KISS THE BRIDE 2009
Editors Notes Congratulations! I have been involved in the wedding industry for the past ten years and have seen many changes in the style of weddings; from the fashion (thank goodness the puffy sleeved taffeta numbers are done with) to the style of photography to the ceremonies themselves. But one thing that doesn’t seem to change, and hopefully never will, is the atmosphere on the big day. Everyone is smiling, it is the one day when you can gleefully celebrate just how happy you truly are. It is the one day that none of you will ever forget. Kiss the Bride magazine shares with you the special and unforgettable celebrations of Western Australian couples who offer their tips and advice with you for your big day. Whether it is décor suggestions, invitation ideas, gown design or menu choices Kiss the Bride is the ‘word of mouth’ magazine for the stylish and modern bridal couple. We hope you find inspiration whilst looking through the pages for your own special day and we wish you all the very best for the new life that lies ahead.

Letters to the editor I picked up your magazine after stumbling across your website the other day (admitedly by accident). I would like you all to know the magazine is amazing. The presentation is fantastic. A magazine about real weddings in Perth is like a breath of fresh air. I am so sick of picking up real wedding magazines, finding something I love and then being disappointed because it is all in the Eastern states.

KISS THE BRIDE Celebrating Real Weddings BE INSPIRED BY REAL LIFE WEDDINGS 2007
Hearing about the couples stories is also lovely especially when they talk about their first dates and naming cafes/restuarants around Perth and you can say 'I know where that is!!'. I’m getting married in December and I have found your magazine to be full of inspiration and so helpful (there are names and number I can contact!) I will definatly be putting in an application to have my wedding as one in your magazine. Its going to be amazing!
Kiss the Bride has been my bible for organising our wedding, finally real people, even my fiance reads it!
I’m looking forward to the next edition!

- Eileen I found a copy to purchase for myself at a newsagent near where I work today. I am getting married in Perth next year and it’s given me lots of ideas. While preparing for my wedding I found that your publication Kiss the Bride was the most special and helpful of all the magazines I had purchased. Everything was real and not for a photo shoot and was hence very inspiring for ideas. - Jo
The layout is fantastic, it’s a great price and it showcases local suppliers which is awesome. The real weddings slant is really good. I like magazines that don’t gloss over the top and actually use real examples. Especially with a subject like weddings, instead of typical ‘fairy tale’weddings that feature in most of the bridal magazines. It is good to look at different styles, how people do it on a budget or slighty off beat themes. Keep producing it in the future! - Sarah

Don’t do and have things in the wedding that you really don’t want, just to please other people. Have everything your way, but make sure you’re still polite and wear a smile when you’re telling people no.

{How we met} The Revival Fellowship convention 2005 in Perth. My flights from Adelaide (where I grew up) to Perth were a birthday present. The friend who bought the tickets said we would be staying with her friends family, that is- Dave’s family, I was only there for five days, but we hit it off and he moved to Adelaide four months later.
{Our first date} David took me out to a little Italian restaurant (my favourite!) in North Adelaide. Afterwards we went for a stroll by the River Torrens, found a bench and talked for hours and hours, cuddling to keep each other warm. {The proposal} David was pretty nervous now that I look back on it. It was our two year anniversary. He took me to a little restaurant near our house where we were known by the owners, then to the Torrens River, it was freezing! Under some trees, he stoppped and held out his hand to dance, there were people around but we didnt care, we danced around in circles for a little while, then he took me to the bench we had talked for hours on our first date. We talked for ages about how great the last two years have been and before I knew it, he was on one knee showing me a beautiful ring he had designed for me saying, “Kali-Jean, will you be my wife?” {Engagement} We had a big casual bbq in David’s parents big backyard a couple of months before the wedding. {Rings} My engagement ring has four diamonds and two rubies encased in 19ct gold with vines lacing all around them. David found some of the gold for me himself and had the jeweller melt his gold into the ring, a promise he had made me when we started to get serious, “I’ll find the gold for your ring one day.” {Hens and Bucks } About 15 of my girlfriends and I went to Yanchep National Park and stayed the night eating junk food and talking all night in a dormitory, then went swimming in the lakes on the following day. Dave and his mates camped out on the beach, eventually they all ganged up on him and tied him to a pole with only his underpants on, the usual. {The planning} Kerry Harper was a huge help, she made the fascinator that I wore in my hair on the day, got a cheap price on the wedding cars, made the red table runners for the day, so much! David’s mum Sophie helped out a lot with the guest list and making the invitations. Dave’s sister Kate made a lot of dessert for the reception and all my bombonneries. My mum helped out a lot when she got to Perth and all my bridesmaids were so helpful. I was happy to look after the wedding, while David looked after what him and his groomsmen were going to wear, finding us an apartment to live in after the wedding and organising the honeymoon. {Theme} It was quite a vintage wedding with white table cloths, red table runners and green vines with little red flowers in the middle of the tables. I used my bouquet at the reception as decoration for the bridal table. {Gown} White, strapless, fitted down to the hips, lace all over with detailed beading, corsette at the back and a onw metre train. {On the menu} There were a lot of nibblies at the start; sushi platters for each table, a platter of cheeses and biscuits, turkish bread with dips, club sandwiches, spinach and ricotta triangles. We hired a woodfire pizza oven for the day and had woodfire pizzas for the mains. Dessert was made up of: mini lemon meringues, caramel slices, chocolate brownies, cupcakes, mini pavalovas and the wedding cake. {Flowers} My bouquet was in a big teardrop formation with three dozen roses; bright red, rusty gold roses and burgundy red Mokara and Aranthera orchids with soft greenery. Buttonholes were red rose buds and corsages were white Dendrobium orchids. {Honeymoon} Koh Samui, Thailand for 17 days. {Wedding cost} $10,000

