How Can Yoga Support Your Mental Health?
By Rebecca Printen, Yoga Therapist
In our culture, there’s a strong focus on physical health and exercise. But what about mental health? Take a moment to ask yourself: Do I spend as much time caring for my mind as I do for my body? Did you know yoga has many physical and mental benefits?
Here are six mental health benefits of yoga:
▶ Enhances Mental Clarity - Regular yoga practice can lead to sharper focus and clearer thinking
▶ Reduces Stress - Yoga is known for its calming effects, which can help in managing depression, stress, and anxiety
▶ Improves Attention Span & Concentration - Yoga can help to maintain mental focus in everyday life
▶ Promotes Better Sleep - Relaxation techniques used in yoga can lead to improved sleep quality
▶ Boosts Mood - Regular yoga practice can lead to an increase of hormones thought to contribute to happiness and mental well-being
▶ Enhances Self Awareness - Yoga encourages you to listen to your body and mind, increasing self-awareness and promoting a deeper understanding of your emotions and thoughts
Can just 20 minutes of yoga make a difference? Absolutely! Short, daily yoga sessions can improve both strength and flexibility while also supporting mental health. Your practice doesn’t need to be long—just consistent. Remember, your mental health is just as important as your physical health, and they work together. Come try one of the yoga classes offered at BCC!
STAFF HIGHLIGHT
Rebecca Printen Alignment Yoga for Golfers Instructor & Yoga Therapist
I've worked in the industry for over 30 years, and at BCC for six years. With a background in occupational and yoga therapy, I have a deep understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the body. My classes are slow and deliberate, helping you find the right place in the poses that work for your body. All of my classes focus on correct alignment and settling the central nervous system.
I love what I do! Yoga has so many physical and mental benefits. Teaching yoga and offering yoga therapy is fun and I get to see the benefits with my students who practice consistently. They share story after story about how it’s changes their life.
MEMBER SUCCESS STORY
This past spring, I started the Alignment Yoga for Golfers class, and it has far exceeded my expectations. Not only have I noticed my muscles becoming stronger and more flexible, but I’ve also developed a greater awareness of my body and muscle positions. This heightened focus on specific muscle groups has improved my ability to achieve better alignment in my golf swing.
A huge benefit to the class is Rebecca's way of guiding and relaxing us into quietness, further enhancing the mind-bodyspirit connection, which is so important to me, especially in the fast-paced world in which we live.

The Sunlighten mPulse Smart Sauna is designed to offer a tranquil retreat for relaxation and rejuvenation. Combining the deep-penetrating warmth of infrared technology with the rejuvenating benefits of red light therapy, this four-person sauna provides an ideal space to detoxify and invigorate your body. Step inside to unwind and enjoy a peaceful escape that enhances your well-being and elevates your self-care routine.
WHAT IS INFRARED?
Infrared is the healthy, healing rays that come from the sun, the ones that feel like a hug. It also helps plants bloom. The right amount helps stems grow fast and strong. Everything in nature needs it to live. And we don’t get enough of it in our modern world.
3 IN 1® INFRARED WITH RED LIGHT
Your sauna should give you the right dosage of light and heat your body absorbs best so that you get the maximum health and longevity benefit. Unlike any other heater, the patented 3 in 1® delivers the perfect wavelength of each infrared wave, like dialing in a specific radio station. You get precise far, mid, and near infrared (now integrated with red light) wavelengths for optimal results.

THE CADDIE CORNER
CHEERS TO A SUCCESSFUL SUMMER SEASON
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members who participated in this year’s Member-Caddie Tournament. We had a fantastic turnout, with 24 members and 24 caddies competing in a Better Ball Gross & Net of Partners (Member-Caddie) on the East Course. The competition was played over 18 holes, followed by a cookout that was enjoyed by all. We even had some of our younger caddies forecaddie for their fellow caddies and member partners, which added a great touch to the event. This tournament is truly the highlight of our caddies’ summer, and with each passing year, it continues to grow. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event!
As our summer season comes to a close, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the members who have supported our Youth Caddie Program this season. This year, we had over 30 youth caddies, ranging from grades 8 through 12, caddying at the Club. The impact you’ve made on their lives is incredible. The life skills they are learning from their time with you are invaluable. Caddie Manager Brett Keller and I work closely with these young caddies, offering feedback based on your input from each round. It’s been heartwarming to see them grow and mature throughout the season.
I also want to acknowledge the success of our Youth Caddie Mentorship Program. We are incredibly grateful to the 30 member mentors who stepped up to guide and support our Youth Caddies this summer. Each mentor has taken one of our youth caddies under their wing, committing to taking them out at least twice a month for a round of golf, and conducting monthly check-ins to provide Brett and me with feedback on their experience. The program has been thriving, and we’ve even added a few more youth caddies for the fall season. If any members are interested in becoming mentors, we would love to have you involved. Please feel free to reach out to me directly.
In closing, the difference you are making in the lives of these young men and women by simply spending a few hours with them on the course is truly remarkable. For a glimpse into the positive impact, here’s a recent story from a round of golf shared by our members and their caddies.
BCC members Eileen Thompson, Kristin Chottiner, Maria Ford, and Amy O’Connor recently took four of our youth caddies for a round of golf. They requested four young female caddies, but as only three were available, they happily welcomed one of our young male caddies to complete their foursome. We assigned Simone Hackett (Bard HS), Mason Fisher (Towson HS), Autumn Nelson (Notre Dame Prep HS), and Tatyana Smith (Bryn Mawr HS) to their group.
After the round, I followed up to hear about their experience. Mrs. Chottiner shared that during the round, she asked the caddies, “We’re having so much fun, right?” Autumn replied, “This could be a movie!” Mrs. Ford added, “Best line of the day!”
Thank you to all who have taken a caddie this season, and we look forward to an active fall season!

SENIOR PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY
By John Vonei II
The Senior PGA Tour o cially began in 1980. It was renamed the Champions Tour in 2003 and the PGA Tour Champions in 2016. e PGA Senior Championship is the highpoint of the Tour’s ve major championships. e best 73 professionals are invited. e rst Senior Championship was played in 1983 at Canterbury Golf Club in Beachwood, Ohio. SPOTTED LANTERNFLY UPDATE
By Cathy Wagner, CPH, Director of Horticulture
The adult phase of spotted lanternfly is well upon us, as evidenced by the evasive hopping adults and their colorful squished bodies that dot so many walkways. Many who have high populations of this invasive pest have seen the effects of their excretion (aka honeydew) as surrounding plants and surfaces turn black with the sooty mold that grows on it. Fortunately, for otherwise healthy plants, the presence of lanternflies is little more than a nuisance.
At Five Farms, the population of spotted lanternflies has been steadily increasing over the past few years. However, we have not seen any detrimental impact on our specimen trees or gardens. Apart from physical control (stomp on sight), we opt not to target the lanternflies with any chemical controls which could negatively impact our numerous beneficial insects, including the BCC honeybees. Preliminary studies seem to show that over the course of a few years, populations tend to increase in a specific area then drop off suddenly. This is being partly attributed to the subsequent build-up of predatory insect populations, which ultimately help to achieve control. September through December, females will lay their egg masses, which can be found on almost any hard surface on your property, from tree trunks to patio
