The story is just getting started.

A year-long series with a new chapter every issue. Catch up today! Thousands of people have read the first ten chapters of a year long series we are doing on the life of Ed Flowers, also known as Teddy Bear. Ed grew up in Macon, took part in his first bank robbery when he was fourteen years old, a crime for which he never went to jail for. He went on to play baseball at Dudley Hughes High, under coach Goot Stiener where his team won a State Championship in 1964. He practiced with Pete Rose. But Teddy couldn’t stay out of trouble, and ended up in Reidsville Prison right after he graduated, as fucked up as a research monkey, on morphine. Over the next 10 years, his crimes would land him in prison, to which he escaped five times, be put on America’s Most Wanted list, and is believed by some to have robbed over 60 banks. If this is true, that’s more than Jesse James and John Dillinger combined. We are asking that you buy a VIP Membership to 11thHouronline.com to read the rest of Teddy’s story. It’s less than the price of a digital book. $7.99. For that, you’ll get to read the rest of the story, as well as hear audio interviews with Teddy himself, with online digital video coming this fall. The money will help The 11th Hour continue to offer great content, and calendars and reviews to our readers for years to come. So purchase your membership today and continue to read Teddy Bear. Believe us, the story is JUST GETTING STARTED. VISIT 11thHourOnline.com.

One of the most acclaimed musicals of modern times is back in a brand new touring production! Ragtime will appear at the Grand Opera House on Nov. 15-16 at 7:30 p.m. The Grand turns back the clock to the start of the 20th century--a time when anything was possible and ragtime music was king! For many, New York City was the land of opportunity. A poor Jewish immigrant sells his “moving picture” books on the street. A wealthy Victorian couple welcomes a runaway into their home. A Harlem jazz pianist turns an issue of justice into a revolution. One by one, their personal journeys come alive as historic figures offer guidance and

diversion--among them escape artist Harry Houdini, auto tycoon Henry Ford, famed educator Booker T. Washington, and chorus girl Evelyn Nesbit. Together, their stories celebrate the struggle between tradition and independence… black and white… old and new… all in pursuit of the American dream. With its cast of vibrant characters, vivid sets and costumes, and Tony Award–winning book and score, Ragtime is a can’t-miss theater event. Single tickets to the show will cost $68 in Area I, $58 in Area II, or $45 in the Boxes. For a complete schedule of upcoming performances visit TheGrandMacon.com or call the box office: (478) 301-5470.

Going Out With A Big BangThe End of College Hill Alliance Nicole Thurston

Creating positive change was the plan all along. Stirring up entrepreneurship, creating a sense of place, and fostering a since of creative community is the legacy the College Hill Alliance will leave behind. That and a 30 foot fire breathing robot. One of the last hoorah’s of the Alliance will be the Make-End Maker Festival. It is a two-day celebration of makers: people who create original art, craft and technology-based works. The event is Central Georgia’s debut festival celebrating makers, featuring innovative exhibitors, entrepreneurial speakers, plus large-scale attractions. “I am very excited to see this event come to life because it ties into the College Hill Alliance’s larger goal of creating a community where you can make a living doing what you love,” shared Nadia Osman, “We started this campaign to foster makers (people who create new art and tech works) in 2013 as a way of encouraging entrepreneurship with our call for Macon Makers.” The celebration encourages participants to use all five senses when examining the art/technology fusion. Something Spark Macon is trying to encourage. “These makers asked for a place to collaborate and share equipment, which they can now do at Spark Macon, and a way to connect with the community and other makers, which Make-End fulfills.” As of December, The College Hill Alliance will close its doors and become the project of a volunteer commission, and according to Director of Revitalization and Business Initiatives, Nadia Osman, the Alliance’s goals exceeded expectations, “What we have been able to accomplish in a two-square-mile area of Macon is a testament to all the local partners involved, big and small. Not only have we leveraged over $100 million in public and private investment in the Corridor, but we have created a blue print for how other parts of Macon and even other communities can revitalize their neighborhoods.” Osman believes the Alliance has been a catalyst for both tangible changes and a new momentum in community pride. Osman is proud of her work at The Alliance, “I am thankful to be part of a project that leaves behind a legacy that can be seen in the area’s physical improvements and will be carried forward by passionate individuals, organizations and businesses.” Signature events created by College Hill like the Second Sunday Concert Series and Magnolia Soap Box Derby have already been adopted by other local organizations. The Alliance after December, will be an all-volunteer commission that will help to finalize the initial master plan and vision from Mercer University to downtown. The Alliance’s accomplishments will be celebrated at the Tattnall Square Center for the Arts on Dec. 9, where 15 newly appointed members of the College Hill Corridor Commission will be introduced.