{How we met} We met in 1999 at the Cottesloe Hotel. We were introduced by a mutual friend. I saw Brook from across the croud and asked to be introduced to him. {Years together} We have had an amazing nine years together so far. We have lived together since 2001, and have had some awesome overseas holdays together. {The proposal} Simple and very romantic. Brook took my up to the hill overlooking Mosman Bay, we walked out onto the lawn and he got down on one knee. {Engagement} We hired out the upstairs function area at the Claremont Hotel. Lots of drinks and Dancing with all our family and friends. {Rings} My engagement ring is a beautiful simple white gold band with single princess cut diamond. I love it! {Family’s reaction} Everyone was so excited for us! As we have been together for so long there was a little bit of “it’s about time” as well. {Hens and Bucks} My bridesmaids organised an amazing day of wine tasting, an amazing lunch, drinks at a brewery, a very funny bus ride and then drinks at our local hotel to finish the night off. The best man and a couple of other co-conspiritors organised a safari themed pub crawl that took them from Swanbourne to the Swan Valley and back. {The planning} My husband Brook, the bridesmaids, our family and the Fosters helped with the planning. Everyone was very happy to help out. All the planning was split down the middle. It was important to the both of us that we got an equal say on how the day was going to happen. {Inspiration} The location of our wedding, it is absolutely beautiful. It was easy to plan when you had it in mind. We had a surprise location wedding. None of the guests knew where they were going when they got onto buses in Claremont with a promise that we would deliver them back at the end of the evening. It kept the day very exciting for everyone. We kept the decorations very simple with beautiful flowers in a mix of cut crystal and clear glass vases. White linen and white chair covers and tealight candles that twinkled in the breeze. {Gown} My dress was an oyster coloured raw silk gown with beaded lace. A little bit renaissance in shape. {Most exciting part} The most exciting thing was knowing that the end result was that we were going to be married and have an amazing party with all of our closest friends and family. {Our first dance} This Old Love by Lior {On the menu} Canapes in the tasting room by the lake. The evening meal was upstairs overlooking the valley. The food was amazing, there was three selections per course and every one of them looked delicious, and a cheese course to finish the meal off. {Flowers} The theme with the flowers was white, green and our dress colours, oyster and coral. David Austin roses, Liliums and orchids. The botton holes were succulents and Lavender and the table arrangements had three different vases with a single type of flower in each such as a bunch of spray roses, greenery and a collection of orchids, but they were different on every table. There was also Liliums, and other types of greenery. With the crystal, glass vases and jugs it all looked quite elegant. {Honeymoon} We had an amazing holiday in France for our honeymoon. We discovered Paris and what an amazing city that it is and then took the TGV (rail) to the alps and stayed at Peisey Vallandry and skiied for the remainder. It was so romantic and such an amazing place to ski. {Wedding cost} $40,000

{How we met} We met at work, I just returned from a four month holiday in Europe and noticed a new guy in the office. After chatting to him for a few days I thought he looked familiar and soon realised we had gone to the same high school. {Our first date} He cancelled what would have been our first date, can you believe it? He felt bad and then organised for us to attend a mutual work friend’s birthday party together, which became our first date. It turned out to be a lovely evening and ended with us chatting until the wee hours of the morning. {The proposal} He had planned to propose on the 11/11/06 but it turned out that we were on holidays in China on that day, so he gave me a little poem about me being a ‘shining star’, with it he presented me with a diamond star pendant and told me how he wanted to propose but wanted us to be home with family when he did it. He said that he would do it when we got back to Australia. Little did I know that he had organised with my Mum to organise a dinner for the night we returned, with my side of the family and a surprise visit from his mum. So, after dinner my Dad gave a little speech which lead into Guy getting down on one knee in front of all the family and asking for my hand in marriage. All the girls started to cry....it was just beautiful.

