Green Folder Stories

What is a Green Folder Story?

Green Folder Stories are about sharing moments where a Baltimore Country Club (BCC) staff member has made an impact on someone's life or did something unique to help create a special memory. The act of recording these moments is essential to inspiring others and instilling The Simple Truth into our culture.

The phrase “The Simple Truth” derives from a book called The Simple Truth About Your Business: Why Focused and Steady Beats Business at the Speed of Light by Alex Brennan-Martin. Brennan-Martin is a member of the famous Brennan restaurant family, owners of Brennan’s of Houston and Commander’s Palace, New Orleans. The Simple Truth drives the company’s culture—it’s a guiding phrase.

BCC’S SIMPLE TRUTH:

Great People

The Simple Truth: Great People Make Favorite Places is BCC’s way of expressing our Club’s member service philosophy. The concept of Great People Make Favorite

Places encompasses the crucial attitudes, values, and hospitality ideals we implement on a daily basis. Roland Park and Five Farms are the homes of Baltimore Country Club, and the members who use these facilities are its families and guests. We strive to treat them with the same warmth, consideration, and courtesy as our own. It is about establishing genuine relationships with our members, taking care of people, listening to them, and truly connecting on a personal level.

BCC’s Core Four are four actionable value statements that ensure the team is always working towards creating exceptional experiences at all times. These collective experiences are what make Baltimore Country Club so special to not just our members but to our staff.

BCC CORE FOUR

1. Do What’s Right, Not What’s Easy Take ownership & be accountable

2. Empowerment Through Opportunity Be impactful with your actions

3. Build Genuine Relationships Engage, be passionate, present, & empathetic

4. Be Extraordinary Going beyond expectations is the standard

WEDDING ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

The Linaweavers found themselves on the waitlist for our highly soughtafter Dueling Pianos event, a disappointment compounded by the fact that they were seeking a memorable way to celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary. Our Member Relations Team saw this as an opportunity to make a special memory for the Linaweavers. Member Relations Supervisor Madison managed to rearrange the event seating diagram to accommodate the couple. Member Relations Associate Sharon, in turn, arranged for a single stem rose and a custom card made by our Graphic Designer Jess to welcome the couple at the event. To tip it all off, the Dueling Pianos performers graciously acknowledged the couple’s special anniversary during their performance.

CLUBHOUSE SWITCH UP

COCKTAIL RE-CREATION

“A member recounted an intriguing experience at a cocktail bar during a recent trip, where they enjoyed a Luxardo/Fabbri cherry foam topping on their cocktail. I was intrigued and told the member that BCC was up to the challenge of re-creating this unique foam. I started doing some research and quickly realized that I’d need to leverage the team, a subject matter expert on culinary solutions and techniques—so I approached Chef Dan for his expertise, acumen, and insight. He was able to offer three approaches to creating the foam. After collaborating on the logistics, Chef Dan executed: 6 oz Fabbri juice, 3 oz lemon juice, egg whites, and the kitchen’s whipping siphon. The member loved it and it was the highlight of my week getting to consult and collaborate with a coworker to make it happen!”

Mr. Subin arrived at our Roland Park campus prepared to play golf with a member, equipped with his golf bag, and aiming to tee off at 8:30am. However, Staff Accountant Anupa kindly informed him that he had mistakenly arrived at the wrong campus and gave him with the correct address to our Five Farms campus (a 15-minute drive away). Upon learning that he had traveled from New York, taking a train and then an Uber to reach Roland Park, she promptly offered him a ride to the correct campus without hesitation.

SO CRATE-FULL

Director of Golf Greg Jones received an email from Mr. McCue asking about a driving range mat for his backyard. Greg put Mr. McCue and me in an email so I could give him more information about the driving range mats I installed here at the Club. He decided that the mats we have would be perfect for his backyard. Luckily for him, we had some extra mats from the project that we could sell him. When we discussed the details of when he could stop by a pickup the mat, he asked me if we had any extra golf ball range crates we used a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, we didn’t. They were all old and falling apart at the time, so they were tossed. I decided to make him one. I had the wood at home, and the tools. I didn’t tell him I was going to make it. Saturday morning, he was going to play golf. We decided that we would meet in the parking lot before his tee time to load up the mat. He was very happy to have a mat for his backyard finally, but when I pulled out the crate and told him I made it, he couldn’t believe it. He was thrilled!

WE’RE BLOWN AWAY!

Green Spring Country Club had the honor of hosting the Maryland State Mid Amateur. Unfortunately, their pullbehind blower, essential for course preparation, was out of commission. The repair on the blower could not be ready for the tournament and BCC offered to lend our blower for the event preparation. When Doug from Greenspring went to hook up his trailer to pick-up the blower, he realized that he had a flat tire. Mike Stanton upon learning this news, did not hesitate to hook up the BCC truck and tralier and deliver the blower on Sunday afternoon to Greenspring, just in time for Monday morning. Thanks to these efforts, Doug expressed to BCC that the Maryland Mid Amateur was a success and they were able to get the course in great condition for the tournament. They were so thankful for our quick efforts without hesitation. “I couldn’t believe that Mike offered to bring it over so fast, no hesitation, it was a Sunday after all.” Mike knows how important it is to get started right away when preparing a course for a tournament. Getting him the blower on Sunday was the right thing to do.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE

Events Manager Lauren was helping Dr. Grill and his family plan a Celebration of Life the first weekend in August. The family had asked Lauren to check with our florist Radebaugh to see the pricing on a selection of very small arrangements for the tables. When Lauren found out the prices were too high, she knew she wouldn’t burden the family with a costly expense for such a small amount of flowers. Therefore, Lauren went on to find a collection of small vases in the events closet and, on the morning of the reception, bought flowers herself and handmade the arrangements for the family during such a difficult time. Lauren went above and beyond to make a family smile during a tremendously sad time.