About Make-End The Make-End Maker Festival is Saturday, November 14, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, November 15, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. The weekend festival will take place at Tattnall Square Park and there is a daily admission. You can purchase tickets in advance via eventbrite.com or on-site at the festival entrance test. One day admittance $10, two-day pass $15. Children 4 and under are free. A family pass is available for $7.50 a person. To learn more, visit Make-End.com.

All that mattered was this.

(Forward from the author, Brad Evans) Some believe that they can measure people by being around them just a little while. I wonder, sometimes, if I would have met Roy Flowers 40 years ago, if I would have known to be afraid. I have had lunch with him regularly for over a year now, and after one of our meetings I went up to 20’s Pub on Riverside, a place where an older crowd goes for happy hour. I walked in and asked aloud if anyone knew Roy Flowers. Several people raised their hands. One man had served time with him. Another remembered being in high school, and how just hearing the name struck fear. He even said he felt that fear when I came in and asked about him, that he half thought Roy was going to come in behind me and do god knows what. It’s hard to imagine now, as Roy is as gentle and kind of a man as I’ve ever met, always quick to ask about my family, and tell me about his own. But it’s hard to look at any man, and know the things inside him, and if there was ever a story about early promise gone wrong, this man, Roy Flowers, can tell it. I decided to tell his story from his point of view, as he’s told it to me over the last year and a half.

Mama Hill and Mama Louise have kept Macon’s most diverse clientele well fed with delicious, stick-to-ya-ribs soul food since Otis Redding was just an unknown band member in Johnny Jenkins’ Pinetoppers. On one fateful day in the mid-60’s a group a long hairs pooled their money together for two plates. Mama Louise felt sorry for them and gave them all a heaping helping. A friendship between her and The Allman Brothers Band was born. A friendship that took her on quite a ride that included a seat on the tour bus in 1972 and lifelong friendships with Gregg and the rest of the band. In 2007, Mama Hill passed on, but Mama Louise kept on keepin’ on. She calls us every other day, saying “y’all ready yet! I’m ready to go back to work.” To which we reply, “We’re almost there Mama.”

LOCOS GRILL & PUB

Macon Favorite is Expanding; Menu, Beer Selection & More By Nicole Thurston

A wide selection of food, a laid back atmosphere, and a growing craft beer selection has kept Locos Grill & Pub on Riverside Drive open since 2000. What started out as a simple place to hangout and sell a few items to folks in Athens, Georgia, the restaurant has grown to become a neighborhood favorite in more than twenty locations across the Southeast. Locally owned by one of the original founders of Locos, Jamey Loftin, the Macon location has become a fixture in the casual dining scene. According to manager, Terrence Heenan, Locos has just about everything you could possibly look for in a neighborhood grill, “We offer a wide variety of excellent food, an incredibly fun atmosphere and staff, numerous events or bands, and hometown charm.” While most people have tried their wings, Heenan says that there are a few other dishes that are equally as popular “People cannot get enough of our burgers and deli sandwiches. We also have a few different popular signature drinks alongside a growing number of unique and familiar beers.” Over the years, the restaurant has kept many of their staples. Yet, they have continued to move right along with the trends. For example, with the rise in craft beer consumption. “Right now, we are very 14 NOVEMBER 6 - 20, 2015