Soul Mates {Rings} Mine was a beautiful Rosendorff solitaire princess cut diamond in an 18ct yellow gold half rub setting designed by Guy and the Rosendorff jeweller. This was complemented by a Rosendorff diamond wedding ring featuring seven princess cut diamonds set in 18ct yellow gold. Guy’s is a Rosendorff 18ct white gold brush finish wedding band featuring an off centred round diamond.
{Hens and Bucks} I actually had a hen’s day. It started with a small kitchen tea at my sister’s house (the Matron of Honour). We played games and laughed through the afternoon enjoying some drinks and food. Then at 6.30pm we all went to the Lakers Tavern for a meal where they made me walk around wearing a 70’s style hat/veil (which they purchased from the Good Sammies). After the meal we went back to my sister’s house for a late night of karaoke (which always brings some very interesting entertainment and good laughs). The funniest thing was, I was the only one sober (that’s because I do not drink alcohol). For the buck’s do the best man, Richard, organised a river cruise with River Crawl. About 20 of them cruised up the Swan with beers, BBQ and topless barmaids. {The planning} I would say I did a lot of the initial research into what we liked but we both went together to any appointments and made decisions jointly. My sister also had a lot of involvement. The most stressful part was five weeks before the wedding my dad had a massive heart attack and was in ICU for a few weeks with his heart being supported by a machine. As the last month is the busiest and most demanding finalising everything I had to juggle being by his bedside, my job, wedding stuff, etc - it was beyond stressful as my main concern was my father surviving. And we were blessed to have him recover to a point where he could attend the wedding and not need to be pushed down the aisle in a wheelchair, instead walking me down the aisle so proudly. It was truly a miracle and made the day extra emotional having him present at our wedding. {Inspiration} We wanted it to be a very small and intimate wedding with only our closest family and friends.Being of Italian descent the wedding had the potential of being massive but we both didn’t want that.Intimate and elegant was our theme and pink is my favourite colour so that was the colour of bridal party, bombonnieres and other decorations. {Gown} I absolutely loved my dress! It was a 2008 Essense design from Tuscany Bridal. Heavenly - Angel satin gown. Soft sweetheart neckline with embroidered lace appliqué with soft pickups over the gown, back and front. The train featured matching lace appliqué. It was extremely comfortable to wear and fitted me perfectly so I had absolutely no alterations done to the dress. {On the menu} It started with pre-dinner drinks and canapés.We had a formal dinner with a choice of two entrees, two mains and two esserts. We both chose our favourite dish from the selection list and combined them. The selection was appreciated by all and the food was absolutely divine. {Decorations} The whole venue was the key decoration. Villa Pourzand is just gorgeous. We both fell in love with it the moment we walked up the grand staircase. The atmosphere it creates is pure elegance and the attention to detail in the surroundings is something you don’t find in many wedding venues. All the guests commented on how beautiful Villa Pourzand was and asked me...however did I find this place? {Flowers} I had champagne roses with a spray of Dodda Vine around them. The bridal party had pink roses. {Honeymoon} Tour of Japan for two and a half weeks; taking in Tokyo, Mt Fuji, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Osaka. The best part was staying at The Prince Hotel in Hakone overlooking Mt. Fuji and Lake Ashi. {Wedding cost} $25,000

{How we met} We both worked at The Western Australian Turf Club in the food and beverage department. We were like passing ships as we both had jobs in different areas where would only meet each other in passing and at lunch time and would see each other and chat. We knew each other for around two years before we started going out then were together five years and had bought a house together before the proposal. {Our first date} As we worked in hospitality and worked crazy hours one Saturday after working all day we went to dinner at the Burswood Casino. There was no arkwardness we both just chatted about everything until the early hours of Sunday morning then Geoff dropped me home. {The proposal} On January 5th 2005 after the busiest fortnight of our jobs we were both in the loungeroom of our home. I was lying on the couch and Geoff knelt near where my head was and he produced the ring the two of us had seen in the shop over Christmas. {Rings} My engagement ring is yellow gold ring with three Princess cut diamonds set on the angle. Complemented by a yellow gold wedding band. We have the exact same band and had them both engraved on the inside with our names and wedding date. {Hens} We had a week of hens activities as there was such a mix of people, and family and friends had travelled from various areas of Australia. We had a day at a day spa with pedicures, manicures and champagne followed by lunch. On Easter Monday we spent it at the races at Ascot Racecourse. Then there was many days of lunches, cups of tea and girlie moments finishing all the final touches for the big day. {The planning} My mother passed away in 2005 but before she passed away she told me her ideas for my day and I agreed with most of them and wanted to make her proud. I asked my cousin, Shirley, to be my proxy mum. Shirley was a fabulous help with dress fittings, idea thrashing over coffee, looking at venues and trying food and then when we couldn’t find a venue we liked she offered her house for our reception which was perfect. My maid of honour was a great help even though a lot was via email as she lives in Tom Price. My two sister-in-laws helped in making various items. One made the creams that we gave as the bombonieres and the other made my ring cushion, ties for the bridal party, dress for the flower girl and garter. One of my work friends helped with the making of the wedding invitations. I did most of the planning as Geoff wasn’t really fussed on details. I did the research then ran my ideas by him and then we would make a decision. All Geoff wanted was a nice, small, simple occasion. {Gown} My mothers wedding dress was made in 1966 with the help of her mum and grandma. The dress is made of Broche’ lace and lined with cotton which we changed to ivory silk satin. It had a high neck and long arms with a straight skirt which I had re-designed to an open neck and backline with small sleeve with the help of Samantha Wynne. I then had a detachable train made of ivory silk satin with detailing and my grandmother’s brooch as the clasp. Finished with jewellery specially made by Tina Jeffery and a cathedral length veil. {On the menu} A variety of cocktail food from turkish bread with dips and antipasto to beef satay, lamb cutlets, squid and fritattas. Then dessert of mini pastries and wedding cake. We wanted food people could eat whilst they mingled with the other guests. {Flowers} I had a a trail bouquet with white roses and Singapore orchids, my maid of honour had a round bouquet of deep red roses complemented by dark green leaves. Then Geoff and my brother (who walked me down the aisle) had a white and red rose buttonhole respectively. The flowergirls had bouquets of white silk roses from Dusk. {Honeymoon} We went to Phuket for 14 days of relaxing by the pool.

