re still fielding

Macon Writers Group continues tradition at Sydney Lanier Cottage

Massage Parlor Regulations Fascist!

T

he desire by lifestyle Nazis like Larry Schlesinger and Erick Erickson to impose restrictions on massage spas is pathetic. They falsely accuse these honorable businesses of sex slavery and trafficking despite the fact there have been no arrests or charges brought for those crimes by law enforcement period! What goes on behind closed doors between consenting adults is no business of government. The spas are a great assett to Macon and increase tourism. They do a great job serving the needs of our locals,tourists,and conventioneers.

You don't need a license to give a great massage or body scrub. The best massages I've ever had came from those who were not licensed. To limit the hours of operation for any business is fascism. To mandate a dress code or require fingerprinting and character references to operate a spa is equally fascist.

Hopefully cooler heads will prevail and the spas will be left alone. We should welcome these honorable hard working spas and their employees as we do other businesses. If not look for the spas to find loopholes and continue. Also look for lawsuits which will bankrupt our financially strapped city.

n the last Saturday of each month, the folks at Lanier Cottage graciously play host to members of the Macon Writers Group, all seeking inspiration by the lingering muse of Sydney Lanier. And I am fortunate enough to be one of these hopefuls. While our group consists of writers of different genres at varying skill levels, each of us have the same goal: to hone our craft.

Although the group’s membership has fluctuated over the years and the venue has changed several times, MGW is now firmly planted at the Cottage and our group is flourishing. Plays, poems, short stories, novels, and even blogs are perfected as members submit work for constructive criticism.

Words of wisdom and encouragement fill the room as each of us has his moment in the spotlight.

Suggestions are made, compliments are given—it is a safe place to share, learn and laugh. And slowly, in the

welcoming atmosphere of this wonderful poets’ home, masterpieces are being penned while lifetime friendships are forged.

The group is evolving as our fearless leader, Dr. Shane Trayers of Macon State University, challenges us to become more involved in the Macon art scene. This year, we are excited to host a private event in honor of the authors who will be speaking at the Crossroads Writers Conference and Literary Festival. The ethereal music of harpist Calista Anne Waddy will gently play as members of the MGW humbly read their works for these demigods.

By now, you may be wondering how you, too, might enjoy the benefits of the Macon Writers Group.

Making every Friday a ‘First Friday’ and the new Peach State League

C

ity Council’s Public Safety Committee approved an ordinance this past week to expand First Friday’s open container exceptions to every Friday in downtown Macon. Though originally the meeting was held to consider an ordinance by Councilman and 11th Hour Columnist Rick Hutto to add a Third Friday Event, members decided to expand upon it at the urging of Newtown Macon. “'I think it’s a smart move, and good timing with the days getting longer and warmer. It will enhance the convention and tourism synergy we have with the new Marriott, the branding of ourselves as a music destination and the revitalization of downtown; not to mention the College Hill Corridor activity,” said council woman

aseball is returning to Historic Luther Williams Field this summer and the team's identity will be announced at a press conference on Thursday, March 11th. The Peach State League received over 200 unique submissions and one lucky fan who submitted the winning name will receive a set of two season tickets.

First Annual Macon Cycling Classic Partners with Bragg Jam’s Moonlight Miles

T

attnall Square Park will play host to two premiere events of athletic competition on Saturday, May 1. The 1st Annual Macon Cycling Classic will take place from 9 a.m. to approximately 7:30 p.m. with criterium races in 10 different categories. The course will be a 0.7 mile (1.1k) rectangular loop around Tattnall Square Park. A criterium is a fast-paced race, typically around a few city blocks closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Criterium racing is broken into various categories based on skill/ability, gender, and age, from first-time beginners through seasoned professionals.

Criteriums are the most popular form of bicycle racing in the U.S. and have become enduring events in many cities including the “Athens Twilight Criterium” held annually in Athens, Ga. The race is being promoted and sponsored

by Macon's Walthall Oil Cycling team and the collegiate Mercer Cycling team.

