Agian, horregatik diote toki bat bisitatzeko bi modu daudela. Bat bisitatzea da. Bestea, berriz, bizitzea.

Un destino puede ser solo un lugar o una forma de ser. Puede ser disfrutar de los mรกs maravillosos parajes o adentrarte en ellos. Respirarlos. Vivirlos. Sentirlos. Quizรกs por eso dicen que hay dos formas de conocer un lugar. Una es visitarlo. La otra es vivirlo.

Llegamos a la décima edición bajo el signo de la velocidad, de grandes avances tecnológicos y de la incursión de nuevos canales de comunicación que han supuesto un gran cambio en el modo de acercarnos a la montaña y, sobre todo, de compartir las historias que en ella vivimos. Por ello, desde el Mendi proponemos una vía tranquila para observar con calma la historia del alpinismo y la escalada de las últimas décadas reviviendo algunas de sus gestas más importantes. Retrocederemos hasta 1978 para homenajear con el Premio WOP a Peter Habeler, recordando la primera ascensión al Everest sin oxígeno suplementario. Pero donde queremos poner toda la fuerza simbólica de cumplir el décimo aniversario es en el reconocimiento a la historia escrita en la montaña por las mujeres a lo largo de ls últimos 30 años. Catherine Destivelle, Lynn Hill, Josune Bereziartu y Edurne Pasaban son máximas representantes del extraordinario esfuerzo, más allá de las dificultades técnicas, que las mujeres han tenido que emplear para ser referentes en un terreno habitualmente dominado por los hombres. Es nuestra misión transmitir la pasión y energía de todas estas mujeres y que sus relatos sean fuente de inspiración para las nuevas generaciones más allá del escenario de las montañas.

he Mendi is ten this year and we greatly wish to celebrate this decade. It´s been ten rewarding years throughout which we have shared our passion for the mountain and it´s culture along with all of you who form part of the Mendi family and the MendiZales. The tenth edition has arrived bearing the banner of velocity, enormous technological advances and the arrival of channels for communication which have brought about a great change in how we approach the mountain and overall how we share the stories we have lived on her.That is why we at Mendi, propose a calm observation of the history of alpinism and climbing of the last decades while reliving some of their most important exploits. We will take a step back in time to 1978 to pay homage to Peter Habeler recalling the first ascent of Everest without oxygen bottles. Where we wish to place all the symbolic focus of celebrating the tenth anniversary is on recognizing the history written by women throughout the last thirty years in the mountains. Catherine Destivelle, Lynn Hill, Josune Bereziartu y Edurne Pasaban are those who best represent the extraordinary effort, technical difficulties apart, which womankind has had to employ to be role models in a world that is habitually dominated by man. It is our mission to transmit the passion, the drive and the energy of all of these women so as that their tales and narratives be a source of inspiration for the generations to come beyond the back set of the mountains.

Jesus Mari Lazkano Pintura Departamentuko Irakasle Titularra eta Arte Ederretan Doktorea da Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatean. Hainbat erakusketa egin izan ditu Amerikar Estatu Batuak, Txina, Suitza, Indonesia Espainia eta Italian. 2016an, Europako Kultur Hiriburutzaren babesean, bere 40 urteeko ibilbidearen atzera begirako erakusketa antolatu zen Donostian. Berriki, The Artic Circle Fundazio amerikarrak zientzia eta artea uztartuz antolatu duen Ipar Poloko espedizio batean parte hartu du. Gaztetan eskalatzailea izandakoa, egun nabigazioari lotuta dago. Jesus Mari Lazkano es Profesor Titular del Departamento de Pintura y Doctor en Bellas Artes por la Universidad del País Vasco. Ha realizado numerosas exposiciones individuales en EEUU, China, Suiza, Indonesia, España e Italia. En 2016 y coincidiendo con la Capitalidad Cultural Europea de DonostiaSan Sebastián, se organiza una completa retrospectiva de sus últimos 40 años de trabajo. Recientemente, ha participado en una expedición científico-artística al Polo Norte, organizada por la Fundación americana The Arctic Circle. Escalador en su juventud, ahora está vinculado a la navegación. Jesus Mari Lazkano is Full Professor of the Department of Painting and Doctor of Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country. He has made numerous solo exhibitions in the US, China, Switzerland, Indonesia, Spain and Italy. In 2016, a complete retrospective of his last 40 years career was organized during the European Cultural Capital of Donostia-San Sebastian. Recently, he has participated in a scientific-artistic expedition to the North Pole, organized by the American Foundation The Arctic Circle. Climber in his youth, is now linked to navigation.

