ALT-PLAINS STUDIO - DEGREE PROJECT
Alt-Plains is a heterotic investigation on the city of White-Plains. In an attempt to remedy the generic nature of the city, a shuffling of existing materials, programs, forms, needs and desires is implemented as an engine to produce the unfamiliar. While certain discoveries seem to have little to no repercussions to the functioning of the metropolis, others begin to challenge the social, domestic and economic normalities we accept and take for granted.

CAR PARK LIVING #1
4
Car Park Living is a hybrid between the street, the car, the home, and the office. As an edge city, White-Plains is littered with empty parking garages. With the advent of uber, lyft, and other shared car services; there is less need for these massive garages to only serve the car. What if we repurposed these structures to address some of our more current needs and desires. Work-from-home is slowly becoming the norm so why not introduce an architecture that agrees. And why go to the supermarket when food trucks can easily drive to your doorstep?

GREENSWARD GALLARIA #2
Greensward Galleria depicts a future where conventional commerce is no longer a reality. With the evolution of digital shopping, big box retail has become an outdated form of architecture. Showrooming provides us with ability to hybridize leisure and commerce in ways where the two become indistinguishable. Greensward Galleria attempts to distort the dichotomy in our relationship between nature and capitalism.

SUBURBAN SUBMERSION #3
8
By hybridizing the suburban house, the yard, and the sidewalk, the concept of the property line is dissolved. Surburbia as we know becomes less of a segregated world and more of an interconnected public landscape. Challenging the idea of private property amonst neighbors; we inevitably enter the sharing economy. The pool, the car, the solar panels etc. are now a shared resource amongst the inhabitants of the block.

Pier 18 STUDIO - 403 Pier 18 is located in Seaport Manhattan, adjacent to the Brooklyn Bridge. By collapsing the East River Walkway into one contained structure, Pier 18 is able to combine sports, liesure, and socialization in a way that engages and connects participants with different agendas. The aesthetic nature and materials of the pier have been borrowed from contextual infrastructural qualities. This is not a new redevelopment within the site, but rather a reimagining of the existing.

The structure is responsive to its context; creating new views of its neighbors while engaging plant life and the changing tide of the East river. This allows for occupants to experience the surrounding urban fabric in new ways while simultaneously interacting with the natural elements that existed long before. This juxtoposition between the built and the natural environment attempts to help us re-examine our relationship to both.

h Chef House STUDIO - 402 An eco sustainable, co-living faciity for chefs. The Chef House is based off a sharing economy; a system in which the trading of resources is the core economic relationship within the neighborhood. The hoouse collects all of its produce locally by occupying gardens belonging to adjacent properties; and in turn, supplies homegrown meals to the neighborhood. Multiple agricultural facilities such as this one populate the city in order to spread organic trading and consumption.

The kitchen is the heart of the project. All rooms of the house connect directly to it, allowing each of the chefs to have direct access. The yellow-gold walls act as a way finder to the kitchen. The green hue represents the trunk or core of the house, which supports all of the infrastructural components.

The form of the house resembles a tree, and the corridors the trunk connecting private rooms to the Kitchen. These corridors carry the kitchen odors to each room, allowing the other chefs to smell the meals as they are being cooked. The public can also engage the house through a designated corridor for food pickup and observation of the working chefs.

The Chef House is part of a larger network of similar food “engines” dispersed around the city of Venice. Some of these facilities are co-dependant on one another, others completely autonomous. The Chef House is a catalyst for the neighborhood to begin to utilize yard space for food agriculture, premoting a positive and self sustainable community.

THEPATH
STUDIO - 301 The Pratt Graduate dormitory is located in Brooklyn NY. The project is centered around an interstitial circulatory route that is dedicated to the students. This path is not the only way to move throughout the building. It cuts through the levels in a unique way, separating itself from the generic way we circulate. The same route functions as a gathering space where students can exhibit their work and collaborate with one another.