As the last criterium comes to a close, Bragg Jam’s Moonlight Miles 5K Fun Run will be gearing up with its course designed to start and finish around Tattnall Square Park. This is the third year for the nighttime running competition, which serves as a fundraiser for the Bragg Jam Festival and usually takes place in July. Organizers made the decision to move the race to May 1 when the opportunity became available to partner with the organizers of the Macon Cycling Classic and create a full day of activities in Tattnall Square Park, located in the heart of the College Hill Corridor. Registration and check-in for the Moonlight Miles begins at approximately 7:00 p.m., with runners taking their mark at 8:30 p.m.

The Axe-Man Cometh

am not saying that conservatives are invariably short-sighted, but it seems that they become so cause-obsessed that they will sacrifice long term benefits for the sake of a “win” on their cause du jour.

The current cause is cutting taxes, or if that proves too insane even for Republicans in the current environment of rapidly decreasing revenues, at least treating the current tax levels like the speed of light – theoretically possible to exceed, but it ain’t gonna happen.

Consider the mad budget whackers up at the General Assembly. The Republican leadership appears in the press periodically wringing their hands and shaking their heads sorrowfully at the cuts being made – painful yes, but necessary because the money just isn’t there. Of course these same people fly into a rage at virtually any initiative for raising additional funds – even the Governor’s modest proposal for a 1.6% tax on hospital revenue to make up for a Medicaid shortfall was met with derision –

the idea is a “non starter” according to Lt. Governor Casey Cagle. But then I suppose it would be – the tax in question would be largely shouldered by health insurers, and these companies paid good money for this legislature and expect it to toe the line.

Don’t get me wrong – some cuts are inevitable. Unlike the federal government, the State of Georgia can’t make up budget shortfalls by printing more money or issuing securities backed by the treasury. States have to come up with actual money, borrow it, or issue bonds (which is essentially borrowing from our kids). The economic meltdown in this state has led to a drastic contraction of state revenues. Of course, a good bit of the economic situation is our own fault. Lack of regulation and oversight led to the housing and construction collapse, and the same along with archaic banking laws led to the collapse of so many overstretched and under- capitalized banks that Georgia has been referred to as the “Chernobyl” of the banking industry.

But at the same time some compromise is necessary. When the legislative

Don’t call this Republican a RINO (Republican In Name Only)

s a Republican who watches the news and tries to stay current with political issues, almost everyday I either hear or see the word RINO. For those of you unfamiliar with this acronym it stands for Republican In Name Only. As a caveat, I want to again explain that when it comes to my political philosophy I sincerely do not think that there are many people more Conservative than me, but I am starting to get a little tired of people continuously trying to hang this title on a candidate or legislator that might not agree with them on an issue that might run contrary to what they feel is right in their eyes.

The reason that this sentiment is becoming more and more alarming to me is the talk of a third major party that would do absolutely nothing but splinter the Republican Party as we know it. Is the GOP perfect? By no means! However, members of our party that are thinking of this ‘grand and noble pursuit’ must learn from our past mistakes. It was the Reform Party of Ross Perot that defeated George H.W. Bush and kept Bill Clinton in power for eight years. (Now I will admit that eight years under Clinton was a whole lot better than eight months under Obama, but I digress.) It was also the Progressive or ‘Bull Moose’ Party of Theodore Roosevelt that elected Woodrow Wilson in 1908, arguably one of the worst Presidents of the Twentieth Century.

The primary process of our election system was set up so members of the same party of differing views could run against each other and let the constituents determine who they thought would represent

them better. After the primary is completed, good party members rally around their nominee and try and defeat the opposing party. Unfortunately, some folks don’t see it that way. John McCain is a perfect example of this type of thought. And look what we came up with in his place.

In the primary contests that occurred before Georgia, I was a supporter of Senator Fred Thompson. As it turned out, the man lacked the “fire in the belly” to run for President and subsequently dropped out. I was devastated, but I remember really studying over the other candidates and ending up with Senator McCain, not because I wanted to, but because it was the right thing to do for the party. Very few people in Middle Georgia did more to get John McCain elected than I did. I’m not wearing that statement as a badge of honor, but I do say it to remind people that he was most certainly not my first choice of a candidate. He was, however, much more in line with my political philosophy than Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama.

The Republican Senate race in Florida illustrates my point perfectly.