Her extensive and successful career in filmmaking includes producing award-winning childrens’ films about natural history, science, and conservation for National Geographic. Jack Tackle is a renowned alpinist known for his climbing in Alaska from the seventies crossing the threshold of the present century. He’s done over 35 major expeditions to Alaska and 17 first ascents. His expeditions include Mt. Everest West Expedition, Biafo Spires, Uzam Braak, and Biantha Braak (Ogre), in Pakistan, Cordilleras Blanca and Huayhuash in Peru, and Kashmir in India. Jack is a former three term Director and Treasurer of the American Alpine Club, and he is a certified AMGA Alpine Guide.

Paul Urkijo Paul Urkijo Alijo Zinema Zuzendaria da. 2008an, Arte Ederretan lizentziatu eta ikus-entzunezkoak, ilustrazioa eta infografia egiteari ekin zion, modu profesionalean. Dichosas últimas palabras… porque tras cuarenta años ¡todavía continúa allí! La mayoría de esos años los ha pasado dentro del organigrama del Banff Mountain Film & Book Festival. Actualmente es la Directora del Festival y la representante de Banff en la Alianza Internacional de Festivales de Cine de Montaña. Deb moved to Banff from eastern Canada in 1977, after completing a degree in economics. “I thought I’d come out west for one season of skiing and having fun before settling down to a ‘real’ job.” Famous last words… forty years later, she’s still there! Most of those years have been spent with the Banff Mountain Film & Book Festival. As Festival Director and the Banff representative for the International Alliance for Mountain Film.

In 2016 he wrote, produced and directed his first feature film entitled Errementari, a fantastic genre film based on the story of “Patxi Errementaria”.

1980ko hamarkadaren amaierako kirol-eskalatzailerik onena, Destivellerekin lehian. Bera izan zen lehena “The Nose” bidea era askean eskalatzen.

Lehen emakumea 9. gradua gainditzen. Emakumezkoen mundu mailako hainbat marka ezarri zituen eta gizonezkoen marka onenekin parekatua izan zen.

The publishing house, SUA, specialised in mountaineering, travel and cartography is celebrating it’s 30th anniversary, presents what most recently it has wagered on, that being Apps for smart phones. One of these APPS is the “Pyrenees Maps ensemble“APP with 3D cartography, developed by Miguel Angulo with in the field, suggestions and support by Gorka López.

The exhibition is centred on a collection of Foulards or Kerchiefs originating from some of the 200 examples from, the Turin “Nazionale della Montagna” Museum, all of them having in common, that they are inspired by mountains. The earliest, hark from the 20’s and 30’s though examples from this century are present. One can see creations by renowned fashion houses such as ; Chanel, Hermès, Prada, Givenchy, Gucci, Céline, Burberrys, Ralph Lauren, Escada…along with new contemporary designs by houses such as Lola Paltinger, Milleneufcentquatrevingtquatre, Étoile de Marie, Casali 71 y Charlotte Hudders, to name but a few. 89

La exposición muestra las fotografías realizadas con un dron por el profesional Santi Yaniz. ¿Fotografía? Simplemente, Dronegrafía.

The exhibition shows the work which the professional photographer Santi Yaniz has taken using his drone, is it photography or ‘Droneography’?

Kamera hegalariak basoan barneratu eta hurbiletik begira dezake, baina beti ere ikuspegi bertikaletik. Kamerografoak duen trebezia izango da gailuaren muga; izan ere, argazkilari ez ezik pilotu ere izan behar du. Drona tresna baliotsua da orain arte ezinezkoak ziren lurralde bisualak esploratzeko. El dron es una herramienta valiosa para explorar territorios visuales hasta ahora imposibles. Más allá del paisaje se explora en busca de señales, geometrías y sugerencias emocionales bajo un nuevo ángulo visual. Dronegrafías es un experimento en busca de nuevos puntos de vista. Y propone un debate: ¿Quién hace una dronegrafía? ¿El dron? ¿El piloto? ¿El fotógrafo?

The camera soars and flies amid a wood and takes close-ups but from a vertical perspective. Its limits depend on the cameraman’s expertise who must also be a pilot. The drone is a so valuable tool for exploring scenic territories which were up to now inaccessible. Over and above both landscapes geometric sites and what is visually exiting is the goal along with seeing it from a new view point. “Droneography” is an experiment which seeks to see things from a different point of view, new eyes. A debate arises; who is behind what is seen? The drone, the pilot? or the photographer?

