Week 10 Journal: This week we proceeded the activity of ‘ detailing volume’. We visited the Oval Pavilion and explored the construction elements in perspective.

It is a 3D image which shows the whole building.

It is a timber frame building. This frame is very common in construction. Timber framing is a historic method of construction that uses lap joints or mortise and tenon joints, along with wooden pegs or dowels, to create a frame structure for a building and timber framing uses more primitive construction materials than those commonly used in stick framing. In addition, timber framing can be used to add beauty and rustic charm to the interior construction of a building, or it can be employed in the traditional manner, constructing the entire building with timber framing methods(Palmer, 2013). Timber is a good material because it is cheap and easy to get. Also, in the construction, it is a necessary element to form the building. we can use less labour to fix them together.

↓ This picture shows more details on the structure of the footing. There are steel stricks with yellow hats are used for reinforcement to support the timber timber to make sure that the building is stable.

On the other hand, reinforced concrete bars are put into the underearth to make a solid foundation for the new building after demolishing the old building. Like this picture below. I think a good foundation means that the new building is stable enough.

The top part of the building is a ramp with 15 degrees. It is a roof system of this building. We can see the rafters and beams. This slope will not store rainfall and it will allow water transfer to pipe which is in underneath and the pipe will transfer water to water tank as well.