Marco Rubio seems to be a very Conservative candidate, while Charlie Crist is the “RINO” in the race. In every poll, Rubio is beating Crist like a drum and it is becoming a fairly bitter campaign. I would hope that whoever comes out on the losing end urges his supporters to work as hard for the winning candidate as they did for him, not to sit at home and eat sour grapes and let the Democratic nominee cruise to victory.

When faced with the prospect of gutting our college and university system, it is time to at least consider a modest tax increase, at least at the corporate level. It is business, after all, that benefits from the quality of our higher education system.

Which brings me back to my original argument about short-sightedness – that saving money in the here and now may result in greater costs in the future. The quality of the higher education system in a

state and brings people of equal quality into the state to attend school. Of course, many people get jobs and settle down in the state where they attend college. So there is a net benefit in productive, higher income residents to a state with a good post-secondary educational system.

The converse is also true. A state that skimps on public higher education will see a net loss in top level students and workers, in businesses, and, perhaps most importantly from the fiscal standpoint, in tax base.

We can save a little now, but we will pay with interest later.

I wonder if anyone has ever called President Reagan a RINO? Yet we all hold him as the standard of what a Republican candidate should aspire to be. (Just twenty years after the endorsement of President Truman and Senator Humphrey, Reagan ran unsuccessfully for President against a much more liberal Richard Nixon. Though there were

some rumblings of a third party, as there were again when Reagan again lost to Gerald Ford in 1976, Reagan decided to be a party loyalist and dismiss such notions.)

The Republican Party has always been a party of inclusiveness and at this point in our nation’s history must remain that way in order for us to unify in taking back control of our country in not only both chambers of Congress and the White House, but in state legislations and governorships across the nation. Believe me, I am in full agreement with the Tea Party patriots and have been to both of the local Tea Parties, but I do think that a major third party made up from the Tea Party itself will be a major mistake that the United States can’t afford.

am convinced that the resurgence of downtown Macon is due to what demographers call our “creative class.” Isn’t it interesting that the area that looks most like a college town here is actually removed from our colleges and universities (unless you count Georgia College and State University’s nighttime instruction center on Cherry Street)? Bars, restaurants, retail space, offices and theatres downtown are full mainly with young people sporting backpacks, laptops, and at least some disposable income. When I was in my first production at Theatre Macon fourteen years ago, I parked directly in front of the theatre every night for rehearsal and could have fired a shot down Cherry Street without hitting anyone or anything. Now it is difficult to find a parking space at night without using one of the safe and well-lighted parking decks.

Artists and craftsmen such as photographer Maryann Bates work from downtown lofts where they were considered “urban pioneers” when they first moved in. I was there recently for a photo shoot for my new book and, while the studios on Mulberry Street are not elegant, they fill a much-needed void for affordable work space. Loft apartments are being added block by block and are filled not only with students but working professionals as well such as Adam Hammond, news anchor at channel 24.

The recent Macon Film Festival brought out-of-town guests who were amazed at what downtown has to offer. Our guests stayed at the new Marriott City Center where festival-goers mixed with attendees who were here for the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame induction. When our guests decided to stay an extra night, they had to be placed on a waiting list because the hotel was completely booked.

In just a few short months, the Marriott has already proven to be a wonderful asset for our City and the entire area.

My wife and I were pleased to help provide the opening film for the festival, starring Macon native Melvyn Douglas, and his granddaughter was present for the naming of the festival’s top award in his honor. The premiere of Steve Balderson’s film, “Stuck,” shot entirely in Macon, was not only enjoyable but it brought the announcement that two more movies are to be filmed here in Macon. The experience that Karen Black had appearing in “Stuck” convinced her not only to produce her own play at the Cox Capitol Theatre but to make a film of it in Macon as well in the coming months. During the festival we walked with our guests to dinner at downtown’s terrific new restaurant, Lemongrass, but a private group of 24 had filled it almost completely. We then walked down the block to the alwaysreliable Tic Toc where Cesare and his staff did their usual great job. In how many cities of our size would we have such a choice within an easy walking distance? If we had more time afterwards, we would have ended with dessert at Dolce Vita which is fast joining the Hummingbird as the late-night places to be seen.

