THE BRIEF: I WAS ASKED TO DESIGN AN INFANT SCHOOL FOR CHILDREN AGES 4-7. THE SCHOOL MUST BE ABLE TO ACCOMMODATE YEARS RECEPTION TO YEAR 2. I WANTED MY DESIGN TO ACT AS A NURTURING AND STIMUL ATING ENVIRONMENT TO STUDY IN. AN ENVIRONMENT THAT EVOKES CREATIVIT Y AND A WILLINGNESS TO LEARN. THE PSYCHOLOGY ASSOCIATED WITH CHILDREN’S LEARNING ENVIRONMENT PARTICUL ARLY INTERESTED ME. I RESEARCHED INTO THIS INITIALLY AND FOUND THERE IS A LOT OF SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT THAT CHILDREN, LEARN BEST IN A NATURE BASED ENVIRONMENT. THIS FORMED THE HEART OF MY PROJECT

02.2 OBJET TROUVE
THE BRIEF: THE AIM WAS TO DESIGN AN EXHIBITION STAND THAT WOULD BE SELLING FLOWER VASES DESIGNED BY AALVAR AALTO. IT HAD TO BE MAINLY CONSTRUCTED OF TIMBER. THE WAY THE VASE WOULD BE EXHIBITED FORMED THE KEY PRINCIPALS OF THE DESIGN. MY CONCEPT CHALLENGED THE FLUIDIT Y OF THE FLOWER VASE. THEREFORE MY DESIGN STRIVED TO DO THE OPPOSITE. I INITIALLY EXPERIMENTED WITH MAKING PAPER MODELS IN THE BEGINNING. THEY WERE VERY GEOMETRIC YET STRIKINGLY BEAUTIFUL AT THE SAME TIME.

02.3 VISITORS CENTRE
T H E B R I E F: TO DESIGN A VISITORS CENTRE LOCATED NEX T TO ROYAL CRESCENT,BATH. THE CENTRE MUST PROVIDE FACILITIES WHICH ENRICH THE EXPERIENCE OF THE CRESCENT. THIS PROJECT WAS PARTICUL ARLY CHALLENGING IN THAT, THE CONTEX T (BEING THE ROYAL CRESCENT) IS A HERITAGE SITE WITH TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF HISTORY. I WANTED TO TAKE A RISK WITH THIS PROJECT AND DESIGN A BUILDING THAT WAS BUILT AROUND ITS L ANDSCAPING AND THAT ACTED AS A GATEWAY TO THE CRESCENT.

02.4 FRAME
T H E B R I E F: TO DESIGN A TEMPORARY PAVILION THAT IS TO BE CONSTRUCTED USING A FRAME STRUCTURE AND CL AD IN METAL,PL ASTIC OR GL ASS. THE SITE IS LOCATED ON CAMPUS OUTSIDE THE LIMETREE CAFE. IT WILL BE USED FOR UNIVERSIT Y OPEN DAYS AND SHOULD EMBODY THE ARCHITECTURE DEPARTMENT. MY BASIC DESIGN IDEAS INVOLVED SUPERIMPOSING SHAPES WITHIN OTHER SHAPES. THE CL ADDING MATERIAL THAT I WAS GIVE WAS POLYCARBONATE WHICH I THOUGHT WAS SUCH AN INTERESTING MATERIAL. I EXPERIMENTED WITH COLOURS OF POLYCARBONATE TO DESIGN A VERY CREATIVE LOOKING PAVILION.
