A boat rental and water experience marketplace has reported record business growth in 2021, achieving 700% year-on-year growth from January to April. GetMyBoat, which is supported by strategic investment partner, Yanmar, is currently reporting an annual run rate in excess of US$158MM, putting the company on track to send more than one million people boating before the end of the year. The Covid-19 pandemic has created a dramatic increase in the number of people taking to the water, and the company expects bookings to double during the busy summer months. To meet demand, GetMyBoat has also brought on thousands of new boat operators and is helping them find new customers and grow their fleets. “There has always been a significant desire for boating

experiences, but last year really amplified the need for customers to get out on the water quickly, easily, and safely,” said Bryan Petro, chief operating officer. “Due to travel limitations and lockdowns that continue in other parts of the world, I'm excited to say we have not yet come close to tapping our full potential. Many global markets are still at least partially closed, and we expect that our business will further increase in the coming months as more locations ease restrictions." GetMyBoat connects renters and boat operators directly through its app and offers boats in more than 9,300 destinations globally.

Volvo Penta acquires majority stake in ZEM Volvo Penta is expanding its capabilities in the electric market by acquiring a majority stake in the marine battery and electric driveline solutions supplier ZEM. ZEM has 12 years of market experience and a strong track record in Norway, said to be the most mature marine e-mobility market in the world. “Marine electromobility has a unique set of requirements,” explained Peter Granqvist, chief technology officer, Volvo Penta. “There are very specific considerations of utmost importance around the installation environment, safety, the use case itself as well as the current lack of charging infrastructure."

Electromobility ZEM's core team has a background in electromobility that dates back to 1993. In 2009, ZEM was founded as an advisor to the maritime and offshore sector to design battery and hybrid solutions and the company now serves the ferry, offshore supply vessel, high-speed passenger ship, lifeboat and aquaculture sectors. ZEM will remain operating under its current brand led by long-term chief executive, Egil Mollestad. ZEM will continue to grow its battery and complete driveline business with plans for the two companies to create complete packages together in the future.