{How we met} We met through a girlfriend at Balmoral Pub in Victoria Park {Our first date} For our first date he took me out for a gorgeous dinner and the rest was history! {The proposal} We went to Koh Sumui, Adam booked the most spectacular restaurant on the side off a cliff face and proposed while we were there watching the sunset, it was just perfect. {Engagement} We didn’t have an engagement party because we planned the wedding quite close to the proposal, so lots of champagne when we saw the friends and family to celebrate. {Rings} One carat solitaire diamond ring and a thick gold wedding band and Adam used his late pop’s gold ring. {Hens and Buck’s} I’m not a big fan off hens’ parties so the Thursday before the wedding we had a few sundowners in Broome which turned into quite a late night. Adam played golf with his mates {The planning} My Mum and dad were a huge help as well as Adam, he was the planning machine! {Inspiration} Broome itself inspired us. The theme was tropical. {Gown} Light gold, A-line fitted skirt with tulle layers from waist down and all over beaded lace embellishments. {Our first dance} You are amazing by Alex Lloyd.

{How we met} We met and became good friends while working on a mine site in Western Australia. Our offices were right next to each other, and we both liked drinking tea and swimming laps at the pool. {Years together} Five months, but we had known each other for two years prior to that. {Our first date} We had so much fun! We played Supagolf in the Swan Valley, and then had a beautiful lunch at Sandalford Winery. A perfect combination of our loves of being outside, good food and wine. {The proposal} Tahni really spoiled me - he organised a surprise holiday for us at El Questro in the Kimberleys. It was an amazing surprise and holiday, made even more so by his very romantic proposal at sunset at a beautiful lookout over the wilderness park. He started packing up our things to go with his back to me, and I heard the creak of a jewellery box opening (a noise any girl would know!). He turned around and was so nervous. He proposed beautifully and was holding a stunning engagement ring that fit me perfectly - of course I said yes! {Engagement} We shared a bottle of champagne and had a lovely dinner under the stars at the Emma Gorge Resort at El Questro. During our dinner, a lovely couple who overheard that we had gotten engaged congratulated us and told us they had been married for 40 years and have loved every minute of it. It was a very auspicious start to our engagement, they were such a loving and wise couple. We hope that we can say the same thing to a young couple in 40 years time. {Rings}My engagement ring is beautiful; nine princess cut diamonds, 0.2 carats each set in the middle of a wide white gold band. {Hens and Bucks} My bridesmaids and bridesman (my lovely friend Jon was the head bridesmaid) organised a hilarious

afternoon of lawn bowls at the Mosman Park Bowling Club. We wore our bowling whites and had a really good time. We then had a fabulous degustation dinner at Harvest in North Fremantle. It was the perfect day and night, relaxing, great fun with my closest friends, and a very special dinner. Tahni and his good friends had a night out in Perth, starting at the Old Swan Brewery. The details are a little hazy after that but they all had a great time! {The planning} My sister Jenny and her husband Brook got married six weeks before we did, so it was lovely and very special to be able to share ideas and planning with her. We spoke on the phone a lot. Lots of questions, a bit of agonising, and congratulating each other on being such good organisers. The groom got involved a bit, he was interested in the cakes and beer ordering. We married in a small country town and there was a bit of distance between the ceremony and reception venues. We organised three buses to pick people up from where they were staying, and look after them for the day so people did not have to drive. It was a little stressful at times working out logistics and times to ensure that everyone would be picked up and taken home, but it was well worth the effort. {Inspiration}The thought of creating a beautiful and special day for my fiance