The weekend after the film festival, Chris Horne and a great crew of volunteers put on the Crossroads Writers Conference and Literary Festival at and near Mercer University. Where else could attendees listen to a screenwriter for “CSI,” a Nebula Award-winning science fiction writer, a commentator on NPR’s All Things Considered, a very successful television scriptwriter, and several nationally-published authors? I was honored to give two different presentations and read a brief excerpt from my new book that a fellow writer complimented greatly by calling my narrative “Proustian.”

Restaurateurs Don Bivings and Pino Mauro at Market City Café have purchased the buildings that adjoin the café and are planning attractive residences above an upscale market in what is now a boarded-up building. Having already invested a great deal of money in their historic home, they now are confident enough in their adopted hometown that they are quite literally putting their money where their mouth is. If “transplants” display such confidence in downtown, why can’t other Maconites who have been here for generations?

Elliott Dunwody at Bright Blue Sky Productions recently emailed to thank me for the stepped-up police protection over on Poplar Street that has had a marked impact on that area of an expanding downtown. As the College Hill Corridor progresses further down College Street, our concept of “downtown” will necessarily change. Bicycle paths and walking trails are making us a more mobile society without the trouble and expense of using cars for every purpose.

Eventually, as baby boomers and empty nesters age, more and more will be giving up their houses in the suburbs for smaller and more efficient homes downtown. Until that happens, our creative class will continue to lead the way in breathing life into downtown. So, the next time you see a young man or woman on the street who may look a bit different from you, who may dress in a fashion you wouldn’t choose, or who steps off a bicycle and locks it to a rack, be respectful – you may be looking at your future landlord.

Our Cherry Blossom Festival Picks The Pinkest Party on Earth, March 18 - 28

Lawn Mower Grand Prix March 20 - 21

n partnership with the Cherry Blossom Festival and Cox Capitol Theatre, Cox Communications will host the third annual Lawn Mower Grand Prix. This year the Lawn Mower Grand Prix is an official points race for the U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association (USLMRA).

The Mow Down Show Down will be a two day event at Amerson Water Works Park beginning March 20th from 10 am – 4pm and continues March 21st from 10am – 4pm. During the event professional racers will race modified lawn mowers up to speeds in excess of 60 miles per hour.

This event is FREE to the public. Zaxby’s, Moe’s and Shane’s Rib Shack will be selling food and there will be a beverage vendor as well. The entire park is open for families to enjoy the races, the playground, and many trails along the Ocmulgee River. Amerson Water Works Park address is 2600 Riverview Road Macon, GA 31204. The talented teens of Theatre Macon’s Youth Actors Company open “Big River,” the incredible musical version of Huckleberry Finn that was a Broadway hit. It's directed by Sylvia Haynie with music direction by Laura Voss and stars students from nearly every public and private high school in Macon.

Performances are at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, 2:30 on Sunday, and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, thrugh March 14.

Savior Adore, Sunday 3/21 began entertaining Savannah and Athens together in 1989 and expanded the shows to Colorado mountain towns through 1994. A critically-acclaimed debut album in 1996, "...'bout time" was appropriately named as the longawaited, first release of material and showcased the duo's soaring, high-lonesome harmonies.

The recording also demonstrated their reverent passion for bluegrass, old-school country, and folk-rock.

Funklefinger @ the Golden BoughFunklefinger is made up of four guys brought together by a love for live music. When Robby graduated high school in 2005, he moved to Athens. For nearly four years Robby sat around and wrote new music, and he began to play solo acoustic around the Athens area about a year ago, receiving a warm welcome from many local musicians. And they play the back room at the coolest bookstore in the universe on March 23rd.

Currently splits time between Big Hairy Monster and his very popular Valdosta-based cover band Daddy's Money.

- Foster McMullen - Vocalist/Guitarist - Has played for 36 years in several popular Macon area groups (Redline, Hellenbach) and is a well-known area guitar teacher.

He owns MusicMasters music store in Byron.

- Eric "Hornet" Fellhauer - Bass Guitar/Vocals - Hornet has been playing for over 20 years in a variety of bands, and was at one time a member of the Italian Prog Metal group Eldritch.

- Russ Cooke - Drums - Russ got his start when he and a bunch of high school buddies decided it would be fun to form a band. They drew cards, and Russ got the drums.

He hasn't stopped playing for 22 years.