CVCEPHOTO is organised by the Club Vasco de Camping Elkartea, a mountaineering club of Donostia-San Sebastián.

The meeting point for all the visitors, directors, participants, members of the organization, in which they have various exhibitions, can read books and magazines, meet with friends, share good times, know the story of the Sua publishing house -dedicated to mountain, nature and culture-, ... Every day there will be presentations of the Festival’s Official Section films by its directors, its protagonists and its producers. Professional and adventure experiences projects will be presented also at the Mendi Base Camp. In addition, courses, workshops and master classes are offered in different subjects. And meanwhile, you can take your coffee, tea or soda in the Aterpe Room.

No todo va a ser sufrir con el roce de las botas, las aglomeraciones en el camping y las paredes de escalada peleonas ¡Hay que reírse! Esta muestra que se expondrá en el Edificio Ensanche recoge viñetas del libro Montañas de risa de Norberto Fernández y la editorial SUA. Entre las diferentes situaciones que se muestran hay algunas que nos han pasado a todos y todas y otras son exageraciones del ilustrador, pero se trata de llevar las actividades de la montaña y el deporte al mundo de la risa.

It’s not all going to be sores and blisters because of the boots, the crowds of people at the campsites and having to fight for a place on the rock wall to be able to climb. We need a few laughs too! This exhibition of Norberto Fernandez’s work will be on show in the Ensanche building and the public will be able to enjoy the funnies from his book, published by SUA which reflect the situations which all we mountaineers have experienced at one time or the other, some exaggerated but most importantly mountains of laughs.

The Basque camping club “Elkartea” presents its CVCEPHOTO exhibition at the International Mountain Activities Photographic competition, at which 20 award wining photographs will be presented for this year’s edition.

Workshop ekimenean Metroan paratutako erakusketaren bisita gidatua egingo da, argazki bakoitzaren nondik norakoen berri jakiteko. Bisita horretan, gainera, argazkien egileetako batzuk ere izango dira, azalpenak ematen.

Durante el workshop se realizará una visita guiada por la exposición del Metro para conocer cada una de las fotografías y donde participarán también algunos de los autores de las mismas.

Throughout the workshop a guided visit to the exhibition in the Metro Bilbao stations will be organised so as to know and see the photographs and meet some of the artists behind the shutter.

Honez gain, maila goreneko eskalatzaile gazteak ezagutu eta hauen jarduera egokia izan dadin, lanean dabiltzan profesionalen garrantziaz jabetzea izango da helburua. Aurkezpena Ioritz Gonzalez-ek egingo du eta aholkularitza profesionalaren garrantziaz hitz egingo du. Ondoren Andoni Ormazabal lesioen prebentzioaz arituko da. Gianni Faggiana hautatzaileak ere parte hartuko du eta azkenik David Maçiak gazteen entrenamenduaz hitz egingo du. Ondoren, mahai inguru bat egingo da, bertan, Esther Cruz, Joxean Mulas eta hainbat eskalatzaile gazte (Eneko Carretero, Mikel Linacisoro, munduko txapelketan 3.a eta olinpiar jokoetarako sailkatua, eta beste batzuk) izango dira protagonistak, beti ere jendearen parte hartzea bultzatuz.

En este curso se dará a conocer, de la mano de expertos, qué es la escalada deportiva y la infraestructura y asesoría adecuadas que existen para practicarla. Además, también participarán escaladores jóvenes de gran nivel para contar su experiencia La conferencia comenzará con Ioritz González, quien hablará sobre la importancia de la asesoría profesional. A continuación Andoni Ormazabal tratará la prevención de lesiones. También intervendrá el seleccionador Gianni Faggiana y por último, David Maçià hablará del entrenamiento de los jóvenes. Una vez finalizada esta parte se realizará una mesa redonda con Esther Cruz, Joxean Mulas y otros tantos escaladores jóvenes como Eneko Carretero o Mikel Linacisoro. Siempre buscando la participación de la gente.

The talk will be headed by Ioritz González, who will explain the need for expert and professional consultancy and consultants. The coach Gianni Faggiana also will participate and to follow up, Andoni Ormazabal will cover the field of injuries and to finalise, David Maçia will give a talk about youth training. Following this up, a round table talk will commence with young climbers such as¸ Esther Cruz, Joxean Mulas, Eneko Carretero and Mikel Linacisoro the objective being to have the audience participate.
