The major school of thought suggests that very few Punchlines are inherently funny out of context. There is another school of thought (Actually Dave’s school of thought) that the opposite can be true. In this new show he will present evidence to support this. Dave will argue that you don’t always need a Punchline for a joke to be hilarious and suggests that if you doubt him, you should ask the bloke with the big orange head.

Mark Steel Date: Saturday 18th October Time: 8:00pm Ticket price: £16* All tickets *inc. £1 booking fee The ‘Mark Steel’s in Town’ show, based on the Radio 4 series in which I write a show centred around each town, has now been to at least five million places. It’s a sparkling verdict on humanity that I’ve mocked them all and somehow am still alive. I’ve stood behind a Londoner on a cliff in Dorset, who said to his wife “That lighthouse is getting on my bloody wick.” I’ve seen rivalries such as that in Corby, when I thanked a librarian for finding me a book and she replied ‘Yes, because here we’re not like those miserable arses from Kettering’. I’ve even read a book called ‘A History of the Railway in Didcot’ that starts “This book is in no way a history of the railway in Didcot.” For this show I’ve found dozens more towns to humiliate, as well as pledging to discover what makes your own town ridiculous. There will be pictures, and ranting, some people will call things out, and you’ll be a far better audience than the miserable arses from down the road.
As well as Mark Steel’s In Town, Mark has presented the BAFTA nominated Mark Steel Lectures for BBC2, is a regular on BBC One’s Have I Got News For You and Radio 4’s Newsquiz. He’s also appeared on BBC2’s QI and Room 101. He’s written several, acclaimed books, including: Reasons To Be Cheerful and What’s Going On and he writes a weekly column for The Independent.
Date: Wednesday 22nd October Time: 11:30am and 2:30pm Ticket price: £13.00* Adults, £11.00* Concessions, £39.00* Group Rate *inc. £1 booking fee