Common Space: A place for students to gather and exhibit their current work and studies.
Apartment Unit: Some units are interrupted by the student path creating in anomalous rooms throughout.
Hallway: An alternate path for the student body that cuts through the dormitory.
The orange path belongs to the students. They are able to use the spaces as they please, whether it is to paint, study, sleep, gather, or eat. The path carves its way into the apartment units, creating irregular colored surfaces within rooms. The path aims to pull the students out of their private spaces and into a more social and interactive environment. 22

The Columbia Crew team boathouse is located in inwood NYC on the Harlem River. The buildings form is derived from the geometric body motions of the crew team. Rhythm and repetition is key for a succesful crew team. These elements were implemented in the form and structure of the new boathouse. The rhythmic apertures within the skin and structure produce openings for natural light to enter the facility while the team is conditioning. Viewing platforms run across the face of the building to support observation areas for the fans. 24

ARTIST’S ROOFSCAPE
Rooftop Renovation ForwardWork llc: This project adressed the desire for an outdoor gathering space at an apartment complex located in Harlem NYC. While the main objective was a re-roof due to leaks, the project grew to become more than just a solution to a damaged roof. The lattice structure supports adjustable fabrics that provide shelter from rain and sun while producing new coloration projections induced by sunlight.

No.8 HOUSE RENO
Long Island Home Renovation project ForwardWork llc: The renovation project is anchored around the conversion of an old basement to an entertainment zone. The clients were looking to repurpose a forgotten space in order to entertain guests and friends while preserving a separation from their private living areas. While the main goal was to respond to this initial need, the project proliferated throughout the entire house; providing new playful additions to the more private and intimate spaces of the home.

Long Island Home Renovation project ForwardWork llc: Salt House is an addition project in Bayport NY. The client expressed the need for an additional wing to their home that could support a gym, bedrooms, a guest bathroom, an office and a terrace that would overlook the bay. The skin of the addition took on its own character rather than blending in to its existing counterpart. Aesthetic elements from the existing siding were borrowed and then reinterpreted through a modular paneling study.

LAKEWOOD STUDIOS
Long Island Studio-House Design Freelance: With the influx of individual inhabitants within a zone populated with nuclear families, the hybrid between the studio and the single family house is formed. With a focused awareness on the contextual housing typology, it was of key importance to obtain a dialogue to the old while preserving autonomy for the new. Single occupants are looking for their own private space in an already established neighborhood; this project aims to bridge two worlds with a minimal amount of interference.

BRADHURST RENO
Harlem Apartment Renovation Project Freelance: This renovation project located in Harlem NYC began with the desire for an affordable makeover to a two bedroom apartment. The challenge was to be able to make many small moves in varying locations within the apartment , in order to produce a much larger and wholistic effect to the overall dwelling. While the original bones of the apartment are intact, critical cosmetic design decisions were implemented to completely change the feel of the place.

Harlem Browstone - Rear Yard Appropriation Freelance: With a newly wedded couple starting a life in one of the worlds busiest cities, the Harlem Yard aspires to provide relief and escape within the never sleeping metropolis. The design not only aims to provide balance in our current work-live dynamics but also between texture and materials. Cedar wood walls and vegetated gardens are divided by a natural patterning of bluestone pavers; creating mutiple zones for relaxation and gathering.

HIGGINS HALL LIBRARY Higgins Hall School of Architecture Library Network Graftworks llc:
Pratt Institute School of Architecture does not have a library for its students. This project is a proposal for a network of libraries within Higgins Hall. Since space was a concern during the design process, it was critical to introduce interventions that would optimize the current conditions. In one instance, a floating library allows for the coexistence of a lounge/study space for students. Another instance preserves a pin-up space for student critiques while doubeling down as a book checkout kiosk.

East End Waterfront Kayak Shed Proposal Graftworks llc: Located in Portland Main the Kayak Shed allows for individuals to store and rent kayaks. The shed borrows its form from the neighboring body of water. In plan it is a simple rectangle, but in elevation the roofs structure enables a double curved and continuously changing surface. Two ramps are positioned on either side of the shed to allow for both hand held and larger boat departures / arrivals.

The nature of this study was more linked to discovery than a means to an end. A play between volumes and skins produce a mat-structure that speaks to a legacy of operations. A single courtyard within the complex is formed and provides escape to a virtually continuous field.
