Filigree is a range of fixed size and extension tables. Glossy and matt diecast aluminium frames underpin tops enhanced by a wide range of finishes. The technology used in the discreet Filigree main element allows an extendable table with an invisible lateral telescopic system. The entire top is without cuts, and extends to double its size. It allows the maximum use of space thanks to the outer legs, minimum thickness of the tops, and above all its mechanism containment structure and extensions which are only 38 mm internal thickness. The tables are available in different materials and finishes to meet all needs.

Since this project developed through Assignments 9 & 10 is going to be based overseas, I decide to look for foreign projection traders. They're small here in Spain and almost all of them are in Madrid, so I had no many troubles regarding to gathering information. I decided to focus on the realistic case and I asked them about their ventures in other countries, while gathering catalogs and technical information from the various traders. So I visited reputable and recommended high end furnishings distributors in Spain, but most of them have little visibility on the international stage. I visited their websites, read Houzz.com reviews‌ Through a mutual contact on twitter, I got in touch with a contractor who is assigned to setting up Inditex Group stores all over the world, and that person referred me to an interior design and decoration company in Madrid specializing in international projects, which is what I would need to carry out this venture. I looked at their website and visited their showroom to gather information (as far as possible). The consultant was very kind and, in addition to telling me about materials and technical aspects, he informed me about other projects they had completed in private residences in Dubai. So I focused on this renowned firm for my venture, depending on their experience and knowledge of the specificities that they may have to operate under a different legislation than the national one. What could originally be a major expense is not, as the dealer has guaranteed delivery dates, allowing for limited margins of error or delays in the various jobs, as all the work to be done is scheduled together and better budget control is carried out. One of the most important things to do at the beginning of any interior design project is to draw up a budget, to set up a detailed list of all the products and components to be included in the project, with a cost estimate plus 10% of the sum to cover potential contingencies and unforeseen events. The essential to keeping the budget in order is to have the budget of the items at hand and to keep track of each spending while preserving the balance of expenditure. The key to effectively completing the project is to balance the budgeted things before enabling the use of contingency funds, to pursue good deals and to be flexible, considering different options for each part of the project. In this way, a committed design team will work wonders even on a modest budget.

The use that will be made to the home and its location has affected the choice of materials. Project responds to consumer needs in terms of top quality finishing project and usability. All listed manufacturers produce their goods in compliance with EU safety standards. Kitchen furniture and utility room are made of top quality VOC free lacquer wood and veneers. It also includes half of the formaldehydes laid down as a minimum by EU standards, all built on an aluminum frame, ensuring low toxic emissions in the event of fire and exceptional longevity of furniture. Ceramic flooring is R11 (low slip) and will remain as beautiful as the first day for longer than wood flooring, which requires more extensive maintenance. Paint is washable and formulated with a water base rich in premium pigments, so the color fading is minimal. Both lighting components are LED technology and household appliances are the most energy-efficient in their scope. The table top is made of marble and stainless steel worktops, with robust quality materials. Sustainability is profitable, too. When choosing the materials and creating the FF&E guide, I measured the appropriate quantities of ceramic flooring, painting, molding meters, wallpaper and LED lighting, based on the measurements in the plan and using the manufacturer's calculators (in the case of paint) and following its application instructions (two layers). And so far as ceramic flooring is concerned, the advice of the commercial division of Azulejos PeĂąa is that at least one more package be ordered, if necessary due to the breakup of any of the pieces during construction. So this extra has been included in the estimation of the sum. The electrical work, the painting and the design of the flooring would be carried out by the group hired for the construction of the building (They have a PSDP person, as they are a large team managing different traders) by T.Zed Architects,(PSCS), and who also drafts and manages the execution of the Health & Safety plan for which we would be in contact; my clients to make the necessary operational arrangements; and I, as a subcontractor, and responsible from my project. In the sense of fire safety, an LD2 type detector has been mounted in the kitchen, incorporated into the house security system, which has another detector in the night area. Care has also been taken to protect the electrical circuit in wet areas and to position the plugs at a height controlled by European standards. All electrical appliances and construction preparation comply with the specifications of the regulations in effect in the municipality of Dubai. The ventilation of this kitchen is not a concern, as it is situated in a room facing the outside of the house, fitted with large windows that can be opened in the hypothetical event of a failure in the exhaust system of the kitchen. The smoke outlet of the stove is connected by underfloor channeling to the smoke outlet of the dwelling. So what could, at first glance, cause questions about the position of the hob is theoretically solved. I haven't gone too much into domotics, although some of the products used have this functionality, such as the washing machine and dryer, which can be connected to Google Home, for example and can be controlled by this voice assistant or the application on the smartphone, like the blinds. Perhaps I should have explored these functionalities more in the rest of the appliances or in the lighting of the home, although perhaps I see more projection in a residential dwelling not intended for rent, where users change with relative frequency and it is necessary to restore user profiles. On the other hand, not knowing the UAE data protection law and the privacy issues presented by the use of IoT (remember the recent scandal of the Google assistant who recorded users in order to improve their own AI voice recognition), not delving further into the use of these technologies has been a not-so-bad decision.

The main problem I have had throughout these two assignments has been to gather enough technical information about the kitchen furniture. As I said in Assignment 9 "Bespoke is the new black", and although I have managed to find in my abysmal dives on the internet the measurements of the furniture and interior equipment, the number of possible configurations is such that unless you have access to the physical manuals (I remember the six thick books that the designer from Leicht showed me) it is almost possible to glimpse the shores of madness while trying to look for all the information on the internet. Another added problem, which I fear will accompany me during my studies, will be the titanic task of obtaining physical samples of certain materials. While in many websites in UK, USA, Germany...etc it is possible to get samples of materials, in Spain it seems impossible mission… Through this unit, I’ve learned that, as a potential designer I need to develop contacts in the industry, to search for references and suggestions from other professionals and traders. The reference of this construction professional to the trader of my choice was decisive and pointed out to me the importance of establishing contacts with professionals in the sector, which will be of use to me if I want to obtain references, information or present my portfolio in the future. So I' m fine-tuning my skills with photoshop and other image editing programs, to try to make up for this lack and present samples as close to reality as possible. The use of rendering software has substantially improved the final result of the presentation to the client, although I have not yet mastered the techniques of lighting and the creation of materials, but I hope to improve it progressively. Still, I'm quite satisfied with this first result. Another aspect I have to keep working on is creating templates for my presentations. In each assignment I've tried to do something different, but it's time to define a more corporate style that sets my brand image. Onto the advice of the first feedback, the model could be improved by adding something to the empty space in the middle of the kitchen. While I initially thought that, in terms of mobility and accessibility, it would be a good idea to keep the area clear (it could be that any potential users would use a wheelchair), it is true that, in fact, the design might seem a little sparse, combined with the neutrality of the color palette. I'm going to take these tips into consideration for my future designs and strive to be less conservative.