ROADSIDE HEROES

SAVING THE DAY

“BCC keeps blowing me away and I cannot thank you enough for hiring such amazing people. Last night as I was walking up from the parking lot, my shoe broke. There was no convincing a five and two-year-old to circle back home and everyone I messaged had already left their homes and could not bring me shoes. As I walked up to the Independence Day Celebration event barefoot and flustered, Madison came to my rescue. I thought she might scrounge up a spare leftover something in the clubhouse but she went completely above and beyond and ran to Old Navy and bought me flip flops! I was able to safely maneuver the rides and enjoy the night in comfort because of her kindness.”

One day following thunderstorms and lighting, Justin and Mark inspected the West Course to survey the property and assess any damage. On the way back to the Grounds Maintenance facility, they noticed a tree down on Jenifer Road. They grabbed two chainsaws and the appropriate safety gear without hesitation and returned to the road where a county police officer met them. Justin and Mark offered to clear the tree from the road, much to the officer's delight. The officer then blocked the road and turned on his lights, allowing Justin and Mark to safely remove the tree, permitting traffic to proceed safely around the community. Justin and Mark's quick action to help following the disruptive storm showed that they are invaluable assets to BCC and the surrounding community!

MAKING ROOM FOR A MEANINGFUL DINNER

“Last Thursday, I learned that a dear friend of ours tragically lost her father. After speaking with her about this unexpected loss, I asked if she and her husband would like to join us for dinner on Friday night. Clayton and I already had a 7:00pm reservation at BCC, which I had made online earlier in the week. At the time, I noticed that dinner reservations were full, but I decided it was worth calling to see if there might be space for the four of us. Maison answered the phone, and she could not have been more compassionate and accommodating! Not only did she adjust our reservation, but she also took the thoughtful initiative to have cut flowers placed on the table, accompanied by a handwritten note for Mrs. Tunney. We were all deeply touched by this selfless act. We are incredibly grateful for Maison’s thoughtfulness and kindness.”

VALET AT YOUR SERVICE

On a Friday in December, two elderly handicapped ladies drove their vehicles past the Welcome House attending the Lortz Bridge game day. Both ladies requested valet service due to their physical condition and the cold weather. Valet service was not available at this time, so a staff member volunteered to park both of their cars so they could enter directly through the Club's main entrance without having to walk from the parking lot. Both women were extremely happy and thankful.

A FESTIVE TREAT

PACKERA AUREA

“Mr. Cannon was warming up at the range and noticed a flowering ground cover he admired. He asked me what it was. I told him it was Packera Aurea. He said he really liked it and hoped to find some for his house. Knowing that this native plant is not often available at retail I offered to share some. I asked where he was parked and what his car looked like and left him a flat by his car for when he finished his round.”

I thought you should know an amazing thing that happened this evening with one of the staff members at BCC. Brittany truly floored my family this evening. Sorry in the advance for the lengthy email but I have to set the context. Tuesday evening of this week Declan, Caroline and I were at the Petite Bistro having dinner. The kids were talking to Brittany about our “Fall Dinner” we were having at as family this evening. They were telling her we were theming it with “Fall Colored Food” and were asking her opinion on what items we should have on the menu.

This evening at 6:00pm we heard a knock on our front door to see Brittany standing there with six cupcakes of course orange to accompany our Fall Dinner. What an amazing act of kindness and thoughtfulness. I am not even sure what else to say but we were all floored! Really really above and beyond!

SHE SAID “YES”

In May, a young gentleman, Matt, called the BCC front desk requesting permission to enter the BCC Staff parking lot to propose to his girlfriend. The BCC Staff parking lot was significant to this couple because his girlfriend had been a BCC employee a few years prior and Matt had asked her to be his girlfriend in the parking lot. Matt was not only granted permission to access the lot, but Clubhouse Services Manager Aidan Dougherty stepped up to the plate to capture video of this momentous occasion. It was extremely special that Aidan was able to capture this significant moment for the couple as she said “Yes!” The Club also provided flowers as a congratulatory gift to the happy couple.

GOING TO DISNEY

Abby learned that the Blick family was vacationing at Disney following Thanksgiving. The Blicks are currently on the membership waitlist and had ordered a Thanksgiving To-Go meal. To show support from the Club while they wait, Abby put together a "Bon Voyage—Have fun at Disney!" kit that included a Minnie Mouse backpack, pin collectible lanyard with pins to get started, and an activity kit for the airplane. This was presented to the family when they came to pickup their to-go order as a way to show them what BCC is all about and give them something to look forward to when they officially join the Club.

SANTA’S COMING TO TOWN

In November 2020, we learned that Madden would not be able to attend the Santa Party because she is at risk for COVID due to having lung surgery. Consequently, the family had to unfortunately cancel their reservation. To brighten their holiday spirits, we stopped by with Christmas cookies, a little stuffed Santa and reindeer toy, and the big man himself—Santa! She was a little star-struck but super excited that Santa came to visit her house so close to Christmas!

