A Message From The Board of Directors
Cramer Mountain Members,
It continues to be a busy time on the mountain. The board, management team and staff have been busy getting ready for the summer. The pool project and concrete steps and French drains are complete. The resurfacing of the tennis courts will begin this week and the pickleball court preparation is set to begin the first week of May with a two-week completion date, if the weather permits. When pouring the steps for the pickle ball courts, it was discovered that there was a drainage issue at the pool that pushed us to build a French drain and extend the retaining wall to eliminate further degrading of the concrete around the patio. The cabana will be fully operational on the first day of the pool opening. You may have also noticed new seating along the rail on the patios for members to enjoy lunch and look out over the pool. This has increased seating by 30 on the patio deck. You will also see a new remodel of the pool locker rooms, with new paint, tile, and changing stations. That area has not been remodeled since the original construction many years ago. As a reminder, there is no outside alcohol permitted at the pool or golf course. The club now holds the ABC license and it is critical to protect this valuable asset. There continues to be good work done by all the departments and the course and club are looking great. Please remember to sign up for the Mother's day brunch. It is selling out fast. Thank you for allowing us to serve you as we continue to strive to be the best family club in the region.
Regards,
Cramer Mountain Board of DirectorsFrom The Manager’s Desk
Only been here for a couple of weeks, but I already LOVE Cramer Mountain Club! And really, what’s not to love? This is a beautiful property, with nice members and all the potential in the world to be exactly what we want it to be…. A fine, member owned private Club! And I hope we can ALL agree… that is the goal!
I also want to thank all of you for the warm welcome you’ve given me in my first two weeks. As many of you already know (if I have met and spoken to you yet), my plan is to focus on the “membership experience” at CMC. We are going to make sure that all the employees are dedicated to giving personalized service to every member and guest, every day. They will be looking for ways to do “just a little bit more” than what is expected. “How can I make this interaction positive/memorable/special?”is the mindset I want all our employees to have. And I want it to be obvious! I want there to be a clear “feeling” when you come to Cramer Mt. Club. Warm, welcoming, happy. Now of course, that doesn’t mean that the answer will always be “YES” to every member request or recommendation. But it does mean that:
-We will listen
-We will answer your questions openly and honestly (or if we don’t know the answer, we will find someone who does, and they will respond to you ASAP) -We will always make decisions we feel are in the best interest of CMC and of the membership (as a whole). Not for a particular group or for the squeakiest wheel.
-We will do our best to keep you informed of what we are doing and why.
From The Manager’s Desk
Keep in mind that in almost every case, there are people who think we have “done the wrong thing” or “made a bad decision”. But my commitment is that we will be consistent in our objectives and will always try to consider all members when making a decision about our Club. And please give me your feedback on how we are doing in this regard! I mean it. I always want to hear from you, so give me a call or stop by and let me know how we are doing.
From a business standpoint, my goal is to move away from the “outside” activities/events such as non-member outings, paid rounds of golf, non-member parties and the like. If we want Cramer Mountain to be a true private club, the number of these non-member, money generating activities needs to be reduced. However, we also need to replace the revenue which these events bring in and which our club depends on at this point. So how do we become less dependent on outside revenue? The answer is simple and obvious. We need to grow our membership! Specifically, our full privilege (golf) membership. With more full members, we will have a stronger monthly dues income, more food sales, cart rentals, guest fees, merchandise sales, etc. etc. etc. And as we grow, we can cut back on the outside golf tournaments and other things that impact our members’ access to their club. BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP TO DO IT! I believe that the BEST way to grow a club is by referrals from our existing members. Your friends, family, neighbors and work associates are the people that we WANT to be fellow members at Cramer Mountain Club! In the next several weeks, you are going to hear more about our plans to increase the full privilege membership. This is the season when people join a club, Summer on the way, the days are longer, school will be out soon! In addition, the area around our club is growing and thriving! We can offer a GREAT Club, with a fun, welcoming culture, a gorgeous golf course and beautiful club amenities. And we have memberships available. You will hear a lot more about our Spring membership initiative in the days to come. THANKS EVERYBODY!
I look forward to seeing you at the Club!

Course Updates
What's been going on around the course
Broadcast fertilization of all bermuda grass has been applied
More drainage added to multi-use courts area
One of three irrigation pumps has been rebuilt
Pre-emerge has been applied to clubhouse grounds
Greens have been aerified, verticut, and topdressed
Multiple flowering plants have been added to beds around the course
All bunkers have been edged
The Hogzilla grinder is on site to grind all tree debris for usable mulch
Next month we will be sodding problem areas on greens
Stump grinding will continue
We will start prepping other weak and/or bare areas for fresh sod
As May temperatures rise we will begin a more aggressive verticutting and topdressing program to promote a faster and more true putting surface
This month we will start identifying the area's that sustained winter kill from the weeklong hard freeze we had this past winter. The areas we will focus on first will be greens, collars, and tee. We will prioritize accordingly and begin sodding efforts.
As always, please follow cart rules, fix divots, and your ball marks Thank you

Most of you have seen Mason as you check in for your round of golf. He always has a smile on his face and something funny to say. He spends his free time playing golf and building his landscaping business. If you are ever wondering why the drinks and snacks in the pro shop are always stocked, this is the guy to thank.

May is National Tennis Month, so be on the lookout for plenty of tennis opportunities through USTA and your local parks! As a matter of fact, there’s a big Cinco de Mayo themed tennis event and fundraiser happening in downtown Gastonia on Saturday May 4th 12pm7pm headed up by United Tennis Organization with USTA representatives in attendance as well. Our USTA Junior Teams are playing on Sunday afternoons, drop by the courts to check out the action and support your Cramer Mtn Club teams Men’s and Women’s Quads are underway on the clay courts as well as the Pickleballers on Monday nights at the hard courts We’re excited to have to hard court project underway soon and looking forward to our new courts for more pickleball and tennis opportunities down there!
The roster is basically set on May 11th for the Cramer Mountain Dive and Drive! This is a doubles tennis pro-am in the morning, break for lunch, followed by 9 holes in the afternoon with your partner to determine the winners. Looking forward to spending the day with the participants.
The summer camp schedule has been published and a couple weeks of summer camps are already full, still space left in some weeks though so please take a look at that flyer and get in touch to reserve your spot for camp.

The 2024 MGA season is in full swing! We have averaged 25 players in the Thursday night 9-hole dog fights and just had 15 participants in the Saturday morning dog fight on April 27th.
Look out for weekly emails to sign up for these. Note that the season long derby has almost completed the first of its three 8-week seasons. The final day to log a round for the first session will be Sunday May 12th.
The MGA charity tournament is also fast approaching – this will take place on Thursday May 23rd. The proceeds of this tournament will be donated to Webb Street School in Gastonia which serves students with cognitive impairments. The MGA needs folks to create and recruit new teams to enter but also to solicit donations and sponsorships. If you would like to learn more or offer support, please attend our kickoff meeting on Monday May 6th at 5:30pm in the clubhouse conference room. You can also reach out to Scott Shannon (704-668-6808) directly with any questions surrounding the tournament.