What do you sound like and what are your influences.

Good question, I wish I knew the answer! When we review our concert videos, audience responses occasionally bleed onto the audio track. My two favorite comments have been, "What the hell was that?" and "I think my mind has been expanded."

People who have listened to us live or to our demos have compared us to Rush, Moe, Mr. Mister, King Crimson, and other seemingly disparate groups. So, I guess you could define our sound as adult contemporary artsy-fartsy progressive hard jam rock, with just a hint of cheese.

Where do you play around Macon and what do you think of Macon's scene.

Unfortunately, our track record has been a little slim in the Macon club scene. We've had some fantastic performances at The Douglas Theater, Museum Of Arts And Sciences, Cox Capitol Theater, 550, and even the Rogue Progressive Music Festival in Atlanta. So far, The Monsters have been lurking in the shadows, relying on word of mouth to build a fanbase. We are sure that with the release of our upcoming CD, VIEW, that our audience will continue to grow. We'd love a shot at a Bragg Jam slot!

The great thing about the Macon music scene is that there are a lot of excellent musicians in the area, and we are always looking for folks to sit in with us and jam.

What got you started in music?

We all have our reasons. With Russ, it was the high school buddy thing...with Foster it was about wanting to be a better guitarist than others that he had heard. Hornet played saxophone as well as bass, so he had a bit of a musical childhood. I started because I could not keep away from any musical instrument...I was always fascinated by sound and I still am today.

What is on your ipod or what are you listening to right now.

I am sure that none of us are listening to the same thing, except for maybe Them Crooked Vultures. Right now Foster is listening to a lot of Alan Holdsworth solo albums, as well as some Soft Machine. Russ is into Micheal Buble and The Racantours at the moment. Hornet has been sampling around a lot of older, obscure progressive bands like Lucifer's Friend and jazz fusion like Weather Report. I have been listening to some of the newer less-known prog bands like Kiss Kiss, The Dear Hunter, Bigelf, Phideaux, and the new Transatlantic album.

What's your favorite happy hour spot? The Shoebox Lounge, a.k.a., the band room. Otherwise, The Hummingbird is always a fun time.

or those of you who've been waiting for a new Gorillaz album well, the wait is finally over.

Plastic Beach is the animated band's newest set - they call it the "most pop" thing they've completed to date - and it'll be in-stores on March 9th. You may have already heard the first single, "Stylo," complete with cameos from Mos Def and Bobby Womack; other guests who collaborate with Gorillaz include Super Furry Animals' Gruff Rhys, The Clash's Mick Jones and Paul Simonon, and Lou Reed, among others...

Acclaimed Canadian indie singer-songwriter Ron Sexsmith has just wrapped recording on his new album, and is now in the mixing and mastering stages; Sexsmith, who hopes to have the disc out early this year, says that the sessions for the new set were "wonderful," and that he plans to hit the road behind the album with a full band and all the new songs in tow. Sexsmith fans might also want to keep an eye out for his appearance on Elvis Costello's TV show Spectacle, on which he appeared alongside Sheryl Crow and Jesse Winchester; the episode is in reruns on the Sundance Channel, so watch your cable listings...

Fellow folkie Joe Henry, who's been keeping busy with a variety of production projects as well as his own music, is continuing promotion of his most recent album with a quintet of tour dates on the U.S. East coast and Midwest, during which he'll share his unique blend of country, jazz and rock; this particular album also adds some blues into the mix.

Henry's live shows will include stops in NYC (3/8), Vienna VA (3/9), Philadelphia (3/10), and Chicago (3/13), during which he'll rock the house at the Old Town School of Folk...

And the Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano has released their list of the "All-Time Top Ten of Pop and Rock Albums, which they call their "modest guide to point you on the road to good music." So just what do the Vatican think of as the top ten? Well, here are the understandable: The Beatles' Revolver, Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon, Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, Michael Jackson's Thriller, Paul Simon's Graceland, U2's Achtung Baby, and Oasis' (What's the Story) Morning Glory? - and the ones that might make you say "huh?": David Crosby's If I Could Only Remember My Name, Donald Fagan's The Nightfly, and Carlos Santana's The Supernatural... (and before you start emailing in your complaints, yes, Crosby, Fagan, and Santana are worthy musicians - but putting these particular albums on an "all-time top ten" list? Not necessarily...)