PARENTS WEEKEND SURPRISE

The Peltier's were registered for the Club’s 125th Anniversary Gala but reached out to let us know that they are unable to attend because they were invited to their son's Parent's Weekend as UCCS. We canceled their registration at no charge. Abby organized Mom/Dad hats to be sent to the Peltier home to take with them on their trip. Their son attending university is a big deal for the family and they were surprised to have received the invite to Parents Weekend so we wanted to help continue to excitement!

PLANTER DROP-OFF

Mrs. Vane contacted Madison because she was no longer able to attend the Fall Planters Workshop due to her mother's illness and the time commitment to help her mother. Madison asked Cathy if she would be willing to put together Mrs. Vane's planters so that the Club could deliver them to her home at no charge. Casey overheard Madison speaking to Cathy and mentioned she lives nearby. Cathy put together the potters and Casey delivered them to Mrs. Vane’s home.

ARUBA AT HOME

Kent learned that the Goetschius family was going to have to cancel their Aruba vacation due to COVID. To recognize this tough situation, Abby and Kent jumped into action, organizing a bunch of tropical gifts, drinks, flowers, etc. To make the Goetschius COVID quarantine feel as much like Aruba as possible. Chris and the bar team also threw together the Aruba Ariba cocktail, the welcoming drink of Aruba!

ANGEL MINNIE

COVID CARE PACKAGES

During the COVID-19 quarantine, our team was brainstorming ideas of how to engage membership. Realizing we had a population of members living at surrounding nursing homes who may not had been able to participate in our virtual or curbside offerings, Payton decided to bring BCC to them. She worked with Rachel to get a list of members at homes, Jess to print the digital activity book and postcard, and Chef Lauren for a dessert. She also included handwritten notes and worked with the local nursing homes to have them delivered in a safe manner.

Right before our Game Night events, Mrs. Dripps learned that she would have to say goodbye to her favorite pal, Minnie. Mrs. Dripps was distressed calling the Club and we understandably canceled her reservation at no charge. A few weeks later, we mailed Mrs. Dripps a mixtile watercolor painting of her dear Minnie to keep in remembrance of her beloved pet.

VENDOR APPRECIATION

While the paper delivery person was unloading in the snow, Melissa asked if they wanted something warm to drink, made them a cup of coffee, and had it ready and waiting for when they were finished unloading.

MINT-TO-BE

Mr. Miller walks into the Club excited every Trivia Night to grab a handful of BCC Mints to stuff in his pockets. One Trivia Night, Abby recognized this and wanted to be able to give Mr. Miller all of the BCC mints he could desire. Abby ordered a custom candy jar with his name and ordered him his own box of BCC mints. Mr. Miller was full smiles when he received his gift.

AN ENGAGEMENT SURPRISE

Mr. Minutoli got engaged in Rome. Kent was aware of this special occasion and had the Events Team and Abby organize a BCC wedding box (includes BCC wedding venue information, champagne flutes, and BCC cookies), along with a fancy bottle of champagne and framed engagement photograph. This gift was delivered to Mr. Minutoli's house on the day he was arriving home from Rome so that BCC could be one of the first to congratulate him!

HOLIDAY COMFORT

GET WELL SOON BASKET

Taryn King, a relatively new member of the Events Team, is in her first year of managing the bowling leagues at Roland Park. During one of the Ladies' Tuesday Morning Bowling sessions Taryn observed that Mrs. Wilhelmson was wearing a sling, and learned she was unable to bowl due to dislocating her shoulder over the weekend. Taryn decided to put together a care basket for her that included a BCC logoed basket, teas, a bowling pin mug, and a kind note. Mrs. Wilhelmson was so thankful she even told Taryn that it was worth dislocating her shoulder to receive the basket.

Mrs. Stalfort felt that the first holiday dinner she attended was one of the best in recent years and stated that she has been attending since she was a child. Soon after, Mrs. Stalfort had to cancel her next buffet reservation because her husband had fallen ill with pneumonia and was hospitalized. She was so disappointed to not be able to attend. We sent flowers to the home to brighten the remainder of her holidays.

PHOTOS WITH SANTA

Mr. Passano had been in touch with Abby to create his Children’s Santa Party reservation and requested help in receiving copies of his Santa Party photos from the previous year. Abby was able to send Mr. Passano digital copies, but also printed and framed some of the photos for his table at the event upon their arrival to the 2024 party.

A HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

Tim ran into Mr. Cannon in the parking lot tonight and Mr. Cannon mentioned that he would not be at the Board Meeting because he and his wife were celebrating their wedding anniversary. Tim and Abby organized flowers, chocolate-covered strawberries, and a card. Tim delivered to their home on his way home from work.

DINNER’S ON BCC

KINDNESS HELPS YOU HEAL

Charlie, a member’s child, recently broke his collarbone. On the same day, Janine, our Director of Fitness, learned about his injury, even as she was recovering from her own hip surgery. Recognizing the need to support the family, the Club quickly organized a thoughtful gift basket for Charlie, including a BCC beanie, Oreo cookies, and a fun tabletop game to keep him entertained while he recovers and is unable to participate in sports.

Charlie sent a handwritten note of thanks to Janine!

One night in December, Kent made the night of a longtime BCC guest. Kent was dining at Cece’s, a local restaurant, when one of my clients, who has long visited BCC as a guest, walked in with her husband. They chatted with Kent for a bit before sitting at the bar to order dinner. Much to their chagrin, they had been socializing for so long that the kitchen had closed! Kent overheard, called BCC and, within a flash, two to-go dinners were delivered to my hangry, and very grateful clients, who were still at Cece’s.