and I to become husband and wife, a day that reflected our values, wishes and love for each other in a beautiful setting with our closest family and friends. {Gown} My dress was magical. Katie Colgan from Loui Col worked wonders and created a dress that was fabulous to wear and look at. Very pale pink, with a skirt of layered tulle, with pleated, chiffon floating over the top. The bodice was made of raw silk, and Katie created a fabulous wide black bow that went around my waist. The dress was amazing, and unique. I loved wearing it. {Our first dance} Norah Jones; Come Away With Me.We had done some waltz lessons prior to our wedding so we surprised our guests. I think they expected us to shuffle out of time while stepping on each others feet; we are not known for our dancing abilities. Having lessons was a great way for both of us to feel really comfortable dancing with each other, knowing that people would be watching us. {On the menu} We had a cocktail reception and Silas Masih from Forest Hill really worked some magic in creating some delicious food. Guests enjoyed wine tasting and wood fired pizza while we were having photos taken. Silas created an amazing table overflowing with delicious antipasto and throughout the night we ate arancini, potato dosa, vegetarian tarts, noodle salad, cardamon fish pieces, it was all so good. We also wheeled around a wheelbarrow full of delicious Albany oysters that people loved helping themselves too. Great fun. {Decorations} Forest Hill is in such a beautiful location that very few decorations were needed. The view from the three glass walls was more than enough, especially as it showed an enormous love heart someone had mown into the grass on a neighbouring property, it was a great touch. My Mum and her lovely friend Jenny created some amazing flower arrangements that were stunning. {Flowers} Our bouquets included pale pink roses and lisianthus, with flat green chrysanthemums. The corsages were very simple; a single white rose. The arrangements at the reception were amazing; enormous vases of liliums, roses, lisianthus and greenery. {Honeymoon} Three week holiday toVietnam.
“
The best piece of advice given to us was to savour and enjoy every single second as the day really does pass so quickly. We were very careful to take in everything around us, and not let it rush by.

{How we met} We met at Stirling Train Station. I didn’t want to go out that night, but glad I did because Adam was there heading home after a day out with his friends. {Years together} We had been together just under two years. We moved to Tom Price for a fresh start after being together for just six months. {Our first date} We went for dinner at Bella Rosa Cafe. When we finished, we went across the road to the Balmoral for a couple of drinks by the fireplace. It was pouring with rain, so we went back to Adam’s where we sat and talked until the sun came up. {The proposal} Red roses delivered in the morning. I didn’t know where we were going, but I had two hours to get ready. A red hot-rod picked us up and dropped us at Bella Rosa for lunch. We sat at the same table as we did our first date, where he nervously proposed and I said yes. {Engagement} After the proposal, we went across the road to the pub (same as our first date) where he had organised all of our family and friends to be there waiting. We also had a party in Tom Price with our friends and in Perth with our families. {Rings} My engagement ring came in a set with the wedding band. The engagement ring is white gold with a princess cut diamond in the middle and three princess cut diamonds on each shoulder.
few decisions. My mum helped with some of the traditional things. Adam and I hadn’t been to many weddings, so we found some things very difficult. Adam still let me have free range to do what I wanted. We communicated really well, so we both got the things we wanted. {Inspiration} I wanted everything to be pretty and pink. I also wanted to create a romantic feel throughout the whole day. {Theme} We just had a silver and fuchsia colour theme and the flowers of the wedding were frangipanis. {Gown} Ivory in colour. Tight fitting down to my hips. Flowing organiza on the train. Crystals and beads all over the bodice. {Our first dance} We chose ‘Bubbly’ by Colby Callait. I didn’t want a song that was too mushy or that has been used at heaps of weddings. {On the menu} We had a buffet that had everything; fish, chicken, pork, beef, lamb, heaps of salads and pasta as well as huge plates of prawns and oysters. There was enough there to please everyone’s pallets. {Decoration} Bridal Creations came in and put up ceiling silks and backdrops with fairy lights. The tables had beautiful, tall candelabras with gems and frangipanis scattered on the tables. The chairs all had chair covers with a fuchsia bow. {Flowers} My bouquet had Frangipanis; mainly hot pink with some white ones. The bridesmaids were opposite; mainly white, with some hot pink ones. The boys all had Frangipani buttonholes with a white and pink flower. They were all made out of artificial flowers but looked stunning.
{Hens and Bucks} My hen’s was at Shemoves dance studio for a pole dancing lesson before dinner at Sorrentos in Northbridge. We then went to the Mustang Bar for some dancing before heading to our hotel room at the Hilton. We all dressed up in a “Day at the Races” theme. The boys went to Little Creatures and some other pubs in Fremantle before jumping on a bus and heading into Northbridge to party. I haven’t heard much about it, but he came home with eyebrows intact.
{Honeymoon} We spent two nights in Singapore and seven nights in Phuket. We stayed in a five-star resort in Phuket which had everything, we didn’t need to leave the resort if we didn’t want to.