Enchanting and mordant, but does it need an action climax?

As a young reader, I found Alice in Wonderland creepy and rather distasteful.

Alice's adventures played like a series of encounters with characters whose purpose was to tease, puzzle and torment her. Few children would want to go to wonderland, and none would want to stay. The problem may be that I encountered the book too young and was put off by the alarming John Tenniel illustrations. Why did Alice have such deep, dark eye sockets? Why couldn't Wonderland be cozy like the world of Pooh? Watching the 1951 Disney film, I feared the Cheshire Cat was about to tell me something I didn't want to know.

The Ghost Writer (PG-13) It's sort of a shock to see a classically well-made thriller In Roman Polanski's "The Ghost Writer," a man without a past rattles around in the life of a man with too much of one. He begins by reading the work of an earlier ghost who mysteriously drowned, and finds it boring and conventional. Hired to pep up the manuscript to justify a $10 million advance, he discovers material to make it exciting, all right, and possibly deadly.

Broolyn’s Finest (R) Well-realized cops, awash in startling violence Three cops, three journeys to what we suspect will be doom. No good can come of the lives they lead. They aren't bad guys, not precisely, but they occupy a world of such unremitting violence and cynicism that they're willing to do what it takes to survive. In the kind of coincidence provided only by fate or screenplays, each one will mean trouble for the other two.

The Bibb County Sheriff Office reports that many Middle Georgians have received scam text messages over the weekend. The text message reads “Your card has been deactivated. Please call 866-879-5338 to reactivate your card.” The voicemail states that the account has been restricted, requests that the caller enter his card number followed by the pound sign, followed by the expiration date.” Local credit unions state they have received many calls regarding this scam. If you have information about this scam, call 478-744-7900.

Bibb Sheriffs Investigate Homicide William Lord, 39, was stabbed on Friday evening while at his home at 4717 Altama Place. Witnesses claim that Lord was inside his home with his parents when the door bell rang.

Lord answered the door and his parents heard a commotion outside. Their son walked back into the residence stating that he had been stabbed and retrieved a pistol from his bedroom. As Lord walked back to the front door, he collapsed and was later pronounced dead from a stab wound to the chest.

Monroe County man sought in connection with vehicular homicide

Macon Police are asking for the public’s help in finding Robert A. Williams, 20, of Ansley Village, Apt. 634, located at 6435 Zebulon Rd. Williams faces charges of hit and run, vehicular homicide and serious injuries by vehicle for an accident occurring on I-75 a week ago. Shannon Hendricks was thrown from a truck when she and six other people were traveling northbound on I-75,

near the Hardeman Ave. entrance ramp, after leaving the Whiskey River nightclub. She died at the scene.

Police could account for six of the people in the truck, but they could not locate Williams. His brothers, who were with him at the time of the accident, were picked up by a motorist and taken to Coliseum Medical Center. Despite their efforts, Macon Police have yet to locate Williams who is described as a 6’ 3” tall white male with brown hair and eyes, weighing 190 pounds.

Anyone with information regarding the location of Williams is asked to contact Macon Police at (478) 751-7500.

Woman charged in North Avenue Subway robbery Jackequina Carr, 22, is being held at the Bibb County jail in connection with the armed robbery of the North Ave. Subway on March 4, according to a police news release. Warrants have also been signed for two people suspected of being Carr’s accomplices. Investigators also continue their investigation of the robbery of a Subway located on Vineville Ave. on March 3. Anyone with information about either robbery is asked to call police at 478-751-7500 or CrimeStoppers at (877) 68-CRIME.

VIRGO (August 23-Sept 22): Virgo is intellectual, critical, fussy, and shy. Do not hesitate any longer to finish up any project you have been doing. You can count on those past favors to help you out in whatever you need at this point; favors, funds or just simple approval and/or support.

CAPRICORN (Dec 22-Jan 19): Capricorn is very often politically minded. Capricorn is also patient, reserved, cautious, faithful and shrewd. You could find yourself taking an unplanned and unexpected trip this week. (It might be exciting.) You may want to surprise somebody with a quick visit but you may get a surprise of some kind yourself.