excited about our new craft beer selection of drafts, bottles, and cans,” says Heenan, “We are getting new ones almost weekly, and even have a craft beer special on Thursdays.” While you can sip the night away on craft beer night, Heenan also points out that Wednesday night Trivia with Devon is another treat for locals. “We also have food and drink specials about every day of the week,” explains Heenan, “We also do many

spontaneous promotion events as well as a range of local singers and bands. You can always check to see what upcoming events we have scheduled either in the 11th Hour or on the Locos Macon Facebook page.” If you are looking for a restaurant to cater, Locos offers several different options. “We can pretty much accommodate to any number of people you would need us to. Usually, groups of people can range anywhere from 50 to 200.” Heenan says that their wing and deli sandwich trays are the most popular types, however, they also offer tenders, salads, appetizers, desserts, and side trays as well as box lunches. “Just about anything on our menu can be catered.” There are a few changes coming to Locos, “We are undergoing renovations in both the front and the back of the house to make Locos an even more ideal place to meet up with friends and family,” explains Heenan, “Also, our fall Limited Time Italian menu will only be around for a couple of more weeks before we get a menu with items that our completely new to our store.” Locos is open 11am until 11pm daily. Caputo has been married 17 years and has two children, Cole (13) and Zoe (10.) Want to learn some quirky facts about Michael Caputo? 1) My first guitar was a Gibson Flying V owned previously by Paul Stanley of Kiss. I won it. 2) I stood and wept with thousands of others outside the Dakota Building in New York City the day after John Lennon was shot. 3) I’m a third generation 100% Italian. 4) I’m a distant relation to the guy who played hitman Luca Brasi in the Godfather. 5) I eat all of the apple... all of it. 6) I asked my future father-in-law’s permission to marry my future wife in a fish house on a frozen Minnesota lake. 7) I can name all the U.S. presidents in order and include the years they served. 8) I like Batman... but am spooked by bats. 9) I DJ’ed at a radio station called “Love FM” in Panama City, FL. 10) I played in garage bands with the names “Blackout” and “p.s.” 11) I coached an 8 to 10-year-old soccer team at the age of 16.

Michael Caputo By Nicole Thurston

“I’m an outsider. I’ve lived here a year. I’ve lived in bigger cities, and I’m telling you You’ve got something here.” Michael Caputo sees the potential in his newly adopted city. When choosing to move his family across country to accept the position of Bureau Chief for the Macon Bureau for Georgia Public Broadcasting, Caputo had an agenda: To strip journalism to its core and to engage in worthwhile conversation with the listener. “I sold myself as someone who was going to make local news paramount. And to make local news more than just.. hey we are going to tell you what happened, we want you to tell us what is happening too,” he explained. He was born in the suburbs just outside of New York City, a typical kid, loving comic books, baseball, and rock and roll. He did play a little baseball, but became more fascinated with the guy who actually called the game. “I had a little black panasonic and I would go to bed, and I would shove it under my pillow and I would hear those voices as I went to sleep.” Those voices helped shape the young Caputo into the broadcaster he is today. According to him, journalism and radio in general has changed significantly since his younger days, “I heard some great disc jockeys back in the day, you know the ones that would say ‘You know I’m just gonna put on the whole other side of the Allman Brothers album now.’ I loved that late night stuff, those guys who would tell you all about the musician.” When it was time to further his education, Caputo chose a small liberal arts university, St. Thomas Aquinas. About two years in, he decided he needed a break. “I decided I was going to stop, pack up the car and go to Florida,” laughed Caputo, “Part of it was my radical way of saying I needed to be out on my own, which I was, but the other part of it, I started to dabble in radio.” He would go to class part time at Gulf Coast Community College, the same place he landed his first radio gig, doing a jazz show for WKJC. ”I was all about rock & roll, but I wanted to be on the air. It was fun, and then someone heard me on the air, and probably figured that a cheap way to get someone to work on the weekends.” He ended up working a Top 40 station and making a name for himself, but somewhere along the way, he knew he wanted more. 16 NOVEMBER 6 - 20, 2015

