2023-2024CULTURE BOOK

As we continue our journey at Baltimore Country Club, I want to take a moment to reflect on the essence of what makes our Club truly exceptional: our people.

At BCC, we have always believed that “Great People Make Favorite Places.” This simple truth isn’t just a tagline; it’s a guiding principle that shapes every interaction, decision, and experience within our establishment.

Our commitment to providing unparalleled service, creating memorable experiences, and fostering a sense of belonging among our members and guests hinges on the dedication, passion, and professionalism of each and every one of you. Your hard work, enthusiasm, and positive attitude are the cornerstones of our success and the driving force behind our vibrant culture.

As we navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, let us reaffirm our shared commitment to upholding the values that define us as a community. Please continue to treat each other with kindness, respect, and empathy, recognizing that our differences make us stronger as a team.

I encourage each of you to embrace your role as ambassadors of our Club’s culture, both within our walls and beyond. By embodying the spirit of hospitality, collaboration, and excellence in everything we do, we can ensure that BCC remains a premier destination for generations to come.

Thank you for your unwavering dedication and contributions to our club’s continued success. Together, we will continue to make Baltimore Country Club a favorite place for all who walk through our doors.

Holiday Appreciation

oRnament decoRation station

To help gear BCC up for Christmas, we held an ornament decoration station over at Five Farms. Tentative at first with all the options, some were unsure how to go about the small project. After seeing others jump in on the action, staff started to loosen up and the room filled with laughter as everyone explored the crafts. In between the fun, we had festive refreshments for everyone to enjoy, such as eggnog, hot chocolate, and even ginger drop cookies!

Potluck at Roland PaRk

In December of 2023, there was chatter around the business office about favorite dishes, and the idea of a potluck was brought up. We held a small staff potluck over at Roland Park on a Monday to supplement the staff meal. Sharing a meal blossomed into an experience that bonded our cultures and individuality, across the table and across the departments. With everyone enjoying their time and recipes, staff are excited to welcome a quarterly potluck at Roland Park.

meRRy moments

All throughout the month of December, the halls were decked, and everyone was merry and bright. On Mondays, there was holiday trivia with questions related to staff and all things celebrating the BCC team. On any given Tuesday or Friday, staff were searching high and low for our Elf on a Shelf, Gaston. To keep us toasty, a Christmas café visited with all the fixings: syrups, sauces, pastries, fruit, and even candy! Though the treats were nice, what made the season so special was being able to take moments out of our day to come together. Thank you to everyone that celebrated December with us!

Valentine’s Day Chili Cook-Off

On Valentine’s Day, February 14, BCC held its inaugural Chili Cook-off. There were nine chilies lined down the hallway with plenty for everyone to sample and discuss. Before the votes were counted, it felt like the judgment could have gone either way, it all came down to one department—Culinary. With refined palates, the team deliberated over each submission. They left us in suspense, wondering who the Chili Champ would be. After careful calculation, we had our winners. In third place, Assistant Controller Chris Jeffers. Chris was not too familiar with the world of chili, but he had prepared himself and “That Chili” for this exact moment, and it more than paid off. In second place, we had a short rib chili from Bartender Jared Hedrick, a whizz culinary student with an aspiration to open his own restaurant one day. We can all say confidently that he has a bright future ahead of him. Drumroll please…our Chili Champs were none other than the dynamic bartender duo, Danny Coker and Gio Vargus with their Bacon Chorizo Chili, “The BCC!” Aside from their over-thetop, delicious dish, their teamwork and camaraderie were enjoyed by all. Congratulations to our winners, and thank you to our amazing staff for filling our hallways with laughter!

Mrs. Donahoo reached out to Brittany Lewis to help organize cupcakes at the pool for Tenley's 3rd birthday. Brittany assisted in organizing the cupcakes and purchased a "3rd birthday" Sash and Tiara for Tenley to wear. Furthermore, Jessica Noffsinger in Communications designed a card for Tenley that matched the mermaid theme of her birthday and Madison Hill provided a mermaid towel and tattoos as a gift. Brittany went even further to have Lydia design her birthday cake similar to the mermaid card that Jess designed. Thank you for making my 3rd birthday extra special! The pool cafe staff were awesome and the cake was gorgeous!

Sadly, Chef Mike Wilkinson’s close friend passed away. He was not in the right head space and feeling down, Lydia Eichhorst took it upon herself to create a one of a kind care package to help boost his spirits. This package was greatly received and defiantly heartfelt. Thank you to Lydia for being a true image of why "Great People Make Favorite Places."

Kent Johnson and Bri Boncaro had been in communication with Mrs. Leslie Rose and learned that she was not frequenting the Club as often because she was really struggling with the loss of her mother. Bri purchased a beautiful frame and provided a photo of Mrs. Rose and her mother to have printed/gifted with a card to Mrs. Rose on her next visit to the Club. Unfortunately, a lot of time passed before we saw Mrs. Rose at the Club again, but we were able to place the gift on her table for her dining reservation. Mrs. Rose was really appreciative of the thoughtful gesture.