{How we met} We met at Argyle Diamond Mine. I worked as the Healthy Lifestyle Coordinator and Brett would always come to my fitness classes, and it all blossomed from there. How could I resist that big beautiful smile. {The proposal} Brett first asked my father’s permission. Then organised a champagne gourmet picnic. He said as we are about to travel the world, he just wanted me to know if anything happened to him while we were travelling that he loved me and wanted me to be his wife. {Engagement} Our engagement party was held at Brett’s parent’s house in Mandurah on the canels. Soon after we jetsetted the world for a year of travel. Once we arrived home we then started to plan the wedding. {Rings} Oval shape solitaire diamond, with smaller diamonds either side, set in white gold. {Hens and Bucks} It started with a surprise visit from my Maid of Honour arriving from Melbourne. We went pole dancing, followed by dinner, drinks and games back at mum’s house, then onto Leederville where we finished dancing the night away. Brett and the boys went on a pub crawl. {The planning} My mother and I had a fantastic time planning the wedding. She should of been my fourth bridesmaid. We had fun at all my bridal fittings, mum and dad both wept with joy at the final dress fitting. Planning took about 12 months to organize, meetings with florists, caterers, dressmakers. DJ and photographers, who will be Master of Ceremony can be quite a tense time, but we all survived and the wedding was such a joy. {Inspiration} It was such a fantastic experience, with the build up of such happy emotions on the big day. We both wish we could do it all again. It just goes too fast. There was no theme as such, we just wanted a nice, elegant, beautiful and simple wedding. Brett worked on a shift roster, so lots of emails and phone calls. He was always there for our appointments. However most of the planning was easy, as someone always had a contact who could help out. {Gown} The very first dress I tried on. I was in love with it as soon as I put it on. A beautiful, romantic and sexy Donna Tobin design. Made of French lace and Italian silk, hand beaded over the bust and waist. The back is amazing. It is still hanging up in my spare room and I just want to wear it everyday! {Our first dance} Better Man by James Morrison. {On the menu} Buffet style. {Decorations} The ceremoney was held in the beautiful Hidden Gardens, where the Swan River sweeps by, so there was no need for extra decorations, just a long red carpet that led to a white marque, where Brett was waiting. The reception had large, beautiful chandeliers throughout. {Flowers} The bridal bouquet was made up of red roses and the bridesmaids’ bouquets were Lisianthums. The groom’s buttonhole was red roses and the groomsmen had Lisianthums for theirs. On the tables were white Gladiolus’ in tall vases. {Honeymoon} One week at Yallingup Lodge Spa Retreat. {How we met} I met Lee when we were both working at Sea World in Queensland. I was a dancer and he was a skier/stunt man in the Sea World Ski Show. {Our first date} After work on a Sunday the ski show team would often have drinks at Fisho’s at Marina Mirage, Main Beach Qeensland. I was there with my girlfriends and my phone rang. It was Lee and he asked if I was hungry, I said, “yes I am”. He replied, “great I will take you to the pub, it’s a date!” We enjoyed a great pub meal, then carried on with the rest of the team at Fisho’s. The rest is history. {The proposal} It was at Coogee Bay Beach in Sydney on our way back from my first trip to the snow. We had breakfast and after Lee walked me up to the cliff over looking the bay. I was admiring the view, and as I turned back to look at Lee he was on his knee holding a small box. I was so excited! {Engagement} We had two party’s. We had one at our house in Currumbin in Queensland, with family and friends. And one in Perth at my parents house three months later, with friends and family. {The rings} They are brilliant cut diamonds, made by our family friends. {Hens and Bucks} My hens’ night was three weeks before the wedding so family and friends that were flying in for the wedding could come. It was a country and western theme organised by my bridesmaids. Everyone was dressed as cow girls. I even had a bucking bull and not to forget the good looking Brazillian stripper. All the boys went to Ascot Race course for an afternoon of drinks and betting. A party bus picked them up and took them to Living Dolls, then into the city. {Inspiration} My family and friends. Lee and I wanted a social wedding, as many friends and family were travelling from all over to come to our Perth wedding. I made sure no one went hungry or thirsty and most importantly no waiting around with easy transport from the ceremony to the reception. We had a beach themed wedding as it is a huge part of our lifestyle. We showed that in the decor with big vases on each table with Angel fish swimming around in them. {The gown} I wanted a dress that was me, so I designed it myself. It was a short dress, with panels and strips of chiffon and lace that made it look like a long dress. The bodice was all lace with Swarovski crystals all hand sewn in little flowers all over, along with cut outs of lace flowers hand sewn. The back of the dress was low, with chiffon tied in a bow in the centre of my back that went to the ground as my train, fixed with a Swarovski butterfly brooch. It will always be my favourite dress! {The planning} Was a combined bride and groom effort. As much as possible Lee was involved and was helpful making sure most things were organised. But the bride-to-be will always do a fair percentage more than the groom. I couldn’t imagine Lee choosing the flowers! {Our first dance} No Air by Jordan Sparks {On the menu} It was a roast buffet including pasta’s and fish. Entree was Salmon bruchetta and dessert was our cake. {Flowers} Orchids, all different types. They are my favourite flower. {Honeymoon} Sanur in Indonesia {Wedding cost} $12,000