“I wanted to tell stories. I moved back to New York, went back to college, finished my degree and did an internship at a commercial station that was news, outside of NYC.” From there he would feel the constraints of 30 second and one minute stories, so he transitioned into print. He would end up moving to Rochester, where he met his wife and began his family. “For 12 years, I was a government reporter, a political columnist, and I got to go to the conventions in Los Angeles, and Philadelphia when Bush and Gore were running. I even covered the first time a sitting First Lady ran for office.” This was about the same time that journalism began to change. The internet was taking the world by storm, however, according to Caputo, the news business was slow to change with the times, “.. I felt like there didn’t need to be the kind of constraints there used to be. There was a web. We could connect with people in a different way. I did not know what I meant by that, I just knew that we could. I felt we were not connecting. There was only one place at the newspaper that I thought was doing it better than any other place and that was public broadcasting. ” Michael would spend the next seven years in Minnesota at a public broadcasting station. “They had a project now that was going to marry journalism with engagement and it was called the public insight network. Facebook and twitter had not really taken off yet, and this was some attempt to being that.” Later, he would hear of a “teaching hospital for journalists” in Macon, Georgia, called the CCJ at Mercer University. A school that partnered with a local newspaper and the public broadcasting station. They were looking for a new Bureau Chief and Caputo was ready to roll up his sleeves and jump back into reporting. “When I came here, I think I realized we would have to work a little bit at gaining trust. I think people by and large trust public media. But you have to establish that you are there for the right reasons. It is so easy to use you and then move on to the next story. One of the coolest things about the people who work at GPB - they understand that you’ve got to be in for more than a couple of stories.”

OP-ED

The Missed Opportunity of a Lifetime Did you know that Hillary could name Bill as her running mate and then resign? Vice President run, but as an American, not so much. I personally feel that the Dems should have a more honest person as their standard bearer and although I certainly disagree with most of Biden’s politics, he showed while he was in the Senate that he could cross the aisle and play nice with the other party. In his statement saying he would not run for President, Biden rebuked a statement made by Clinton during the debates that the Republicans are the enemies of the Democrats by saying that “they are our opposition; they’re not our enemies.” He further went after her by saying that “Democrats should not only defend this record (The Obama Presidency) and protect this record, they should run on this record.” If you watched the debate, you know what the Vice President meant. Every candidate, especially Clinton, ran from President Obama and his record like the White House was on fire. The main part of the Vice President’s speech that has been largely overlooked was the fact that he stated that there should be a “national commitment to end cancer as we know it today.” Biden’s son Beau passed away from brain cancer earlier in the year and was a large part of Biden’s decision not to run, although it was reported that on his death bed Beau begged his father to run. I totally agree with the Vice President and an all out attack on cancer much the same way President Kennedy made a commitment to go to the moon. If the government made an all out assault on cancer not only could it save countless millions of future victims, but could also give the economy a huge boost while also adding hundreds of new innovations and inventions to mankind just like the Space Race did in the Sixties. Barring a miracle or an indictment the fact that Biden pulled out of the race leaves a clear path for Hillary to be the Democrat nominee. Current polls are showing that most anyone the GOP puts against her will beat her, but there is one thing that would probably guarantee a win for her against anyone that we have to match up to her: Her husband former President Bill Clinton. Did you know that she could name him as her running mate and then resign? The Constitution merely says that a person can only be ELECTED PRESIDENT two times. It gives no term limits to Vice Presidents and does not say that a Vice President cannot assume the office of President even if he has been elected President twice. Just some food for thought.