A CASE JUST IN CASE

Sharon was hostess in À la Carte and overheard the Rose party discussing a waterline break in their neighborhood. They did not know how long they would be without water. Sharon asked Brittany if she was allowed to give the Roses a case of water to take home in case they needed it. Mrs. Rose provided feedback in her dinner survey that she was so grateful Sharon found a table for them at the last minute and especially surprised when given a case of water to take home.

A SWEET BIRTHDAY SURPRISE

During the WGA Evans Scholars Selection Meeting on February 5, 2025, Nick Cannon informed me that it was one of the finalists’ birthdays—a tall guy in a red tie. It turned out there were two finalists matching that description. After speaking with the WGA team, we confirmed it was Chett. Since the candidates were departing soon, I asked Chef Dustin if we had anything available at Five Farms that we could put together quickly. He grabbed Geraldine, and together they prepared a panna cotta with strawberries on a Happy Birthday plate. It was presented to Chett, and the candidates sang Happy Birthday. He was both embarrassed and grateful. The WGA team was impressed by the thoughtful gesture.

Build Genuine Relationships

Engage, Be Passionate, Present, & Empathetic

PALLET SHARING

I follow First Fruits Farm on Facebook, and saw they were looking for pallets to help facilitate distribution of their harvests to those in need. Knowing that we had many pallets we weren’t using at our Grounds Maintenance facility, I ran it by our Head Greenkeeper Tim and he agreed so, I reached out and invited them to pick up what we had. Yesterday, Mark took time out of his day to load their trailer with 120 good quality pallets, and they were extremely grateful to be able to pick up so many in one place instead of having to run all over town picking up a few here and there.

FLAT TIRE HERO

On June 20, Dave, who works in the Bag Room, arrived at the Five Farms campus to enjoy a nice round of golf. When he pulled into the parking lot, he saw Lou, a member, dealing with a flat tire on his car. Dave did not hesitate to step in and lend a hand, despite being there for a tee time on his day off. Dave assisted Lou in changing his tire, and helped him get on his way. Dave went above and beyond, going out of his way, when he could've ignored this situation, and simply went to golf. This left a positive impression, not only on the Club, but on Dave. Lou expressed his graciousness and appreciation.

SHARE IN THE PROPAGATIONS

I moved from San Diego to Baltimore with my wife and infant twins in December. When we moved he had our truck put on a flatbed and shipped over while we drove our SUV with the babies. Inside the truck we put all of our houseplants. In particular we had a huge beautiful monstera. The timing was horrible since the truck was shipped during the wicked cold front this year. When we received the truck all the plants inside suffered a horrible fate and died. Telling this story to Jessica over our lunch meet and greet, she mentioned she a had a clipping she would donate to me. Not expecting her the very next day she dropped off a beautiful replacement. My wife was so happy to see me walking in with houseplant. That act of kindness she showed was really wonderful and I'm grateful for her act of kindness.

PROPOSAL ON THE COURSE

Dennis McClimans, the groom-to-be, reached out to Kent in hopes of an inside job to help with his plotting and scheming of a proposal on the West Course. Jen reached out to Dennis to help plan out what he was thinking of doing. He spoke with Katie about the location on the golf course on where to do it and had her set up a tee time in the system for them. Dennis, the planner that he is, already solidified a professional photographer to document the entire proposal – all Jen and Katie had to do that day was get him in position. And that’s just what they did.

The photographer was running late, so Katie and Jen met him at the Welcome House so he wasn’t caught up at security, found him a parking spot (it was pretty packed that day), and had a golf cart ready for him to go out to the course. Katie and Jen tested a few spots out on the course to see what would be best for the photographer. When they finally found the best spot, Dennis and Jamie were driving down #12. Once they started putting, everyone hid. Dennis sunk his putt and then got down on one knee and the rest is history. Katie and Jen came out from behind a tree and popped a bottle of champagne and delivered to the happy couple. After snapping a few group shots, Katie and Jen drove the photographer back to his car and let the newly engaged couple play through.

Later that night, Dennis asked Jen to set up a reservation for dinner where all her family and friends would then join them. The team ordered flowers for the table with a hand written card, had champagne ready, and brought out a personalized dessert. The photographer then asked for a golf cart to drive back out on the course to get some sunset photos, which was easily accommodated.

ADMIRAL KEATS

For Admiral Keats’ birthday in January, the Communications team wanted to do something special for him. He had really enjoyed being on the cover of the Club’s magazine and had sent multiple copies to friends at other clubs so that they could read the article written about him. So, the team got together and had the cover of the magazine framed with a plaque that read: Rear Admiral Edgar Keats, A Beloved Member of BCC. They personally drove down to his assisted living facility and presented it to him while he told them stories about how it felt to be 104 and showed them photos from his 100th birthday bash. It was heartwarming to experience, and it meant a lot to everyone involved.

ICE CREAM PRESCRIBED

Brittany learned that three year old member, Ryder was going to undergo adenoids and tube surgery. Abby had reached out to my team (communications) to design a get well soon card that was truck themed. Reached out to pastry for some house ice cream. And then picked up a ‘Tilly the Bear’ from the golf shop. It was all hand delivered as he arrived home from surgery.

