Dean & Reddyhoff Marinas has announced plans for a redevelopment at Haslar Marina in Gosport. Currently undergoing the planning permission process, the plans include a new powerboat centre, a team base for Alex Thomson Racing and a marina extension. It is hoped that work can begin towards the end of the year. Michael Prideaux, Dean & Reddyhoff MD, said it would be a major investment for both Haslar and the local marine industry. “The redevelopment has come about in response to customer demand and changes in boating habits with increasingly larger sailing boats and greater numbers of powerboats. In order for us to remain fit for the future, it is critical that this hugely exciting development gets given the go ahead.

“It will secure the future for Haslar Marina for the next 25 years and beyond,” he said. The Alex Thomson Racing Team has been based at Haslar Marina for over 15 years. The new base will become a UK centre of excellence for ocean racing including a world-class boat shed, training facilities and visitor gallery. The new powerboat centre will include an upgraded public slipway, a specialist repair and service centre, sales centre hub, public waterfront footpath and 28 new car parking spaces. Other proposals include a new wave screen and marina extension providing 50 new deep water berths and a clubhouse with a new waterfront location for the marina restaurant.

BRITISH MARINE REVEALS ‘MEMBER FIRST’ PLAN British Marine has unveiled its strategic plan 2025 with a core 'member first' culture as chief executive Lesley Robinson admitted the trade association is not 'good at communication'. Speaking at the BM roadshow in Southampton, Lesley explained that a key part of the plan is the organisation's national agenda, which focuses on making changes across five themes to support industry growth. These include looking at talent attraction and development with a Higher Apprenticeship Marine Standard and national careers events, the creation of an innovation group and generating more boating awareness. Dean Smith, commercial director, explained: “The biggest challenge in executing the strategic plan is engaging more with

members and getting them to benefit from these changes.” Other goals include work on Maritime 2050 and its emissions targets, support on category B&E towing driving license rules and clarity on inland waterways management. The environment is considered with issues such as holding tanks and vessel disposal and a technology and innovation theme will promote knowledge sharing through a three-pillar engagement programme, plus support research into new boatbuilding materials and hybrid vessels. BM also revealed plans for a refreshed website, digital forum, faster quality checks for members and a five-tier scheme for membership packages with the introduction of a new micro business membership category to simplify pricing and streamline services according to member needs.