A couple of weeks ago I had an article completely finished touting Vice President Joe Biden’s choice to run for President as for all intents and purposes it appeared that Biden was going to announce his candidacy. I wrote a great piece stating that Biden was going to be the front runner immediately knocking Mrs. Clinton off of her throne. I even went so far as to say that the Vice President was actually a lot smarter politically than most people gave him credit for. I should have known better. As I’m sure that you know by now, Biden was intimidated out of the race by a stronger than normal performance at the first Democrat debate by the former First Lady, former Senator and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Biden stated that he could not start so late in the process as, “Unfortunately, I believe we are out of time to mount a winning campaign for the nomination. “ Apparently the Vice President may have read the history of Rick Perry in 2012, Wesley Clark in 2004 and the late Senator Fred Thompson in 2008 all of which started their campaigns late in the season and were doomed to failure. The difference between Biden and the other candidates is that while all of the other candidates had a base of some type, Biden is a sitting Vice President who would be running against a very unpopular candidate, who most in her own party, will hold their nose for and vote for anyway. In my opinion, the Vice President made the biggest political blunder in recent history and certainly if nothing else, given Hillary a run for her money. My God if Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders can be polling at the numbers he currently is, what could a sitting Vice President of a popular President have done? (For the record, I like Bernie. At least he’s honest about being a Socialist. Plus he really gets under Hillary’s skin.) Now granted, Hillary did gain some traction with the debate. But look at who she was debating…When it came down to it, only former Secretary of the Navy Jim Webb looked and sounded remotely Presidential, but he’s suspended his campaign and may go 3rd Party. Chaffee is out as well leaving Hillary a clear path to the nomination with only angry Bernie to stop her and some little road bump named Marty McFly or something like that. (I know his last name is O’Malley, but if he actually ran as McFly he’d probably get more votes.) Donald Trump, the Republican version of a very rich Bernie Sanders, was very relieved when Biden bowed out. Trump feels that Biden would have been a lot harder to beat than the former Secretary of State and her five tons of baggage that she will be bringing to the general election. I agree with that and as a Republican am very glad not to see the

Op-Ed Live Show Review Nikki Lane at The Capitol by Chris Nylund

GalleryWest Iconic Images.

Plain. Simple.

presents

STOREFRONT For most people, Monday nights in autumn are usually reserved for football or a new episode of a favorite television show or all together lamenting the start of another work week, but a handful of us got to experience something much more special on October 26th at the Cox Capitol Theatre. It would have been much easier to stay at the house, especially after spending much of the weekend at Macon Octoberfest (we have coverage of that event over at fieldnotestenographers. com), but I cannot stress how glad I am that I stuck to my guns and went to the show. Frankie Lee opened the evening all by himself for several tunes, armed with his jumbo Gibson J200 guitar and harmonica. Admittedly, I knew nothing of him before his set, but his sound intrigued me. His voice is a high, sweet, nasally whine that brings to mind Nashville Skyline-era Bob Dylan, and it’s backed with fairly simple, but beautiful arrangements. After the show, I did a little research on the guy and it turns out he wrote the songs for his current album while recovering from a hog farming accident (that’s right, he is a country artist that actually does “country boy” things) that crushed three of his fingers. Instead of moping around for several months, he decided to embrace and explore new sounds created by his limitation (of which it seems he has fully recovered) since he couldn’t play guitar for a few months after the accident. Nikki Lane’s music possesses a sass and sweetness that many of her contemporaries in Nashville lack. Her songs vilify ex-lovers and applaud one night stands. The video for her latest single, “Right Time,” portrays her as a vigilante dishing out vengeance with a baseball bat and gasoline to bad men that don’t see her coming and learn the hard way to respect

her wrath. The video does a great job of showing us one thing: she’s both pretty and fierce. Her songs consistently garner a comparison to Wanda Jackson and Loretta Lynn mixed with Outlaw country, which is accurate to a point, but it doesn’t fully explain her sound. This tour is in support of her latest album, All or Nothin’, which was produced by Dan Auerbach (from the Black Keys). Auerbach’s production takes Nikki Lane’s songs and beefs them up into larger than life statements. Sometimes the Wanda Jackson comparisons stick, but the songs also venture out from there, often resembling the jangly melodicism of French pop or girl group attitude a la Leslie Gore’s “You Don’t Own Me.” For the tour, the songs were stripped down to just bass, guitar and drums - she shared her band with Frankie Lee - with some backing vocals, but they certainly didn’t lose any of their attitude. From the start, it was evident that many of us in the audience were familiar with her material and mesmerized by her stage presence, but her biggest fan was a girl that couldn’t have been ten years old. In a move that may counter some of the “tough chick” persona mentioned previously, Nikki invited the little one up on stage to sing “Wild One” and the crowd really lost it. Nikki’s performance on its own was great, but this gesture, as simple as it was, endeared the audience to her even more. Sure, she’s got style and she’s got talent, but she also realizes that playing music for others is about more than that. I suspect this realization will take her far and wide and I would be very surprised if there are any tickets left the next time she comes around. If y’all were one of the few and the proud to make it out, you know it was a hell of a way to spend a Monday night. If ya’ missed it, know that you missed something really special.