BIRTHDAY UNDER THE SEA

Mrs. Donahoo contacted Brittany to help organize cupcakes for Tenley's 3rd birthday at the pool. Brittany assisted in organizing the cupcakes and purchased a 3rd birthday sash and tiara for Tenley to wear. Furthermore Jess, in communications, designed a card for Tenley that matched the mermaid theme, and Madison provided a mermaid towel and tattoos as a gift. Brittany went even further to have Lydia in pastry design her birthday cake similar to the mermaid card.

SOUP MAKES IT BETTER

JENKINS MEMORIAL

The Club learned that the Jautze family had recently lost their family dog Jenkins. To recognize this difficult loss, Abby and Kent located a beloved picture of Jenkins and found a vendor to engrave the image into a keepsake light-up desk memorial for the Jautze family.

Mrs. Jautze wrote to Kent expressing her gratitude “Thank you SO very much to all who signed the card and/or had anything to do with this unique and wonderful gift. I truly, truly appreciate it. He was the BEST dog in the entire world and I miss him so much every single day.”

“I thought you would like to know what Jessica did for me today. I got sick with COVID Wednesday, and today I showed up virtually to do the workout with her. It was still hard as always because that is the type of trainer she is (I appreciate that quality). Anyway, I got a text from her around 12:30pm that she was dropping off something to me on my porch. She came by and dropped off chicken noodle soup for me that she got at Stone Mill. This was so sweet of her, and she said earlier in the workout that everyone should have chicken noodle soup when they feel sick. I just wanted to mention it to you, because it was so kind of her to think of me, to take time out of her day, go buy the soup, and then drop it off to me.”

WALLET MISFORTUNE

BCC was honored to host the wedding reception for Taylor and her now husband. Taylor, now enjoying newlywed bliss, had the unfortunate experience of having her wallet stolen at work. Sadly, her wallet contained all the gift cards given to her and her husband at their wedding a few months back. Taylor was, understandably, very upset and reached out to Jen to let her know she would be sending a deposit for an upcoming event later than expected. Jen, after developing a relationship with Taylor through wedding planning, jumped into action to make her feel better on an otherwise dark day.

Jen got together a few snacks, including BCC cookies, and a bottle of wine and dropped them off to Mr. and Mrs. Sweeney. Jen went above and beyond the capacities of any private event and made a member who already has many happy memories of BCC fall in love with it more.

NEW WHEELS

Janine recently had a client who was searching for a new vehicle. The client was frustrated with her search and therefor stopped searching. However, Janine had mentioned that if she was interested in resuming her search, that she had a few friends in the car industry who could assist her. Later, Alex had mentioned that she was ready to search again and shared with Janine the vehicle she was looking for. Janine phoned a friend with access to this vehicle/ that owned the dealership and that friend shared the name and number of whom Alex should call to assist her in her car buying experience. Two days later, Alex shared that this dealership had the car she wanted at a buying price that Alex was WOW’d by. Alex was extremely appreciative of her car buying experience and is excited to drive her new vehicle.

ACTING WITH KINDNESS

I was on the phone with member, Mr. Marcotte, discussing his options to transfer to Non-Active Golf while he undergoes cancer treatment. Hannah was in my office and as soon as I got off the phone, I shared details so that we could make note of his request for the September Board Meeting. Immediately she asked what can I do for him? She wanted to make sure that he was comfortable throughout his treatments and decided that a tote with a BCC blanket and a sweatshirt from the Golf House would be perfect. In all seriousness, within three-minutes she was in the Golf Pro Shop and found a cozy sweatshirt for him. I think what struck me, was how quickly Hannah acted. I commented on it and she simply mentioned that she knew it was being asked of her from a higher power. Blew me away- she went on to say that when something nice crosses your mind there is reason and you need to act on it because we so rarely do. So in short- listen to the positive thoughts and be more like Hannah.

TRANSITION OUT OF PHYSICAL THERAPY

Lila was getting ready to be discharged from physical therapy due to her ACL surgery and since Janine has been training her for years, she thought that it was best that she attended her last physical therapy session. Lila, her mother, and her therapist, all thought this was a good idea, therefor Janine attended an 1.5 hour therapy session to assure Lila that she was ready to transition out of physical therapy and continue her Golf Fitness focus training at the Club.

THINKING OF YOU

A HEARTFELT GESTURE

Sadly, Chef Mike's close friend passed away. He was not in the right head space and feeling down, Lydia took it upon herself to create a one of a kind care package to help boost his spirits. This package was greatly received and defiantly heartfelt. Thank you to Lydia for being a true image of why "Great People Make Favorite Places".

When starting the bowling season, I didn’t know much about Mrs. Adams. I had seen her a few times at Five Farms. I was shocked when she asked to have me in bowling with her, Mrs. Robinson, and the rest of the ladies. Over time I grew closer to her and we would have some good banter every Tuesday and when I would see her throughout the Club. She confided in me some personal anecdotes over time, one being the passing of her husband that has greatly impacted her life and feelings. Having lost a few loved ones, myself I understand some of the pain and struggle. I found out on what day Mrs. Adams husband's passing was and decided to do something for her. The next bowling Tuesday (Ladies’ Christmas bowling) I brought in a flower arrangement, thoughtful card that I wrote a heartfelt message in, and a new automatic wine opener for her (because she loves her morning Riesling). Thankfully, she was the first one to walk into bowling. I handed her the present exclaiming how wonderful she makes my work experience as well as how wonderful of a person she is to me. I also said although she has experienced loss, she has done so much with her life and I highly respect and look up to the woman she is. She gave me a tight hug with a few tears and showed deep appreciation. She deserves it and deserves to know many support and care about her. Losing a piece of you is hard and I can’t imagine exactly what her experience is like, yet she makes it through every day with a smile on her face and pep in her step. Truly remarkable.