98 KISS THE BRIDE 2009
{How we met} Our lives had crossed paths on several occasions in 1999/2000 prior to us meeting finally at the Shed in Northbridge one Friday night in 2005. We had both been at other gatherings that evening and had been dragged out to The Shed by friends where we met. {First date} We met for dinner at the Como Hotel, after a few drinks we sat down for dinner. I ordered fish and chips thinking it would be the easiest to eat with out making a mess of myself, but after reaching for the salt and pepper, accidently knocked my piece of fish onto the floor. After picking it up off the floor and putting on my side plate, Craig looked up and laughed at me and said “That’s got to be embarrassing”. {The proposal} Very casual, after receiving a voucher for a nights accommodation at the Hilton from my parents, we decided to have dinner in the restaurant downstairs, very casually during our meal Craig asked me what I wanted to do this evening, which prompted my response of, “I don’t know what do you want to do?” He replied “Get married.” I was speechless and asked if he was joking to which he replied, “No, I’m asking you to marry me.” I was very excited, had a few tears well up and said yes! {Rings} We had the ring designed for us. It was a solitaire diamond with an e-curved gold band which has 11 small round diamonds set into it on the right hand side. {Hens and Bucks} Shrek themed garden party for Princess Fiona followed by pole dancing and finishing up with drinks at the Queens. The bucks was afternoon drinks at the Olive Farm Winery followed by a bus trip to the Ocean Beach Hotel to finish off the evening. {The planning} My husband Craig of course, my sister Melita, my mum Judy and my other bridesmaids, Lesley, Kristi and Pip. The whole planning stage was very exciting for us but we found the table settings and invitation list to be the most stressful. {Inspiration} I wanted it to be simple, yet elegant but most of all we wanted a chance to party with all our friends and family. The theme was a black and ivory theme but it also linked in with a travel theme. Our centre pieces consisted of black Willow wood in a round vase with black pebbles, hanging in the Willow wood was a name of a destination we had either both travelled to, or just one of us had, on either side of the centre peice was a wooden frame with a photo in them corresponding to the name of the table. {Gown} It was an ivory strapless gown with a corsetted bodice and an A-line skirt which has a central split at the front and the back with a pleated chiffon underskirt visible through the splits (picture an old country and western movie and the outfits that used to be worn by the salon girls). {Our first dance} We had two songs edited for us, it started with Feels like Home by Norah Jones and then it went into You’re the First, My Last, My Everything by Barry White. {On the menu} There was choice of two entrees and mains, the entrees were a choice of garlic King prawn risotto or duck caesar salad and the choice of mains were a chargrilled chicken breast or chargilled Scotch Fillet, custard filled profitterolls were for dessert. {Flowers} The main flower of the wedding was the orchid, I had the Phalaenopsis orchid (with a purple centre) for my bouquet and for Craig’s buttonhole, my bridesmaids’ had orange and red Singapore orchids. The groomsmen, page boy, father of the bride and father of the groom all had white Singapore orchid button holes and the mothers of the bride and groom had white Singapore orchid corsages. Our flower girl also carried a basket of rose petals to scatter down the aisle. {Honeymoon} Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia for seven nights. {Wedding cost} $20,000

{How we met} Tango classes at the Tango Salon, Subiaco. I was trying to lead so John did a different step to the one we were learning. I tripped, and have been in his arms ever since. {Our first date} John thinks our first date was October 7th, we went dancing in Northbridge. But I say our first date was October 12th, we went to dinner then for a moonlight walk on the beach. We’re not sure we’ll ever really agree, so we just celebrate that week. That way neither of us gets it wrong! {The proposal} John surprised me with a hot air balloon ride in Northam, and he proposed with the ring on bended knee in the basket whilst floating over the Avon River just after dawn. I was paranoid I would drop the ring and it would end up in some little lamb’s stomach. {Rings} John designed a spectacular white gold, solitaire, brilliant cut diamond ring, half way between a claw and bezel setting. The whole diamond is visible and it really sparkles! My wedding ring is white gold with eight small evenly spaced diamonds all the way around. John’s ring is white gold with three faces. {Hens and Bucks} For the hens we did belly dancing at the Harem Lounge. We had a hysterical time. Who would’ve thought that jiggling your hips could be so hilarious? John had a James Bond day; breakfast watching the Western Force rugby training, swimming at the beach, indoor rock climbing, go-kart racing, and dinner and drinks at the Officer’s Mess at Leeuwin Barracks.
“
{The planning} We did most of it ourselves, but Lisa (head bridesmaid) and Marc (best man) were instrumental in the last stages of preparation and on the day. We wanted to make it an occasion that was as personal as our love (John made me say that bit!). It was very much a combined effort. John designed the rings, and arranged the invitiations and all printing, bridal vehicles, chapel, celebrants, honour guard, and honeymoon. I arranged all the rest.We each had input into every aspect of the wedding. There was a bushfire the day before in King’s Park. Mounts Bay road was closed, and there were helicopters and smoke everywhere. We hoped that we wouldn’t have to take our vows to the sound of sirens and surrounded by smoke, we were just glad it didn’t all happen one day later!
As long as you get married, nothing else really matters. A perfect wedding is a boring wedding so don’t let the little things stress you because they will add character to your day. Be flexible and your wedding will be wonderful.