THE INTERVIEW Arts + Culture + Entertainment

Drink Specials / Special Events

Dubbed “masters of soulful folk” by Paste, a chat with Oliver Wood

WOOD BROTHERS Dubbed “masters of soulful folk” by Paste, The Wood Brothers released their debut studio album, ‘Ways Not To Lose,’ on Blue Note in 2006. You’d be forgiven at the time for expecting it to be something of a side project. Chris Wood already had legions of devoted fans for his incomparable work as one-third of Medeski Martin & Wood, while his brother Oliver toured with Tinsley Ellis before releasing a half-dozen albums with his band King Johnson. Almost a decade later and with drummer Jano Rix added as a permanent third member, it’s become quite clear that The Wood Brothers is indeed the main act. I met Oliver through one of my favorite friends, Marcus James Henderson. Marcus played saxophone with King Johnson, and I spent a lot of time around the band when I first moved to Macon. They even played my wedding. I was happy to be able to talk with Oliver about some of those times, and about his new album with the Wood Brothers, Paradise. The band plays the Cox Capitol Theater Saturday, November 21. Buy your tickets now for this one! Oliver Wood, how are you my friend? Brad! How you been buddy. Same old stuff here. How’s Macon? Great. I think the last time we talked was my wedding, 11 years ago. I know! Wel,l what is going on with you? Well I’m old, I have two little girls. We are knee deep over here. That sounds serious. Good for you. Yes, it has been a long time hasn’t it? It has, I was so excited to see you coming back to Macon. We’re excited about it. You know we’ve only played Macon once, and we played it on our very first tour ever. And I’ll never forget Jesco the Dancing Outlaw opened for us. Do you know who that is? Of course I know who that is, are you kidding me? Well I guess I don’t have to ask you what the highlight of your career has been. Yeah. I was like, can we just stay here and do this. Seriously. Now Jesco is famous. I’ve spent the morning listening to some good music in preparation for this interview. It’s all this music that was playing during a very exciting time of my life. Getting married, starting a business, meeting the folks that are my best friends to this day. I’m realizing that you wrote, or at least played on a lot of these songs. Aww man. I love hearing that. Thank you so much. I love that.

26 NOVEMBER 6 - 20, 2015

You kind of cut your teeth on that old Atlanta Blues scene. I’d love to talk about that a little bit because I was lucky enough to see so many of those guys that isn’t around anymore. Tell me about the first time you met Donnie McCormick. Man the first time. I had just moved to Atlanta, really. It was the late ‘80s. A long time ago. I was just a young dude back them. I remember seeing him at the bar playing with the band Red Dog. He was playing the drums. He was one of those guys that you couldn’t take your eyes off of. You know this. He had this aura. His own eyes were very intense. Very loving but very intense. Just so in the moment, and you always wanted to be in that moment with him, all the time. I noticed that your current percussionist, Jano beats on an old guitar. It reminded me of Donnie beating on an old Chicken Coop. It’s actually called a Shuitar. But our drummer Jano, and a buddy of his came up with it. There is a website Shuitar.com if you want to know more. But it’s been kind of a cool thing for us. What’s interesting about it. It’s kind of like the chicken coop. If you go out to see a band in a bar they are always playing something ethnic. Like Bongos or Djembe’s, some kind of African influence. But I think of the chicken coop or the shuitar as a very American kind of percussion. Which I think is cool. Tell me about how you and Chris got the Wood Brothers together. When did those conversations start happening? Well actually it was in the late nineties I imagine. King