ALWAYS KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN

“A few weeks ago my daughter had a baby. After a long few days in labor the baby finally arrived. He ended up in the NICU for 36 hours. We came right to the Club to grab dinner. We sat at the bar in the Grille and Tyler took care of us. I didn’t realize I still had the hospital name tag on my shirt which he made me aware of. He asked if everything was okay. We told him about our grandson and that it had been a rough day. A few minutes later he came with complimentary glasses of wine to congratulate us. It was so lovely and so appreciated and I wanted to share this with you. BCC continues to amaze us as it relates to exemplary service and how nice everyone is! Also, the baby and mom are doing great!”

CHRISTMAS COOKIES TO-GO

Mr. Carroll mentioned to Rebecca that the BCC sugar cookies at Christmas are so delicious that the Club should sell them. Rebecca remembered this as Mr. Carroll was joining us for the holiday dinner buffet and had a box of Christmas Cookies boxed up and at the table for Mr. Carroll to take home. This not only delighted Mr. Carroll but also impressed his guests!

MAKING THE TEAM

A GAME DAY TO REMEMBER

James, a dedicated culinary team member at BCC for over 30 years and a proud member of the deaf community, recently had the chance to attend a Commanders football game, his greatest passion. Joining him were fellow staff members Sharyl, John, and Tyler, who knows sign language, ensuring James, could fully engage in the experience.

The group enjoyed an exciting game, with the Commanders jumping to an early lead before narrowly falling to the Ravens. The tickets, generously donated by BCC member Mr. Bennett, created unforgettable memories. James was particularly thrilled and has been sharing a framed photo from the day with colleagues all week.

The team deeply appreciates the generosity that made this exceptional day possible.

Three of David’s tennis students made their Middle School tennis teams for the Spring. David organized grips, towels, and water bottles from the Pro Shop— he also put together Tennis Gift Bags with tennis balloons, stickers, bracelets, hair ties for the girls.

GUEST BIRTHDAY SURPRISE

Mr. Obrecht’s assistant, who always makes dining reservations on his behalf, told Patricia that she was invited to attend dinner in celebration of her birthday. Patricia requested that the Food & Beverage Team prepare a painted plate as a special birthday surprise.

REMEMBERING THE FAMILY DOG

Caroline, who trains Mrs. Fritze and has a close relationship with her, learned that the Fritzes’ dog, Tia, passed away unexpectedly in November. In response, Caroline commissioned a portrait of Tia to be framed and gifted to the family. She organized this thoughtful gesture during her first week on the job.

The Fritzes were absolutely thrilled with the portrait of Tia, and it is already hanging in Mrs. Fritze’s office. Mrs. Fritze texted Caroline saying, “Rarely do I cry on Christmas, but your gift had me in tears. Thank you so much for my most beautiful and thoughtful gift!”

PENN STATE CREAMERY

WITH LOVE, FROM BCC

Mrs. Rukert had to undergo surgery for a double mastectomy and many staff members wanted to send her our love and support. The Club organized a gift basket for Mrs. Rukert and sent a dinner to her home to help during her recovery period. Two cards were signed by staff and leadership to show her extra love.

Abby learned that Mrs. Flamholz's sister went to Penn State and that the family really enjoys Penn State Creamery ice cream. On Abby's last visit to Penn State, she picked up two quarts of ice cream for the Flamholz family and delivered it to Mrs. Flamholz so they could have a special treat they don't get to enjoy often!

Mr. Clark posted to Facebook that he recently adopted an adorable new puppy named Finn. The Club ordered a personalized basket for Michael and Finn that reads "Finn's Toy Store". It came stocked with a few toys and will be sent directly to the Clark household.

A RECOVERY PICK-ME-UP

One of Wade's Squash students was undergoing a shoulder surgery this past week. Wade wanted to show his support during Carter's recovery. We put together a basket including snacks and other fun puzzles/games that Carter can enjoy while he cannot be on the Squash court.

We received a very kind note from Carter's father: “I hope this note finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to extend my deepest gratitude for the incredibly thoughtful get-well care package you put together and delivered for Carter. Your gesture was not only generous but also a wonderful surprise that truly brightened his spirits during his recovery from shoulder surgery. It’s clear that your commitment to those you coach goes beyond just coaching them in squash; you truly care about their well-being. This kind gesture has deeply touched our family, and it reinforces how fortunate we feel to have you as Carter’s coach. Thank you once again for your thoughtfulness and support during this time.”

IN LOVING MEMORY

Rachel, our Digital Content Coordinator, found photos of Mr. Walter, who had recently passed unexpectedly, with his grandsons at the BCC Grand Re-opening event. As a Christmas surprise, Rachel had copies of these photos printed and framed. Additionally, she gifted the Walter families a Christmas ornament of a Hawk (Mr. Bill Walter's nickname) and had engraved "In Loving Memory of the Hawk" on the back of the ornament. This was presented to the Walter family with their Thanksgiving To Go order. The family was overwhelmed by the thoughtful gesture and thanked her individually.