{Gown} Summery yet elegant. An ivory satin floor-length gown with a V-neckline and low back, a modest train, and Swarovski crystal detailing at the left side and on the lower back. I knew John would love the low back design. {Our first song} Michael Buble’s version of Sway. We did a Tango as our first dance. {On the menu} Entrees were avocado and smoked salmon, and a trio of chicken salads; mains were a choice between prime fillet steak and pan-fried fish, both cooked to perfection; desserts were an exotic fruit salad and a hazelnut mousse. Everyone raved about the food. It’s one of our favourite restaurants. {The flowers} The main flowers were white lilies and white roses, in a bouquet of native leaves, bark and Gumnuts. {Honeymoon} We’ll be visiting Italy and France for a month later in the year when the European weather isn’t quite so hostile for Australians. We also had a few days in Margaret River right after the wedding. I wrote “Just Married” on the back of our 1966 MGB, and we got tooted by car horns everywhere we went. It was great! {Wedding cost} $26,000.

{How we met} We met when we were both 18 years old through friends but were both seeing other people at the time. We kept on running into each other socially until we got together when we were 21 years of age and have been together ever since, over eight years. {Our first date} We went out to Meads restaurant (which was open in Subiaco at the time) and had an amazing meal. {The proposal} We went bike riding around France in September to October 2008. While in France Leo proposed at a gate which was situated at the foot of Mt Ventoux in Provence. {Engagement} We held a combined engagement/my 30th birthday with close friends and family at the Balmoral pub in Victoria Park {Rings}Single princess cut diamond with a punch set diamond on either side, set on a white gold band. {Hens and Bucks} A group of eight girls went down to Margaret River for a long weekend. We hired out a fantastic house right on the coast, did a wine tour, ate great food, drank great wine, and generally enjoyed a ‘girly’ weekend. Leo and his mates also went down to Margaret River (on a different weekend than the hens), hired out a house and went rock climbing. There was also a fair amount of drinking taking place and the groom was ‘broken’ by the end of the weekend. {Inspiration} We wanted the wedding to reflect our different personalities and our relationship. We also wanted the style to be relaxed, simple, and elegant. We really didn’t need to decorate because the Darlington Estate Winery is just magical on its own, though a friend did make our place settings and sprinkle Peppermint tree leaves on each table to add a finishing touch. {Gown} Simple and elegant with a bit of ‘bling’. A fitted, satin, ivory dress with a train. {First dance} Digital Love by Daft Punk (we wanted to dance and have fun). {On the menu} Mainly vegetarian with one fish option for a main. {Flowers} The bridal party had Creme de mont roses in their bouquets with Australian natives. {Honeymoon} We went to Vanuatu for ten days, staying at Mangoes Resort {Wedding cost} $15,000

{The proposal} It was a Sunday evening in August 2006. We had a great relaxing day with friends. Lyle was cooking dinner and I had just got into my pyjamas. He walked into the bedroom, got down on one knee, pulled a ring box out of his pocket and asked me to marry him. I was too excited to eat any of the beautiful meal and instead woke everyone up in New Zealand screaming into the phone. {Engagement} Lyle’s parents threw us an engagement party and later that year, when we were in New Zealand, we had a surprise party. We were very lucky to have two parties and great people to share our excitement with. {Rings} My rings are 18ct yellow gold with three princess cut diamonds set in a parallel form in a row. Lyle’s ring is a platinum 10mm wide comfort band with a gold bevelled edge. {Hens and Bucks} I was spoilt with three! Lyle’s mum threw me a kitchen tea, which was great fun. My hens night in Perth had a Disney princess party theme (featuring all the fun kids party food) and included the day relaxing at Quest Hotel in Mandurah followed by dinner out and a dance. As the New Zealand family and friends (especially my mum) couldn’t make the Perth parties we had a girls only dinner the night before the wedding. The bucks night was more of a whole day thing. A bus load of the guys went to the Swan Valley and enjoyed a round of Supagolf. This was then followed by a few stops on the way to the casino. {The planning} We planned most things together with the help of our best man and matron of honour (husband and wife) and our fantastic travel agent, Tamara from Harvey World Travel. The most stressful part of the wedding was arriving at the Vanuatu airport to hear the hotel had flooded. We were well accommodated for and the staff were so lovely and kind. All was sorted and the hotel was just perfect. The most exciting part of the wedding was having both our families with us in such a magical location and being able to celebrate with them. The wedding buzz created around the hotel during the week heightened our excitement and made us feel very special. {Inspirations} Inspiration came from knowing we would get to spend a whole week, and not just one day, with our closest family and friends in a beautiful location. With beautiful Frangipani’s growing all around, they were the flower of the day. Having not been such a fan before, we were overwhelmed by their beauty on the island. The décor also featured turquoise, gold and chocolate brown. {Gown} I knew that my dress was the only one for me from a picture in the first bridal magazine I brought after our engagement. My dress was strapless with a bodice that gathered through the mid line and was laced with Swarovski crystals. Three rows of crystals hung across my hips and the dress had a slim-line chiffon flow to the ground with a small train. {Our first dance} Louis Armstrong and Kenny G’s, What a wonderful World. {On the menu} We chose the Vila Buffet, and the food was amazing. It was fresh and tropical and included Mediterranean vegetables, beautiful fresh salads and desserts. Mains featured fresh fish and wonderful curries. {Flowers} We had white and yellow Frangipanis and red Anthuriums in our bouquets and arrangements.