Johnson had opened for Medeski Martin and Wood, and I sat in on a few songs. It sounded good and it came natural and it was a lot of fun. We had been living far apart for a while, and had grown apart, because of that. But we started talking about it more, and we’d play together during family get-togethers, that sort of thing. Finally we got some recording equipment together and started working on stuff, and it just came together. I’m sure people ask this a lot. Was it more difficult or less or just different writing with a sibling? How about being on the road? Well we’d kind of been apart for a while. So there was this period of getting to know each other again. And I think we really enjoyed that. But that sibling thing, that you hear about with The Black Crowes or the Kinks or whoever. There is none of that with us. Tell me about the new record, Paradise. We’re happy with it. It was a different process for us, because we produced it ourselves. It was our most collaborative record for sure. That was hard, but we enjoyed doing it. We have always worked with a producer. But we got to the point to where we said “We’ve made so many records, we are producers, so let’s do this ourselves.” I think the end product turned out wonderfully. I know you moved to Nashville a while back. Are you liking it? Did you watch the CMA’s last night. It’s all the buzz this morning. I didn’t. Someone just sent me the Chris Stapleton video, which was incredible. We love Nashville. I’ve got to say. We are a touring band so we’re not super involved in the music scene here, besides studio stuff we work on with our band and with other people. But there is so much more to it than the country thing here. From John Prine to Jack White, to The Black Keys. There is just so much Non-Country stuff going on here. Which I like. It’s very inspiring. Well sir, you are inspiring. And I’m so glad I got to talk to you today. I’m coming to see you at the show. Please do! I’ll see you very soon!

Whitey Morgan COX CAPITOL THEATRE ““This may be country music, but it’s dirtier and more dangerous than your average Tennessee two-step” - Rolling Stone. Whitey Morgan is an American Honky Tonk artist from Flint, Michigan. In Flint, the factories are closed, jobs are scarce and the people are bitter. Whitey Morgan sings songs these people can relate to. In much the same way his grandfather and mentor did over 3 decades ago, to a whole generation of southern transplants who came up US-23 to Flint looking for the good life. In the spirit of William Morgan, Waylon, Merle and Paycheck; Whitey’s melodies help people forget their problems for a few hours and serve as the guideline for drinking sorrows away.

Friday 11/13 Michael Stacy CRAZY BULL Michael jumped right into promoting his music heavily with television, radio, print, and most importantly, a top-notch live show. Over the past few years the Michael Stacey Band has traveled the U.S. performing at various venues and sharing the stage with such popular acts as Diamond Rio, Brad Paisley, Wynonna, Neal McCoy, and Lonestar, just to name a few. The Michael Stacey Band even opened for Michael’s childhood hero, George Jones. Michael sums it up by saying, “It’s a blessing to entertain for a living. about chance, but everything since then has been a combination of hard work, awesome music, and friendship. The septet has been playing nonstop since 2007, crafting a genre-hopping sound that rounds out traditional rock instrumentation with horns and pedal steel guitar and mixes the divergent backgrounds of its individual members with the humid, funky undercurrents of the band’s New Orleans home. The result is like English spoken with an exotic accent: familiar, yet difficult to pin down. Call him the next Duane Allman or Jimi Hendrix, but whatever you do, don’t call Marcus King a child prodigy. Sure, the 19-year-old guitar shredder’s talent shimmers with the same resonance as his heroes, but he’s been wielding an axe since he learned to talk - he started playing when he was 2. Marcus was born into music, gifted with steel-string DNA and two generations of men before him who nurtured the boy’s musical nature. 2nd Annual Best of Georgia Roots Rock Showcase THE HUMMINGBIRD Music starts at 6 pm and features some of the BEST music across the state! His quixotic half-century in music stretches from his teen years in Oklahoma in the late Fifties to his best-selling collaboration with Elton John from 2010, The Union. Between his solo work, contributions to high-profile albums by other artists, and screen exposure in the Bangla Desh and Mad Dogs & Englishmen documentaries, Russell became a veritable superstar in the Seventies. As a central figure on the rock scene during the Seventies, Russell shared studios and stages with members of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and others.