THOUGHTFUL CONDOLENCES

“Yesterday afternoon, I received a note from Brittany asking if I’d be home in the evening, knowing I’m often traveling. I let her know I would be, and later that night, she arrived with three bags. Inside was a heartfelt note, a candle, a nonalcoholic bottle of wine, mocktail essentials, and an entire dinner made up of my favorite foods. But the most meaningful part was the card. It was signed by over 15 employees, each offering their condolences after the passing of my aunt. Earlier this year, I posted on Facebook celebrating my aunt’s life, who lived to be 102, and shared her three life philosophies: Good people, positive vibes, and a glass of wine each night with dinner. Brittany had noticed that post and took the time to respond in such a personal way. I was deeply moved, and even now, I am still touched by her kindness.”

Be Extraordinary

Going Beyond Expectations is the Standard

DOORSTEP SURPRISE

Stephanie has been recovering from a serious illness and I stopped out to see her because she wanted some advice to change her pots over to fall plants. Her health and mobility has deteriorated significantly. I thought she could use a little pick-me-up, so in addition to the advice for her pots, I went back today with a card from the grounds team and decorated her front porch and pots with pumpkins and gourds to bring her some cheer. It turned out to be good timing, because I was just finishing up as she was coming home from getting checked out after falling while trying to get some Physical Therapy. So she was feeling discouraged by her setback but she was very grateful for our kind gesture.

A SWIFTIE BIRTHDAY

Leighton’s family made a reservation at the Club to celebrate her birthday. Abby reached out to Vince to find out what things Leighton links and Vince was filled with awesome ideas. She likes sloths, Taylor Swift, and milkshakes. Jess designed the most perfect sloth/Taylor Swift mash up birthday card for Leighton. The card along with balloons and flowers were left at the table to surprise the her. The card was a huge success!

TYLER THE TYPE 1 T-REX

The racquets team learned that Mrs. Murphy's two-year old son Evander had been recently diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. This diagnosis is life changing for the family and will require Mrs. Murphy to step away from the frequency at which she was attending group tennis lessons until they become more comfortable with this new lifestyle. The racquets team will miss Mrs. Murphy and wanted to show support for the family. They created a gift basket and card/gift card for $80 towards her next Group Tennis Lesson. Additionally, the basket included the book "Tyler, The Type 1 T-Rex", a book for kids that explains Type 1 Diabetes. To match the book, a stuffed T-Rex was also included for Evander. Lastly, Mrs. Murphy had to cancel her January Uncorked reservation because of the diagnosis. We provided a red wine from the event in the basket.

A THOUGHTFUL REPAIR

A BIRTHDAY SURPRISE

While working with Lauren for a cake order for Mr. Gupta’s 40th birthday, Mrs. Gupta mentioned the theme was Star Wars and that she would love to have it presented while they were at dinner on Saturday evening. Lauren thought he deserved a more memorable cake presentation than just any normal presentation. She spoke with Dominic and asked if he would be willing to help. She ordered a Storm Trooper costume and Dominic dressed up for the presentation. The whole Gupta family thoroughly enjoyed the extra mile that went into the presentation.

Mrs. Gupta stopped me on her way out and said “My heart is SO full! You have no idea how special you all helped make his birthday! I can’t thank the BCC Team enough!”

Jahmali noticed a pair of street shoes that were in front of a locker and were noticeably very worn down and falling apart. Instead of just doing the normal cleaning, Jahmali took it upon himself to fix the shoes to the best of his ability and glued multiple pieces back down that were about to fall off. When Mr. Goodman came back from his round of golf, he noticed his shoes were in much better shape than how he left them. He mentioned to us that he actually had an appointment later today to get his shoes repaired and was ecstatic that Jahmali decided to fix them for him. He was extremely pleased and thankful.

A LITTLE CLUMSY

While climbing out of the pool during Summer Camp, Shalin slipped and hit his chin on the cement which caused some bleeding. Maureen went to clean him up and saw the cut was de Denise called Mr. Louis Manzo to wish him a Happy Birthday. We learned that Mr. Manzo is always in Florida on his birthday and requests to use his complimentary entrée upon his return to Baltimore in the summers. We let Mr. Manzo know that he can use the entree on his first visit back this summer. Denise mentioned in their conversations that he has not previously been able to answer the Club’s call on his birthday and really appreciated the kind gesture. We wanted to go above and beyond and sent a small birthday edible arrangement to Mr. Manzo’s house in Naples to let him know the Club is still celebrating with him today from afar. ep and thought he might need stitches. Luckily, Shalin’s mom, Mrs. Gupta, was already at the pool so Maureen was able to contact her right away. Maureen called ahead to let the Patient First center know the situation and that they would be expecting Shalin. It turns out that Shalin needed three stitches. The next day, Maureen drove to their house and dropped off a BCC summer swag bag and popsicles for Shalin, and even a gift for Mrs. Gupta since her pool time had been disrupted. Shalin immediately showed off his stitches to Maureen, and Mrs. Gupta sent two text messages and an email about how thoughtful the gift was.

WILDLIFE ADVENTURES

Kent, Abby, and Madison organized Wildlife Adventures to visit the Flamholz House for Avery who broke her arm and had four pins and a cast to repair. Avery had lost function in her dominant hand and was having a very difficult summer with limited activities to participate in. The family really appreciated the fun at home activity and the kids absolutely loved seeing the animals in their own home.