"I am not suRe who was ResPonsiBle foR the lovely gift left at my taBle last night, But thank you so much. that is my favoRite PictuRe of me and my mom. eveRy time I look at that PictuRe I know that Right afteR that PictuRe was taken my mom came in with heR signatuRe kiss and hug. heR Passing has Been haRdeR on me than I eveR exPected, But having the continued love and suPPoRt of fRiends who aRe moRe like family is Beyond comfoRting. this PictuRe now has a Place of honoR in my family Room (and the fRame is Beautiful!)."

Abby Michael learned that the Blick family was vacationing at Disney following the Thanksgiving Holiday. The Blick's are currently on the membership waiting list and had ordered a Thanksgiving to-go meal. To show support from the Club while they wait, Abby put together a Bon Voyage—Have fun at Disney kit that included a mini mouse backpack, pin collectible lanyard with pins to get started, and an activity kit for the airplane. This was presented to the Blick's on their to-go pick-up to help show them what BCC is all about and give them something to look forward too in joining the Club.

The Racquets Team learned that Mrs. Murphy's two-year old son, Evander, had been recently diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. This diagnosis is life changing for the family and will require Mrs. Murphy to step away from the frequency at which she was attending group tennis lessons until they become more comfortable with this new lifestyle. The Racquets Team will miss Mrs. Murphy and wanted to show support for the family. They created a gift basket with a gift card for $80 towards her next Group Tennis Lesson. Additionally, the basket included the book "Tyler, The Type 1 T-Rex", a book for kids that explains Type 1 Diabetes. To match the book, a stuffed T-Rex was also included for Evander. Lastly, Mrs. Murphy had to cancel her January Uncorked reservation because of the diagnosis. We provided a red wine from the event in the basket.

Green Spring Country Club was hosting the Maryland State Mid Amateur on Monday and Tuesday. The blower they needed to prepare the courses was broken. The repair on the blower could not be ready for the tournament and BCC offered to lend a blower for the event preparation. When Doug from Greenspring went to hook up his trailer to pick-up the blower, he realized that he had a flat tire. Mike Stanton upon learning this news, did not hesitate to hook up the BCC truck and trailer and deliver the blower on Sunday afternoon to Greenspring, just in time for Monday morning. Thanks to these efforts, Doug expressed to BCC that the Maryland Mid Amateur was a success and they were able to get the course in great condition for the tournament. They were so thankful for our quick efforts without hesitation. Mike knows how important it is to get started right away when preparing a course for a tournament. Getting him the blower on Sunday was the right thing to do.

“I couldn’t Believe that mike offeRed to BRing it oveR so fast, no hesitation, it was a sunday afteR all.”

Mrs. Lindsay Vane contacted Madison Hill because she was no longer able to attend the Fall Planters Workshop class due to her mother's illness and the time commitment to help her mother. Madison asked Cathy Wagner if she would be willing to put together Mrs. Vane's planters so that the Club could deliver them to her home at no charge. Casey Schell overheard Madison speaking to Cathy and lives nearby Mrs. Vane. Cathy put together the potters and Casey delivered to the home.

“I’ve Been meaning to send this email foR a week! you have Been on my mind, eveRy time I look at these Beautiful PlanteRs. thank you so much foR the thoughtful gestuRe. thank you foR youR kindness and a Big sPecial shout out to casey foR dRoPPing these goRgeous Pots off. thank you again—you aRe wondeRful at youR joB. haPPy fRiday!”

Ryan Moeller was requested three days prior to the 125th Anniversary Gala to make a decorative front and siding for the Gala stage. Ryan took his own personal time at home and late nights to get this project done in time for the members/gala.

Garrett’s hamster, Harry, passed away and Mrs. Flamholz posted a RIP on Instagram. The club had a cute ornament made in Harry’s honor, to remember his short hamster life.

Mrs. Chilcot contacted the Club that their dog had eaten one of their gingerbread houses overnight and was wondering if the Club had any extra houses that the Chilcot's could decorate, as she knew her daughter would be upset to wake up to this news. The Club not only gave the Chilcot's a new gingerbread house, but had also recently learned of the adoption of their new puppy, named Tilly (great name for a BCC Member), and gifted the family a collar with the BCC logo on it for Tilly to grow into.

Leighton Zink's family made a reservation at the Club to celebrate her birthday. Abby Michael reached out to Vince to find out what things Leighton links and Vince Posterli was filled with awesome ideas. She likes sloths, Taylor Swift & milkshakes. Jess Noffsinger designed the most perfect Sloth/Taylor Swift mash up birthday card for Leighton. The card along with balloons and flowers were left at the table to surprise the Zink's. The card was a huge success!

What sets Baltimore Country Club apart from other country clubs? Our people! Our staff members take every step to go above and beyond to accomplish our Simple Truth: Great People Make Favorite Places. Often, there are easy ways to make a positive impression on our members from saying happy birthday to congratulations on an award. However, not being afraid to make the big gestures is what distinguishes us.

Rachel BaRnes found Photos of mR. Bill walteR and his gRandsons at the Bcc gRand Re-oPening event. as a chRistmas suRPRise, BaRnes had coPies of the Photos PRinted and fRamed. additionally she gifted the walteR families a chRistmas oRnament of a hawk (mR.