BRINGING THE CLUB TO OUR MEMBERS

KARY THE KOALA VISITS BCC

Connor was in charge of his class koala named Kary, for the weekend and he took him to BCC for family dinner. There were some specific dietary restrictions Kary had, so Chef Shaun was kind enough to make a special share plate for the family to enjoy with their special guest. Chef Shaun was even thoughtful enough to get special plateware and utensils made of bamboo just for Kary! After the meal was over, Chef was even gracious enough to invite the kiddos though the kitchen for a tour. This was a very special highlight of Kary’s weekend away from school; and I think it was special for Chef Shaun too!

Yeliza’s heart and spirit make so many people happy but today she brightened the universe for three ladies that are all at Broadmead. After receiving a letter from Bea Post (a 98-year-old member and former 9-hole participant) stating that she missed the Club, Yeliza decided she would take the Club to her. She asked for Kathy’s and my help in recruiting some 9-hole ladies to go with, which led to some information from member, Sally, that there were two other 9-hole golf ladies at Broadmead as well, Ann and Tippie. Yeliza organized lunches from the Club to be provided for the group and matching BCC blankets for the ladies to keep warm over the winter. The ladies were so appreciative for the gift of time, memories, blankets, food, and kindness. And this is all because of Yeliza’s heart! Even though these ladies haven’t been to BCC in a while, Yeliza spearheading this adventure will leave a memory with these ladies of a favorite place!

SAFETY FIRST

On Friday, we had a member fall in the fitness center while working out and hit his head. Janine attended to this member with first aid protocols. Janine recommended that this member not drive home therefor Janine drove this member home. The member's wife and Janine were in contact all evening as he was taken to Patient First per Janine's request. Both were very appreciative of Janine's care. On Saturday, Janine asked Brittany to help her put together their favorite BCC meals and brought over dinner to lessen the stress and take one thing off of their plate. "Thanks for dinner on Saturday - love you!" "Janine, we appreciate everything you have done!"

FROM FLOORS TO FRAME

For Christmas, I wanted to have a picture frame made for my fiancé. We found some online but they were extremely expensive. After speaking with Ryan and Dennis, they were happy to help. Dennis was able to use wood that I had left over from my hardwood floors so the frame matches the flooring in the house. Dennis made the frame in time for Christmas. This frame was made to fit a drawing that Abigail made last year which makes it even more special for her.

A GINGERBREAD MIRACLE

Mrs. Chilcot contacted the Club that their dog had eaten one of the gingerbread houses they decorated at the Club and was wondering if the Club had any extra houses that the Chilcot’s could decorate as she knew her daughter would be upset to wake up to this news. The Club not only gave the Chilcot’s a new gingerbread house, but had also recently learned of the adoption of their new puppy, named Tilly , and gifted the family a collar with the BCC logo on it for Tilly to grow into.

A CUP OF JOE ON BCC

Mr. Koch has been recovering well from a kidney transplant that he had last year around this time. As he was visiting his North Carolina home this past week, he became ill with pneumonia and was admitted to the hospital where they recognized he had a more serious virus that required twice daily treatments and a hospital stay. Recently, Mr. Koch has been frequenting the Golf House staff to visit for his morning coffee. When Madie learned that Mr. Koch was sick, she wanted a way to ensure Mr. Koch could still have his morning coffee while in North Carolina. On Madie's behalf, we sent a coffee gift basket with coffee and breakfast cookies for Mr. Koch to receive while recovering.

FROM BCC TO NAPLES, FLORIDA

Denise called Mr. Manzo to wish him a Happy Birthday. We learned that Mr. Manzo is always in Florida on his birthday and requests to use his complimentary entrée upon his return to Baltimore in the summers. We let Mr. Manzo know that he can use the entree on his first visit back this summer. Denise mentioned in their conversations that he has not previously been able to answer the Club's call on his birthday and really appreciated the kind gesture. We wanted to go above and beyond and sent a small birthday edible arrangement to Mr. Manzo's house in Naples to let him know the Club is still celebrating with him today from afar.

A STRIKING BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

Mrs. Evans called to reserve a bowling lane for a birthday celebration on Saturday, March 15. However, since they had a small group, they didn’t want to rent the entire space for themselves. I let her know that we would have open bowling on Sunday, March 16, and suggested they could celebrate then with a cake. She was happy they could still go bowling that weekend but mentioned they would go out to dinner on Saturday to celebrate the actual birthday and have a cake for that occasion.

Since they were still celebrating a birthday, I reached out to Chef Jallet and Gen in Pastry to see if we could make some birthday cookies. I also emailed Abby about getting balloons to decorate their lane. The Front Desk put the balloons together and sent them to Roland Park via van, and Marissa and Janu did a fantastic job setting everything up before they arrived! It was a great team effort to give them a special birthday bowling celebration!

MAKING EVERY GUEST FEEL SPECIAL

Mr. Burchell called to arrange a celebration for his son’s father-in-law’s birthday. His wife, Mrs. Burchell, is undergoing chemotherapy for ovarian cancer, but he wanted her to be part of the celebration. He asked us to make her a mocktail, but knowing she enjoyed Prosecco, we were able to get her a non-alcoholic Prosecco instead.

BURGER CUPCAKE

Brittany knew that the Lubin's were celebrating Jack's 24th birthday and that he only ever orders a BCC burger or filet when he dines in À la Carte. She wanted to make Jack's birthday special. Brittany coordinated with Lydia in pastry who made an extremely realistic-looking burger cupcake to surprise him with during dinner. The Lubin family loved it!
